Excellent summary of key variables. Bravo. Short game is the scoring game. No doubt. Especially as you get older and swing speed slows down. Best overall summary of short game considerations I have listened to on UTube. Bravo! As a senior playing better every year... I just need to keep my long game on the fairway and score within 120 yards with confidence. The right choice of wedges and how to use them is critical! Yes.... putting well helps a lot!
new to me MY IRONS are 710 AP2 I have the PW with the set (47 degrees), titlest vokey MP6 50, 54, 58. I have a chrome wedge I prefer the mat grey or the old oil can but they didn't have those second hand in the shop I just got them.
Loving these top ten points videos,I got fitted for my wedges last year and what a huge difference it made I use the same brand of wedges only because I want my wedges to feel the same it gives me confidence
Great vid James. Excellent emphasis on the uniqueness of a golfer, to buy wedges fit for him/her, it's a very important topic that i think is too often left out. Thanks again for the helpful tips.
48, 52, 60. The 48* wedge is the only one I use for full shots. I use the 60* for bunker shots and other short pitches. I use the 52 * wedge for 50 to 60 yard pitches and chipping. I also have a 58* wedge that I use if I’m playing a course with deep, soft sand. If I use that one I drop the 60.
I carry a stock PW, GW and a Cleveland 56. I do not carry a Lob wedge. Never needed one, if i need the flop shot my 56 does that very well. I opted to not carry a lob since I carry a 2 and 3 iron. My bag is Driver, 3 wood, 2-GW, sand wedge and putter.
Great video James!!!! Love how you upload content everyday!!! I personally like 56* with low bounce at 9* and 52* with standard bounce at 9* and I use TaylorMade Milled Grind Wedges
I have a pw at 46 vokey at 50, 54 and 60 and experimenting with a taylormade high toe 64. I’m not a great wedge player or someone that finds it easy to take something off a shot so the more options I have to hit full shots the better.

