Love to see some urban planning knowledge. I love this channel because you mix your knowledge of geography and of sports plus you tend to mention places within Canada a lot. I’m a big fan and I have many similar ideas. I’m a urban planner from Toronto and I’ve been thinking a lot about Canadian concept leagues based on demographics, economics and geography. I have this fictional idea for all Canadian pro hockey league in a alternate universe where the USA and Canada have separate pro hockey leagues. I’ll have to make my own video one day explaining how I’ve structured it and the arenas I’ve used for teams but I’d love to see someone else tackle this fictional concept. Perhaps you’d find it interesting to create a video one day with your vision for a Canadian hockey league. Anyways great stuff and thanks for the interesting videos.
my friends and I have talked about an all Canadian pro hockey league too. I think we could have 14 teams East: Leafs, Habs, Sens + Quebec City, Halifax, Hamilton, London or Windsor West: Jets, Flames, Oilers, Canucks + Saskatchewan, Victoria, Kelowna maybe
The abandoned Downsview Bombardier air field is slowly being converted into a film studio. Several films and TV shows have been filmed in there already. From what I hear each former airplane hanger is being retrofitted as sound stages. Apparently the space is so big that multiple productions can be in there at the same time
The only thing I would change would be a retractable roof. Scrap that and go with a translucent roof. There is ample evidence that most retractable roofs remain closed most of the time anyway so matches can be played under optimal conditions anyway. A new NFL style stadium would be expensive but doing this means the budget could go to other things.
Downsview is a massive opportunity for developers to make $, they don't care about housing middle and working and lower class people. Maybe the Woodbine raceway area? I used to work there. The Eglinton LRT line could be extended maybe by 2055 (sarcasm sorta), there is a dedicated UP rail line to the airport that's massive under used. There's plenty of land for parking and decent bus service to central and northern Etobicoke from the Bloor Danforth line Maybe Peel region will help out now that they've built up its nameless suburbia, Hazel wanted LRT and transit after her son made his fortune in building Peel.😅

Toronto does not care about the Argo's They won like 2-3 years ago? Nobody cares. Nobody cares. CFL is NOT a real league
Downsview Airport is NOT the answer...the ROAD infrastructure to and from the stadium SUCKS...it would be serviced by highway 401 which is the busiest highway on the continent, it sits at the north end of the Allen Expressway which is a mini highway that really does not go anywhere north or south...sure it is serviced OKAY by public transit (subway) but the road traffic in and out and around that area is a quagmire already...a new Toronto stadium would have to go outside the city, one of the suburbs around it...also the lands you are talking about to the NE (at the start of the vid) would face all sorts of environmental regulations and so putting a stadium there (I know you said no due to traffic on Steeles) would not work as they cancelled a highway back in the late 80s (Rouge River Expressway) due to environmental reasons so that location is a no for 2 reasons (and in truth the traffic reason ain't that much of an issue as it is near highway 407...my view is the feds should sell the Pickering Airport lands, built high speed rail between Pearson and Munroe (along highway 407, north of Dundas, and highway 6 to Hamilton) so that international airport traffic in the city is taken care of (Munroe is an international airport in Hamilton that is underutilized and so really only used for cargo), and then build the stadium at the Pickering Airport planned site...
Perhaps should the NFL stadium be built at Sheppard West, the Toronto Argonauts could consider defecting from the CFL to the NFL while the CFL Argos would move to either Niagara Falls or Thunder Bay both of which are in Ontario? Before any of that can happen, the LA Chargers would have to move. Also, the NFL may move the Colts, Browns, and Bills to the NFC and the Lions, Vikings, and 49ers to the AFC.
I’d say that an NFL team would thrive in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma loves their football as much as Texas does. That would make for instant rivalries with the Cowboys and Texans.
I mean...San Antonio/Austin is a FAR better location than Oklahoma is....San Antonio is larger...and Austin is larger....and Texas loves football MORE than Oklahoma...and Jerry Jones has no say in expansion (Hence Houston Texans expansion team in 2002) plus San Antonio and Austin are like a 45 min drive from each other.... And a San Antonio/Dallas rivalry or Austin/Dallas rivalry would be MUCH, MUCH more interesting than an Oklahoma Texas rivalry lol PLUS....Toronto is SOOOOOO much larger and wealthier than Oklahoma City... Toronto - 7,281,694 people (2021 census) Oklahoma City - 1,498,149 people (2020 census) I'm pretty sure Toronto is a smarter option. - 7 times larger than Oklahoma - more money in Toronto - NBA, MLB, and NHL teams already...and they are all successful
No Canadian government would contribute to this, no prospective owner can afford something approaching US$10 billion to build a stadium and buy a team, and, most important, the NFL has no desire to put a full-time team outside the United States. It's also extremely doubtful the NFL will ever expand again.
Also...the location that you think is great for an NFL-calibre stadium wouldn't work unless the Sheppard Subway was extended west from Sheppard to Sheppard West stadium, and perhaps a little further west to make the stadium easily accessible. Sheppard West as it is now would be overwhelmed, not to mention Dufferin Street and the Allen Expressway.

