    I got great satisfaction seeing him realize that Ruyi deliberately did not take meds at the end, allowing herself to die simply to be rid of him. Seeing him realize that she left no final words for him, only her son. Seeing that she didn't even tell him she was sick. Seeing his face when he realized she cut herself out of their portrait and burned her half. Seeing him realize the portrait cannot be fixed. Seeing him find out she wanted to be free of him. Seeing him hear from his own mother Ruyi was the only one who loved him and fully supported him, but he was horrible to her. His own mother told him that. Seeing him miserable and alone for decades after she passed away. Seeing him complain about being alone, knowing she promised to be there with him and he only had himself to blame that she wasn't there to the end. I love the karma in that he lived so long because it meant all that time he was alone.

      You got that right!💯 Ain't Karma a blankety-blank?
      But I don't think I would speed up my own death just to be rid of him. I think I would try to think of a way to watch him suffer as long as I did live (by bringing up old times, dropping little hints about our dead children and saying how much they'd looked like him, which would feed his ego, and anything else I could do to make him suffer).

      @@diannewalker5132 Anything she did to him, he can do worse right back. As a woman she was stuck as long as she lived, because he was Emperor. Might as well die to reincarnate somewhere else, especially since she was sick anyway, all living would do was prolong her own suffering just to spite him when she could find peace faster.

      @@Yidenia Yes, I really and truly think you're right. She was a woman that made the biggest mistake of her life by falling in love with a bratty, nerve working and completely toxic piece of a man like the Emperor, but I still don't think I would have speeded my own death just to get rid of him. No. As I said I would start my revenge while still alive so that I could have that tip of the iceberg bit of revenge to take to my grave with me. It would be after my death when the real fun started. Remember that old adage " Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"? Enough said. Now that's just me and my personal opinion of what the Emperor should go through for a couple of centuries

      @@diannewalker5132 In a way I think that was already what she did. She got to work identifying and bringing down the main villain responsible for so many ruined lives. The thing that the Emperor feared the most was the truth that he was a loser this entire time, and what she managed with Ling Fei hammered home that he had been wrong all along. Then she rejected all of his attempts at reconciliation, so he could never comfort himself with the delusion that he made things right in any way.
      I disagree that the Empress sped up her death. That is a view easily had if you've never experienced serious illness. Refusing futile treatment is not the same as suicide. Some people with terminal, incurable cancer opt for comfort care, so they refuse treatment that may prolong their lives but was expensive and wouldn't improve their quality of life-in fact their quality of life may even decrease, and this is a perfectly reasonable choice to make if your priority isn't simply living as long as you can, but living as WELL as you can. The Empress wasn't fasting, she didn't take any poison. She simply didn't want to bother with medicines that ultimately couldn't cure her. Bear in mind that in the old days, these medicines did not come in the form of a pill that some pharmaceutical company manufactures in bulk. They were herbs meticulously gathered in very remote areas by poor people, often during very particular seasons, and a lot of times you can have long stretches, even years where such ingredients weren't available at all, so if you used it up, someone else could die if the ingredient couldn't be restocked later. Further, they often tasted like dirt. Seriously. And you had to drink a sizeable bowl of it, like soup, so it's not a swallow-once-and-be-done-with-it. AND you often have to drink these things multiple times a day, only to extend your life by a small fraction and minimize your symptoms by a hair. We were never given an exact prognosis in the show, but the implication was that even with the doctor's best efforts, Ruyi's life would not be extended substantially, and she wouldn't exactly be feeling 100% during that time either. She decided this effort wasn't worth it. That's not speeding things up; that's letting nature take its course, and there are definitely cases when this is appropriate. I happen to feel that in her case, it fit her personality and her circumstances, and I think it ultimately was the right choice.

    🌸 I really liked how the artist explained why the painting could never be restored. The feeling between them when it was first painted was long gone. He had cut her out of his life and had caused her so much pain and humiliation that finally she cut herself out of the painting. I feel it signified the end of her love for him the same as the poem she quoted to him shortly before she died.
    When she cut her hair on the riverboat she was divorcing him. He just couldn’t believe she would do such a thing. He kept blaming everything on her and others but never on himself.
    I enjoyed it when the evil woman said that she never loved him but was only with him because she was forced to and that was how most of the concubines felt. Then she told him that only Ruyi had been with him for love. It heaped fiery coals on his head.

Qianlong got what he deserved at the end. He died alone missing the one person who was true to him, Empress Ruyi. He threw her every attempt to love in him away and pushed everything that was his fault onto her. He always said just forget it and never admitted his fault as if it didn't matter what happened to her wrongly. Ruyi was too good for him. She deserved so much better. She was sincere. She obeyed him and she was truly the only one who loved him until she couldn't love him anymore. Qianlong just didn't know what he had right before him and when he realized it, it was just too late.

      In my opinion, the Emperor deserved every heart punch he got. It would have been nice if he had been reincarnated as a concubine and Ruyi had been reincarnated as the Emperor just so he go through his next life as her. Now that's what I would call real retribution. I really don't think he would have been able to stand it as long as Ruyi did. Oh yeah, it would be nice if he didn't have any sort of disease to speed him through that life.

