I tore my LisFranc ligament in 2017 playing soccer. I’d never heard of a Lis or a Franc, but as soon as it happens you know something’s wrong right away.
Went to orthopedic surgeon next morning. Before he sent me for CT, he touched it. When I said “oooouucch”, he responded with “oh, I know what THIS is”…..
Cast and crutches. Then boot and crutches. 5 months later I was walking without crutches or a boot. Within 10 months I was able to jog again. Took almost 22 months for a full recovery but I can tell you, once this tears, you’re never the same. I’m still afraid to pivot on it.

In college, during a basketball game, I had torn ligaments in my ankle. I had severe swelling, but I was back on the court within the month. I remember the team doctor telling me luckily I'm not tall and skinny because usually, those type of players could have a history of lower body injuries.

I have been a huge fan of Chet since he was a teenager. I closely followed his career through high-school, which is something I never do. I was really hoping he would end up in a Spurs uniform, but I'm still a fan of his. I have always worried about lower-leg and foot injuries with him because of his narrow frame. If I remember correctly, foot problems shortened the careers of Yao Ming and Greg Oden. I hope Chet gets well soon. I think he has tremendous potential, and I have been rooting for him for a long time. Thanks for the insight, doc!

In high school i had a lisfranc injury and they are no joke. We were playing capture the flag and i went in for a slide but one of my friends ran in front of me. My foot bent like the letter “c”. At first i didn’t think it was serious and still went on to take a bio test next period and after that class when it was time to go home i could barely walk to my moms car i thankfully only had a sprain. It still had a really long recovery though. Had a boot for about 8 weeks but in total it took me 8 months for my foot to feel back to normal. When i would walk it would feel fine but the next day my foot would be really sore. Looking back i don’t think i took weight bearing X-rays and there might have been more than a sprain if it took that long. 🤔

Great question! Yes, the X-ray only shows bones, but remember the ligaments hold the bones together. So if the ligament is torn, the bones won’t be held together and you can see that widening between the bones on the X-ray.

I think doc was right when he said it looked like his shoe slipped just a bit and then gripped up unexpectedly. I could certainly see that resulting in an injury

Am I the only one that saw two other connections before he deleted them and said “there are no other connections between the two metacarpals”…what do those other ligaments do?

It's not the slippery court, it's just that awkward lateral movement because he absorbed LBJ's force from an awkward position so he was forces to push to the left using his right foot to follow LBJ to the right. weird. I know that Chet's frame is probably too vulnerable to this kind of injuries but never thought that it will be this early.
