You can also soak your rice and legumes (beans, lentils, etc.) in water overnight and rinse a couple times before cooking to reduce the gas causing effect. :)

I’m a type 2 diabetic and I went in a plant based diet! YES YES IT DOES LOWER YOUR SUGARS and it’s good although just last night I awakened at 10 pm and was at 68 do I ate some yogurt and at 3 am had got up to only 86! That’s still low for me ( doc want me at 120) but I’m good with the results overall. Very soon I’m be diabetic free!

Lorraine Shobajo I wouldn't listen to a doctor who tells you he wants your sugar at 120! I reversed my diabetes (and other "conditions") fast when I became vegan and got off all my medicines. My sugars typically run in the 60s and 70s and I feel great! Would never try to raise my sugar to please a typical mainstream doctor.

120s is horrible. My father is a diabetic and even his goal is to be at least below 100. Im prediabetic and ive decided to go plant based because of so many people testifying on the reversal of diabetes. I am trying to prove it to my dad that it works so then i can convince him to try.

That's easiest. Steel cut or GOATS with blueberries and flax to start. You can add from there. And drop dairy. That is the by far the simplest thing to do to begin.

I actually have less gas on vegan. Mind you, I was eating loads of fibre while being and omnivore so I have not been feeling the sudden increase in fibre. I think I have less gas now because my food transit time is faster. Also, my general BO, mouth odour and poo and gas are all dramatically different. I mean big time difference... My shit don't stink!:-)

  • @broddr

Good tips for people going from omnivore to vegan. I went from vegetarian to vegan, no gas or bloating issues. And I ate more, but still lost 16 pounds and 2 inches off my waistline without trying. Probably from no longer consuming all the fat in dairy cheese.

Should have mentioned the inflammation reduction. It may not happen immediately. My experience was the remedy of somewhat persistent edema in my left foot and ankle area. The edema started after a biking accident. Doctors and specialist could not diagnose it. My foot would not be swollen all the time; When it did swell my protocol was to elevate the foot for 20-30 minutes at the end of my day. For more than a decade I did that. Long story short, after about, I want to say 2-3 weeks, maybe 4-6, one evening just before dinner, I'd sat in my chair for my nightly protocol of such a day: To take off my shoe and sock, to elevate my swollen foot. To my jaw-dropping surprise, their was no swelling. Mind you, I am lactose intolerant. So I'd been on plant-based milk for years. And just as information, I'd been off the four-legged 'meats' for a decade. So I'm not sure what, besides, my diet was the 'cure' for my persistent edema. Maybe the remaining dairy, something in the fast food, an increase in nutrients from more vegetables and fruits. You still can be overweight as a vegan eater. I love me some vegans. I have found that plant-based whole foods is the motto, category, mantra or whatever you want to call it for me. It helps me minimize the processed foods which are vegan but not the better choice. I notice that my lunches remind me of my childhood when my mom prepared a small bag of food for school. I have a container of my main meal, a container of fruit and a tiny container for a snack (a couple of cookies and/or trail mix). Consistency is the key

For issues in adjusting to beans, there are products and spices that can be used to reduce gas, eg Bean-zyme, ajwain seeds, asafoetida, turmeric, ginger.
I went vegan a couple of months ago, and did the slow adjustment, so there were minimal issues with digestion. However, I noticed the body has become more sensitive to foods that are not so healthy - particularly many processed foods and including any foods with too much fat.
Such experiences have made it clear that it's not enough to go vegan, but the diet has to minimise or cut out processed foods, and keep fats as low as possible (no added oil), especially if you have delicate digestion.

Before I went vegan three years ago, I had slowly slipped into a cheesesteaks-and-burgers-every-day phase, so before I knew it I was up from my normal 165 to 185. Going vegan got me down to 177 and for three years I fluctuated around that weight, continuing to eat vegan junk food several times a week. For me, being vegan basically prevented further weight gain, but didn't lead to weight loss. But it wasn't until I went completely starch-based when the COVID crisis happened a few weeks ago that I really started to notice a difference. In a few weeks I'm down 15 pounds and the downward trend continues. Thanks to legumes and grains with no oil or processed foods.