    Yes, you definitely lost many of them because it is your own fault. Your empress is most loyal and truly love you , you neglected and punished her a lot. She did not scheme on you but was the most neglected woman in the palace. You used her a lot to your own personal gain. I remember how you asked her not as a wife but as an empress to convince consort Rong to sleep with you. Isn’t that hurtful as a wife. You prayed to Buddha which you never did before even when your children was sick but you did it so Rong will agree to have sex with you. You even forced her but was not successful. You built a palace for her and give her whatever she wants so you can continue to sleep with her. After you have accomplished this with the help of your empress Ruyi , what did you do for her? You neglected her totally . When your imperial consort Rong ask Ruyi’s help to render her childless and also it was the Dowager Empress decree for Ruyi to do. Ruyi cannot refuse because it is also Rong’s wish. She do not want your child to be borne by her. You slapped Ruyi , although it was not her fault. You wronged her, instead of apologizing to her , you stripped her of her responsibility to manage the harem as an Empress. Ruyi was over the moon actually because she doesn’t have to see you and deal with you. I think Ruyi fall out of the love the moment you disrespected her. I remember because of your unfounded jealousy you forced her to have sex with you and humiliated her multiple times because of your jealousy of Ling Yunche. He was a devoted palace guard to Ruyi.
    I have no ounce of pity towards you. You did not deserve Ruyi at all. I was riveted by the scene where she cut her hair after you slapped her. She completely severed all ties with you.

I'd like to think in the ending after the Emperor died, that Ruyi is walking up to him to welcome him into heaven. And the best part of it is, that she isn't in her bride garb, her different levels in the harem garb, or even in her empress garb, she is walking up to him as herself because that is who she was the entire time and that is what she chooses and wants to be. Now the 2 can be in heaven not as an emperor or an empresse but as Qing-Ying and Hongli.

When people died they will not changed what mortal sins they've committed in this world when he die he face all the punishment according to his sins.and erased all his memories .no ruyi.not all in the past, he meet what he desrve to meet.. maybe he was not guilty if he still respect ruyi when she was alive even if he did not loved her, just a little consideration at least

      This is just my opinion, but I don't think even heaven would accept a person like the Emperor. And as for Ruyi, she was probably up there running and playing with her children. I think that a special place would have to be prepared for him. A place where he could see her and the children, but couldn't get to them. A place where he could see exactly what he missed by being such a self-righteous and lowdown piece of a man.

    • @NAVEMAN3
      @NAVEMAN3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@diannewalker5132 I can see that. I guess I'm thinking positively because, in real life, he didn't have a happy life after the Step-Empress died and the worst of it is that he gave the country to an incompetent child of his, and by doing that, in a way, he redeemed himself. I'm just a sucker for happy endings. Any thoughts?

    • @diannewalker5132
      @diannewalker5132 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@NAVEMAN3 Yep,a couple of them. But first I have to say this. I am also a sucker for happy endings, but in my opinion, this wasn't one, not by a longshot. Maybe if I knew something about ancient Chinese history (I didn't pay attention to it in school) I would be doing the same thing you are trying to find something positive about the ending of the movie, but since I don't, I can't. With that said, I can give you my thoughts. The Emperor (in the movie) was a sad little man (and I'm not talking about little in stature) with a big attitude problem. The Empress Dowager wasn't much better, so I guess the old saying is true, children learn by example. It seems that all the children in the Forbidden City had a predestined future of attitude problem's, the one's the concubines didn't kill of course.

    I am going to watch this from the beginning! From the snippets that I have seen, I had not one ounce of sympathy for the Emperor. The same hell he put the Empress through, he lived his own hell after she passed in peace. All the years he remained alive, he was left to contemplate in the hell he created for himself. In the end, he realized how she loved him and that he mistreated her. I couldn't imagine being married to the man I love, but receive nothing but torment, cruelty, and suspicion. I loved it when the painter explained why he could never fix the portrait! And I loved the fact she cut herself out of it and burned it. The soul of man lies within the eyes, and he is no longer that man in the portrait. And she was no longer the woman in it.

He turned his back on her for the very ones that were plotting against him. He humiliated her and tormented her for years. Ruyi was there before he became the father to the nation. Better script, better actors, better costume designs, bigger budget. It really captured the splendour of the Qing dynasty at its peak. Ruyi's coronation event alone must have required a hefty budget to film. Zhou Xun embodied the tragic and mysterious step-empress Nara so well that it's hard to imagine the character as a villain in another show.

      @@C-Dramaclips I do too. She's so sweet and caring and really loves the Emperor. She gets framed or blamed for everything.

    Ruyi smpr libre y feliz!

No tuvo ella amor propio...

    As cliche as it is, but this is a good example of “you don’t know what you have until it is gone.”

    It's noteworthy that they both died in a chair in this drama. The symbolism is not lost on me
