Baylan stood on what appears to be a stone carving the Father, as you can see the Son to his left and, presumably, the Daughter to his right with most of her head missing.
Yeah, I’m amazed Alan didn’t notice it or comment on the Son being present. The torso, a bit of hair, and the flowing sleeves of a gown are all visible.
The wife and I immediately realized it was the Father and Son with chunks of the Daughter. We freaked out. Peridia must be the original planet where the witches worshipped 'The Ones' and the Servant became The Mother, then Aboleth. So pops and the kids skedaddled on out of there to Mortis. The architecture of the temple on Mortis is reminiscent of the temple on Peridia.
Ezra continuing to wear the night trooper armor way beyond the point where it's needed will haunt my thoughts for a long time. Dave really needed that unmasked reveal between Hera and Ezra.
I like to think Ezra would do something like wear the armor the entire trip or get back into it before walking off the shuttle just for fun of shocking hara a little bit more than she'll already be
Stormtrooper armor is resistant to space, and maybe that shuttle was defective and so Ezra may have beeen using it as a makeshift space suit in the event of a hull breach. If he toook off the armor, he would have been trusting imperial maintenance protocols over a 10 year period while they were stranded.
Thrawn doesn't want to risk losing a lot of resources at once, especially since he really only needs them to buy time. Since the moment he found out Ahsoka was trained by Anakin, he's been intentionally overestimating her, rather than run the risk of accidentally underestimating her, the way he did Ezra.
how many languages do you speak? in word and text. Always hate this from above correcting. You could have phrased that polite. you know what he ment so whats the problem? @@hereef1
Exactly! Thrawn knew exactly how many of his forces he needed to commit to slow Ahsoka & company down. He wasn't trying to kill them, he was just buying enough time for the Chimaera to get out of there, and it looks like he succeeded.
I loved how proud Thrawn looked in having "defeated" Anakins apprentice only to now be in a galaxy with Anakins kids. He got rid of one in the first galaxy only to have to go up against two in the new🤣 hes going to be SO irritated & have raw temples from rubbing them so much after all the headaches they're gonna give him.
mind you, leia never met anakin, and luke met him for but a few seconds and they had no family or mentor relationship, they dont know anakin like ahsoka does
Thing is Thrawn would wipe the floor with them, Luke is a Jedi through and through but has zero experience in military leadership outside of a few "spec ops" style engagements where he'd go off on his own anyway. Leia is a politician but even then not a very good one it seems, she never seemed much of a leader just a figure of hope. Fortunately for the New Republic plot armour is all they need it seems😂
@@upisntdownsilly very true but that doesn't change that they're still his kids & in the novels, they still become a major thorn in his side. Random thing I just remembered, GL(or DF) said that Leia is just like Anakin with his fiery passionate personality & Luke is just like Padme with her strong willed, loving one. He said due to this, Luke was the only one who truly could bring Vader back to the light since he'd remind him of Padme.
@@shranos2112how was he utterly wasted? Sure they probably won’t be able to give Baylan a meaningful end but it’s also hard to plan for the actor dying IRL
Screw that! I want Senator Xiono to get his own series covering his day-to-day life as a senator of the New Republic and all the bureaucratic and political problems he has to deal with. Edit: Including saving his wayward smuggler nephew Ahlan from his latest failed scheme.
The way they're honoring Kanan Jarrus was very nice. They're respectful of Freddie not wanting to come back, so this is their work around. Ezra using the same piece Kanan did to activate his saber is sweet. Anakin showing up at the end to keep an eye on his former Padawan was also nice. I think overall yeah it did go how we'd think. But that's not always bad.
@@matheusfernandes2102 More like: not "knowledgeable" enough about how to retain his presence in the Living Force after physical death, so instead his quiddity became part of the Cosmic Force. Agreed, though, he played his part in the threads of fate and The Force.
Anakin appearing was especially nice, because it basically confirms that what Ahsoka encountered in the world between worlds was actually his force ghost and not just a vision.
With Season 2, Baylan Skoll will have to be recast after Ray Stevenson passed away. Perhaps his contact with Abeloth had completely changed his appearance after encountering the corrupted Mother.
If they can justify keeping him out of the story they could make his story into a cartoon format… and then having the character pass or moved on by the story if they decide to bring in abeloth live action.
I love how much Allen got spot on in this episode He talked about how anakin always had ahsoka's back and then she said it herself He talked about how Ahsoka was a ronin and then Thawn literally called her that. He talked about the red ribbons on the night troopers being protective charms and they were described as such The statue ballen is standing on really looks like the father and I think his prediction on what Ballen will find will end up being correct too.
And the ribbons were never claimed to be as such lol. They didn't say "wear these ribbons for protection." They just said that those few troopers who volunteered, would be blessed/cursed with the magicks of the mothers to be protected in battle/be made undying. The ribbons have nothing to do with it. Just a spell from the motbers
@@Fuzzmo147 because the mother (Abeloth) does not call to her, she calls to the one who wishes himself to take the mantle of the father. Did the “something more” Baylon trained Shin to be.. he wished to be the daughter? But upon his realisation of Ahsoka’s ‘re-birth’, he has sensed this was no longer possible as she is tied to the spirit of the Morai, meaning she is already a force god.
Yep. Unlike this show which has things happening and characters following along a plot, people in Andor drive the plot forward themselves. Things happen for reasons built up in the world and characters, not because the script said so.
In Rebels, when Kanan pressed Sabine to get her to use the Darksaber with full emotion, she jumped down a sort of ampitheater structure. It defied gravity. She cleared over 30 feet horizontal and about 20 vertical and landed without pain. There's a certain amount of comic book physics in Star Wars, but they try to differentiate between what regular people can do and what Force-users do. She was blocked, not incapable.
i am so glad when people point out how insane Sabine's ability to jump is rebels is!!! there are actually quite a few instances where she replicates jumps like that. jumps that really normal people shouldn't be able to make without at the very least a running jump and jet pack but sabine just does them from a standing rest position.
