  • Some Scottish BR action now from June 1994. We start at Perth with a shot of 37 430 arriving with an Inverness to Edinburgh train, which i took to its destination. At Edinburgh we see more of the 37 plus an 86 on an Inter-City cross country working along with an ex NSE class 305 EMU. We finish at Glasgow Central with a 90 on an Up road Inter-City to Euston, a class 156 Super-Sprinter DMU and a couple of class 303 Glasgow 'Blue Trains' now in Strathclyde orange. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

Much rather have a 37 hauling Mk2s than the 2 car 158 I’m currently on from Inverness to Edinburgh 😂

The 37 at Perth could have been on the 11.00 off Glasgow Queen Street. This train stopped at Stirling only and terminated at Perth. I did it when a week after the 27 came off diagram. The driver was unfamiliar with the fact the 'new' 37/4s were fitted with an engine overspeed cut off. He applied some welly up the 1 in 45 Cowlairs Incline and stalled her three times, having to do an engine restart three times. My mate was a 37 basher. I told him the 27 would have got to Stirling by now !
The 308 was working to North Berwick.
The 37 at Edinburgh might have been working the 13.21 to Inverness as this was a regular 37 turn.
I never got to ride a 303. Too busy chasing locos.
    Nice video, Soi.

Thank you.... there wasn't a loco hauled off Queen Street High Level by this time although there was a summer only working from Oban to the Low Level which arrived around lunch time. It departed back again around an hour os so later..... See it here th-cam.com/video/2z5TwAe-_I4/w-d-xo.html

Coincidence, the class 37 is called Cwmbran, not far from where I live now, and Perth isn't far from where I'm going to live in the early summer.

A pity the classic traction has diminished but you will have Highland HST's!.......

'Strathclyde Red' was the official paint colour so as not to upset either side of the religious divide in Glasgow.

So class 37's were hauling passenger trains in Scotland until privatization?

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus

They were still used in the summer of 1994 but after that only on the Fort William Sleepers.......

Obviously there were 3 x 37s on the Kyle of Lochalsh diagrams, 3 x 37s on the Wick diagrams, 1 x 37 as the Thurso Branch Engine, 3 x 37s on the Fort William, 3 x 37 on the Oban, 2 x 37 on the Mallaig. Plus Inverness to Aberdeen used to drop a 37. The midday train from Edinburgh to Inverness was often a regular 37 turn. Only 17 per day !
But you also had 27s (and 26s) on the hourly semi fast Edinburgh to Dundee. The fast Glasgow Queen Street to Perth was a 27, but became a 37 (first stop Stirling). The Stranraer Harbour Boat Train (21.15 ex London Euston) could drop anything. Booked a 27 piloting a 47, on the night I did it she was a 20 piloting a 47 from Ayr. 47s Edinburgh to Carstairs. 47s from Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street every 15 minutes in the rush hour and every 30 minutes off peak. 47s to Aberdeen and Inverness.
