      @David Venegas know first that you are embarking on a life changing journey. Tomorrow marks that day man. A “fork in the road”. One day you’ll look back. And be even more proud of the choices you made. To fly is an honor. To wear wings is an honor. It’s not only to serve. It’s to be willing to go down in that bitch if those are your orders. And EVERY aircrew member and soldier has gotta have that attitude. So good luck out there. Don’t let ANYONE or ANYTHING break your spirit. All roads that lead to good places are UPHILL. god speed man.

      Good luck man!! It’s an honor to be in the military. And it’s an even bigger honor to be a military aviator. I thank god every day I was able to fly 0.1 hours in a C5 Galaxy. The aircraft humbled me. Cause in a job like a Loadmaster, if you don’t know your job and wtf you’re doing. It can cause a whole crew of dudes to never come home again. So it taught me personal responsibility and a commitment to excellence. Because I had a personal responsibility to everyone on that airplane ✈️ to make sure we got home. No matter what anybody tells you, this isn’t the same as any other job. Good luck with your journey man. Let me know when you’re a qualified load.

    I really appreciate you making this video, my dad was in the navy and worked in a PMC afterwards. He met a lot of loadmasters cause he’s a pilot and junior year he told me about the job. Basically ever since then I’ve set my eyes on it, I took the asvab and scored a 77 AFQT during senior year. Now it’s the summer before I ship off and I plan on seeing a recruiter come September. I’m glad you brought up SERE school, my dad told me about it once but now this has got me wanting to research a bit in order to mentally prepare myself and not go in completely blind.

      @Outlawv21992  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler Lichon no problem Tyler. Sorry I didn’t respond earlier as I wasn’t @ on the reply. Yeah loadmaster is an amazing job. Highly rewarding to those who get the opportunity. I was blessed. SERE school is a right of passage tbh. We can’t really talk about what goes on there as it’s highly classified. However at the end of the day, male or female, if you can’t take the punishment of SERE school, then being a “Load” ain’t for you. Lol. It’s not much you can prepare for other than being physically fit and mentally strong. If you really want something. Don’t let a training environment be a reason to lose your cool. SERE school is for teaching you how not to die behind enemy lines. If u found urself there.

      Thanks for the lesson. Yes. C5 airdrop was discontinued thanks to the C17. Dover was still doing it when I was C5s.and I’m also not just speaking for C5s only. You don’t have any control of what MDS you get so I’m speaking general career field information and not aircraft specifics. They can learn all that in their LIQ. How long have you been a C5 LM and where?

    hey man. active duty here, 1 year mark is next month. just turned 20 and the reason why i’m on this video is because loadmaster was the job i was really interested in. being in a military family where my grandfather, father as well as 2 brothers, a sister and i. truth is i didn’t get the job, scored 2 points too low on the asvab with a little bit of manipulation from my recruiter got me stuck with a job that i really don’t love. the job is Aircrew Flight Equipment (1p051) if you’re familiar, kind of in the same boat as when you had the computer job. looking back on it i’m disappointed in not getting this awesome ass aviation job with everything you talked about, kind of a dream for me. my brother who is active told me about the job and told me pretty much to do it because it is an awesome job and you get to travel and all of that. i did a lot of research on loadmaster before i swore in. obviously you must’ve cross trained. i understand you have a window you have to serve before you can consider cross training and even in that window you are not guaranteed a cross train- you basically apply for it and if they have slots open as well as your job not being in need of what you are then you can for the most part. My question(s) are/is was it worth it? not just the traveling and seeing places not a lot of people get to see but i guess that absence from you know love life or if you have a family to do something with that much opportunity and excitement. do all load masters get to see what you did or is it just the lucky few who fly day to day flying mission? i’ve thought of just doing my 4 year time and getting out but really have no passions or what to do outside of this, i have time to figure it out but knowing myself, a fit outgoing man who loves adventure and adrenaline and flight. this is the first true video i’ve seen except for those videos the air force makes so i apologize for saying so much. to this day i’m upset that i didn’t get the job i wanted to join the air force for you know and now i’m stuck fixing pilots fucking equipment and basically babying them.

    • @Outlawv21992
      @Outlawv21992  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahahaha ok first off man. Congrats. You are IN which means ur getting paid and won’t be fired anytime soon. Trust me it matters in this Corona day and age. Secondly. Yes. U can cross train. First term airman actually have more relaxed standards for cross train. I don’t know how you can retake the ASVAB. THAT will be your sticking point I believe. Research that and prepare for your window to open. And stay in and at least try. Now what mission you will partake in and seeing the world and all that. Depends on plane choice. If you are C5 or C17 you are gonna see the world during heavy strategic airlift. C130s do more deploying and inter-theater lift. 130s are generally for the most gung Ho types that don’t like money and hotels. They like dirt and smelling like army guys. Which is cool I guess. I was C5s. I had it made. And during a war. Which meant MORE flying. Be on the lookout for another video I do about loadmasters and other jobs compared to it. I may do it today.