@@stevena.7022 its why i have always allowed a pass on her jumping when pointing out her unique abilites. that said, it does appear to be something unique to her and the force sensitives of the show. i can't recall hera making those kinds of jumps or any of their human or human-like allies who fight with them.
From a stretegic standpoint Thrawn only sending small groups one at a time makes a lot of sense. Hes weighing his options, his PRIMARY objective is to get back to Dathomir, not to kill the Jedi. If he sends his full force at once theres a higher chance of failing the primary objective rather than just sacrificing some units in order to delay them and guarantee he fufills his primary objective. He knows the Jedi would likely defeat even a full force assault, which would leave no other options for him to employ after that fact.
At the end of the show it's clearly the father, with the son on his right. And the daughter on his left (though her head is missing, referencing her death ig)
They all died. The son stabbed the father after stabbing the daughter who jumped in front of the father when the son first tried to stab him. Anakin then stabbed both, Father & Son, while the father & son were embracing after the Father told him to. The Daughter is the only one whose life essence was transferred.
1:58 Thrawn's main objective is to leave this galaxy. He said it in previous episodes. The two fighters were deployed to slow down Ahoka & co., not necessarily to kill them. "It worked, didn't it? Didn't it?"
They where literally going at a snails pass before the tie fighter attack. (They where keeping up with the snailpeople) If anything Trawn sped them up.
The problem is the show portrays Thrawn as being "smart" without actually making his decisions very smart. Definitely closer to Rebels Thrawn than Zahn Thrawn. Still love Lars' performance though
I actually enjoyed how they've done Thrawn, for the most part. Remember, by the timeline in-universe he's an old man at this point. And he's been in exile for a decade, with only 3 batshit-crazy witches for company. Sure, he gets visibly annoyed as our heroes clear hurdle after hurdle, but ultimately the guy doesn't lose his cool. He may be a little rusty, but he's still got this. He even manages to gloat a bit before he f*cks off victorious, like he might have done in his prime (sorry Allen, but Thrawn's never been above a bit of boasting once succsess has been secured!). The NR is gonna have a headache with this dude for sure.
@@dancingvalkyrieThx for the salt, I'll put it to good use. And yea, some people DO in fact get a bit smooth-brained in old age. Look no further than the US Gov't to see that this is true.
@@andyb1653To be fair, the writing is very basic, which is only one step up from being overtly bad. That combined with the very poor pacing means I can only be glad that they didn’t actively make Ahsoka worse, but just failed to enhance her in any way🤷♂️.
Thrawn is just coping, he just claims that he actually wanted to lose the whole time when his dumb decisions accomplish nothing, dave can't write star wars
For the Kanan/Caleb thing, I think that even when he stopped hiding, everyone knew him as Kanan. Also, Kanan did seem to hint that Sabine was force sensitive during Rebels to Ezra while teaching her to fight with a lightsaber.
I'm sure a lot of information was delivered off screen for the sake of time, Kanan would tell Ahsoka who probably relayed a lot of information to Hu Yang, but they didn't want to waste time showing stuff we should just accept as being known. Just as Baylon probably did his own homework or borrowed the inquisitor database that Morgan seemed to have access to. So the fact that Sabine was never expressly said to have force power is likely the problem although the fact that she didn't almost cut her own leg off with the dark saber is probably a better identifier compared to Din Jarin or even the fact that a complete noob like Finn in the sequels didn't kill himself in the 40 seconds he held a saber since he's also force sensitive.
When it comes to the statues at the end, I'm almost certain Baylon is standing on a statue of the Father, as it appears that a statue of the Son is next to him, and a statue of what I assume is the daughter on the other side. The statue of the Daughter is faceless and disfigured, I would bet that this is in regards to her now being deceased, as well as her owl going to Ahsoka who has the daughter's life force. Plus you have what seems to be a light center screen shooting up from a mountain right before the camera pans to show Baylon. I think the appearance of the Celestials as well as this seeming beam of power (maybe a monolith or something I don't know) further solidifies Abeloths eventually appearance. As for the comment Alan made about thinking these 2 stories should be told through separate shows, I couldn't agree more, having a potential Thrawn spin off come from this where we can watch him accumulate his forces and truly show his overwhelming tactical prowess with a more Andor like theme would be amazing
One of the coolest things about Sabine I’ve noticed is that why she has trouble blocking blasters with her saber but does it perfectly with her arm, predicting those. She used her own danger sense but the Mando way. And by the end, she found her style: dual wielding a saber and blaster which looked cool. I’d also argue we still see Ezra’s darkness. His fighting style and use of the Force was a mixture of Kanan and Maul, his two masters
i love that the show leaned into it like when Ahsoka has her switch from lightsaber to blasters. like thats just who she is as she switches from duel blasters to lightsaber, to saber & blaster.
I always thought the relative short length of the dark saber implied that it was designed to be used in conjunction with a blaster pistol and this was the mando-jedi way.
@@LukiKruki i meant at the temple assualt with ezra. at thefirst they are all deflecting fire with the lightsabers. a mostly defensive action. so Ahsoka tells sabine to switch to blasters while she and ezra continue to deflect shots keeping her safe behind them to go on the offense without having to worry about the fact that she is out in the open rather than trying to fire behind cover. until this point they were pretty much in a stalemate, but after she switched to using her blasters the gained the advantage enough so that ezra and ahsoka were then able to mount their own offensive. i think most people just assume ahsoka tells her to switch weapons because she's not good at lightsabers or because she's better with blasters. but i believe that this was a tactical decision. she asked sabine to switch to her blasters to give them an advantage, one that Sabine is uniquely qualified to give them. later when they get up the stairs she switches back to her lightsaber as it was the best tool for the job of dealing with the nighttrooper trying to get ezra. and her during her fight on the temple after ezra leaves she uses the saber blaster combo the first time we really see this on a show/movie. she (and cal) are probably one of the few people who trained with lightsabers who can truly use this form with skill.
