How I stumbled onto this video is beyond me and the last thing I need is another hobby but I am very tempted to get a small lathe and start experimenting! Those ladles are so beautiful!
Thanks for the video. I've made a few ladles but learned some new stuff here. Easier than what I was doing. Always enjoy your no nonsense presentations.
As always great vidio man I'm learning more then ever from your teachings you are the man. When it comes to turning i also I joy your buddy Ritchard there's something about your style of turning. And your presentation thanks
Beautiful work. I'm new to the channel and will be subscribing. You make it look very easy and simple. I've been around long enough to recognize that you know what you are doing and have done it a lot. The comfort working shows.
Impressive and professional work! The process you demonstrated shows precise control on the lathe and an interesting use of techniques to create two unique spoons. I really appreciate your attention to detail and the creative thought you put into the design and execution. The video effectively conveys the entire process, and I’m sure it can serve as inspiration for other creators in the field. Excellent work and a stunning final result
That jig is amazingly simple and awesome! I expect no less from you. You have a way of simplifying and streamlining any project and this is no exception!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all. Take care. Scott
I'll try your method of chucking the ball. I make coffee scoops using a chuck I made from PVC pipe. It hadn't occurred to me to shape the handle by sanding. I'll try both your methods. Thank you.
Nicely done. Interestingly I just watched Richard Raffin do scoops too. I really like the jam chuck you used. Good narration. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Thanks, this was very helpful. The whole process seems very straightforward presented like this. I was watching on my phone and realized I could zoom in the screen to just where the tool is cutting. Gave a literal “larger than life” view where I could really see the edge presentation.
Fantastic job and I'm in awe at your control with the skew. I've watched all the tips and tricks from everyone on using the skew and I rough down and do long smooth transitions fine but every time I attempt a bead or anything similar like you do at 8:54 I get a catch without fail, never once does the unsupported edge come into contact, somehow the lower side just bites. I had actually convinced myself this was specifically because I was catching the lower corner as opposed to keeping the cut slightly higher, but watching you finish the end of that handle at 8:54 using pretty much only the corner I'm back to just not knowing.
You always have to have bevel contact, without that catch will always happen, skew is one of the stubborn tools to learn, it takes time and practice and still you can have a catch if not concentrate, I still have catches. Not as nearly aa when I started but it still happens and its normal in my opinion 😀
Tomislav, what type of chuck and jaw set are you using?. I would like to give it a go. What do you normally turn your bowl end diameter too?. They look great.
Thank you very much I use vicmark chucks and in this video I used shark jaws, I think its 42mm. Depending on size and density of wood,I turn from 800 to 2000 rpm ,but again I always make sure I have sound timber without splits
Really like both of the designs. Your shop lighting and setup really work well for these videos -- the lighting is great. One question regarding the hollowing process; is there a reason you drill the depth hole before flattening the top of the ladle or is that personal preference?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning thanks that's kinda what I figured. I do want to thank you for what you are doing. You are helping me more than you can imagine. I wish I had half of your talent.
I love your videos Tomislav. I have learned so much from you but I am really struggling with the skew. I can form the cylinder from square stock, but simply cannot make the sphere. I get catches every time. Very frustrating.
It takes time and practice, grab bunch or pine spindles and just use skew for everything, also taking on project will help you a lot, for holidays make a 20-30 shot glasses or scoops and use a skew ....it will help you a lot
me too. have you tried a more curved profile on the skew? I am thinking about making mine a bit more curved. mine is noticably straighter than tomislav's
lavori davvero bene, complimenti... ti guardo e non ti nascondo che un po' resto in apprensione quando hai le mani così vicine... ma è normale perchè io non conosco quel lavoro... ma mi affascina vedere come fai.
Wonder if it would make any difference if I drilled all the way through the jam Chuck instead of using a chisel to finish after you bandsaw the cut. Maybe I’m missing something
Hate to see you reach round that rotating handle to control the lathe. Doesn’t the control box move so you could put it on the other end of the lathe whilst hollowing? I just worry it may just be a matter of time before your fingers get caught when it might so easily be avoided. Great video otherwise.
It may seem like that but it wasn't even close, its big lathe and there is a lot space from end of the handle to the path of the switch box,but its a good point and it can very dangerous and thank you for pointing that out. Thank you very much for watching 😀
¡¡¡Preciosas!!!
Tom I love your down to earth style, camera placement, and keeping videos to the point without fluff.
Thank You!
Thank You sir 😀
How I stumbled onto this video is beyond me and the last thing I need is another hobby but I am very tempted to get a small lathe and start experimenting! Those ladles are so beautiful!
Such simplicity is the most beautiful I think. This is very well done. Thank you for this.
Your mastery of the skew chisel always amazes me. Thanks for sharing
Excellent video! No fancy production, just excellent craftsmanship and instruction on full display. Thank you!

Nice project. I especially like your jamb Chuck. Excellent idea that I plan on using
Beautifully done and your skew technique is flawless. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Johnny 😀
This is beautiful, tedious work!Never seen anyone hollow out an already rounded piece. Impressive my friend!
Thank you 😊
Thanks for the video. I've made a few ladles but learned some new stuff here. Easier than what I was doing. Always enjoy your no nonsense presentations.
Thanks Randy,I appreciate that
As always great vidio man I'm learning more then ever from your teachings you are the man. When it comes to turning i also I joy your buddy Ritchard there's something about your style of turning. And your presentation thanks

Very beautiful work, brother. Thank you for showing us how you made them.
Nice presents, Thanks Tomislav!
Beautiful work. I'm new to the channel and will be subscribing. You make it look very easy and simple. I've been around long enough to recognize that you know what you are doing and have done it a lot. The comfort working shows.
Thank you soo much 😀
I love your videos. Beautiful job on the little scoops. You make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing.
Impressive and professional work! The process you demonstrated shows precise control on the lathe and an interesting use of techniques to create two unique spoons. I really appreciate your attention to detail and the creative thought you put into the design and execution. Thank you so much for kind words 😀I really appreciate it
I have watch several videos on ladles and small scoops. Yours is the one where I feel like I can go make one. Or ten. Also great design.

