      Just trade him to a place where he gets a starting role and dude can improve. I have this thought in my mind - what about a role that coach and team wants u to be in? Going from a bench warmer and a spark plug for ur team to a starter with consistant minutes and belief from ur coach and teammates- ur numbers can go all around without u changing ur game.

Do we really want to become the late 90's M.L.B? Why are we acting like it's normal or even possible for a man in his LATE 30's to drop 20 pounds of mostly fat, then put on 15 pounds of solid muscle? Really?!? One things missing though. Most of these guys have been shining for a reason:
    Lin went from being the third PG to the only guard due to injuries (even Melo was out in the beginning).
    Larry Hugues was coming off the bench behind prime Allen Iverson... everybody new at that time that Larry was a good potential. Mike James was playing for the Vince Carter'less Raptors in '06. The same team that got grilled with 81pts from Bean.

      It wasnt from Warren bubble performances.. jimmy and TJ had beef stemming from that altercation earlier in the season. He and the heat stated that they have the next game (the next time they meet) circled on a calendar. Due to players missing games during the regular season, they really didn't get to meet until the playoffs.. and then just like linsanity, Miami shut it down. Jimmy technically didn't "outplay" Warren. But anyone who's into basketball could see the heats defensive focus was to pester and stop Warren. Take care, yall

    I think these moments show how much better some players can get. Sometimes you just hit the zone, and you can play at your absolute best. Shots just go in, drive's go the way you want them, you seem to catch more openings.
    It's like all your mental blocks just go for a bit and you play the best your body can. True goats can just always play like that, but sometimes an average guy just gets that feeling, he banks a shot he otherwise wouldnt take because he feels confident, and then the snowball is rolling.

      @La'Rue Mathis that's what i was thinking. TJ was never going to make allstar out west regardless, but getting into the east was a perfect chance for him to play in a system that helps him, rather than relying on Eric Bledsoe getting him the ball (when he was there). As much as Booker improved these past 2 years, I never would have thought he'd be the one to jump to that level. I thought it would be Warren for sure, but i was wrong clearly, despite the stats, and the eye test

  • @AaronMichaelLong
    @AaronMichaelLong 4 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    "What happened?" Two things: 1) Coaches and players started analyzing his game footage to see how he was beating them, and came up with a counter. 2) Reversion to mean.
    What makes great NBA players truly great? When you *know* what's coming, and you still can't do anything about it.
    And that's kind of the problem with the game in its post 2004 format: Barely anyone can do anything about scoring, particularly at the perimeter. You can't touch the guy you're defending, so you can't keep them from getting to their spot, so really the defender is reduced to stopping layups and trying to distract the shooter while they're putting up a jumper. Everyone knows what's coming, and nobody can really stop it, they can only hope that you miss.

    For Mike James, maybe it was a contract year.
    In general human physiology is a complex and incredible thing. Getting in the zone is an magical thing. I remember my friend in HS got me to join a Catholic church league. I was trash at ball just tall at 6' 1/2", fast and athletic but no real hand eye coordination, dribbling, or shooting skills to speak of. I had all the raw abilities and could jump and touch almost the top of the square above the rim, just couldn't coordinate a dunk much less an alley-oop. The first day of practice we were doing a sort of layup line-style rebounding tip drill off the backboard. Coach tells me to go last and slam it home and I did with authority and it was beautiful. Now I've played countless pick up and intramural games for years leading up to, and after this and that one time was the only time in my life I've EVER slammed home a alley-oop or any type of put back dunk. And it wasn't for lack of trying because I've tried 100s of times. I've even played ball on a 9ft rim and still just never had the coordination to do it.
    Another time while working at Home Depot we started a small summer league at the Home Depot HQ in Vinings, GA where all the local stores would compete. First day of practice we went to "run and shoot" in Atlanta just to gel a bit as a team. I must have hit at least a dozen threes all net. I was literally automatic from three. Just str8 up swishes without even a single miss. And again I was NEVER ever before or after that single game even an ok shooter from three or any other spot on the court.
    Last example. I worked at Comcast cable and in the managers room there's was a strip of key hooks on the far wall about 30' from the door and many many days Id walk by when the room was empty and try and throw my keys from the door way, across the room and onto the key hook. It was the longest of shot, literally and figuratively, and of course never happened and most times never came too close. One day there was a group of higher-ups in the room talking and I walked up to the doorway and casually and smoothly tossed the keys straight onto the hook! Everyone was shocked one guy says, "No way! Man I bet you can't do that again!". I retrieve the keys walk back to the doorway and pow straight onto the exact same hook again! And of course the rest of my years there it never happened again.
    I've got several stories like that. Like showing up to little league practice the first day and with my grandfather watching, pitching like John Smoltz only to be named a starting pitcher and losing the job after a few games by never even being able to even pitch a ball into the strike zone with any type of consistency.
    The mind is an incredible thing when, during pressure its able to lock in. I guess some people have a much easier time being able to hone that ability and cultivate it.

After that it was as if I was released from the expectations of where I should fit in. My grades went up so much I jumped from the bottom 30% to top 3 by graduation. Sometimes the environment (even if it's not toxic or anything like that) limits your potential and molds the image you have of yourself. This definitely happens to players.