Agreed for Thrawn, yet at same time trying to explain him, maybe Thrawn don't want to sent all forces to not loose them due to some unexpected cirunstances. That's what happend in Rebels finale. He came with hist entire 7th fleet - all of it - and he lost! Espacially in place from which witches want to escape, and there is some strange unkown force. But anyway agreed, I think they should use some more clever way to show tactician mind of Thrawn. It was done good in Rebels, here.... I would not say bad.... but... simply they do not exceed expectations.
IMO what they need is for Zahn to actually be on the project, rather than (presumably) only being consulted once or a few times. It's his character, he should be here for it. But I get it, maybe he's busy, or there's other reasons. But this would really be the best way to bridge this disconnected character gap
Few things I wanted to see in this episode: (1) Thrawn win. (2) Morgan Elsbeth fight (‘cause the actress’ fighting ability.) (3) Sabine finally use the force in an emotional moment. Umm, yeah, this is exactly what they set up for and exactly what I got. 10/10!
Thrawn lost, every plan he did failed, the witches were the one that did most the heavy lifting. He's not brilliant , rather looks like He lost the battle then by luck he got away so he says part of the plan.
I can't help but think when the bandits saw Shin ignite and raise her blade that they were thinking to themselves, "Oh, it's you. Greeeaaat. Sooo glad you made it. How can we help you after we drop everything we are working on to keep you from dismembering us all? Yay!" You notice how the bandits seemed like the sand people and the little shell people seemed like ewok and jawa hybrids?
The scene when anakin as a force ghost appared made me legit cry. The smirk/smile is typical anakin, he looked proud and that he has been on ashoka shoulder the whole time. The scene made me feel like a kid again, all the scenes with anakin did that. No other star wars show has done that. Imo Dave Filoni is the successor for Lucas.
Then I feel sorry for you. For me it helps build up Ahsoka and give more context to an already wide and rich character such as her. Plus bringing Luke back or have any other jedi teach Ahsoka would feel weird and wrong. They both fit each other perfectly, so not just a service to fans. But the only one that should teach her@@justbob333
Thrawn hailing Ashoka came across as an attempt to plant the seeds of doubt as to whether she can avoid Anakin's path. He is all about the long game, after all.
While Sabine's Force push assisted jump maneuver does seem abrupt, coming on the heals of her first real use of telekinesis, I do like that she suggested it, because it was a maneuver that she'd seen Ezra do with his master. It was a good call back in an episode that focused so much on master/apprentice relationships.
Thrawn explained it to Morgan. He doesnt care if Ashoka and the good guys live or die. He just wants to delay them and get out of there, while keeping as much of his existing power intact.
I feel like Thrawn didn't necessarily want to take out the three, or he felt like he wouldn't be able to defeat them and only meant to delay them enough to get away
I have so many thoughts and frustration with this series. While watching the finale I was enjoying parts in the episode. The visuals are really great but there's so many dumb things happening. The things on the top of my head. 1. Sabine not only was able to use the force but she also unlocked the force and was able to force push. "That's not how the force works" comes to mind. Would be more interesting as a character if Sabine never was able to use the force. 2. Speaking of Sabine. It kinda makes sense Ahsoka like nah no big deal. You saved Ezra. I've made mistake and my master stayed with me. Which is true and makes sense for Ahsoka but there should have been something more. Like hey. You made a bad mistake. We will see it thought and fix or some kind of lesson. 3. So does Ezra know that Sabine was the reason that Thrawn is able to return? There's no drama, no anger, for the person that sacrificed everything to keep Thrawn away. I thought maybe Thrawn was going to use that bit of knowledge to weaken the their trust and attack but nothing comes it? Things make no sense. 4. I didn't like Sabine as a character at all in this show and its all on the writing. I could go on way i didn't but I'm tired. 5. Thrawn didn't come off as opposing or a master tactician. 6. I'm sorry. Tie fighters have lock on targets able. Its minor but the fact the tie fighters couldn't hit a none moving target is lazy writing. 7. I know its Disney and they are keeping it PG but the fact light saber are useless against zombie stormtroopers is really immersive breaking. 8.Shin all setup for next season but her joining the bandits comes off weak and lame. Like ok. So what. 9. The series really did a poor job of showing Ashoka character arch. There's one there but its poorly done and very little was define or giving. It never really felt like an Ashoka show which is a problem. 10. The ending was just funny in a bad way. Seeing force Anakin was lame. The better ending would have been to confirm Anakin is the Father. That would have been awesome in my opinion. Because that does change things and had a impact. These are just some of my thoughts. I do hope there's a season two to finished the story. I hope they simply recast Ray Stevens but its a interesting character.
I actually read Thrawn sending such little forces as him believing that, even if he sent everything after them, he still wouldn't be able to beat them or, at best for him, he'd beat them but end up remaining stranded on the planet. So he was sending the minimum forces necessary to both limit the losses he'd take while being able to slow them down enough for them to escape. The gloating at the end I mostly agree with you but part of me wants to believe that he choose to do that out of respect for Ashoka. Basically telling her that he won but it was close and he only succeeded because of his time working with Anakin/Darth Vader which is why he hopes she stays on Peridia because he doesn't know if he'd be successful the next time. Especially if she continues down the path that Anakin took (which, it's pretty obvious she won't fall to the Dark Side but one of Thrawn's weaknesses was always the individual compared to the culture of a species) Also, I'm 99% sure that statue WAS the Father as there was another statue to screen right of the Son and another to Screen Left of the Daughter but with her head removed.
