    For productivity, once u go ultrawide you won’t go back. IMO far superior to dual monitor. My first was a curved 29”. Next went to 34” now considering a 38 or 40”. Great video sir

      Well if you don’t do gaming why not go ahead and get a 49” or a straight up tv?

    • @MitchellH79
      @MitchellH79 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@motherclucker1235 I actually found a 49” for a steal and love it. I can easily have 4 apps/windows up at once. I wish the resolution was a little higher but that’s me just being picky… it’s working great for my needs. The one I got is only 60 hz but since I don’t game it doesn’t impact me really.

      @@motherclucker1235 Using a TV is crazy! I mean I used to connect my laptop and mini-pc to my 55-inch TV before, it is only good if you're playing a movie or presentation. But productivity wise, everything looks too big even if you change the resolution! Maybe that's the reason why the monitors for computers are called monitors and not TV! Hilarious!

    Thank you very much for your clear and insightful presentation. I've read through and watched so many articles and videos over the last few weeks while researching and trying to decide between an Ultrawide or 32" 16:9 for music and video work. I was most worried about the vertical space (besides clear text), and you're the only source that addressed that for me!

    It’s crazy that Gaming seems to be the only thing companies are catering too, even though the majority of people use monitors for work, social media editing, graphic design, or multi-functional productivity. I just want a high quality monitor that had incredible clarity when it comes to text and color, and versatile so that it will stand the test of time in the age of every changing technology and innovation. If my job primarily includes working with editing and creating text documents, with some graphics what should I chose? I want to do more graphics and social media work in my off time, so I need a monitor robust enough for that. I can’t seem to find an online review that doesn’t focus on gaming. Yours was one of the few that didn’t. I even watched one for graphics and every other word he said gaming so I was confused as to what kind of monitors he was promoting because it seemed like they were more for gaming. It’s frustrating. I also don’t know if I should buy 2 monitors or go ultra wide and curved and get a 49” screen. Decisions, Decisions. Thanks for the link to the research website.

    • @CHECKTHISOUT-CANADA
      @CHECKTHISOUT-CANADA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah i know what you mean. It does seem like the gaming monitors get a lot of hype. It's also very difficult to find a gaming monitor which can double well as a work monitor, especially if you do photo and graphic work.

      I agree man, I’m just looking for a monitor to read and work on documents and all I can find is about response times and gaming stuff, I don’t even need speakers on the monitor. I’m looking for a cheap curved ultrawide, I have a 29” lg ultrawide and its ok but i want to upgrade to a curved 34”

    • @ClarkPotter
      @ClarkPotter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do IT remote and splurged and got a 43" Samsung monitor (curved). I was a bit concerned it'd be gaudy and excessive but I absolutely love it and the quality of life upgrade is easily worth the $750 I paid for it. I thought about the 49" but it was another $500. I'd have been happy either way I'm sure, but I'm certainly not missing 6 more inches.
      The reason I'm watching this video is that after 1.5yrs, I want another 34" monitor to sit vertically atop my 43" one. I'm a nut and ordered a 32" but am sending it back bc I didn't do my hw well enough to learn that the 4:3 aspect ratio makes a vertical setup just look stupid.
      I think going large ultrawide is worth it for the seamless experience. If you're at that computer a lot, the extra $$ in the ultrawide will dissolve away in quality of life upgrade it confers.

Text is good compared to the retina. Was worried about the brightness, but I found out it is more than what I need. I set it to 45%. The speaker is decent but I could add side speakers If I need in the future. Overall , I am so happy with It.

    I love the review! I love how you included your simple opinions over dual monitors and ultrawide, why go for ultrawide vs 4k, what's the recommended monitor size if you should opt for 4k or ultrawide monitors. It really helps potential buyers like me to decide which one is really for me based on preference and use. I've been using dual monitors for almost 9 yrs now since that has always been our company work setup. I'm not sure if using ultrawide monitors is equally flexible when it comes to multitasking, but it's aesthetically pleasing aside from the fact that it's trending nowadays. I would also like to improve my video editing skills to change work industry since the skill is more marketable nowadays. But maybe 34 inch is enough size for me since I am not used to rotating my monitor anyway, I'm not used to moving my head up and down if the distance between the browser and task manager is too far.

