In this video, I talk about driving a car with traction control. I specifically address whether it is better to drive with traction control on or off. This has been a long standing debate, and many people stand on both sides of the argument. So I made this video to clear it all up and tell you about the situations in which it is better to drive with traction control engaged, and another very specific situation in which you might consider turning it off.

Been driving for close to 60 years and during that time, I have driven in some of the most treacherous winter conditions imaginable, all without traction control. To me, traction control is nothing but a crutch for those who wont take the time or don't really want to learn how to drive in adverse conditions. So the first thing I do whenever driving in snowy conditions is to turn off the traction control and trust my driving skills.

I won't ever buy a car that does not have the traction control off button in it. I had one and I was always stuck in the mud and snow. Ever since then with my newer cars, the first thing I do when I get in EVERY TIME is shut off the traction control.

You said almost all people need to keep traction control on. Well, I live in the south and I'm part of that almost all of us, but I don't have to worry about snow and other things on the road.
Everyone doesn't live up north where you have nasty weather a lot of the year. I drive safely and don't use traction control.

What if I am driving on a clean road with no rain or mud or whatsoever? Then, should I still keep the TC on?
And what if I am driving on the clean road and it starts raining then should I turn TC on or it won't make difference as normal raining is a normal thing for a vehicle and don't need TC for it?
TC is only when you go through the muddy, slippery, or snow road?

if u have good throttle control, sure turn it off. But 99% of drivers have terrible throttle control. So even if you think you have good throttle control, your probably bad.

I would leave it on going thru slippery roads, I would turn it off if your stuck stationary, I would leave it on driving regularly on roads, freeway.

More lose and in control of the car, but does cost me tyres 🥵 fun at a cost
But if your normal and not crazy then TC ON
regular cars always have TC ON, then you would actually turn the TC OFF yourself

So what are the stats of trac control acually preventing accidents? I have driven cars for many years in rain and slick roads WITHOUT trac control. I have cars with trac control. Honestly I cannot tell the difference. I have owned cars with awd. Still hydro plane and got stuck in snow. Just another automaker gimmick. Insurance rates are still going up and car accidents are higher than ever. Pumping the brakes is good and slamming the brakes is bad. Simple.

This really depends, i say if you have a background in simracing without TC with many different vehicles and in a realistic simracing title like ACC or iRacing, or race IRL with no TC. You can turn it off, cuz you definitely have the throttle control to drive without TC. But since 99% of people have terrible pedal control, if you don’t have any simracing or racing background without TC, leave it on.