Thrawn wasn't trying to kill the Jedi when he only sent two tie fighters out. He just needed to delay them. And he succeeded with the two. And those nomads are more like hermit crabs than turtles, eh?
You have to remember, Thrawn has been outside of the fight for 11 years, forced to dwell on his failure all that time, on a broken ship with little resources. Discovers that the Empire fell, and that his forces might be the last pure imperials left in the galaxy. So if he's shown getting a little bit frustrated, I think it's valid for him to lack patience because for the first time, he's so out gunned and out of practice. He's far from throwing a Kylo Ren style temper tantrum like you're making it sound.
I would like it if Xiono was shown all the wondrous things he thought were children's stories, and then knowing it was all real would scare the crap out of him and make him worse.
It does potentially make the New Republic look even worse though. Thrawn comes back and if he does reunify the Imperial Warlords and fight a war with the New Republic, it really makes them look mindlessly idiotic that they are so complacent after that. It made some sense if the New Republic went basically unchallenged for 30 years, but it comes across of just completely asinine if they HAD fought a real war in that time and just decided "Naw, their's clearly no threats out there, time to get disarmed and weak"
I agree with your criticisms of Thrawn, but please keep in mind that at this point, Thrawn has essentially been exiled for around 9 years. This is a Thrawn who is certainly not at his peak, and while his tactics may not seem like something 'peak' Thrawn would do (from the novels), you must keep in mind that his goal was primarily to stall for time (and conserve resources while doing so), which he did do successfully. I feel that once Thrawn gets ahold of better resources and picks himself back up again, he will be very menacing (aka what Hera is essentially afraid of, starting a new large scale war because Thrawn is back). I believe he will definitely fulfill that role if left unchecked.
Anakin goes from being in Ahsoka's dreams, to being historically present as an archived hologram in front of her, to being present in that very moment with her. He becomes more tangible and real as Ahsoka grows closer to him once more, becoming her true self and training her own Padawan to do the same. As Ahsoka grows into herself at her best, at her core, as does the presence of her Master, because he lives through her. By the end of the season, where we see him as a Ghost, he, present in the moment with his Padawan, no longer has any words to say - the training has been completed, all he does is smile with contentment, as she turns away and returns to her new life.
Having watched all of Rebels, Sabine had no Force sensitivity, or at least no one every said she did. Kanan showed how to use the sword, but even he never said anything about the Force and her and he would have if she had any chance to use it as he was her tutor at the time. Even at the start of Ahsoka she seems to have none, she can't move the cup, Huyang tells her she has hardly any Force power at all and Shin backs that up later .... and now from nowhere she can block blasters bolts, help open really huge stone doors and throw people using the Force long distances?! Guess she went to the school of Mary Sue like Rey did :D As for Thrawn, Filoni really f**ked up that character, but thats the problem when someone not very bright tries to write a character who is a genius. All Thrawn had to do this entire last episode was move his ship away from the fortress .... that's it, thats all he needed to do. You don't need to be a genius to know that. Your enemy is coming in on foot? Ok then as we are in a star destroyer lets get some altitude, or hell just move away from the spire so they can't walk aboard!!!! It seems these character also took some pointers from Game of Thrones season 8 when it came to getting places in seconds rather than days or weeks or even months. Huyang get the ship fixed and gets to Ahsoka in double quick time even after it looked like the ship was a right off ... and why didn't Thrawn's people detect the ship coming and fire at it? They manage to get from the crash site of Ahsoka's ship to Thrawn on wolf dogs in no time at all when Thrawn had already ordered Captain Goldface to move the ship to the ring of going places ... did they use a transporter from Trek perhaps?
I totally agree with all your points. The show sucked. Morgan wasn’t a compelling villain at all. Baylan did nothing but sigh and look menacing and then disappear. Loved the part when Ezra said “I don’t need a lightsaber” and the first thing he does next episode is build a lightsaber. Loved how Sabine is better than Ezra after training so much… I guess in the time it took them to get to the other galaxy which. This show is an utter mess it undoes character arcs that happened before, like Sabine training as a Jedi with Kanan just to understand that she’s a Mandalorian and she has her own strengths, which is now invalidated since she was a Jedi all this time. Ezra sacrifices himself and learns to let go of his parents to cherish his new family and defend them only now his sacrifice was invalidated since Sabine undid everything by letting Thrawn back into the galaxy and she didn’t even get as much as a frown as a consequence. I don’t know why people are so happy about this stupid show
Exactly! Another thing. Thrawn could have used a single tie fighter to slow down the wolves, just shoot infront of them to create enough debris to disrupt their path... Or have the tie fighter shoot at the entrance of the spire to blow it up. OR have the storm troopers that are waiting for their turn to get killed set up mines and demolition charges to go off if they don't make it OR create a kill box where the rebels small unit is exposed to full 360 degree enemy fire making it impossible for the rebels to make it without sustaining casualties. I know Storm Troopers are bad, but if hundreds of them can't stop 2 and a half jedi, they should just become suicide bombers. The plot armor was WAY TO STRONG for the rebels on this one.
Usually sending multiple fighters, their individual effectiveness drops as they have more things to worry about, I do believe that anything more than 4 would’ve overkill but tbh those 2 fighters had such an upper hand and plot armor just so happened to have them miss their initial straff which would have 100% not failed had it been the other way around as an initial attack in a fight
I also like how Hera brings an entire Platoon of republic security with her and spreads them out showing how much of a better commander she is than the guy in Episode 1 bringing 6 guards for potential jedi/sith opponents
fr "Damned Jedi... Lets take like, 0.0001% of the people needed to realistically threaten a force user!" vs "Someone's coming... ALL HANDS ON DECK READY TO MURDER WHOEVER STEPS OFF THAT SHIP AT THE FIRST SIGN OF HOSTILITY!" Peace time leaders vs Battle hardened war veterans who've already seen it all.
