As an Exercise Physiologist I applaud how accurate the exercise based information was!
I did a little cheer when he said ‘no one type of exercise is the best’, because people are constantly saying there is a secret special exercise that fixes it all.

I'm 73 years old and have engaged in resistance training for over thirty years. My current exercise activity and nutrition focus on slowing the process of sarcopenia and the decline in other physiological functions. I have used supplements to augment my food diet. Currently, my supplements concentrate on the mitochondria. Your "Lifespan with Dr. David Sinclair" TH-cam series is excellent.

62 and loving life. I gave up driving in 1998 and choose to live within 2 miles from where I work. I ride my beach cruiser bike and walk everywhere. I am always amazed how people tell me those are strange choices, yet clearly they are healthy choices. I look far younger than most my age, but more importantly, I feel younger. Your health is your wealth. We must take accountability for our own health and happiness. Love this podcast. I did a lot of intermittent fasting in my youth, not understanding how healthy it was for me, I only knew I felt better while doing it. Thanks for explaining it all here.

This was another great episode! Learning so much. Just sharing my notes here.
Too much iron is dangerous for longevity. Drives the accumulation of zombie cells.
    Survival sensors:
    - Mtor: senses amino acids. Lower levels of BCAAs are good
    - Ampk: senses energy (glucose).
    - Sirtuins: sense NAD (goes up and down with food and exercise)
Insulin tells the body that's there sugar to use.
    -Exercise prevents diseases. Reduces mortality.
-Walking after a meal stimulates the production of new blood vessels and turns on ampk (registers energy -atp-).
-Vigorous exercise. Low levels of oxygen (Hypoxia) are good (though doesn't feel good).
-As we get older, our muscles become less sensitive to the insulin that the pancreas is putting out. This is due to aging.
-glucose in the bloodstream damages blood vessels.
-Exercise impacts epigenome (regulator of DNA).
-80% of future health is manipulable and modifiable (epigenome)
    Weight training:
    - Maintain hormone levels, ability to walk well and have good posture, makes look better
    - Is hard to get muscle as you get older.
    - Breaking your hips is equivalent to have stage 4 cancer. Mortality rates are that bad after hip injury.
    ○ How to avoid breaking hips? Build muscle and work on flexibility.
    - Senescent cells: when the epigenome becomes deregulated, cells can either die or they can be shut down, so they are zombie cells. Slowing the formation of zombie cells or killing them is important. Exercise kills these cells.
    Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
    - Hyperbaric chamber where pressured is increased.
    - Can reverse aging.
    - It's similar to hypoxia. So it's similar to exercise.
    Cold Therapy
    - Production of brown fat (burns white fat and enhances metabolism).
    - Cryotherapy, cold showers, sleep with few blankets.
    Heat
    - Saunas reduce 20% in cardiovascular disease.
Let me know if you want me to keep posting these notes, I am on Twitter @juampiaranovich

Are you acquainted with or have read a book published by Durk Pearson & Sandy Shaw in the 1980s called The Life Extension Companion? We read that book when it was published. We were impressed. But I don't think it has extended our life. There are so many things that makes a lot of people live longer and many others that will make our lives shorter. If you do have a way for us to reverse genetic and environmental damage it would be amazing. We are in our 70s and our chances of success are limited. Thanks for the series. Good luck!

My local spa has a sauna and cold pool (60 degrees F). I LOVE to cycle between them. At first, the time in the cold pool is brief, maybe 30 seconds. But as I keep doing it, I can eventually stay in long enough to do some stretches and use their waterfall (it cascades out of the wall) on my shoulders. For me, I do it because it helps with muscle soreness. But also, I do come out of it feeling very exhilarated yet very relaxed. Now I understand why.

Tried to get Medicare to pay for treating both my parents with it after strokes which seemed to be a no brainer but wasn't covered and I didn't have the funds at the time to cover it myself. You guys got one important thing wrong. Back in time when humans lived in the nature we were mostly less stressed. Today with all this media, loans, divorces and so on keeps us stressed constantly. That is what makes your body lose the balance together with process foods and no outdoor exercise. Keep up the good job in analyzing our genes and our inner game.

Dr. Sinclair, What do you think about high calorie, high protein diets like the ones that are recommended for muscle building (hypertrophy) programs? For what I understand, you can't have that much calories overall in a single meal, but it's been proven to be effective on building muscle. Is it worth it to go that path if slowing down aging is your goal or it's actually not beneficial?