      I was given a waiver to fly ONLY on C-5 but my color deficiency was found AFTER I had made it thru training and got qualified on C-5's. For an initial Class 3 flight physical i'm not sure they will waiver it due to safety precautions.

    Appreciate the vid, considering joining the Air Force. 25 years old now. Been looking at hands on careers in the Air Force, aircraft maintenance and what not. Load master caught my eye as well. Maybe a job that transfers to civilian world after I’m done I’m not sure though. I don’t really know anyone in the air force so I don’t know what jobs are good and what not. I would appreciate a reply when it comes to your thought on aircraft maintenance jobs vs being a load master since u have so much experience in Air Force. Thanks man

    • @Outlawv21992
      @Outlawv21992  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tom Martin sorry Tom just saw this. Ok loadmasters is a double edge sword. EASILY the best job in the Air Force. Travel. Responsibilities on operating multi million dollar aircraft. Being an OPERATOR is way different than being a maintainer. HOWEVER there is little civilian transferability upon getting out. Loadmaster jobs are simply not plentiful outside in the US. So if you have a passion for flying like I did. When it’s gone, you have to reinvent yourself. Aircraft MX is a solid career field if you intend to make that a career choice. You can get your A&P license and make good money on the civilian side. However you will always need to live near an airport to some degree for life. I can tell u bar none. Don’t choose security forces or services. Ever. If you want to be a cowboy, choose Loadmaster. But remember it’s a rigorous training regimen. Studying. Time management. And USAF SERE school will stand in your way. But commitment to service is what USAF is all about.

Which means u gonna be bored and training for long periods of time. As a loadmaster there isn’t a lot of that. You will be actively flying missions. What type of mission depends on chosen MDS.

      @@Outlawv21992 thank u for responding so damn quick. Firstly, thank u for serving your country. Secondly, while it has not been a life long dream of mine, i do see myself being a FF in the civilian world. Loadmaster seems like a badass job with huge upside potential. Carter not a problem! And don’t mention it. My years as an Air Force loadmaster were my best memories so it’s an honor for me to speak about it. And yes. It has huge upside but also as you spoke it’s a double edge sword. There are no civilian equivalents to loadmaster. Stewardesses do NOT load cargo. And in civilian companies loads are PLANNED by ground based civilians and then loaded by their contractors. Nobody flies with the cargo like the Air Force does. So when you’re done. Your done. I had to just walk away from aviation and do something else. Which can be a hard pill to swallow. Once my career was over it was over. Education and classes as a LM was hard. But again I was flying during a full scale war. So my flying schedule was as brutal as it gets. You CAN educate yourself while in as a LM. It just has to be worked around your training first. The AF upgrade comes first. But as a FF you’ll have more time to study and dedicate to getting your degree. So if your dream is to be a fire fighter then use the Air Force and free training as a means to do so. As long as u didn’t say security forces. Lmaooooo.

      kool kid so a couple of points here. If you serve at all. And you are “honorably discharged” from whatever service you enlisted into. Then you are considered a “veteran”. Now, that doesn’t mean you get a pension or “retirement”. That only happens at TWENTY years or more of continued service. Then you are eligible for a pension. Which is going to be about a 1/4 of what you were making before. But it’s for life. You are also eligible for medical benefits and life insurance at VA rates. For life. This is after you complete twenty years. If you get out at ten you would be a veteran. However you would just get out of the service and would no longer be paid. But you also would still get education benefits. Post 911 GI bill. It paid for my MBA after I got out. The benefits of service are MASSIVE for really any length of service. Talk to a recruiter.

      Typically loadmaster is a critically short field because not all people can pass a class 3 flight physical, and then get all the way thru training without being washed out. A recruiter is usually the FIRST step at availability of slots. Because the rates are constantly changing. The best thing to do with loadmaster jobs is to request a GUARANTEED job before enlisting. Not airmasters. Loadmasters. It all depends on the state of airplane and the mission cut. A LOT goes into timing of missions. Diplomatic clearances. Weather. Operational status of crew. Typically during war we were “12 and go”
      Meaning 12 hours off and then we were alerted again to leave. If the plane had a maintenance problem we’d stay. During my tenure flying I had plenty of time to explore. I saw about 30 countries in total.
