Folks dont want to admit it, but once the bugs are worked out the 4thgen is just a better truck in every way.
Most old gen folks dont want to admit it but most would do the upgrade if they were handed the cash to do so. I say this as a 3rd gen owner who will do the same in a few years 😅
It's a better pavement princess truck for sure, it isn't a better truck in any way. I'd have hand crank windows if I could. I'll let you keep the shock absorbers on your seat. The lack of a two door/access cab in off-road trim is a crime. Now you have to choose between a bed in name only or a trail limo that has the breakover angle of a Camry.
Better… hmm. Refined… undeniably. If this drivetrain proves reliable it’s a solid winner.
You and me both! A lot of folks forget how much hate the 3rd gen got when it was first released and they switched to the 2GR V6.

Beautiful truck. Love the long bed. When they sort out the new engine bugs the Tacoma will be a great choice.

I maintained my Subaru wrx sti up to 150k bfore a preventable Subaru sickness that I have ignored finally bit me in the butt.. being a 4 banger turbo I see alot of similarities with these 4th gen that I happily love owning everyday taco sport premium. It puts a smile on me when I can change the oil without lifting the car up and don’t get me started about acces to the damn spark plugs. Anyways sir appreciate the video. I wanted a bronze oxide but I couldn’t wait 2 months for a delivery so I ended up with a blue crush..

I’m looking to finally get a 25 Tacoma. I drive around my area for work. Watched like 20+ of your videos the other day. I plan on doing all the maintenance and getting your tracker. I drive like 30k miles a year but not really hauling or towing anything(100-200 lbs of IT parts and equipment) does that count as severe on your chart?
We don't consider daily driving severe, but early fluid changes are never bad maintenance practice at all! We refer to severe as heavy towing and frequent offroad driving typically.

Owned a 2nd gen Tacoma and I loved it. I was excited to trade "up" into a nicer trim level 3rd gen. I've never been so disappointed. Regrets
Neither are bad options, all just personal preference! Plenty of love and hate for both.

how do you feel about car care nut saying oil should be changed every 3 months regardless of mileage to be as reliable as an NA engine? That's what does it for me for any turbo vehicle.
@@uberleet01 I will aim for 3k mile intervals regardless. I’ve always been a 5k or less guy but the addition of the turbo makes the need for that oil to be that much cleaner. If I’m approaching 3 months and haven’t hit 3k, I may just do it regardless but not sweat it. The glory of the 4th gen is how easy the change is.

I think no matter how well you maintain the 4th gen, it's gonna break down before 100k miles. Not shit talking, just going by all the turbo'd engine I own and the hell I've gone through with them.

Zero arguments. While the turbo is responsive and wonderful here… I hope it does not prove to be a longevity weak point. Time will tell. Less is indeed more.

Should be pretty easy to maintain. Just have the dealer change the oil while they're putting in your new warranty transmission.

3rd gen owners are the most vocal about 4th gen disdain. 3rd gen is literally worst gen.

I dislike the lack of drum brakes, hydraulic power steering, etc. they stopped this because it’s more expensive to make mechanical items. We are we paying higher prices of its cheaper to build these? I hate 4th generation

It seems like everyone is saving a few bucks by not supplying an engine cover. Years ago, some companies were over covering everything, now, it's all open...
Why supply a cover when every engine has a hood over it, right?!
@@okanaganjustin9321 at first I was mildly upset I wasn’t getting a cover. Then I was indifferent. Now I am thrilled about it. Once less thing to remove,
@@teamoildrop one less thing to remove but will have one dirty engine for sure
it helps keeping dirt from sitting in the crevices on the top side of the engine. Took mine off my 3rd gen and went mudding and it was way dirtier without it then with it on.