Thank you so much for the free education! And it's really not so hard to understand either for a layman like me. Right now I'm getting the key ideas and translating them and explaining them in details in Chinese, putting them in my blog hoping to convince more people cognitively to get more exercise including my parents. Now I seem to have very strong arguments to back me up! Exercise is so important. Thank you both, please keep up more updates.

Thank you so much to both of you. I'm 41 years old, originally from Philadelphia now living in Finland. Im playing music here with legondary rock and roller Andy McCoy but recently times have been tuff due to Covid and I have not been taking advantage of doing the things I should to to maintain my health. Nothing bad, just mostly sitting around and not getting proper exercise and not using the Sauna's that are available here in Finland. Because I have been watching these pod cast episode's, I have been motivated to learn and start to implement the simple strategies you discuss. I'm looking forward on the next pod cast and if there is any way I could chat with either of you about my health and what I can do to not only better myself but also help people around me and spread the knowledge I would love to. Thank you, Kiitos...Matthew.

Great podcast. Amazing scientific information. A lots of the information in this podcast regarding diets and lifestyles are spot on. I am currently living in Italy and I see a lots of people in their 90s looking like they are 60, full of energy riding bikes or walking everywhere. I see that most Italians dont usually eat breakfast, they just drink a coffee (espresso) and when they have lunch or dinner is not too much food, small portions and lots of vegetables. The Italians eat food in order (primi and secondo piatti) and then they have a digestive drink at the end. Eating in Italy or in the Mediterranean is an experience because the way is cooked (pasta cooked only a few minutes) and the way you eat and how is almost sacred because if you dont follow it people will look at you weird hahaha. And of course, every meal comes with the wine!
I ordered Athletic Greens, I hope it taste good!🤣

Ooof, I lost over half my hair 3 months after having Delta. It’s finally starting to grow back but I lost so much. So overwhelming. They are calling 2021 The Year Americas Hair Fell Out. Maybe do a cast on the Covid hair loss? There’s a yoububer who is losing hair 17 months after just losing her smell and taste a few days. It’s insane. Feels like radiation sickness. My Thyroid test came back normal but I am always iron and D deficient no matter what I do it seems. There are articles all over the internet about Covid hair loss. I’m not on Fb but a lot of my friends and family are coming to me telling me more and more they are seeing people sharing about their Covid hair loss experience. It’s becoming a sort of an epidemic of its own. 😣 not fun at all. I went from my hair very thick and long to filling the toilet every day for almost two months. I’ve heard of plumbers posting about pulling wads of hair out of the septic lines from Covid hair loss. It’s no joke.
    Bless.

I was taking Donotage NMN and resveratrol every day and wasn't feeling well so I stopped and felt better. I take Vital Proteins, two scoops and I exercise 60 minutes 6 days a week which consists of doing X3 with bands which takes 20 minutes, a 20-minute abb work out, and walk at 3.2 MPH at a 2% grade for 20 minutes with a 15Lb weight vest which is really strengthens my legs to where walking for 4 miles without the vest is nothing and I feel great. I think clearly and at 74 and my reaction time is very good when driving and still can run around with younger adults. I'm losing weight and gaining mass which is really nice. Some people don't believe my age when I tell them.

I'm so happy for my grandkids that they will probably see the cure of aging happen in their lifetimes (maybe when they are my age). It's a huge system engineered with many odds and ends to kill us in the long term. A truely sad state of affairs. For my wife and I, it will come too late. It's all falling apart under our feet. Allowed to see the promised land, but we shall not enter it. It's alright though when you know that others continue.

Does "cold" have to be actually cold or just relative?
For example if you live in the Middle East with no air conditioning even a 20degC bath would seem very cold, where as a resident of Alaska would thing the same 20degC bath to be quite warm I'd think.....

I love this podcast and everything about staying young as long as possible , but I thought of something recently , I would NEVER want to live as long and outlive everyone I love , nope , especially my wife and daughter , mortality has many wisdoms , and "everything that has a beginning has an end" As Agent Smith Said in the Matrix lol , Watch the green mile , tom hanks in that movie his character lived to 108 and was still going he outlived everyone he loved , and it was sad , BUT all being said the way I live is not to die, the way I live is dying to live
