I did this over the past weekend using the same capture card dongle and the test flight app. Connected it to my steam deck. Worked perfectly. Now my iPad is a portable gaming monitor. So cool.

This will be a HUGE game changer for the small/indie film community. The ability to use an iPad or ipad mini for your monitor, lightweight, battery self contained is EXACTLY what I was looking for when operating my gimbal. Sadly my iPad mini is too old for iPadOS 17. But purchasing a new or refurbished one may be worth it. I'll test the beta OS and the adapter on my 11" iPadPro first and see how it behaves. Thank you so much for making this video!
There are already enough external monitors and recorders specifically designed for video shooters, no one will buy iPad mini when you can buy a 4k monitor for your camera for 1/3 of the price.
@@bluehonour02 I have a video monitor for my camera but there are definitely instances when I would utilise the iPad Pro I already own for as a monitor for certain tasks over the monitor. Many filmmakers already own iPads so it's not like you would get one specifically for it either
I might give it a try when the public release comes out next month, but not on a beta version. I rely on TH-cam videos like yours to know what is going on in the beta testing process. I always update my devices as soon as the public release is available.
Amazing new feature, thank you for this video! How about the frame rate (60 or 120fps?) and latency? Do you feel like the DualSense's responsiveness is the same as when you play on your main monitor/TV? Thank you for your time! ✨
Question: if you get the hub, how do you plug it into the capture card dongle and still charge your upad at the same time? I look it up and it's only 1 USB-C PD port and i assumed that's for the capture card am i correct? Could you explain more how all this works?
I have spent a good portion of the last 2 days trying to set this up and would like some help. I have been using my Nintendo SWitch, my IPad Pro 12.9, and the same Guermok Video capture card to connect my Switch to the IPad. I just keep getting the rainbow bar screen that you initially got when you initially connected your setup in the video. Except for me, I never get pass the rainbow bar screen. I have tried 3 different HDMI cables, 2 different video capture cards, a few different apps such as Orion, Camo, OBS etc,. But no matter what I use, I always get the rainbow colored bars. I have also tried setting it up on my Mac Studio and My MacBook Pro and it is the same results. I figured that it must be a setting within. My Nintendo Switch itself but no matter what I choose in the settings, it is always the Rainbow Bars screen as a result. I have watched so many videos and everyone seem to just plug and play with this setup. What am I missing?
Couldnt we always use Second Screen App to Play PS4 games? I know this allows the ipad to be a second screen now with anything being hooked upto it using HDMI and a capture app. But a lot of videos only talk about being able to play games on it. When Second screen allowed this already. Am I wrong?
Hello Andrew, a request for a video. Please make a dedicated video on , how you organize folders and files in your macbook and ipad. Over a period of time my macbook files and folders are all scattered and fully messed up. Same with my ipad pro M1 as well ☹. Would love to see how a professional like you organizes your files and folders 😊
Yea but your stuck with 60hz and the black bar on the iPad + bad latency. But your benefits for OLED panel. For bigger screens I’ll go with Samsung Ultra Tab.
Can you use a similar setup for for an additional screen for a macbook? I need to use my wife's ipad (not same icloud account as mine) as an additional display. Considering ipad does not support multiple users as yet I am wondering if this setup would would with a macbook.
Last year I was going to be holed up in a hotel for a few days, so I purchased a portable monitor so I could still play games and I thought I was being really smart. Technology is going so fast, it's hard to keep up with it all.
These instructions worked perfectly. However, at least on my 2018 iPad Pro (not Apple Silicon) I was getting an unacceptable amount of video tearing just playing Diablo II Resurrected on my PS5. So, it’s back to the drawing board. Sigh! This had SO much potential.
As it turns out, all I had to do was cut the frame rate down to 30 FPS in the Capture Pro app and there was no more tearing in any game I tried, including Diablo II Resurrected but also the intro to Titanfall (didn't get to where I was engaging in actual combat), Ratchet and Clank, and Astro. I'd still be curious to see what happens with an M-series iPad Pro.
I couldn’t find the capture pro app but i found similar ones that claim to do the same things. However, after connecting my ps5 to my iPad no signal is picked up (even though my ps5 is turned on). Anyone know how to fix this??

I'm assuming using a usb c to usb c cable from the deck to the ipad didn't work?
How is the resolution on the iPad from the steamdeck? And what about the refresh rate. I'm considering trying this on my rog ally

That beta test is already closed. Is there any other reliable software for this purpose? Eventually when software will be released?
What frame rate? Does it support VRR?
I had to turn off vrr on Orion cuz it wouldn’t show image on Xbox
Capture Pro problem. This beta isn't accepting any new testers right now.
I literally just updated my iPad Pro to IOS 17 just to do this and the app isn’t available…. Is there another option available?
Cam X is a better alternative imo
elgato capture and Genki Studio
You have to use video capture adapter, not just USB c to hdmi adapter, right?

I have the same questions
This question needs to be answered.
Most important question. Framerate and latency.
I can’t say for latency but frame rate I’d assume is at max 60 as iPad doesn’t support hdmi 2.1 that I know of.
The iPad acts like a monitor so (almost) no latency
Finally can use capture cards with iOS devices 🎉🎉🎉
The beta is full so now I can’t do it. Real unfortunate
What brand is the magnetic ipad stand you have in the video?
Do you think this can work for a s24 ultra😅
Is it also possible to do this with an iPhone with a USBC input
For me beta is full on Capture Pro and could not download thru Test Flight…..any other options??😢😢
You need a hdmi to usb-c capture card, right? Not just any hdmi to usb-c adapter, correct?
No
It’s cool,
Many of us have been using iPad for ps5 etc. via remote play for quite some time now.
I have been trying to but the app don’t work, this would solve latency issues sense it’s hooked up straight into port rather than relying on WiFi

Hello 👋 Could you theoretically use an M1 iMac to do the same thing?
No latency?

There’s a bunch. At least to me. For sure don’t play fighting games that require perfect frame timing and any fps online shooter.
DONT play fortnite

Can this be used to stream gameplays on twitch/youtube/tiktok?
Will it accepts HDMI 2.0 4K HDR signal?
NOW!!!! Can we do this with iPhone 15 Pro ? would be a fun update video if possible!
Could you use the iPad camera to also record while playing?
I am going to try it for a Mac mini i5 and try and do streaming with ethernet
Any other links? This one says it’s full
This would look better on a 12.9 iPad.
Also where is the stand that you used in this video from?!
I’m trying to find a connection with 2 USB-C ports so that I can also power the ipad while playing, can you recommend a device that does that?

So i assumw this will work on mac mini too right off the bat without having a proper external screen to setup?
Does Ipad 9th Gen work with it?
I assume it’s capped at 60fps due to the capture dongle? So on a PS5 at 120fps output we will experience some latency?
It's actually capped at 30 currently.