No wonder why thrawn moved up in the Empire. He knows how to spin every loss into everyone around him believing he won. He could have killed all three of them more times i can count, and if i can think of it Thrawn has an IQ of about 35
I assumed that Thrawn limiting the forces he sends was because he didn’t want to waste troops in a fight they can’t win, so he sends just enough to slow them down so that he can escape. So it’s more of a brilliant tactical move than an underestimation of the heroes.
Natasha Liu Bordizzo did a perfect job embodying Sabine in live-action - for me, she was a major highlight of the series, and I seriously don't get the criticism. She was absolutely wonderful and next to Baylan, my favourite character in the show.
Season 2 isn’t yet confirmed, so I’m curious where they are going to go from here because in my opinion a second season isn’t completely necessary. I kind of got the feeling that this was the end whenever Ahsoka mentioned that this was where they were meant to be. And I think there is a hidden beauty in the idea that Ahsoka, Sabine, Shin, and Baylan never make it back. The finale then can be seen as an end to each character’s story by setting up a new beginning. All of them grew as characters and achieved their goals. It would be a very mature ending to the series to just leave it at that and leave us as the audience knowing that this is the end of their story as we know. Not all characters have to die in a blaze of glory for us to see, and the show actually ties up the stories of each character well enough that they could potentially leave it at that. Now I assume there will be a season 2 bc profit is a thing and Disney wouldn’t pass that up. I do think though that they could potentially just leave Ahsoka as is and continue the Thrawn storyline in other Mandoverse shows/movies. To do that though would add a level of maturity to the finale that I just don’t feel is possible from a show like Ahsoka. It’s designed for a much wider audience than something like Andor, so the maturity of its themes and narrative are going to be noticeably less. I am slightly worried though how they will portray Baylan in season 2 (assuming it happens), just because I don’t know if another actor can match Ray Stevenson’s performance. His death unfortunately has kind of thrown a wrench in everything, so however Filoni handles it will be interesting to see.
About Thrawn’s end taunt: Part of it is, again, buying time. Try as she might, Ahsoka can’t ignore what he’s saying, especially when he talks about Anakin. The distraction of hearing him, plus his raising the possibility that she could still be seduced by the dark side as Anakin was, has an impact on her trying to get the ship to keep up with the Chimera. And a big part of it is character development for the benefit of the audience. We tend to forget that the series isn’t written just for Star Wars fans, and there are viewers who never read the original Thrawn trilogy and still haven’t grasped Thrawn’s significance. This is not a man who wants to wipe out his opponents; he’s a man who wants to accomplish a primary goal while at the same time expending a minimum of limited resources. He is also one who respects his opponents, and makes it clear to them that he does so. For people used to the more boolean, “us vs them” viewpoint of most Star Wars onscreen content, it’s a bit of a swerve that takes some getting used to.
respectfully, while thrawns key traits and personality shines through, his role in the story is the villain, which means just like in rebels, he doesnt get to be thrawn. because this isnt a comic book that can explore characters like that, this is a story, with protagonists, and certain perspectives it must follow.
I dunno, if Andor can do it with ISB officers on a smaller scale Im sure Filloni could make Thrawn more of an anti-hero with some effort..... Especially if it became canon that he was only keeping the Empire strong to protect the Chiss Confederacy from the Yuzhan Vong on their way to bitchslap the galaxy. Then he's got reasons beyond yay space nazis. @@upisntdownsilly
TV Tropes actually points out that all of his tactics make sense in one context: knowing that Ahsoka is Anakin’s former padawan, he absolutely does NOT want to put up with whatever she has in store for him in the event of a direct confrontation. He sends two TIEs to cripple their transport and keep them from flying right over, forcing them to approach on ground (as he correctly predicts later). He dispatches a platoon of Night Trooper volunteers and has the Great Mothers reanimate them once they predictably go down, further slowing the Jedi. Elsbeth remains behind to slow them down even more. The only thing that allowed Ezra to get aboard the Chimera was Sabine suddenly getting the Force out of nowhere. If not for that Thrawn would have left them behind with no way to get back to their home galaxy while he’d be able to return with a few less Jedi to deal with and the Republic willfully ignorant of his return. His every tactical decision proved to be logical, there was just some wild card/plot armour/etc that threw off the result like Baylan not partaking in the attack on Ezra and Sabine’s convoy, Ahsoka managing to use the Purgill to follow Elsbeth, Sabine getting the Force, etc.
Loved it, even if the season was too short (these shows really should be 10-12 episodes per season). I hope there's a season 2 if only so Hera and Ezra can kick the sh*t out of Xiono.
The picturesque and mountainous region that Baylan overlooks feels like something Lewis Carrol could have written. I am not sure if it's the way the camera side sweeps to show the new region, but there is something that makes it feel old and that Baylan was never supposed to find it. It presents itself as a forbidden wonderland and might just be the place where Abeloth is lying in wait, additionally the statues of the force triad pointing inward seems is a clear garden post for "Evil entity buried here. No touchy!"
I got a Lord of the Rings Arrgonath vibe from the statues; only saw 2 figures myself, because I was trying to recognize whose arm Babylon was standing on…
I’m pretty sure the TIE/LN’s would’ve been agile enough to get out of the way, holding up your arms and screaming doesn’t seem like something a pilot with over a decade of experience would do. Death trooper death troopers was fun though.
I think they handled the force growth well. A throwback to Luke in the cave on Hoth, once she realizes she can use the force, she accepts it and her mind is opened.
