Lucid agrees, this ruling is way too harsh - why was Royal2 only banned from one event for cheating? Consequences don't seem to have been meetered out equally

Definitely feel like this punishment is way to harsh, but if you really want to compare this to the royal 2 situation, this is a bit worse, and should have heavier punishment than that. Royal 2 was messing around online, not on lan, and also he didn't tamper with any league owned equipment, just his own network settings. So maybe somewhere in the middle is the sweet spot? 2 event ban, allowed back at worlds? Maybe include the DQ in that ban? The rest of the year is too long I feel.

HCS should be ashamed. They stated that Spartan's SSD was not an official tournament SSD. Then when it was discovered it actually was, they did not do enough to repair the damage that was done with their original statement. Not even close.

@@bbrown2194 I don't think bringing software is as bad. But nevertheless, the facts should be corrected if they were misstated originally, especially given the initial damage it can do to his reputation. it's hard to undo the damage once misinformation gets out into the ether.
That was the SSD HCS gave him. That has nothing to do with Sparty. HCS doesn't know what hardware they are using and you're blaming Sparty for that?
Of course he brought it for a reason: He admitted he brought it to optimize the system in case it ran poorly. It's little optimizations. It's not wall hacks or other blatant types of cheating.

@@bbrown2194 So he transferred the contents of his personal SSD/USB to the official tournament SSD/USB. Then he disputes that he used his own SSD and he used the tournament SSD. Wow dude, that's even worse because he tried to make it look like he was using the tournament SSD and nevermind the fact that it was still with the contents of his personal SSD. Bruh, he's been doing this a long time and just now got busted. If he would have expected or known about the "white noise" software, I guarantee he would have included that on his personal SSD and they never would have found out.

Yup, online tournaments for HCS points is whack. Anyone can gain advantages with tech. Like the whole Royal 2 situation in year 1. Dude was just trying to have host each game to lower his Canadian ping. That same year when they had the Online Super (super dumb), SEN decided to have the players go to the Complexity tech center in Texas (sweet Texas ping). They wanted to avoid the Canada crap connection dilemma and had to pay travel money for an online tournament.

You can literally set up 1 machine and clone it so everyone gets to have a well optimized machine so they can all perform. HCS needs to be more clear with what is allowed and not allowed. Halo tournaments shouldn’t be an overclocking competition. Sparty or any player for that matter should not be performing latency tweaks via registry editor to gain a competitive advantage at live events.

And if you're not cheating, you're not trying. HCS needs to get clearer regulations. Not one person should fault Tyler. He's leading the way. Can promise HCS will have more clear regulations starting next tourny. There's real cheaters all over matchmaking. Deal with those guys using aimbot and wallhacks which ruins the competition. Sparty doesn't do that stuff. He's just optimizing the Windows OS and GPU drivers and deserves credit.

Banned from the whole year and dropped is pretty harsh.
Cheating shouldn't be taken lightly....but this wasn't "cheating." Was basically a technicality.
What should have happened is they suspend him from London. (But didn't DQ complexity) and let them sub someone or something.
And then they should have fined him or something. Completely blacklisting him from everything is pretty unnecessary and excessive.
Now if they found walls, or hacks, or cheats....then ya...blacklist him completely. But that's not the case.

I don’t think Spartan is a cheater but….. tampering with official equipment is wrong. And for that I think as much respect as the HCS has for Spartan, They’re doing the right thing by setting an example. Tampering will not be tolerated. I really like Spartan I’ve been watching his streams for awhile now. Got a picture with him in Seattle 2023. Really nice guy. The ruling being harsh is... valid. However the technical illiteracy is somewhat frustrating around this. It was definitely premeditated. No one accidentally re-formats HCS's SSD with your home PC on a flash drive. That is not an accidental "oopsie" - that's deliberate tampering. It was a mistake for HCS to say he brought his own SSD, but that's essentially what he did. His own flash drive is basically no different.

agreed, a lot of outrage about them incorrectly saying he brought his own ssd that I don't understand. He might as well have since he brought his own clean install of windows on a flash drive. Also, at the time the ssd looked different than the rest and they were quick to correct their official statement when they realized it was theirs.