And it's also about how you cook them, at some you have change the cooking water twice. Adding spices like oregano can make this easier to handle.

I'm able to stay under my maintenance calories and get more protein than my daily requirement on a vegan diet. You just have to count calories and your macros and be smart about which foods you choose if you're trying to do a body recomposition. I started doing this two months ago and have been losing fast while not losing muscle. In fact, some of my lifts have gone up.
The only problem I had at the gym when I went vegan was all the extra fiber that my body wasn't use to... particularly doing squats 💩🤣 But my body adjusted eventually 😜

I don't know about the "melt away the pounds" part. I've been struggling over the last couple years with fat. Lots and lots of ways to very easily overdo fat, especially with avocados & nuts (and oils - MUST avoid oils)

    • @TSeeker1
      @TSeeker1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Instead of demonizing ESSENTIAL fats such as nuts, seeds (like flax, pumpkin, chia and sunflower) or avocados - all of which are plant based rich sources of Omega 3s and 6s, maybe stop using maple syrup, agave and any other sugars regardless of the source. Better to get the vitamins, minerals, omega 3, protein, etc. than eating processed foods and sweets, including "gluten free" foods. Most grains are naturally free of gluten, but when some are processed they are loaded with added sugars. Check most any "whole grain" bread list - LOADED with sugars and corn solids! Most people are not even gluten intolerant or Celiac, but are reacting to GMO and other unnatural chemicals in conventional and processed foods, especially dairy if they are "vegetarian". I hope this helps. :-)

1111TruthSeeker that all great but what if one does as you say? Some people actually gain weight at first....especially if you have metabolic damage. I excluded all processed sugars, oils, added salts, etc. I pretty much ate vegetables, fruits, beans, rice, quinoa, ect. Whole foods only. I didn't eat avacodos but that's because I don't like them. Nor do I like bananas. I did have some seeds like pumpkin, unsalted sunflower seed. A small amount of almonds and cashews. I didn't eat syrups and didn't even know about agave until I was a yr into my vegan diet. I gained 25lbs at first until my body balanced out. . . Then I did lose and feel great.

I’m badly addicted to my coffee consumption and I believe I might try to be vegan for a week to see if I’m able to achieve this new lifestyle or not. Also, looking at my pet dog, I hate to eat an animal knowing it’s as living as my pet or me. It just happen recently when I gave a thought about stop eating chicken. She states at 6:30 that bloating and gas are a transitional issue when converting to plant based eating. I have been whole food vegan 14 years and still can get considerable gas and painful bloating. I have to limit certain foods such as beans, . I can't handle most legumes except at very reduced amounts.
I don't know why this is. It seems like it was not as bad in the first few years of being vegan and has gotten really bad the last 4 years. Maybe I picked up a bad bug somewhere.
I eat reduced amounts of and have to watch things like beans, mushrooms, onions, garlic, broccoli (all the really healthy stuff).
Perhaps it is that combination with eating more fibrous starchy foods like whole grains.

Obvious not everyone has the same amazing results. I wish somebody would come on and tell the truth about the negative affects of transitioning for some people. It’s discouraging and I feel like I’m not even doing the right thing, I’m starting to doubt whether I should continue to eat this way.

The issue could be too much processed foods or not enough calories. Why not see a nutritionist or dietician who can assess the diet and see where the problem is.

Not everyone loses (and keeps off) weight. I have been vegan 13 years and when I say vegan, I mean vee--gan. I eat one box of donuts (with eggs in them) per year at Christmas. That's it. I was vegan 9 months before I lost any weight and I lost a significant amount but over the past 5-7 years, I've gained 30lbs back. I only have 30lbs more to go to be my pre-vegetarian weight. Vegan diet does not necessarily mean perfectly healthy and no such thing as overeating. Other than that, my health is perfect and I'm 53.