Totally agree. I feel she also was kinda blocked & finally finding Ezra then seeing Ahsoka was alive, she was able to relax enough to open herself(subconsciously of course). You can see it in her shift in attitude too
Thrawn kept sending little by little to slow down the Jedi; he knew that he could never stop them, but he needed to keep stopping them with little fights, just enough to cripple them. Honestly, 1 TIE would have probably sufficed with an ambush, but Thrawn was being pragmatically cautious by sending 2. The only hopes he probably had to defeat the Jedi was probably only when Baylin was potentially going to be on his side, but as soon as he found out Baylin abandoned him he switched tactics to hit-and-run delaying.
nah the ending has fully broken my heart we didn’t find out any more about baylan and shin and they haven’t made this world seem exciting enough for me to be excited that sabine and ahsoka are stuck there
Yeah. And i don't know they'll do with baylan because I think hes the best character in the show and they've done so little in this that they might just get rid of the character.
What I actually want to see is Ahsoka and Sabine, leaving Paridia and actually exploring this Galaxy. Are there grand civilisations out there? Is this an old and failing galaxy? Clearly the natives on Paridia have advanced technology like blasters and repulsors, but they seem rare. They promised us adventures in a whole new Galaxy and if is just one planet they show us, I'll be hacked off
What I felt overall: The good: Ezra was smuggled back to the main galaxy, and now has the opportunity to alert the New Republic and everybody else about Thrawn's new menace. The bad: Dathomir PROBABLY has prepared for Thrawn's return, and most likely has plenty in store, in means of chaos for everybody else who isn't Thrawn. The holy sh*t: This will probably be a war fought on two fronts, on two different galaxies. The threat of Baylan and Shin may escalate real quickly, with Ahsoka and Sabine probably in the wringer, and it's less because they're stranded in Peridea... but more because of WHAT ELSE is in that planet.
I’ve been seeing this idea float around: At the end of “Rebels,” Ezra does kill two death troopers prior to the pergil attack. Those two undead Death Troopers are probably those same ones killed in Rebels. Also, recognize that Thrawn gave the tie pilot captain a citation for his actions even though he got killed.
Concerning the Blade of Talsin: Talsin could also be some legendary Nightsister/figure from the past and the Nightsisters in the present still name their daughters after her, to honor her legacy etc. Just like in real history, when Kings named their heirs after famous figures and Kings that came befor. But it's just a little fun theory.
In the final scenes with Ezra returning to the new republic I forgot for a second that he had hidden on Thrawns ship and thought that a single zombie night-trooper had been sent to wreak havoc on the starship
@@acedelta12 Ezra Bridger loves helmets so much he keeps wearing them wherever he goes, no matter if it's reasonable or not. Also he collects them. He would find a friend in Din Djarin.
Idk about your criticism of sending just two tie fighters. He mentions how his resources are minimal and how the objective there is to slow down Ahsoka (which he does manage to do).and in a way I think that this is the opposite of underestimating his opponents. Heck, he could send all his troops at once...and then Ezra would find a way on board the ship and kill him or something like that. Just trying to slow down his opponents instead of getting rid of them shows that he actually is focusing on the main objective.
Disagree, he is incrementally dispatching troops to better understand his opponent - this is clear as his dialogue develops imo (commenting this at like 2:30)
This. He's seen waves of TIEs and Stormtroopers fall to a single Jedi. What's the point of sending more to needlessly die? Sacrifice as few as possible to achieve your objective.
Imagine he would have sent two more as back up. After the crash of the Jedi shuttle this two additional TIEs would have been able to destroy the shuttle and maybe even kill someone (without plot-armor). The problem isn‘t if Thrawn did it right or not. The scene isn‘t real. Thrawn isn’t real. Filoni wanted to add problems to the heros to make the finale more compelling. He didn‘t want to write a scene were the heros are wiped out or without any ressources to win. So the outcome must always be a minor draw back. But that leads over the course of the show‘s episodes to a series of attacks always too weak to really damage the heros. I would like to agree with your statement, but then it would have been necessary to show/tell us about the limitation of Thrawns means. A word about being low on fuel or pilots or anything. - Or it could have been written as a two fighter patrol looking for the enemy instead of being a strike force. Then the rebels would have had a reason to hurry up, because they know they have been detected and will be attacked with more force. - But without that any explanation it wasn‘t really believeable and therefor in my eyes not the best writing.
@@holgerptacek3144 it seems like you are the one whos thinking is flawed, not thrawns, because how would he have known the state of the rebels? there was no guarantee that the rebels were not just in the ship ready to shoot down any fighters they see, and there was no way thrawn couldve known they hadnt already took off (they were literally ready and wouldve if not for the damage), so it would make no sense to send all his troops against an enemy of which both their location and state being unknown

I enjoy them every time and always laugh out loud in that unexpected moment. I’m sure you don’t hear this enough but thanks for slipping them into your already great content.
Enjoyed the series overall but you're right the finale left more to be desired, and I expected as much. I also wish they had Thrawn do some more high IQ moves, every other promotion they're saying hes "always 7 steps ahead" of everyone cause he's smart, and I know he is, but we weren't really shown that.
Could have atleast had the final scene be the shadow council of moffs throwing themselves at his feet with some classic Imperial Music so the audience all get how big of a deal thrawn is to the Remnant.
I think that is exactly what will happen. Ahsoka Season 2 will focus on Ahsoka and Sabine on Perridea with the looming threat of whatever Baylan is looking for whereas Mando Season 4 and other shows will focus on Thrawn's return. I hope that with Thrawn's return we get more focus on Luke, Han and Leia. I hope Filoni has been setting this up correctly. We have Wayland and Mount Tantis introduced into Bad Batch, Joruus C'Baoth is probably being replaced by the great mothers. Rukh is replaced with Enoch, Borsk Fey'lya by Xiono. Also I think Boba is going to replace Kardde. I am hoping that is what Filoni is doing.
Okay so here's the big thing, thrawn is all about buying time. He's not about defeating them. His win condition is to make it back to the Star wars Galaxy. That's it get back to that galaxy and get to Dathomir.
