  • Is aging a disease? How old does your body say it is? How can we live longer, healthier lives? Dr. David Sinclair, Harvard professor of genetics and bestselling author, joins ISB co-founder and genomics pioneer Dr. Lee Hood for a conversation about the very latest in aging research.
    David A. Sinclair, Ph.D., A.O. is a Professor in the Department of Genetics, Blavatnik Insitute, and co-Director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research at Harvard Medical School. He is best known for his work on understanding why we age and how to slow its effects. He has published over 200 scientific papers, is a co-inventor on over 50 patents, and is the New York Times bestselling author of Lifespan. He serves as co-chief editor of the scientific journal Aging. In 2018, he became an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
    Lee Hood, MD, PhD is a world-renowned scientist. Dr. Lee Hood co-founded Seattle’s Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in 2000 and served as its first President from 2000-2017. In 2016, ISB affiliated with Providence, and Dr. Hood became Providence’s Senior Vice President and Chief Science Officer. He is also Chief Strategy Officer and Professor at ISB. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine.

    Lee (Leroy) Hood revolutionized methods and instruments to analyze proteins and nuclei acids,, He, if anyone, could come up with ways to quickly measure the methylome., NAD etc I would highly recommend following his ISB ( Science transformation health ) program . Lee is a legend in molecular biology, and most of all a doer who makes his ideas become real applications !!

    We are eternal. I am 86 and I like you to read a little poem that I composed some fifty years ago. The title is ETERNITY and goes like this: I was the sky and I was the sea, I was the wind and I was the tree. For this reason I know, that I was, that I am, and after I die, through the atoms of my body, in a million forms and in millions of millennia, I will always be. Life is like a vacation, short or long, that we should enjoy in full. Italians have an expression: to pay and to die, as late as possible. I am sure that your acquired knowledge about growing young , helps the people of the world.

    Actually Dr. Hood right here is a good example of successful aging as exemplified by his sharp mind and concise language.
    Dr. Sinclair is surprisingly humble when talking about how long hoping to live, at least verbally, a stark contrast to his huge efforts and achievement in the area of aging research. This contrast made me wonder.

    Great work... Great having people popularising cutting edge science in such a popular way. Bioinfomatics sounds like a great tool for medical studies massively opening up avenues for research. Dr Sinclair reminds me of the scientists and doctors that Bill Bryson talks about in The Body. Not quite as extreme. All very interesting. Cold showers and missing out breakfast occasionally for me :) Look forward to human studies. Controversial topic so it will be interesting how it develops.

      Are you now deciding to become so superficial and start to go after looks, Remember beauty is only skin deep. But in your defence good skin also goes with good brain. Both are ectodermal in origin. So if you can keep your skin glistening smooth without use of creams it means your brain is in good shape too. You might notice vegans having great looking skin. I can actually tell if someone is a vegan by their skin suppleness. So do the work to get "the looks?

But when I had heard what he eats lots of vegetables, he stopped eating desserts, sometimes bit of fish etc and recently more interested in olive oil in other interviews, I tried it myself. And he looks better than he used to. I stopped taking diary, eat veg daily although I am no vegan. As we age, joint movement becomes stiffer and less flexible because the amount of lubricating fluid inside our joints decreases and the cartilage becomes thinner. This is very common to elderly as they age 45 and above. In order to keep your bones and joints strong as you age, regular walking will help tone the leg muscles, build strength and improve circulation. Experts recommend walking for a minimum of 30 minutes, at least 5 times a week. Running, swimming, jogging, biking, trekking, leg strengthening exercises a few times a week may also help. Accompany your exercise with NMN by Vitruvin Nutrition. NMN supplementation increases the endurance performance of middle-aged people improving aerobic capacity. I will be 75 on my next birthday and I am still fit as a fiddle.