    The extra lines of resolution will just put further stress on my system which is why we're going down from 4k and would defeat the purpose of that so we actually ended up going with View Sonic VP3481a Color Pro Monitor which had the best of both worlds. Color Calibrated from the factory with 100% sRGB and 100%Rec 709 which we needed for graphic design and tutorial videos. Plus it has 90 watt usb - c and hub. FreeSync Premium with 100hz for silky smooth desktop use. And its less than $600. Which is hard to find for a Color Calibrated monitor that's also 34inches that doesn't skimp out on anything.

    You don’t mention the price at any time of your review. This is important to most people. I decide I want a 38 inch widescreen from watching your video and then got to buy one and realise how expensive they are compared to a 34 inch. Most people wont be able to justify the price difference.

    • @CHECKTHISOUT-CANADA

      Thanks for the comment. I don't mention price as prices change so often and over time. Plus i'm in Canada, most viewers are actually in the US, so that would even be more confusing. I just expect viewers to look for their current pricing at the time. I will mention price in terms of a product being less expense than another at the time of filming. Hope that answers your question.

Or at least while the call is running, acesss the second work laptop. Biq question is however, would I be able to hear my work call if switched to the personal device

    The whole 4K issue is why I went for the Dell U4021QW - this basically gives me a resolution of 5120x2160, so I basically have a true 4K monitor with 35% added to the side. Also, because it’s 40 inch in size I don’t suffer from that 27” 4K thing where the monitor is simply too small for the 4K resolution to be usable. What makes these "small" 38" monitors so special?
    As I checked them here they cost around 1000$ and for this high price you already get good 49" Ultrawide screens.

      That small box is my Sony bluetooth speaker. You can also hardwire it. It's always connected directly to my dock in case i want better external audio than my laptop speakers. It's from many years ago so i don't think you would be able to find it currently for sale.

    Great video! Do you feel the LG Dual Controller does the same as in internal KVM? I need the ability to place both inputs on the monitor PBP, and go back and forth. When I do this, does it require a keyboard command, or does the mouse travel freely between?

    If 34inch ultra wide is like two 21inch and 43 is like two 24 inch what is the 38inch like?

  • @leafsfan71
    @leafsfan71 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Great video. Love the comments about 27 inch monitors and 4k resolutions being too small. With that said, I bought the LG 38 UltraWide, but ended up returning it a week later because the fonts were absolutely terrible. They were blurry, and were noticeably worst than on my $400 Dell. Add that to the fact that my Xbox Series X didn’t support a 21:9 resolution, the cons outweighed the pros. It was disappointing

    • @riks8123
      @riks8123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stick to the standard resolution sizes when you connect a console to it, consoles are not made to run ultrawide monitors and can cause a lot of trouble (like you said). Ultrawides are aimed more towards productivity and often have slow refresh rates and have unnecessary features if you want to game on them like: color accuracy, view angles, ports, kbm switches and many more

    You are a skilled presenter Jacob and I agree LG is in the business of making the finest panels. In my living room I use the 65" LG OLED as part of my set up that includes some high end speakers and a decent amp with the accompanying pre put receiver. I have had a couple of 27" Imac's for past decade and I have an interest in the Apple Studio Max. I have a rather large desk that would present to opportunity to provide the foot print for a 38" Ultra Wide monitor with a 4k being the optimun with LG models tearing at my heart strings.

    Awesome review..... I would love an Ultrawide 38" or 40" for FCPX video editing but, with the resolution of 4K 3840x2160 with the ability to split screen. So far, no luck. I saw a few 34" 4K 3840x2160 but, I feel the same as you do.... not quite the right size. I have a feeling that if I want great spec's along with the width of two screens, I'll have to go with a pair of 27". Thanks again, Great job!!👍😊

      @CHECKTHISOUT-CANADA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah i actually use the monitor with Final Cut often, it's absolutely awesome. It's definitely enough space and better than 2 27 inches. It's much easier to work, expand timeline the full width, plus you can see and use all your tools at the same time. At 4k you will do scaling anyway. The only difference is the 4k will be a touch sharper after scaled.

I may take another hard look at the Apple Studio Display as much as I don't want to. I don't want to jump the gun on that simply due to the possibility of something better at their next Apple event. @@thomasdietz579 It’s basically the same, well in terms of detail, just the later has more vertical height, which I feel is much better. Plus, I believe on a Mac you do not have to do any scaling. Scaling is known to take a touch of processing power.