As far as I can tell, Baylan is stood on the father's finger as he points to that mountain in the center of the reverse shot. (Weird light ontop) you can clearly see the fathers statue and to his left the Son. The daughter is on his right but her statue is mostly destroyed, like her...
Well I honestly loved the way Thrawn was portrayed so overall this was a total dub for me. More Abeloth evidence makes me a happy boy. Biggest issue is how difficult dealing with Ray Stevenson’s passing will be.
Shinhati going to the tribal warriors sort of reminds me of early legends where the ex jedi meet the sith race and I hope I'm right that it will be something like that
There's some freaky things happening on that Star Destroyer... In time for Halloween... Ahsoka feels like shareware. Get a few chapters of the story but have to pay for the movie for the rest.
I think Thrawn’s entire strategic goal was to buy time because he did not think he could attain a decisive victory against the Jedi. That’s why he sent the bare minimum to slow them down.
@@jamiemunn9200He did... multiple times, he said that he didn't care if the troops he sent ended up killing them or not, either way he was good enough for him as long as he left, at no point was his plan to kill them, but to buy time.
A bittersweet ending. So many open doors showing there’s a great variety of stories that can be told with Jedi, making it hurt even more how the sequel movies preemptively closed those doors by wiping out Luke’s academy.
I would love for a new novel or series of novels about the time of Thrawn on Perridea, just the tidbit from Ezra was great, but it would be nice to have Timothy Zahn elaborate on it and continue his series of Thrawn books. Guided by Filoni it could make for an interesting way to fill in the gap.
I honestly agree with allen, the show was really good but i also don't like how faloni handled thrawn. I mean, only sending 2 ties is meh strategically for just a distraction it sorta makes sense but being tight on material and personal to just send token forces that get killed doesn't feel too much like thrawn. My biggest problem is how thrawn feels like just a generic smart villain when legends thrawn was completely more interesting than that. Faloni in my opinion, could have fixed this in ahsoka due to rebels being more of a kid's show, but now it looks like thrawn will just be a generic smart villain.
As an in-universe explanation for Sabine suddenly being Force Sensitive, I like to think that when the Nightsister spirits possessed her back when she, Ezra and Kanan went to Dathomir, it opened her up to the possibility to connect to the Force as a Force Sensitive.
We are watching Star Wars. A wee bit of nonsensical camp is like a sprinkling of black pepper on macaroni & cheese. ANDOR's currently the only series that's resisted the campy impulse.
@@eme.261 nonsensical in what way? the force flows through all living things, that was the original intention for star wars by george lucas and has always been. just because she wasnt moving buildings with her mind in rebels doesnt mean she cant train to harness the force. this is the close minded attitude that makes star wars so toxic, you people get angry that everything is fanservice and nothing new, but you regard all new ideas and new directions as nonsense, so why would they tell new stories if all you want to hear is already established things that really should be left in its grave?
@@upisntdownsilly - Clearly, you really needed to get that verbose treatise off your chest. Good for you. Funny thing: I'd meant to post my initial reply to the comment beneath this, but I'll leave it here, as it prompted such a fervent, almost religious in nature, reply from you.
I say a big gg: usually, additions to the universe of SW add origins or futurs, but too rarely links, in this series, you had a link, between the 6 et 7 movies, the novels and comics, and the animated shows. A huge thumb up.
Thrawn couldn't have more ON imo. He's smarter than all of us put together but you think you could write him better? The creator of the character wrote his lines and he's portrayed by Nickleson in live action. It doesn't get any better... Why nit pick something you claim to love?
I'm perhaps overly concerned about Baylan Skoll/Ray Stevenson in this series. Perhaps Disney/Lucasfilm got the drop on all of us by concluding his story in Season 2 filming prior to his untimely passing.
I like the show. But a Bad Recipe that Star wars has Is low stakes for the protagonist, or they make it seem like lower stakes. The characters just brush it off like nothing happened lol. Idk, and then as you said, thrawns Fleet should be a lot more dangerous than they were.... it was Just a standard Stormtrooper meme moment with every scene they had. Like when they had them surrounded with the little turtle dudes there were like 20+ troopers all weapons in them and they just stared at them. Idk they just put a lot of illogical moments in there. Imo they should get Gareth Edwards or Tony Gilroy in for the actions scenes. The scenes in Rogue one and Andor were great you could feel the weight of the scenes and the stakes. The antagonist felt dangerous well the heroes were out numbered and still managed to fight their way through with logical means. But the story so far is good. I wish they had disclosed what baylon was doing though or who was calling him.
While we're waiting for new star wars content I will be catching up with clone wars. I know you have tons of great content about the show. Is there a way to view it in order or with episode numbers? It would do so much to add to the show.
while rebels feels at least more chronologically sound, the clone wars is mainly just a compilation of 2-3 episode long arcs that are shown not in chronological order at all, though it does feel more connected especially towards the end seasons, where it becomes clear the order of stories. you might be able to find listings on chronological order online but its really all not that obvious and theres definitely not enough information to find when each episode took place in relation to every other one, so i would just watch clone wars in the sequence that it was released, and be patient with it. filoni always takes a while to get to the good part, and if you havent watched clone wars at all before, there might be things you really need to tolerate during the earlier seasons
Thrawn's entire goal was to just escape exile with as many people alive as possible without stowaway Jedi. His strategy changed from kill to delay as soon as he realized Anakin was Ahsoka's master. He knows that if he sends 200 troopers and 6 Ties that would simply mean Ahsoka racks up another 206 kills.

Ezra continuing to wear the night trooper armor way beyond the point where it's needed will haunt my thoughts for a long time. Dave really needed that unmasked reveal between Hera and Ezra.