    Kombucha can also help promote the production of NAD+ in the body, that's probably why it's called "the tea of eternal life"

    There are two broad types of people namely those who move a lot and those who move very little. First, two types of young people emerge namely one that plays a lot and the rest who do not, told not to, or prevented from play. Then two types of adults are made namely one that exercises and one that just pass day by day. The elderly follow the human instinct or advice of doctors to start slow movements. In all cases, gradual degradation of muscular buildup can be slowed, maintained or reversed by incremental intensity of physical exercises in order to avoid injuries and discomforting muscle sores afterwards.

    Honestly, I just don't want to be a wrinkly grey-haired useless woman who can’t remember stuff in my ripe age. If I can get older and be able to sustain my body slowing down aging or even biologically reverse aging to my prime, that is ideal. Obviously, nobody can live forever, but I feel like we can live a lot longer, so why not slow our age rather than age slowing us down? This is why I am constantly taking Dr. Sinclair’s NMN, a NAD booster and indeed a health provider. With NMN Vitruvin Nutrition (500mg) a day every morning with protein drink and Greek yogurt, it has radically changed everything. All sorts of problems have disappeared. Now, age is just a number.

    Why do we age? It's simple! It's called oxidative stress and just living and breathing causes it.

    • @joannaelizabeth4749
      @joannaelizabeth4749 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True! Taking an NAD booster to increase your NAD levels as David Sinclair is talking about will address this. Increasing your NAD levels increases cellular repair and deceases oxidative stress. Did you watch the whole video? He's been researching various ways to slow down and even partly "reset" age.

    • @Total_Body_Fitness_USA

      @@joannaelizabeth4749 I'm very familiar with David Sinclair and his works. I'm an exercise physiologist with specialized training in functional and holistic medicine for the last 27 years. I also specialize in disease prevention and the reversal of disease. You know what my best go to supplement is when it comes to boosting NAD levels? Niacin! Work your way up to 1000mg per day and then incorporate using an infrared sauna and infrared light therapy and watch what happens! If you have blood sugar issues then take the Niacin with 500mg of Niacinamide. Also throw in some LDN (low dose naltrexone) and hold on. Oh, and throw Resveratrol in the trash. It has some horrible properties that would take too long to explain here! Take care!

      Did you read or watch lectures on the roles of sirtuins and the epigenetic effects related to aging? Oxidative stress might play some role but it is definitely not the whole story. You should check out Sinclair. Guarente, and Kenyon's work.

    • @Total_Body_Fitness_USA
      @Total_Body_Fitness_USA 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@angelogarcia1918 I know Sinclair. I've been in the health industry for over 27 years! As a health professional, I will say this. It's ALL about oxidative stress which then leads to ROS which then leads to inflammation. Yes, it's much more than that - but this is how it all starts and you will NEVER stop it! Why? Just because Sinclair has a theory doesn't mean he is absolutely correct. Can you slow down the aging process? Of course, but your genome will determine a lot of this. Can you manipulate or turn off or turn on certain genes? Of course, BUT science is not quite there yet and even if it were, you'd still age! There is a lot to this and I have had many debates with Sinclair regarding this topic. He promotes a lot of supplements. One is resveratrol and in my opinion it's one of the worst supplements you can take. Number one supplements on my list are Niacin and NT-Factor. In the end do what works for YOU! We are ALL different and what I have learned the most from 27 years of learning and teaching about the human body is that we are all different. You should get a DNA analysis done and then start by taking astaxanthin, R-Lipoic Acid, high dose liposomal C, working up to high dose 1g niacin, add in the NT-Factor and use infrared sauna and infrared light therapy on a daily basis. This basic protocol alone will reduce oxidative stress, decrease toxic load, and increase mitochondria and it's function along with repairing cell membranes. Oh, if you take the high dose Niacin, add in B6 and TMG. If you already have an autoimmune disorder or inflammation, then add in LDN - low dose naltrexone. Also, this is just the basics. As I stated, every person is different and I design custom protocols for an individual based on their DNA and countless blood tests. Take care!
