Hi Rebecca. I am 57 years old and looking for a fresh career. I have just passed AAT Bookkeeping level 2 and 3 via online self study. This has given me the confidence to continue studying in this field. I am eventually looking to work as a bookkeeper for a company. Would I be right in thinking my next step is to learn accounting software levels 1 to 3 in order to progress?
HI, First of all congratulations with your success! X May I ask you how long did it take to finish both levels and pass the exams? Or how many hours did you study in a week? Thank you in advance Mary x
@@marym8662 thank you. Level 2 took 4 months with 2 exams and level 3 took 6 months with 3 exams. Study time was through an online provider and varied. I personally was disciplined enough to do 2 to 3 hours every week day and increase study time near the exams.
Hi hun yes this is definitely a good step in the right direction to undertake study on the accounting software elements and well done to you for changing your career :) If you have any other questions along the way don't hesitate to ask x

when I began university with a BA in criminology, simultaneously I started a job in bookkeeping. Four years later, I am pro with excel I can prepare and submit vat returns, bank analysis, self-assessments and payroll. However, I am not qualified and since I am looking to start my own bookkeeping practice, I wonder what is going to be the best route. Hi, thanks for the informative video, do u think it would be ok to start at level 3 AAT, with no prior qualifications in accounting just experience as an accounts assistant?
Yes you can absolutely start at that level with accounts assistance experience. There is a lot at level 3 which is repeated from level 2 to consolidate your knowledge x
@@RebeccasFinanceTutorials taking your advise helped me pass my first bookkeeping Exam!! 🎊 Thanks!!!!! When you have time can you make a video about booking pleeeease🥺
Hi. I started level 4 without doing the level 2 & 3 as I am working in finance already. However, in my role I mainly deal with account payable, supplier transactions and payments, invoicing and reporting. I am scared that I overestimated my knowledge. What is your opinion? Will someone be able to cover the information missing and finish the course? What sort of materials you used on level 2 & 3? Thank you
Hi hun absolutely you are not overstating your knowledge at all. Starting off in accounts payable is a great place to start and will mean that you have a really good understanding of the purchase ledger process which you can then use towards other areas that you want to work in, in future x
you are very good, thank you for the advice. I want to ask you something, I am at the beginning, I want to start a career in accounting and I want to start it from the beginning, but I would like to finish the courses faster and more online because I don't have time. I am also old and I would like to finish the courses faster. What do you recommend? thanks.
Hi Vio thank you for your kind comment, I would recommend self study either through the ICB or AAT where you can simply sit the exams when you are ready. The ICB exams are 100 percent online whereas the aat must be sat in a centre but you can sit them consecutively for most exams x
Really insightful video thank you for posting! I'm in my 30s currently working in as an EA. I'm keen to look into the world of finance and get some qualifications in this field, with an aim of working in finance in the future. Would I start at AAT L1 or L2?
Hello, I am about to start new challenges in accounting field. I came from IT background so this is all new to me. I would like to complete AAT Level 2 , 3 and 4 within a year, could you kindly guide me through where to start and could it be possible to finish all 3 levels in one year if i put lots of effort? Or any other suggestions for me that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hello there, i have no background in finance, not the greatest in maths but not bad. I was thinking about starting level 1 book-keeping progressing to level 2 then perhaps level 3. Could i get a job in bookkeeping after doing level 2 with no prior experience? Some places require qualifications, degrees and work experience, what do you know about this and please share, thanks.
Yes that's true it doesn't guarantee a job however there are far fewer bookkeepers and accountants in ratio to companies, self employed and business owners so there is a talent gap and shortage currently which works in your favour x
I did btec business at A level (distinction) & Alevel maths where i got a C and maths at gcse - A. Isit best forme to go for the Level 3 att or level 2 att?
Hi hun if you go to the aat website you can find a skills check which will help you to determine level 2 or level 3 but I would always recommend level 2 as it helps you to build your foundational knowledge x
Great video. I want to do level 2 accounting, but after I complete it i want to move on to ACCA. I have a degree, and think after I understand the basics I think I could move straight on. What do you think?
I started my AAT Level 3 I’m September and I’m currently working as a payments processor with chance to train in the job at an accounting firm. I’m finding the level 3 very hard and I’ve failed my first 2 exams with a resit next Tuesday. Any suggestions ?
Hi Ollie, I would start with looking at your current study technique and don't worry I have failed an exam before today it happens to the best of us x try working through a workbook on the topic at hand and perhaps the mocks to flush out any areas you are finding difficult. If there is a particular topic you would like me to cover just let me know x
Hi how heavy contented is the level 4 AAT compared to A-levels and the level 2/ level 3 AAT? Is there a ton of info to memorise or is it more in detail?
Level 4 is definitely more wordy than level 2 and level 3 and I would say it is the equivalent of a final year diploma so I would expect that there would be more detail and information as it is also a consolidation of level 2 and level 3.
Brilliant! In my experience you can change your career at any age particular with a career in finance so it's never too late and you can lean into the skills you have already gained from other professions. Any questions along the way just let me know and I will do my best to assist