That's usually what it is. For WEIGHT LOSS.
You want to be eating the real starches.
      POTATOES
      SWEET POTATOES
      RICE
      OATS
      WHOLE WHEAT PASTA.
Add some beans to this. Like one of my Delicious vegetable curries.
      Or my bean burritos.
Mashed potato with Barley and bean stew.
Trust me you will feel so full. You will not overeat on calories and the weight will fall off of you. I went from an obese 225lbs at 5 8". To a toned 165lbs in just 7 months. Eating food like this.

Please help! I'm guessing that I am just different, everything works different with me; I went Vegan over night! I had terrible stomach pains, even constipation, bloating, gassy, gaining weight. I really had these systems while eating a meal, the pains and the gas while at the dinner table along with an immediate full feeling were unbelievable. On day 54 I went to the restroom it was very painful and bright blood on tissue, I was seen by a doctor that same day, he question my new diet and vitamins and wants me to see a Nutritionist immediately, And my poop has been a pale tan color for almost 2 weeks. Doc said because I had no nutrition in my body. I started eating meat and dairy products again for 3 days now and of course all symptoms as of today are gone# What gives, please! 😥😓

"Went vegan"...this can mean many things.Did you just cut out animal based foods and carry on eating what you normally eat or did you research what you should be eating?Your food combining choices can have a dramatic effect on the outcome.Eating properly should not have the negative outcome that you have described although in some cases the adjustment can be a shock to your system,a system that is used to the SAD diet.
Smoothies should become a staple every morning(or whenever you decide) as you can put most every healthy ingredient(nuts, seeds, greens, fruit etc) into one easily digestible and nutritious package.I spoon in ground flax, hemp etc for added goodness.
Give your gut bacteria time to adjust and try to get some juicing in as well.
Hope you do not stay with the "started eating meat and dairy products" route...give your body time to adjust and maybe get off the animal poison slowly. You will be happy in the end...very happy.Go well :-)

Paul Mack ,,, , I think maybe I was eating too many vegetables at the beginning also a lot of beans, this may have been my problem and I took out all meat products and dairy products at once. I did go back to eating some meat for 6 days and now I went back to the vegan diet. I love smoothies it's been very cold so I haven't done smoothies for awhile, I will start again. Thanks for your help!

Although I do agree that plants are really good for us, a little meat/fish/dairy is what is needed for optimal health. IT’S HOW OUR ANCESTORS ATE!!!!!!!. ALL of the food should be clean and organic with the animal based foods being humanely raised.

    • @castropolous8784
      @castropolous8784 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

A vegan diet is the best way you can for optimal health. Check out the documentary WHAT THE HEALTH- it’s loaded with info about this.
Also, nothing about the way animals are raised in the meat and dairy industries is even close to “humane”...but let’s say in a dream world they were raised humanely...how do you humanely slaughter them so you can eat them? If you can explain humane slaughter, I’d really like to hear it!

Historical fallacy. Not more true because its in caps.
Forget what the health though do some of your own research from unbiased peer reviewed articles.
After doing my own research ive come to the conclusion that eating meat even in small amounts is just not worth the risk. Nobody can tell you for sure that its bad for your health (thats not how science works) but once you have read the data its hard to deny.
I grew up on a beef farm so believe me when i say i tried to deny it.

I've been vegan for years and I have never lost weight. Either I have the worst cortisol issue ever seen in "man", or I don't know what to say. I am NO skinny vegan, yet I eat predominantly plant based (occasional mock meats, but not frequently), and I am not a big sweet eater. I am at a loss. Regardless, my blood work is amazing and veganism has been a lifesaver for me... just not a weight loss success.

Are you using oils? I never lost weight either, although I was never overweight, at least according to my BMI. Still, I knew I would be better off losing about 5-10 lbs. Then recently, almost 25 years in, I cut out all oils and processed foods--for my creeping up blood pressure, not thinking about weight. To my surprise, I not only brought down my BP, but lost almost 15 lbs, eating lots of food.
