A Chinese Style Greenhouse: Chinese Garden VLOG 03

    In this video we are building a Chinese style greenhouse, also known as a Chinese high tunnel, quite similar to the poly tunnels I've seen in the west. But in this area of China, they are up against a wall - a brick or dirt wall facing north, and then the plastic cover towards the south. I think this is a way to preserve heat in the bricks or the dirt during the very cold nights.

    Your husbands family reminds me so much of my grandparents and the way I was raised in rural Texas in the USA. So people are all the same that are close to the land. My grandparents were my security...so it tugs my heart to see them so attentive to your sons. They will be a big part of their life and give them life long memories. I so miss spending time picking and preserving food with my MamaRene ...and the times we all got together to plant the large garden of super dry soil like your in laws have. I remember my PapaJoe...every year plowing the garden with a horse...or if he didn't have an horse...he pushed the plow himself in that hard clumpy soil. We ate well with our garden...but we also worked hard trying to keep ahead of the "bind weed"...but it is my fondest memories with us all getting dirty...working together for a common goal...food during the year that we grew ourselves. I remember in the 70's I was young adult and making my first garden in my first home and was telling my grandparents all about ORGANIC gardening...LOL! They was amused...asking me what exactly was it. I explained the theory. Papa said .....well we was too poor and it was too far to go to get any chemicals or feed for the cows to make fertilizer...so they had to make due with steer manure, raise their own feed, and pulling the worms off the tomatoes by hand and putting them in a bucket of water. Your last video showed the sheep manure method of sowing...and my great grandma...knew the value of her goats leaving her offerings. She loved her goats so much that she went out herding them and got caught in a tornado storm...sheltered in a cave...had twins...and came home the next morning with the goats and her two babies...one of which was my Papa.

      do you know? China has the cleanest air and water in the world. You can go to Tibet in China, where there is the bluest sky and the most beautiful starry sky in the world. Standing on the top of the snowy mountain, you can see a place hundreds of kilometers away.
      This is because there are few factories and thermal power plants in Tibet, no air pollution, and no water pollution.

    • @GladysRWhite
      @GladysRWhite 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MiriamFollin + Hello there; I didn't read any comments! You may want to know: the main differences between a greenhouse and a tunnel are that in a greenhouse, plants are usually grown in pots on a table while a tunnel has the plants growing right in the ground as they would in a garden. Greenhouses are typically designed to use heaters and powered ventilation systems or evaporative coolers.

    Please show us how your Mother in Law puts up her veggies at the end of season. I was super excited to see her using dried spinach or greens of some sort...it reminded me of when I found a couple of large gunny sacks of some dried plants after my grandmother left the farm...I couldn't figure out what it was or why she would keep bags of dried up plants and me not be aware of it. LOL! NOW I wonder if she was perhaps keeping dried Lambsquarter (a delicious wild weed we harvested yearly to can). I have no idea what she might have used it for...but possible she had dried it for hard times...and added it to soup. Am particularly interested in all their traditional ways of preserving foods...

    You’re lucky because your husband is hardworking. In fact …everyone in that family is hardworking . Laziness is a common trait among the young nowadays. The Chinese are a hardworking race all over the world.

    Can you grow okra in that climate?? I am in pacific NW now and it MIGHT be possible in a high tunnel...but it certainly isn't with just a hoop/plastic row cover. It's a beautiful plant...and prolific.

    Your husband really love you very much. He could do everything for you. So it's no wonder that you can stay in rural China from Sweden.

      Oh that's such a tricky questions! I love a lot of traditional music, both Swedish, Scottish and Irish. I also like some classical music, and then acoustic groups. But I always forget the names, so I always struggle to find the music again!