Please do try and let me know how you like it😀
Lovely ladles, Tomislav. I like your conversational style. Very informative . Would make a nice coffee scoop.
Thank you very much
🕶very nice Tomislav. Thank you.
Beautiful and very informative. Turning one of these would stretch my skills (which is good). My wife and daughters would love these.
Everyone love these, they will be happy and you as well for making them. Enjoy and thank you for watching
Very nice, I think I will give a go.
Really enjoyed watching this excellent, very clear video. Thanks Tomislav.

Just discovered your videos, Fantastic explanations, great to see someone who can use the tools properly.👍
Thank you 😊
Going to turn a ladle🎉 Lol nice thanks for the tutorial man! ✌🏼 Happy Turning!!!
Thank you for sharing another great video. Very nice chuck you made. I like it because it is fast to make. Also, a very nice spoon.
Thank you buddy
Great, instructive video! Thank you, Tomislav!
You are an awesome craftsman.
I try my best, thank you very much for watching
I really enjoyed your ladle demo. Many thanks regards
I have watch several videos on ladles and small scoops. Yours is the one where I feel like I can go make one. Or ten.
Awesome, thank you, so glad to hear that
Excellent video. Nice work. I love your comments too!
Thank you

Thank you very much sir and you too have a great day 😀
Thanks, this was very helpful. The whole process seems very straightforward presented like this. I was watching on my phone and realized I could zoom in the screen to just where the tool is cutting. Gave a literal “larger than life” view where I could really see the edge presentation.
Aaa yes I use that feature sometimes as well, thank you very much for watching
Awesome work! I’m busy building a house, but when I finish I’ll be working on my lathe creations like these!
Awsome, hopefully house is goings on nicely 😀
Thanks I have been wondering for a while how to make the dippers its a great use for OFFCUTS
Beautiful work! Thank for sharing.
Thankyou so much, your presentation is so informative and the lathe speeds are very helpful. I think your skew work is very masterful as well.
Thank you very much
Super stuff.
Your instruction is so thorough and efficient. I really like the jam chuck. Neat spoons.
Thank you sir
Very impressive.
Great tutorial.
Nice demo. I will try this, now that I know how it is done. Thank you.
Thanks for showing your processes Tomislav.

Thank you Harold
Very nice project, well done. Next time trying to handle the coop by take away 1 of the jaw from the choke. Greatings from Greece.
Really excellent video. Thank you very much!
Great little project tomislav nicely done mate 👍 😊
Thanks buddy
Those are awsome, thank you

Nice work,great video!👍🏻
Well done, Sir!
Lovely.
Good info. Would like to see you do a large ladle.
Great job. Thank you 😊
Nice work Tomislav. I'm curious about the chuck jaws you are using to squeeze the jam chuck.
Its shark jaws from vicmark on vm100 chuck
Tomislav, what type of chuck and jaw set are you using?. I would like to give it a go. What do you normally turn your bowl end diameter too?. They look great.
Thank you very much
I use vicmark chucks and in this video I used shark jaws, I think its 42mm.
Depending on size and density of wood,I turn from 800 to 2000 rpm ,but again I always make sure I have sound timber without splits
Really nice mate👌
Thanks buddy
Can that design style be used as a soup spoon? Have you made a video on making spoons?
Probably yes with some tweaks 😀
good stuff, well presented. my wife wants to request two of each , please?
No problem, contact me either through website or send me email😀
Why do the prelinary as you are doing and make so you can take the rounded bowl shape and handle and saw down the middle to create 2 blanks
Really like both of the designs. Your shop lighting and setup really work well for these videos -- the lighting is great. One question regarding the hollowing process; is there a reason you drill the depth hole before flattening the top of the ladle or is that personal preference?
Thank you very much sir, no particular reason, either way works the same 😀
Did i miss what kind of wood you made the jam chuck out of ,or does it even matter?
Really like them , it's pretty ingenious.
It was cherry but it really doesn't matter, any scrap will work
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning thanks that's kinda what I figured. I do want to thank you for what you are doing. You are helping me more than you can imagine. I wish I had half of your talent.
@chuckcagle5324 thank you, I still have a tone to learn and its all time and practice
Thanks . I will try.
I will be referring back to this video for the fabricated jamb chuck adapter!
I see you only sell your tools on your website, would you ever sell some scoops like these?
Yes I will, first I want to launch tools then I'll add custom orders for woodturning stuff😀

@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning thank you 🙏
@@tomdupree2758 I have a decent curve on mine but will compare. Thanks
You can use a spindle gouge to make it too.

👍👍❤❤
11:46 what causes that noise?
Being to agreessive and wood didn't like it😁
Usually I get a skip back doing this
Wonder if it would make any difference if I drilled all the way through the jam Chuck instead of using a chisel to finish after you bandsaw the cut. Maybe I’m missing something
You could for sure, I like to have something to prevent scoop going deeper, little shoulder.
But hole straight through will work lovely as well
Hate to see you reach round that rotating handle to control the lathe. Doesn’t the control box move so you could put it on the other end of the lathe whilst hollowing?