Hey I’ve just started college at the age of 16 and I start studying aat accounting level 2 on the 20th of September , is there any groups that I can join thag will boost me and help me understand the course easier or groups that could help me if I was struggling
Hey hey, im thinking about starting with level 2 AAT and then progress to level 3/4 do you think i should go uni or can i just apply for a licensed accountant after level 4 or do a chaltered course after?
Hi yes you can go to university and then undertake a chartered membership with CIMA, ACCA or ACA for example. However my personal preference has always been to learn on the job and those three years of experience learning the AAT will boost your confidence and give you the foundational knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping. It is all down to personal preference really.
Hello Rebecca. Great video, thanks for making it. I have a couple of questions. Regarding AAT Level 2, I've found a distance learning provider and their fee is clear. The assessment provider is charging £119 to sit the exam. Is this fee applicable to each of the four units in the syllabus?
Hi Jim yes most likely it will be per exam but it should state this on their website. You can in most cases book your own exam which costs around 60 pound per exam which would be less but definitely double check this with the training provider x
Hi Kris, there are a few differences but mainly in what your licence allows you to do, for instance if you are a chartered accountant then you may sign off a set of accounts for instance x
Hello there Rob so I would say it makes you very employable because of the skillset taught through the qualification, it means you can take this into other industries to and includes topics such as ethics, financial management, risk, management reporting as well as the bookkeeping elements and commercial acumen of running a business

Hello, do you know how I can complete the AAT faster? Like without a training provider? My course doesnt officially start until feb so right now im just working for a firm. My training provider is saying its going to take like 16 motnhs for level 3 and level 4 is also something ridiculous. If you know how i can do it by myself please let me know
Hi Zain yes I know of a few individuals who have self studied and completed level 2 to level 4 within 12 months :) you can either chose a training provider to go with and pay for their study materials etc or you can self study and pay for the text books only and book your exams privately. I'm a little worried by my age but the comments have helped with my fears! My question is if you self study which books would you recommend and at which points during the year can you sit the exams. Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. Thanks for your time.
Hi Alistair thank you for your comment, I would absolutely say that you do not need to worry about your age hun with accountancy and finance. It is a career which you can build for yourself in a relatively shorter space of time than other careers and there are lots of options. I would always recommend studying the AAT as I myself sat this and found this a very good building block at the start of my career. I would recommend either obtaining First Intuition AAT books or Osbourne because they are very informative and keep things simple which is what you need when you first start out :) I have a video upcoming to be released hopefully tomorrow which might also help with this area but I hope the above has helped in the mean time.

Hi A.S usually a degree would provide you with exemptions towards the AAT however if you go to the AAT website they have a criteria and exemption checker where you can put in your qualification and it will let you know what exemptions you have :)

when I began university with a BA in criminology, simultaneously I started a job in bookkeeping. Four years later, I am pro with excel I can prepare and submit vat returns, bank analysis, self-assessments and payroll. Hi Hans to become chartered you can take either the ACCA or ACA x
Hi, thanks for the informative video, do u think it would be ok to start at level 3 AAT, with no prior qualifications in accounting just experience as an accounts assistant?

Hi. I started level 4 without doing the level 2 & 3 as I am working in finance already.
