    Working on a cradled panel with a harmonious palette. Abstracted landforms seem to develop as I add more layers to the surface!

    You make it look so easy, Lisa! I know it is not. These videos are a great way to amplify the 2 workshops I took with you in Virginia this year. I would love it if you could talk about lighting in your studio sometime. Thanks for all you give your followers!

    I love watching your videos. I started working with both encaustic and cold wax few weeks ago and I am hooked. I keep coming back to your videos because you don't speak as much as some of the other artists and I learn by watching you do and re-do. I also love your color choices.

    Delightful! Thank you for your note about wearing gloves. Some pigments are toxic. Good to use paint, wax, and solvents with good ventilation too. Thank you for emphasizing safety.

    It's morphed into a really nice and eye pleasing landscape that I could live with the rest of my life! Tried to keep upmto see if you used all the mixed colors on this one that you had laid out.....they are my favorite colors so will be attempting to follow your example soon.... Thanks for videoing this! 🤗

      Carolyn, Thank you very much!, So happy you enjoyed this video! I didn't use all the colors I mixed but I did use a lot of them! It was a beautiiful color palette! The color/paint I didn't use in this video -I used in my work in the studio-which wasn't on film! I cannot let paint go to waste, it is too expensive, and I enjoy painting far too much! Haha!! Hope you will try this palette!

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much! I paint very intuitively and I allow the painting to develop to a point where I feel there isn’t anymore I can do to make it better. Then I know it is time to stop and live with it for awhile! Sometimes it is finished and sometimes I will go back and paint t more!

    Hi LIsa, Love your demos. Could you talk a bit about how you choose your colors on any given day?

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi!! Thanks for watching my channel! I truly live to paint and I enjoy color! My favorite palette is a warm, earthy palette with touches of cools. So on a lot of days I just put out color I love! It makes me happy! Other days I work in a harmonious palette- TH-cam videos on that as well- which I also enjoy! Just depends on the mood of the day!😁🎨

    Was that tissue paper or wax paper you used?
    Also, how long for it to dry before you work on future layers?
    Thanks!!!

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Stephen, thank you for watching! I used tissue paper. It is according to what you want to do in the next layers as to how long it needs to “dry” or “ set up”. For some techniques the painting needs to be semi dry or tacky- but for certain other techniques -it may need to be dry especially for last minute mark making. Typically it starts setting up in a few hours, and dries completely within about 2 weeks.

    Hey Lisa - is this dark all from your blacks that you're using, or are you bringing in some Asphaltum as well? Thanks!

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Micki, the panel had a layer of asphaltum as a base but then I used the harmonious palette mixes which had several blacks but mixed with the other colors. Thanks so much for watching!!❤️

    Hi Lisa, your art is fabulous as always. I would like to know about the galkyd gel please, when would you use it and would you mix it with oil paint and cold wax all together, if yes in what proportions. Thank you so much for clarifying.

    • @abdelfettas6089
      @abdelfettas6089 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ...?

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tha Galkyd Gel is a product made by Gamblin, It is also called "G-Gel" - Made from alkyd resin, Galkyd Gel is a colorless oil color additive that accelerates the drying rate of oil colors and enables artists to create thick transparent paintings with a moderate sheen. By adding a small amount they say it can add flexibility to oil/cold wax for painting on stretched canvas.However, I do not do this so I cannot say it works r doesn't work in this way.

    Do you mine if I ask what you sprayed on there with your spray bottle? Paint thinner of some kind? Mineral spirits?

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I use Gamblin’s Gamsol odorless mineral spirits. A fun technique to play with!! Thanks!!🎨

    I just love this piece and your harmonious palette. The gamsol you are spraying, is that a gamsol solvent or something else that gamsol makes? Did you go back and do more with the painting? Loved the painting and loved the process!! Thanks for sharing with us.

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vicki, thank you very much!! I use gamsol, made by Gamblin, in a spray bottle. This is the finished painting, one of those that just comes together in a short time! I love it when that happens! Thanks for tuning in!

    Did you use.any cold wax on the painting? Or just oils?

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  ปีที่แล้ว

      Coni, I mix all colors of oil paint with a 50:50 ratio of cold wax medium. So my entire palette has been premixed with the cold wax!

  • @XJ1042
    @XJ1042 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lisa, are you using plain cold wax, or cold wax with an additive, like GALKYD GEL?

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Judith, I am using plain cold wax in this video. I do sometimes add Galkyd Gel, it makes the paint/wax dry a little quicker and increases the transparency. Some say it also helps the paint/wax be more flexible. So many things to try!!

    How long in between layers? If I stopped 3 hours can I go back and start adding layers?