I needed them to hug
I like to think Ezra would do something like wear the armor the entire trip or get back into it before walking off the shuttle just for fun of shocking hara a little bit more than she'll already be
Stormtrooper armor is resistant to space, and maybe that shuttle was defective and so Ezra may have beeen using it as a makeshift space suit in the event of a hull breach. If he toook off the armor, he would have been trusting imperial maintenance protocols over a 10 year period while they were stranded.

Thrawn doesn't want to risk losing a lot of resources at once, especially since he really only needs them to buy time.
Cartoon and Film canon should not mix for this very reason.
@@stevena.7022 its why i have always allowed a pass on her jumping when pointing out her unique abilites. that said, it does appear to be something unique to her and the force sensitives of the show. i can't recall hera making those kinds of jumps or any of their human or human-like allies who fight with them.

Yeah, but still every respecting themself Jedi would beat her ass.
This is exactly what I said when I binged this show last week.
@@sakisaotome6753 Sabine*

Your Ahsoka "Ronin" call few videos ago speaks to your indebt knowledge of the Force.
May the force continue to be with you!
Actually yea, they do seem like the San people and Jawas, good point.
I got the impression that Baylan Skoll can read their minds. Like Jorus C’baoth in the legacy Thrawn series
The scene when anakin as a force ghost appared made me legit cry. The smirk/smile is typical anakin, he looked proud and that he has been on ashoka shoulder the whole time. The scene made me feel like a kid again, all the scenes with anakin did that. No other star wars show has done that. Imo Dave Filoni is the successor for Lucas.
where as to me, it was absolute pointless fanservice.
How was it abrupt? That's like a classic kanan/ezra move?
I just loved the Ahsoka series… I love watching the after programmes on TH-cam. It improves the experience!
It was clearly the statue of the father, the son and a beheaded daughter. The father was pointing to a shiny thing on the horizon
Especially if she continues down the path that Anakin took (which, it's pretty obvious she won't fall to the Dark Side but one of Thrawn's weaknesses was always the individual compared to the culture of a species)
Also, I'm 99% sure that statue WAS the Father as there was another statue to screen right of the Son and another to Screen Left of the Daughter but with her head removed.
Thrawn wasn't trying to kill the Jedi when he only sent two tie fighters out. He just needed to delay them. And he succeeded with the two. And those nomads are more like hermit crabs than turtles, eh?
Sometimes it feels like YOU'RE lifting up the entire series! The turn around on these videos is nuts!!!
I want a zombie Stormtrooper army rampaging across Hosnia Prime.
@@HolyknightVader999 Xiono: Ah yes, "Zombie Troopers", We have dismissed that claim...
@@weldonwin I want Xiono to make those air-quotes when he says that.
"The show gave me a spark of hope, but somehow thinking about the sequels made me sad again" - classmate
Guess she went to the school of Mary Sue like Rey did :D
As for Thrawn, Filoni really f**ked up that character, but thats the problem when someone not very bright tries to write a character who is a genius.
I'm going to need more live action Ezra though. He was so well cast.

No wonder why thrawn moved up in the Empire.
He knows how to spin every loss into everyone around him believing he won. He could have killed all three of them more times i can count, and if i can think of it
Thrawn has an IQ of about 35
I assumed that Thrawn limiting the forces he sends was because he didn’t want to waste troops in a fight they can’t win, so he sends just enough to slow them down so that he can escape.
Filoni will have a difficult time recasting Baylan, it'll be difficult to find an actor who is the same caliber as Ray Stevenson.
I just wish this last episode was 60 minutes or to have a 10 episode season. Oh well. Hopefully we get a season 2
We need a season 2. We need the Ghost crew to be reunited
He’s sending troops a title at a time.
Yeah. He saved a lot of lives. And he won.
About Thrawn’s end taunt:
Part of it is, again, buying time.
Alan I feel ya on getting a little sad at the end of a season but here’s hoping we won’t have to wait too long for more SW content!
You can see it in her shift in attitude too
It was Rey Palpatine style force growth.

They promised us adventures in a whole new Galaxy and if is just one planet they show us, I'll be hacked off
0:45 I didn’t predict the whole team would end up stuck in the t other galaxy, I also didn’t hear many other people predicting that either.
What I felt overall:
The good: Ezra was smuggled back to the main galaxy, and now has the opportunity to alert the New Republic and everybody else about Thrawn's new menace.
Mother Talsin?
Mother talsin was the leader of the nightsisters, in the clone wars general grievous killed her maybe they’ll try to bring her back

When Thrawn called Ahsoka a "ronin" I SCREAMED at my TV that you called it!!! 🤣
Grand Admiral Thrawn has successfully escaped and is meeting up with the Imperial Remnants.
Long live the Empire!
I don't think Thrawn was stalling the hyperspace jump, he was just chatting before they were ready to go.
You sounded wayyy happier talking about Andor Star Wars

Funny thing: I'd meant to post my initial reply to the comment beneath this, but I'll leave it here, as it prompted such a fervent, almost religious in nature, reply from you.
i like your chanel, you dont hate things just because people expect you to.
I did that after episode 4. Ploughed through Clone Wars and Rebels. It's insightful.
while rebels feels at least more chronologically sound, the clone wars is mainly just a compilation of 2-3 episode long arcs that are shown not in chronological order at all, though it does feel more connected especially towards the end seasons, where it becomes clear the order of stories. you might be able to find listings on chronological order online but its really all not that obvious and theres definitely not enough information to find when each episode took place in relation to every other one, so i would just watch clone wars in the sequence that it was released, and be patient with it. filoni always takes a while to get to the good part, and if you havent watched clone wars at all before, there might be things you really need to tolerate during the earlier seasons
I think their time "stranded" on the planet would Sabine time to train to use the force.
Hopefully by some miracle the Purgil will once again come to the rescue
