Glad to see you have time to play again, Mike. The vase reminds me of a similar 7" one ,also in cherry, I turned as a beginner, and thought I had ruined it with the finish: but no, my wife liked the "distressed" look. It became her favourite piece from me, and holds dried flowers on the dining room mantlepiece. You just never know....! Bernard.
An excellent beginners project. Actually a good project for any level turner. Simple and quick to make. Well done Mike. Love the finish. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Exact, this is what i prefer from time to time to see from the godfather of woodturning, your tutorials. I was always afraid to cut the inside of the edge with a gauche, cant count how many catches i got. I always solved the problem with a skew instead to turn the wing to 90 degrees. Thank you for this (now) simple Trick 😊 ..
A nice little project. I make quite a few as simple gifts. I use a 'Barroca' tube (28mm), as an insert so that you can put a little water to help keep the flower alive
Great looking Bud Vase Mike. I've only made 2, the first one was perfect (I was being taught by Colwin) the second not so perfect. I've just had some wood which would be perfect for this type of project so keeping this one for reference. Take care Mike. Hwyl, Huw
Haven't done any turning for 12 monhs, but a nice, simple prjjectt wiill ease me back in and, hopefully accrue some Brownie points (never get enough of them) !!
You talked about timber to use to make this bud vase, mentioning even using a fence post, provided it's treated. Is that correct advice, shouldn't you have said to use an untreated fence post?? Surely chemically based pressure treated wood should not be used for woodturning?
Hi Paul ... I actually said "hasn't been treated" ... but it wasn't as clear as it could of been. Thanks for pointing it out. I will mention this in my next video. Cheers. Mike
