  • I returned back to Ironman Racing after a long break from it. I made big progress and am excited about trying to race Kona next year. I go into off season now and end my year happy and full of love. I know I am capable of more and can't wait to show that.

Congrats Sam! It was nice meeting you in MD. You've been an inspiration leading up to this race (my first IM). Looking forward to following you throughout next season and watching you crush it! Btw: Now that I have actually done an IM, I have an even greater appreciation for how fast you are. Truly remarkable.

Awwww we love Leo too, Yo yo yo! Appreciate the race recap, Sam...I was following your progress that day and could almost picture what was happening throughout as I raced IMMD last year, my first full! Would have loved to see ya there and I feel badly that you missed out on all those lovely jelly fish whiplashes across the face, LOL. 🤪 Enjoy your off season, daddy and God bless your family, Megan 🙏

Michael Weiss - Doper: In November 2011, Weiss was given a two-year ban for a blood doping infringement in 2005 while competing in mountain biking. An independent commission of Austria's anti-doping agency (Nationale Anti-Doping Agentur Austria, NADA), said that it had found Weiss to be guilty of having his blood taken for enrichment at a blood lab in Vienna in 2005. NADA initially cleared Weiss in September 2010, but that decision was reversed a year later and subsequently issued the ban from competition.

Thanks for taking the time to grab a picture with me Friday! It was my first full distance and obviously I was disappointed in the swim being shortened. Unfortunately I ran into a flat on the bike and had to wait over an hour and half for a new tire. Rethinking tubular tires. I managed to regroup and finish strong.

YO YO YO! So excited to see you in Maryland! I was a swim course Kayaker. The swim was shortened for two reasons. 1- Looking at the forecasted winds, there was a decent chance a small craft advisory could be imposed on the Choptank River. There already was one on the Chesapeake Bay (not too far away at all). If swimmers were in the water and that happened, they would have to be pulled as the support boats could no longer operate (USCG rules). 2- A couple swimmers died in an IM event in Europe (I believe) recently. I'm just glad that they had a swim at all for all of the participants. I did the 70.3 there once when it was cancelled. Major bummer. Hats off to the staff that made the call to have a swim at all!! They really were exhausting every option to give the pros and ag folks the best event possible.
But on a serious note: as a looong time fan but a life long Eastern Shoreman, seriously, LOBSTER CAKE?!?! My gosh man, made me cringe hearing that hahaha. You obviously didn't have a good crab cake here because if you had, you'd certainly remember it! Hopefully next time wink wink.
Glad I got to see you here on my home turf, proud of you, your perfomance and I hope that you have a great off season with the family. Well deserved and can't wait to see you CRUSH 2024.

Thanks for the information!! I figured it was a good call and the right call. I imagine the pros would have been through but have to consider everyone and that the cutoff is 2:20 and that gives times for conditions to change drastically.

Ketones shut down fat metabolism hard. That safety net is gone once you down your first dose, so you better make 110% sure you keep supplying enough ketones and carb to meet energy demand up until the end of the race. You just got first hand experience of this.

@@SamYoYoYoLong I would suggest you talk more about this with people you trust. The research is sparse, and replication of studies even more so, if not unheard of. Individual response is often thrown around. So between us, I think you go long and hard enough every week to test this for yourself and figure out what works for you. I'll be cheering from the sidelines!

    • @ironj03
      @ironj03 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

From my understanding. Ketones are produced when the body is “mobilizing fats” to be used as energy. So essentially taking in Ketones is the taking in of “already mobilized fats”.
      1 Glucose =2 pyruvate =35-38 atp (1 pyruvate = 1 acety-coa=18atp per)
      1 ketone= 22 atp
You are essentially taking in alternate forms of ready to use fuel by taking in ketones and glucose.
Taking in glucose keeps the body having glucose available for the muscle so we done use our glycogen stores up as fast. So taking glucose reduces mobilization of glycogen. Mobilization of glycogen is fast and easy so we don’t notice the switch from sugar in the blood from eating to glycogen release (you can notice but it isn’t a huge shift in energy needed to make it available)
So, taking in ketones reduces the mobilization of fat (breaking down of fatty acid chains to make ketones to be used”
The “wall” is the switch over to when you drastically start dipping into having to mobilize fat. Fat has a ton of calories, almost 2x as much as carbs in density. However, the body needs more time to break down the kind fatty acid chains to then make ketones “readily available”.
So I think I’m conclusion it may be possible that ketone dosing during a race, raises the levels of ketones in the blood, making the body think that it doesn’t need to mobilize its own fat as much and therefore ketone supplements during a race may ramp down the bodies own metabolism of fats.
Just to share my insights on this interesting question
