    I've owned both, my Stihl lasted 2 years of everyday cutting. Which was pretty good I thought.. so probably over 1000 cords of wood !! My Husqvarna was still running when I got out of that game after 10 years or 6-7000 cords!!!!

      Saws don’t just die. It’s made from components and those can all be replaced. What failed on your 881?

    Hi, Thanks for the video. I bought a Husqvarna 80cc, 380CD saw back in 1976. I liked it so much that I became a dealer for eight and a half years. The 380CD is still running strong after nearly fifty years. The only thing I had to do for it is change the fuel hose fifteen years ago. I just wonder if that Stihl will be running fifty years from now. Over the years I've added six more Huskies to my collection. Never a problem with any of them. No problems reported form any of my customers either. Several of them have passed, but their Husqvarna saws are still running strong. You can take away most of what I own, but touch my Husky and you've crossed the line! LOL Shalom/gw

    My 20” Stihl 391 melts through logs th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 but I find myself grabbing this Oregon more because it’s quit and theirs no engine maintenance. You still need to maintain the chain and bar though. It cuts great even though it doesn’t have the power or weight of a gas saw, and the bucking spikes work really well, almost too well actually. I actually burnt up the motor on my first one using the bucking spikes. I pushed it too much through cottonwood, but I liked it enough to buy a second one. I make sure not to get the motor too hot now and it’s been running great. It’s still heavy enough with enough power to melt through most cuts too. When it stops cutting so well make sure there aren’t wood chips stuck in the chain and don’t let the chips clog the saw. Remember when you see sawdust instead of chips it’s time to sharpen the chain. I tried the self sharpening, I didn’t think it worked that well. I like that when you let go of the trigger the chain stops almost immediately. It’s tool less adjustment and bar removal is a snap. Like all saws they leak bar oil, so don’t store it full, and open the cap just a little to prevent pressure from ambient temperature changes. I store it on a piece of cardboard on a tote lid to contain any mess. Make sure you get some bar oil with the saw, it comes with just enough for you to start cutting but run out before you’re finished with whatever you’re cutting.

    I had a 288xp for years, anyone who runs big saws never gets tired of it when you get over a 100cc it's really a hard comparison there both beast in there own right

  • @johncoleman2495

    They're both impressive beasts! My take is the reason the Stihl is struggling is it's getting chip bound. It can't clear the chips as fast as it makes them. When it's dogged in it's filling up the cut with chips every time it's rocked back. Then has to cut the again and binds up. I have always felt RS chain is super aggressive right out of the box. The Husqvarna is an old design albeit a legend! It's showing its age. I think that's why if you check it's no longer listed on Husqvarnas web site. I suspect there's something new along the lines of the 572/592xp coming soon. I'm a husky guy at heart but I'll concede....the Stihl will outperform the 3120 all things being equal. I've never had the opportunity to run the 880/881 but did get to make 2 cuts in a hard maple about 33-34" in diameter with a 3120. That thing was a monster. Both in power and size/weight. With that said, I'd rather have a ported 395xp because it doesn't beat you up so bad! You're more productive if you can cut all day.

    Great video and nice saws from what I understand skip chain takes less power to run less cutters making contact with wood myself I still prefer full comp seems smoother even when filed more aggressively also felling spike design can cause binding up once against spikes and cutting you can slightly twist the power head and helps with that binding problem especially if falling a tree or bucking thanks

    My 066 flattop pulls a 36 full comp full chisel through dead hedge buried and doesn't jerk or bind up.

  • @wesmccollaum
    @wesmccollaum 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    That is why I like my Husky is for the low end torque and how smooth it cuts, but I also like my Stihl for the raw power and durability, a Stihl will outlast a Husy in my opinion..But how well a saw cuts also depends a lot on technique, everyone cuts a certain way.

  • @tonytribisonna9886
    @tonytribisonna9886 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    There is nothing wrong with STIHL ms881 using the wrong chain in that wood that’s why you have bad vibrations.
    I own both the same saws the Stihl ms 881 has more power and torque cuts faster than my husky 3120
    I never use chisel chain on those big saws Semi
    Chisel is much smoother and safer less kick back.

  • @rjc9000

    The husky is based on a 30 year old design where the 881 is newly designed saw. The 881 also has more displacement and is strato engine.

    I always enjoy watching the Stihl guys do all sorts of girl math to explain why the Stihls are still better, despite clearly cutting slower. 😀
    Really, that 881 just had rakers too low for that dry wood. I'd take either of them any day over an axe. Great video! Even though I'm 2 years late to the party.

    They are Both Great Saws

  • @videocardzrule354
    @videocardzrule354 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Both saws will absolutely suck until they both break in. Not one person mentioned this 🤷‍♂️. I bought a brand new Stihl 261 “Non Mtronic” saw with 20” bar, installed a hour meter+rpm gauge. I was not impressed with its performance. It Bogged super easy, stalled with little to no pressure. I swapped to a 32:1 mix ratio, installed a full chisel chain, I re-tuned the high/low jets on the saw to perfection. Did a bunch of heat cycles on my saw and running to allow break-in. After 2 hours of use on the hour meter, it’s finally impressing me. Feels like a demon race saw now lol. I went from not thinking 261 was enough saw, to wondering why it so powerful and sounds like the gates of hell while the bar is buried in wood. These saws really open up after break-in, it’s a real thing!!! Keep running the saws. They both will turn in to amazing machines.

  • @tools6106
    @tools6106 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I own a MS661 and I cut regularly with a 36” bar and chain. I think mine after broke in would hang with those saws out of the box! I think they suffer from just being too tight. Cut 5 cords of wood and do the same challenge, then you’ll see the true measure of the saw! My opinion, and it’s only worth 1/2 cent,,, I am old!

    • @edwardrook8146
      @edwardrook8146 ปีที่แล้ว

      These saws are basically torque monsters for running longer bars in the 3-6 ft range. They aren't faster just like the 661 is actually slower than a ms261 when you're cutting smaller wood.

    • @tools6106
      @tools6106 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edwardrook8146 I think I would accept that challenge, inch for inch, no problem! My saw turns 10,000 rpm with very aggressive square cut 10* chains on a 28” for my small bar and 64” long for ripping slabs!

    32" Bar vs 36" bar gives the Husqvarna an edge to start with in power. Less bar = More Power and Vice Versa, not an even test. P.S. I own a 395xp and an echo CS-590 so im not a stihl guy but just saying, definitely not an even test.

    o machado e a motosserra (The Axe And The Chainsaw)
    eli silva & zé goiano
    composição: moacir dos santos / zé goiano
    o machado e a motosserra tiveram uma discussão
    motosserra diz que é orgulho da evolução
    machado pra mim já era pois vem do tempo de adão
    você agora só serve pra fazer calo na mão motosserra dá um ronco relou o dente no tronco já se vê o pau no chão
    a serra chamou o machado pra fazer uma porfia
    machado aceitou na hora e quando chegou o dia
    entraram junto no mato pra mostrar a serventia
    a motosserra roncava machado velho tinia
    e naquele matagal foi só cavaco de pau pó de serra que subia
    e esse grande duelo deste jeito é que termina
    na briga das ferramentas o machado é que domina
    motosserra parou cedo ali no tronco da quina
    machado seguiu cortando mata grossa e mata fina
    motosserra impotente rebentou sua corrente acabou a gasolina
    que isto sirva de exemplo para toda humanidade
    e você que é tão jovem tem que saber a verdade
    respeite bem os mais velhos não brinque com sua idade
    uma pessoa idosa também tem utilidade
    é um diamante valioso se não tivesse o idoso não teria mocidade
