      @@americanchargers333 I have the same problem and I dont even have the orange revolve Icon... I only have the blue one... so the fix is not working for me... its just because when I revolve the sketch I made it ends up with 2 parts and then when I want to shell it ends up with an error cause it has 2 parts

      to fix it : on initial sketch upper line (top of bottle) must be horizontal (with the constraint).

    This has been an awesome set of videos so far. Love it. The only difficulty is that my version of Fusion 360's interface is so much different that what was used in the video. I have been able to muddle my way through successfully. To change the appearance to glass-bronze was not available for me on the right click in the canvas. ELSE... spot on videos. He is clear and concise. Easy to understand. Thank you!!

      I had the same issue just now, I found that I was able to complete this command by a few ways as this was a feature I had never played with. You can enable the Appearances menu with the keyboard shortcut (A), additionally you can right click the bottle in the browser and select Appearances, as well as find it under the Modify menu.
      Other than this one thing I had to look around for, this has been an informative series thus far.

    • @beezwacks

    I'm a complete beginner with no prior exposure to the design/engineering world so It took me several tries but I made it through. I downloaded the personal use version on 1/6/21 and I guess the latest version UI is quite different from what you used when making the video. So I spent a lot of time searching to find things or looking for equivalent steps. Also when I adjusted the bottle top to 9mm it put the bottle off center so the final hole cut procedure was off. I went back and removed the 9mm and left it at original dimension and that fixed it and I was able to finish the exercise.

    Despite the different toolbars, commands being in a different place, etc., I could still do this exercise in the newer version of Fusion. Using points for splines is an excellent idea (I'm coming from a 2D graphic design background). He goes a little fast for me, but I'm old. ;-)

    Whew made it. As I'm using the newest F360 and toolbar has changed, I learned from Lars Christensen that if you go to Preferences->General, check Use Old Toolbar and that makes it easier to follow your tutorial. Also, I kept trying to get the extrude+cut on the top of the bottle to work but couldn't so I really had to pay attention to your instructions and the I believe that the difference was the horizontal constraint may be what made it work...finally. Well...on to Day 3 :-) And thanks for these videos.

    This is brilliant stuff, Kevin. I've got quite a bit of experience using 3ds Max. However, this seems to be a complete different game with measurements being way more crucial for these product designs. I'll be going through this entire playlist and then some!

    Another great video. One thing I noticed though, Real Beer bottles have a bit of a recess on the bottom, so that only the circumference of the bottle is touching the surface (table, bar, whatever). I added this to my model by going back to the original sketch and using the spline tool there to modify the shape a bit. Thanks for all these videos. They are super helpful as I learn Fusion!

      I had to redo this as well. If you trace the top of the bottle too accurately, it will have a rounded top surface that can not be extruded. Make the top of the bottle as flat as possible so you can extrude your hole. That just sounds wrong...

    These are Awesome training vids... and your time stamps are perfect for when I stop listening because Im trying to find what you are talking about (a lot of things are not where you say to find then and my tool bar is sub-sectioned white working in a split screen), or just complete the steps.
    You are just fast enough I dont feel like Im sitting around when trying to re-listen to a specific value you gave and your just paced enough I can clearly follow when I should be changing steps..
    more then that... I actually Understand Most of whats being taught!! Im not just copying but actually learning about these things... like why you drew a separate line on the top instead of just connecting the Spline.. that was a mistake that was easier fixed by starting over.. may be simple fix to break the line and add the flat top.. but it was so fast to redo after following along with you the first time!!
    this is awesome! Ill have to donate once I manage to find work I can safely do again... this year has been hard.

    Hi Kevin. Working my way through your tutorials. I like the pace and the fact that you tell us which keys you are pressing. I started with some DesignSpark tutorials a few weeks back but got frustrated looking at things magically happen on the screen. So I switched to Fusion 360. Keep up the good work and hopefully the user interface does not change too much in version to come so the content stays relevant.

    • @thefrozenmuffintfm9074
      @thefrozenmuffintfm9074 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Cian, I had the same problem. It is most likely because you used the "Revolve" from the "Surface" Orange menu instead of the "Solid" Blue Menu. You can tell if you did this because the icon next to the body will be a orange revolve symbol instead of the typical white cylinder symbol. Just delete the orange revolve in your timeline and do it again with the Solid Revolve.

    Another excellent video, thank you. I struggled with the horizontal constraint on the 9mm line at the top and had to constrain it first before changing the dimension. I also was unable to shell 3mm thick, managed 1mm, not sure why!

  • @franckdebruijn3530
    @franckdebruijn3530 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Made it. Thanks. I struggled with the fillet on the top edge. Could not select it, since afterwards (and some googling) I think my initial length of the horizontal line was too small (around 6 mm) ... After setting this length (as explained later on in the tutorial) to 9 mm, I could do the fillet of 1 mm.

      @@rpawlinski I took a look at your file. I see in your sketch that you used a spline for the top line. You'll want to delete that and use the regular line command. The spline command is curved and doesn't result in a flat surface, which is why you're not able to create a sketch on the top. Once you replace it with a regular line you'll be able to proceed without any issues.

    Kev two things that would make this helpful for people as I was fumbling around till I got it. First remind people if they don't save the file then they are unable to calibrate the image to add the points to the boundary. Second when you are adding the dimension of 9mm to the top and adding the constraint to make sure the line from the center of the bottle to the other splice point is only selected. Because that is where you can constrain the line to horizontal/vertical axis. Hope this helps others.

    Day 2, I have a glass bottle! As others have said, with the new release, some of the steps require a bit of searching, but your excellent tutorial on the updated interface has really helped, and I’m able to rummage around to find the necessary step. I made one mistake of completing the spline to the top of the centre line, and had to work out how to break the line - through the undo menu, and then add in the missing line at the top of the bottle.
    One thing I noticed, when dimensioning the top line on the bottle, it moved the centre line rather than the right-most point on the spline, but I managed to stop it moving by anchoring the centre line... not sure if that was right, but it seemed to work!
    Excellent tutorial. You really have a gift for this stuff.

      @ProductDesignOnline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      First thing, would be to look at the sketch and make sure the top surface is completely flat. You can add a "Horizontal/Vertical" constraint to ensure it's Horizontal. If a surface isn't planar or completely flat, then it will not allow you to select it.

    I've tried about six different strategies to select that top face, and no dice. I cannot get the circle command to draw on the top of the bottle, and so my extrusion (in the next step) is floating out in the middle of nowhere. Not sure what's up.

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@JohnMcKLV That would certainly cause it to not let you sketch on that top face. You can apply a "horizontal/vertical" constraint to force the top line to be horizontal. Double-click on that sketch in the timeline to open it back up. Then, select the top line of the bottle > right-click > select "horizontal/vertical constraint" or select the constraint in your Sketch Palette.
