2:00 In my case, I don’t have to wait until I stop using a product with hyaluronic acid in it to see the dryness. My skin becomes dry as soon as I start using a product that contains hyaluronic acid in it (first 1-3 days). For example, I was forced to use a moisturizer during the Winter, even though I don’t like wearing moisturizers, because my skin became quite dry (I have dry skin during the Winter, and oily t-zone skin during the Summer). So, I used the ‘Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer’, which contains hyaluronic acid in it, because it was advertised as being for “sensitive” skin. After I started using it though, I felt like my skin was getting drier & drier. I started developing visible fine lines that I never had before and my skin looked so much older. It was scary how many lines appeared on my face overnight. My skin felt really tight too and it was uncomfortable to move it. Once I saw this, I immediately stopped using the moisturizer, and my skin bounced back within a few days after that. However, I realized that I have had this experience in the past too with multiple other products that contained hyaluronic acid in them. But I just couldn’t understand how products that were supposed to moisturize & “hydrate” my skin were doing the opposite, which was drying out my skin and creating wrinkles that were never there before I used the product. Honestly, I think hyaluronic acid has no place in products that are made for sensitive skin. I wish they wouldn’t add it in almost everything.
Unfortunately companies that sell hyaluronic acid don't say it only works if it's humid outside. Hyaluronic acid draws moisture to it in any direction. If it's humid outside, Hyaluronic acid will draw from that moisture, and therefore bring it more moisture to your skin. If it's dry outside, it will draw the moisture from your skin and cause it to feel drier.
@@Dr_Abs I agree totally on your points, but differin aka retinoid is too strong for my sensitive skin, so it is safe to say, using Retinal OTC will yield similar results, but with maybe with a slight delay?

Try basic stuff like tretinoin in the evening and some squalane on top and then either just SPF or one other thing during the day that has other ingredients like vitamin C
But eating Vitamin A and C versus putting it on the skin. I dont think people actually need to put stuff on top of their skin except sunscreen. Can you please talk about this more? Thank you.
Exactly. I’m not sure this is always the best way to view things. I like it, but then how many brands actually create products that make it so you don’t have to buy their products anymore? That would be counter intuitive for them. I will say, I’ve gone with your advice on solely using a good retinoid, of which I use The Ordinary’s Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion, and that has made a positive difference overall. I would wager most people could use just that and almost nothing else and be fine.
But what should we use on our body to stop TEWL? We cannot use retin a all over, for over 35 years I did not use a moisturizer on my body and at least during the winter my skin was very dry(my derm told me to use a body moisturizer with urea), for a few months I have been using a body cream and my skin feels better, even though I do not use it daily. Also, does retin a stop TEWL? Thank you
Why can't you use vitamin a all over? Urea is a useful ingredient for the skin so your derm was talking sense. Tewl is a process - it's linked to overall skin health so a single ingredient stopping it isn't really the perspective to have. But, something like squalane oil will prevent it because water and oil don't mix so the water can't evaporate through the oil. Hope that helps

hey there, i have a question. my skin is pretty fine and i don't follow ant skincare regimen too. But, since i have turned 26, i can feel my skin is a combination type and shows medium sized pores around the areas of my nose (close to cheeks). I literally did not need moisturizer in my 30's, skin was supple, soft, and hydrated with nothing. Plus you are a male and do not struggle with extreme estrogen loss which females experience later in life. So you can skip your moisturizer for days and feel nothing. Youth is on your side for now. Also, what about using your counter argument but instead of moisturizer, substitue the word water? The day you stop consuming it you feel thristy, dry, and dehydrated when it leaves. Does that mean the water did not work to hydrate us as well? We still need to consume gallons of water daily to be hydrated too.
The reason you didn’t need moisturizer in your 30s was because your cell turnover and collagen was still high.
