    Good video. Why not do the right thing like you learnt at college and sow the headland last. Even try it in one field and I guarantee you will see a huge difference. I never seen anyone sow the headlands first.

    Good video always drill headland last with combi drill we always used to plough and drill or I’ll get the plough man to do the same number of passes round that way you know where to lift in and out.

  • @davay42

    Great to see the seed being sown at last, a good hand brush or paint brush would be handy to keep in the cab for the dusty cab, also i was wonderin what the outrigger does on the pottinger ? Is it for gps or somethin ? 🙂

    better off drilling the headlands after the field work with a combi drill like that one Phil, I know there will be some overlaps but the finished product will be neater and the power harrow will fluff up whats been turned on nicely. Also the drill will have a half width shut off , for the first time round to make ya sprayer headland tramline match up, just dont forget to put it back to full width haha

    • @FARMERPHIL3690
      @FARMERPHIL3690  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I was afraid if I’d done it that way without having anyway to know when to lift and drop I’d either wildly overlap or miss it altogether

    • @Ake_88
      @Ake_88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@FARMERPHIL3690 yeah I know what you mean , we used to just lift up when what you can see of the bonnet tip was in line with the edge of the field , wasn’t far off 5 times round the headlands give it take half a width …
      Cracking video though, should all be up in a week and looking well 👍👍

    To do your half run, can u not shut off half the coulters from the cab on that sower? Also is that the sower that will do spacing for maize and beet?
    If u still had the smaller wheels you would likely be going a split gear faster.

    Your hitting my wheelhouse now. Compaction. Dump the Bridgestone, dump the front weight in favour of a press or something that you lift on the headlands and let down when your going up and down the field. We try plough main field, sow then plough and sow headlands but shy of that sow headlands last !! That was your not turning on what you’ve already sown and doing a certain amount of tilling to take out your tracks

    Whether you sow the headlands first or last depends on a lot of things like your type of soil, the drill used and the personal choice of the person doing the sowing, some types of soil compact like concrete and others do not compact that much, my own soils compact like concrete so we sow the headlands last after a gentle rip up with a triple K before we drill spring barley with a Massey 30 combination disc drill that has fertilizer and seed drilled direct together, the winter barley headlands are not even ploughed until the center of the field is already one passed drilled with seed only

    You need a degree in maths to be a farmer nowadays. Even the screens look complicated.
    When you talk about ‘putting in tramlines’, is that leaving a seedless gap the width of the tractor wheels?

    Today farming (for the most part) in Ireland has become the domain of the wealthy landowner and multinational corporations… As the kami-kaze sanctions, ricochetting violently back from Russia wreak havoc upon the Euro, the EU and the Irish economy, farming will inevitably return from whence it came. This is a good thing. Will I have sympathy for the wealthy landowners who pretend to be farmers? No, I will not, as they are today’s landed gentry who feign kinship with the land and its people.
