Not all heroes wear capes! My 86 year old dad was telling me at dinner one night how his Pt Cruiser hatch wasn't opening. I tried it, thinking maybe he wasn't doing something right with his age and all. I got it open by taking it apart like you did but after that, I had no clue what was wrong. He took it to local garage and they told him it would be in upwards of $400 and he's better off going to junk yard to get whole new hatch. He told me this, so I decided to check TH-cam. You, my friend, saved us! I bought the momentary switch on Amazon, 2 for 8.99. I just got done installing it exactly how you did it and it works GREAT! Thank you for this. My dad is elated!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIP. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THANKS TO YOUR ADVICE. MY HUSBAND AND I GOT IT TO WORK. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I HATED NOT BEING ABLE TO.OPEN THE HATCH. GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR TUTORIAL. AND YOUR HELP! FOREVER GRATEFUL!

This is exactly what i did to mine except i use a flat surface momentary switch waterproof. These manufactures build crap for consumers. I also installed a switch inside front dash for easy access from within You are awesome brother great job
Thanks for fixing the hatch because the manufacturer no longer offers the part and auto repair said it was not possible to fix it. But they didn't know you would find a way to make it work! Thanks ROBGUY😁
You saved my life I just bought 2 hours ago a 2009 PT. The guy didn’t disclosed that the back did not open. I already had signed the as-is contract. You saved my life! Thank you!
We have a 2008 PT Cruiser with a non-working switch under the emblem. However, there is a key operated lock which an owner can turn. Lifting the latch opens the hatch.
Freaking excellent video. My 2005 has at least a faulty switch and I scavenged a few from salvage yards. But one of the problems to replace the OEM switch would be the destruction of the emblem -- they are installed with one-time use fasteners. Yet the switch that Chrysler used is prone to failure. My favorite PT Cruiser forum group is no longer online and I couldn't find the workaround switch process. Your video will help me get my liftgate fully functional once more. Thank you.
Do you think the 06 and up hatch handles would fit in the First gen PT Cruisers? thinking about retro fitting the electric ones in mine, My handle has been broken for a while now. The bone yard is full of Pts with broken ones also
RobGuy, thanks for the video and easy fix. Sub'd. Had all the parts on hand, cut the plug off and was able to solder all connections instead and take the new switch and plug out and install.
Just a note to anyone having this problem… I got all the way to installing the new switch and noticed that the old switch was working now … lol. So whatever happened in the process of installing the new switch made it work just fine now … I’m going to definitely OPS Check it a few times before putting the panels back on because “Testing is the key”
I'm not to sure. question does 2005 and older have an electric actuator to open that back door your workin on. Mine opens on it's own so it must then the battery wears all the way down, must be from a doom light. my wife says she didn't touch the rear door and I didn't. maybe there's some switch were hitting in the interior
I have a 2005 and this will work for when the hatch keeps opening. Oh was that annoying My car has keyed entry and electric actuator. Thanks Robguy you are a saint.
Thank you i have the same problem and the part with the emblem was hard to get and expensive (also it is both screwed AND siliconed to the car so hard to change it!) .
I would start with a fuel pressure test, and then put it on a good scanner to see what the oxygen sensors and fuel trims are, that should tell you a lot
the wire strippers and heat shrink tubing I got at harbor freight, the test light was from Napa or Harbor Freight, the T pins are from walmart in the sewing section, and the switch was from autozone

Awesome, hope it helps, this was my dad's car and I checked it last week and it's still functioning great with the switch I installed
Thank you so much. I followed your example and my PT Cruiser hatch now works great.
awesome, glad it helped

I really don't know, maybe buy a cheap one off of eBay and see if it fits I guess

absolutely, testing is key, that's how I found a bad switch and not a bad expensive motor
I'm not to sure. question does 2005 and older have an electric actuator to open

I'm not sure, I can check a wiring diagram and get back to you
it looks like 01-04 PT Cruisers only had a latch and not an electric motor

@@robguysgarage5422 With your instructions it was a 5 mn job and saved me about 200 € so yes, it REALLY did help me !
@@lamagiedubouddha7432 Awesome, glad it helped!
Are you able to tell me why my cruiser keeps stalling. 2006 non turbo stalls when i stop at a light. No lights on dash

I have a 2008 PT and the tailgate does not open on it's own any more. :( How do you fix it so it is hands free again?
The rest struts need to be replaced that hold the tailgate up
Where can I find the tools used?

Very good solution....I did the same....thanks
