I'm absolutely thrilled to hear about Germaine's (and your) success on the 1000 km brevet! I'm also inspired by her grit and determination. Hearing her story and progression in such a short time is phenomenal. Germaine, now other randonneurs can look to you as a source of inspiration. Fantastic story. Thank you for sharing.
I have to agree with you. I took almost two years off my bike. Then I rejoined Audax Australia with just 3 weeks to go in the 2022 season. I decided to go from having ridden about 300km total in 2 years to a Nouveou Randonneur series of 50km, 100km and 150km in the space of 2 weeks. Physically, I shouldn’t have been able to ride 150km in 30’C heat. But I got through the first 100km with plenty of time. Then I did what Germaine did and stopped to cool down and rest every 10km for the last 50km. I finished in 8hr 49min. It was definitely pure mental power. This year, my goal is YRR. I live in Brisbane, Australia where it’s warm all year. We have high heat and humidity with storms over summer but that just means I’ll do some overnight brevets to avoid the heat. I love your channel. And this video makes me feel better about stopping every 10km on my recent 150km ride.
Congratulations. I truly believe Randonneuring is mind over matter and your account of your progress is consistent with that. Thanks for sharing and I wish you all the best with your training and riding
Amazing … brava Germaine, well done!!! What an inspiration! I’m retired and in my third year of cycling and this summer I managed my first 100 mile ride followed by a 200 km this week. “Randonneuring” … who knew! Here was me thinking that 200 km’s was about all I could manage but now I’ll have to rethink my “limits”! Thanks so much for sharing this. Good luck with all your future adventures. Cheers from Montreal! 🚴😀
Thanks for the encouragement. We are trying to learn as much as possible about Randonneuring in our preparation for participating in PBP 2023 and enjoy sharing what we learn. Best wishes for your longer brevets
Very inspiring video Regan and incredible Germaine's progress. Videos like these are an incentive to try to progress over long distances. Now the days are shorter but in spring we will have to try to improve ourselves. Keep it up!
Inspiring talk. I've been trying to work up to 200km for years now. I tried a 100 last july and halfway through I wanted to stop but I had to do the other half to get back home... I stopped quite a lot on the back leg. I hope I can finally do a 200 this year.
I sincerely hope you were able to reach your goal of 200. Try completing 50’s, 75’s & 100’s strongly to build up your endurance base before tackling 200. Also try riding with a similar level of fitness group for encouragement Best wishes
That's amazing. Currently enduring a casted arm myself, so had to reevaluate my schedule and cancel some longer brevets this year. While losing current fitness can feel disheartening, this video gives confidence that all will play out if there's ample willpower. Big congrats on the major achievement(s).
Great video. Thank. I did a 3 month cross country US ride this year. Am now interested in Randonneuring as a next step. Interestingly I found my self stopping much more frequently in the last 10 miles of a day - it could be a 50 mile day or a 85 mile day - the last 10 just seemed tough. If it was an 85 mile day, the first 75 were fine even though the day before I started lagging at 40 miles because I only had 10 left! I guess mind over matter.
That is so interesting. The last 10 miles of each day irrespective of the distance. So similar to Germaine’s experience. It’s amazing how much our performance is determined by our minds. But with that background of consistent riding you will do well in Randonneuring
Awesome video and feedback! I was one of conservative people, but not because I didn’t believe in her! Plus Regan you where wise and patient supporter!
I read on Reagan's story that Germaine was a good runner - she ran marathons. She was trained and was capable of performing a great sport - running a marathon. What about an ordinary cyclist who does not have such sports training and performances behind him?
regan. is there a way I can call you to ask you general bike questions? I'm training for the trans am bike race, but really just have basic questions about long distance cycling and I don't know anybody who specializes in this
Certainly. I am not a professional long distance cyclist. But will be happy to help if I can. Please send me an email at reganemilearendse@gmail.com and we can set up a zoom call over one of the weekends. Cheers
Your wife is a real inspiration! Thank you for this and your other videos. I wish you both a safe and successful year of riding in 2024.

You are always so supportive. She was profoundly motivated by your last comment and took lots of inspiration. Thanks for the encouragement.
There is always a limit. It’s the physical limit. What is right is that you can do more than you think.
Thank you Germaine, thank you Regan😃
Truly amazing, what a story about determination and the power of will. Congratulations to you both and thanks for sharing.
