So, apparently a lot of the people who watched this video lack basic listening skills and completely missed the point I was trying to make.
The purpose of this video isn't to discuss the reasons why I think the city should get a team or if I think it will ever get one, the purpose of this video is to showcase my idea for how the city could accommodate a hypothetical team. So any of you who are commenting "Toronto won't get a team" or anything along those lines, congratulations, you missed the point.

Never really realized this, but they could have added a stadium as a part of the portlands development near east harbour. With the Ontario line and go expansion not far away, it would be a perfect spot for a stadium. I could imagine it similar to tottenham hotspur stadium allowing soccer events to be played with real grass (would have been useful for the ‘26 World Cup) the only main issue would likely be who owns it, since I doubt rogers or mlse would like a stadium that size competing against their venues (mainly for concerts)

I think its a decent spot but I feel like north by the Downsview park station would be better because then you have GO connections meaning suburban fans would have better, faster, direct, and high capacity connections to the stadium. Then there would be an even less need for parking because of park and ride stations throughout the network.

  • @bufnyfan1

Before the SkyDome (Rogers Center) was built in the late 1980s the Government of Ontario commissioned a study to determine the best place to build it. The number 1 site was in Downsview Park followed by its current site by the CN tower and finally at the site of the old Greenwood Racetrack in the east end. The aircraft building company De Havilland located near Downsview Park threatened to leave North York (and take thousands of jobs with it) if the stadium was built at Downsview. So the second site was chosen instead (not sure why Greenwood was not considered again).

Spoken like my drunk uncle in Saskatoon who thinks people in Toronto WATCH CFL HAHAHA
The CFL only has 9 teams. Because it is MASSIVELY UNPOPULAR...can't even find a tenth team.
Has a pathetic salary cap of $4.02 million USD.
So the entire CFL combined. Every player on every roster combined is only $36.18 million USD.
Aaron Rogers made $37.5 million last year.
17th highest paid player in the NFL makes more than the ENTIRE CFL combined.
So, we can safely say the CFL is not a real league. Just like the XFL was not a real league.
But Toronto is a REAL CITY (7,281,694 people in 2021).
Get rid of the least supported CFL team will not hurt the CFL.
Getting rid of Oakland Raiders did not hurt the NFL.
Getting rid of Arizona Coyotes did not hurt the NHL.
I think...you LOVE the CFL...and realize once NFL is in Canada the CFL is massively irrelevant. Furthermore, if the CFL drops from 9 to 8 teams...they will NEVER expand again...the league is dying...70 years to expand....nobody wants to do business with the CFL...I don't blame them. The product is garbage.
The product is garbage. The CFL is garbage TV.
      Garbage TV.
      Garbage sport.
I want to watch, but YOUR PRODUCT IS UNWATCHABLE.
      Try:
      - changing for once....
      - try 4 downs...3 downs IS BORING....your dumb patriotic Canadian garbage killed this league
      - try expanding...if you can't get a SINGLE person interested in your team in 70 years maybe your PRODUCT IS GARBAGE!
      - Quebec City, Halifax, Saskatoon....there are LITERALLY CITIES IN CANADA THAT CAN SUPPORT CFL...but NOBODY wants to watch.
I just want an NFL team now...I'm NEVER going to an Argo's game again for the rest of my life...same with the Tiger Cats or Redblacks...so....who is going??????

Love to see some urban planning knowledge. I love this channel because you mix your knowledge of geography and of sports plus you tend to mention places within Canada a lot. I’m a big fan and I have many similar ideas. I’m a urban planner from Toronto and I’ve been thinking a lot about Canadian concept leagues based on demographics, economics and geography. I have this fictional idea for all Canadian pro hockey league in a alternate universe where the USA and Canada have separate pro hockey leagues. I’ll have to make my own video one day explaining how I’ve structured it and the arenas I’ve used for teams but I’d love to see someone else tackle this fictional concept. Perhaps you’d find it interesting to create a video one day with your vision for a Canadian hockey league. Anyways great stuff and thanks for the interesting videos.

The only thing I would change would be a retractable roof. Scrap that and go with a translucent roof. There is ample evidence that most retractable roofs remain closed most of the time anyway so matches can be played under optimal conditions anyway. A new NFL style stadium would be expensive but doing this means the budget could go to other things.

Downsview is a massive opportunity for developers to make $, they don't care about housing middle and working and lower class people.
Maybe the Woodbine raceway area? I used to work there. The Eglinton LRT line could be extended maybe by 2055 (sarcasm sorta), there is a dedicated UP rail line to the airport that's massive under used. There's plenty of land for parking and decent bus service to central and northern Etobicoke from the Bloor Danforth line
Maybe Peel region will help out now that they've built up its nameless suburbia, Hazel wanted LRT and transit after her son made his fortune in building Peel.😅

Downsview Airport is NOT the answer...the ROAD infrastructure to and from the stadium SUCKS...it would be serviced by highway 401 which is the busiest highway on the continent, it sits at the north end of the Allen Expressway which is a mini highway that really does not go anywhere north or south...sure it is serviced OKAY by public transit (subway) but the road traffic in and out and around that area is a quagmire already...a new Toronto stadium would have to go outside the city, one of the suburbs around it...also the lands you are talking about to the NE (at the start of the vid) would face all sorts of environmental regulations and so putting a stadium there (I know you said no due to traffic on Steeles) would not work as they cancelled a highway back in the late 80s (Rouge River Expressway) due to environmental reasons so that location is a no for 2 reasons (and in truth the traffic reason ain't that much of an issue as it is near highway 407...my view is the feds should sell the Pickering Airport lands, built high speed rail between Pearson and Munroe (along highway 407, north of Dundas, and highway 6 to Hamilton) so that international airport traffic in the city is taken care of (Munroe is an international airport in Hamilton that is underutilized and so really only used for cargo), and then build the stadium at the Pickering Airport planned site...

What a joke. Canadians never support anything. Americans fill 100,000 seats for college football. Australians fill 100,000 seat stadiums for Aussie rules football. Most countries have stadiums larger than anything we have. The NFL plays games in other countries and get packed stadiums, but when they played in Toronto they got a lot of empty seats. We can't even fill a rinky dink stadium for our own football team, which has been around for 150 years. The other main reasons it will never happen is because no one is rich enough to buy a team and build a stadium, and the prime reason is because most of the NFL's money comes from TV revenue. TV networks would not want to have their money going to a Canadian team because they would get zero revenue from advertising, thus, there is nothing in it for them.
There is tailgating allowed and done at CFL games, here at BMO and well done in Hamilton every game, if it is tailgating that you think is the big draw.