@James Robinson Golf I am going for a fitting next weekend. I've never used any wedges that didn't come with the standard set. What should I be looking for? I've got a ping knock off 1980s sand wedge that I have always used from the bunker. I'd like to replace that. How do I get fit for that when there isn't a bunker to try it out? Any other tips would be amazing. Love the channel!!
My set of wedges are vokey sm6,, a 50,54 and 58, I had a full bag fitting at titleist 2 years ago now.. a 917 driver an 3 wood.. a 19 an 23 degree 816 hybrids an then 5 to pw in the 716 ap2 range.. do love titleist👍🏻🏌🏼♂️⛳️
I've got Callaway MD Forged 2*flat +1/2" @D4 but had to have the stock 52,56 bent weaker so I could have 50,54,60. Upgraded to Nippon Pro Modus Wedge 125. I'm a lefty so options are limited and shaft upgrade is free. I've used mixed sets in the past but finally found a set that works for me. I switch in a MD2 56* when it's wet or bunkers have fluffy sand. As it has more bounce and sole width with a custom ground camber for trailing relief.
Hi James. I carry 4 wedges. all Ping, i200 wedge and U wedge, Glide 2.0 54 and 58. gaping is 12 yards on full shots. Perfect for me. Great video again.
Great tip video and I love how much emphasis you put on these choices being extremely personal to each golfer. There simply aren’t many one size fits all, blanket rules when it comes to buying the “right” golf gear. I personally use 3 wedges; Mizuno MP18-sc PW from my set, 52 & 58 degree Mack Daddy forged. I did get fit for my wedges when I got fit for my irons. That 58 is my absolute security blanket. Friggin love the thing.
I play 46,52,58. A lot of people have told me I should gap them better and play 4 wedges, but to me an extra wedge would just add to my second guessing of which wedge to use. I have played a lot of different manufacturers but seem to really like my Cleveland wedges a lot. But because of the price of clubs these days I may go with an off brand wedge when it’s time for new ones. Something like gigagolf or Hireko
James, good video. I'm getting fitted for 3 wedges tonight (Ping Stealth 2.0) plus gapping from my pitching wedge. I have already tried 4 different manufacturers on course and range. Hopefully, your questions will keep me in good stead for tonight! Looking forward to it.
Hi James. I'm new to your channel 😋 I care carry a pitching wedge and A-wedge from my Nike VR Pro cavity irons. Also a VR Pro 56° 14° bounce, with a 60° Bazooka Jmax carbon steel wedge. I'm not entirely sure about "bounce".... Does this help get the ball up on the air ??? Thank you James..
Cleveland RTX 3. 50, 56 and 60. Picked them because they were cheaper. The 56 and 60 are raw and the 50 is black. All the clubs are 1 inch longer than standard.
Great video - I like how one of your tips wasn't grooves, as they are all on the limit of what RandA and USGA will allow. For me physical fit, lofts for gapping, bounce and grind are they key pointers
Great content, and you’re right, cannot get the ball out of the bunkers in the wet weather with my sand wedge which came with my irons 🤔 ok in the summer 🤔
Hey James, another great video. I'm currently getting back into the game after a lengthy lay-off. Being a 'leftie' I find availability a restriction to choice, which is why my previous Titleist set also included PW, GW, SW & LW. I've just bought some G410 irons and have a 'gapping' session booked for this week, let's see what's suggested!!Cheers Bob
James Robinson Golf There playing there 3rd season right now...i play around 40.games per season....i cant see the small pattern on the wedge but the grooves are still deptf.....do you think i should trade next season?
Love your "Devil's Advocate" questions...should be part of every purchase decision, I have been dealing with this wedge-type this summer. I am thinking of dropping my 5-wood and putting in a 64 wedge in the bag and change my 56 from 8 to 12 bounce since some of the sand is still "fine".. Fairways and some greens so firm and roll from my 4 hybrid.makes up the 5wood difference..need a club tor an smoother tempo. WTH, now I need a "seasonal" set....higher bounce in winter-spring. Hello Visa credit card!
Hi James. I currently use Callaway Big Bertha 08 irons, I get on with them great and I am in no real rush to change them. They only issue is they don't have a lob wedge. Can you recommend an over sized 60 degree wedge for me to try out?
Have King Cobra F8 PW, Hogan TK 48 degree, 54 degree, 58 degree. You have to like the look of the wedges and insure that you get the right loft for the distance areas you have wholes in for full shots.
I’ve got a 46 degree PW, 50* Gap, 54* SW and 60* Lob. All Ping. I’d rather have options from 120 yards in than 200 out. Another tip, I like to have the same model wedges with different finishes. Not that it’s a big problem but I know when I’m looking at the black finish, it’s my 54 and the satin finish is my 60". You’ll never grab the wrong wedge on accident and it gives them a little personality too.
Was at 45* PW, 52* GW, 56* SW, but the gap between PW and GW was enormous. Had the GW bent to 50* - closed the gap some. When I miss on the full swings with the 50/56, it is right - would be a possible indicator of needing lie adjusted more upright?
I have only pitching wedge 52 and 56, it's enough to get me around the course. I am a member of a golf society in Spain and we play seven different courses throughout the year and a home course every two weekp
Hi James, I live in Almeria southeast Spain. Not as many golf courses here as there are in the costa del sol or costa blanca. I have four courses on the doorstep and they are all worth playing, with the best two in my opinion are Desert Springs and Aguilon which would be a test for a player such as yourself.
Nic Ted funny you should say Nic, my parents live on Desert Springs and I have played both numerous times! Tha black tees at Aguilon are insanity !!! Haha
Well James, so you have played probably the two best courses in Almeria. I never played from the back tees at Aguilon with my golf society and this is our home course. when you visit to your parents agin play Valle de Este another good course. You might already have played it no se.
3 wedges (playing off 18) pw part of the Iron set, then a 50* Cleveland TA, lovely club, and a vokey 56* 10, M grind which is my magic wand. Can't play a 60 to save my life.
GET FITTED!!! Sorry...I was screaming that at the screen at the beginning of the video AND when you asked...lol All great questions and a great video James, thanks! This is where I am currently researching my game, as I get back into playing (and yes I got fitted for them). I bought the iron set, drivers and just grabbed an Anser-type putter (not fitted) that was cheap (actually the fitter threw it in for free, it was only listed at $10!) and I bought a 60 degree lob from Globalgolf.com (not fitted, and a great website!!) Now that I have clubs to get around the round...say that three times fast....I can focus on consistency, distances, feeling (of the clubs, not emotionally...well, now that I think about it...), etc "Gapping" wasn't a thing when I started playing in high school in the late '80s. You had your woods, irons, PW and maybe a wedge or two...at the most! It makes sense to get this part of the game dialed in more than any other to me, for all the reasons you mentioned. I would bet 25% (or more!) of your scoring can be lowered within 50 yards of the green. Again, great stuff James!!
P750 PW, Taylormade EF Spin 50 & 55, Taylormade HiToe 60, and a Cleveland 588 64 Forged Wedge. I have Driver, 3 wood, Srixon U45 19 then right to 5-7 irons Taylormade P790 as they are looooong, Taylormade P770 in 8 & 9 iron. That’s my bag 😁 made wedges into Low Bounce as Arizona has Hard Greens so definitely want stoppage.

I carry PW (46degrees) GW (50degrees) SW (54degrees) LW (58degrees) Cleveland RTX3 . James !
Can’t argue with those numbers Aaron!
great as normally, got a ?for you just joined a club don't have a handicap at the moment, how do I score when playing other players?
As in Stableford or medal? Or as in scoring better?
You should do a what's in the bag
Thinking about it but got some big things coming up with different manufacturers so there’s scope for big change!!!
588's, Rifle Spinners, 3 of them...bent, ground and stamped to my preferences.
60° is sat in my spare bag...ousted by an Adams Tight Lies Strong Five.
1) is it a vokey
2) get fitted for them
Currently have 4 vokey wedges in the bag
😂😂....I see what you mean by the numbering on the wedge video.
I have PW, 50°, 54° & 60°.... Got the Mizuno T7 forged wedges. They feel really nice.
Knew you’d like it Chris! Haha

Shame Simon! Maybe some time on the short game area required?!
4 wedges including my PW part or my iron set
48, 52, 56 & 60. Callaway and vokey
52 56 60 snake eyes. They getting old but barely ever play 18. Just time and money to get to the range.
That’s a shame Oliver !
How does the average joe get properly fitted for wedges ? As on some carpet grass and a launch monitor is not ideal for wedges.
A lot is based around trial and error with feel, looks and performance. How does the wedge perform through the grass and sand