What a joke. Canadians never support anything. Americans fill 100,000 seats for college football. Australians fill 100,000 seat stadiums for Aussie rules football. Most countries have stadiums larger than anything we have. The NFL plays games in other countries and get packed stadiums, but when they played in Toronto they got a lot of empty seats. We can't even fill a rinky dink stadium for our own football team, which has been around for 150 years. The other main reasons it will never happen is because no one is rich enough to buy a team and build a stadium, and the prime reason is because most of the NFL's money comes from TV revenue. TV networks would not want to have their money going to a Canadian team because they would get zero revenue from advertising, thus, there is nothing in it for them. There is tailgating allowed and done at CFL games, here at BMO and well done in Hamilton every game, if it is tailgating that you think is the big draw.

TRIM THE FAT - BRING THE NFL TO CANADA!
I think we could have 14 teams
East: Leafs, Habs, Sens + Quebec City, Halifax, Hamilton, London or Windsor
West: Jets, Flames, Oilers, Canucks + Saskatchewan, Victoria, Kelowna maybe
The abandoned Downsview Bombardier air field is slowly being converted into a film studio. Several films and TV shows have been filmed in there already. From what I hear each former airplane hanger is being retrofitted as sound stages. Apparently the space is so big that multiple productions can be in there at the same time
The NFL is NOT coming to Toronto. People have been predicting it since the 1970's and it's NOT happening.
No city would build an NFL ready stadium without a team first.
Awesome idea my friend, I'm buying what your selling, it all makes sense.
There's plenty of land for parking and decent bus service to central and northern Etobicoke from the Bloor Danforth line
Maybe Peel region will help out now that they've built up its nameless suburbia, Hazel wanted LRT and transit after her son made his fortune in building Peel.😅
Great land planning... Especially, the residential housing. If it were to happen... I wonder if the Bills, would try to veto the plans?
Could be a pretty big tourist draw as it’s the only team in the country. There’s also my own selfish reasons of getting closer nfl games
I totally agree with this. Im sure the businesses around the area and Yorkdale mall will benifit alot especially during the football season.
A stadium could be build close to woodbine racetrack
Canada have you received any Snow yet?
Ontario place or the CNE grounds.
If Toronto gets a team, they should be in the NFC East
Toronto has a football team. The Argonauts. No need for boring 4 down football.
CFL is unwatchable trash
Unwatchable joke of a league.
it cannot grow, it has never grown
BUT it is the only thing saskatchewan and alberta and manitoba have to watch....so they are VERY LOUD, and they pretend like Toronto cares about the CFL..
Toronto does not care about the Argo's
They won like 2-3 years ago?
This is a great idea tbh
Why not leave the runway and teams can fly in?
Man this is what SoFi could have been (they are trying to get to this plan)
Perhaps should the NFL stadium be built at Sheppard West, the Toronto Argonauts could consider defecting from the CFL to the NFL while the CFL Argos would move to either Niagara Falls or Thunder Bay both of which are in Ontario? Before any of that can happen, the LA Chargers would have to move. Also, the NFL may move the Colts, Browns, and Bills to the NFC and the Lions, Vikings, and 49ers to the AFC.
I feel like there's no reason Toronto can't have both a CFL and NFL team. Especially since the CFL runs through the summer while the NFL doesn't.
@@CharlieND Wait? Are u saying that Toronto should have both rather than one over the other?
How about the good old Skydome?
It's been renovated to be used only for baseball now (which is probably for the best).

This is an amazing idea.
I am totally biased
Isn’t Rogers Stadium being built there?
This was made long before that news came out
@@CharlieNDgood video, I still believe TO will get an NFL team via relocation. Imagine if the Chargers ended up here!

You don’t need a plan but only concept of a plan is enough
I’d say that an NFL team would thrive in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma loves their football as much as Texas does. That would make for instant rivalries with the Cowboys and Texans.
I mean...San Antonio/Austin is a FAR better location than Oklahoma is....San Antonio is larger...and Austin is larger....and Texas loves football MORE than Oklahoma...and Jerry Jones has no say in expansion (Hence Houston Texans expansion team in 2002) plus San Antonio and Austin are like a 45 min drive from each other....
And a San Antonio/Dallas rivalry or Austin/Dallas rivalry would be MUCH, MUCH more interesting than an Oklahoma Texas rivalry lol
PLUS....Toronto is SOOOOOO much larger and wealthier than Oklahoma City...
Toronto - 7,281,694 people (2021 census)
Oklahoma City - 1,498,149 people (2020 census)
I'm pretty sure Toronto is a smarter option.
- 7 times larger than Oklahoma
- more money in Toronto
- NBA, MLB, and NHL teams already...and they are all successful
No Canadian government would contribute to this, no prospective owner can afford something approaching US$10 billion to build a stadium and buy a team, and, most important, the NFL has no desire to put a full-time team outside the United States. It's also extremely doubtful the NFL will ever expand again.
If Toronto gets a team than Orlando and we already got an nfl ready with some renovations.
You forgot to include the team’s practice facilities.
God I'd love this!
Selfishly I want the Toronto Argonauts to leave the CFL(majority don't care about them in the CFL anyways) and join the NFL!
They're the only successful sports franchise in this city.

it will never happen with the exchange rate not enough fans could afford the tickets. And the entire concept would be in US dollars.
MLB, NBA, and NHL games not an issue for Ontarians. Do you know how much corporate money is in this town?
Heck, think bigger It's enough space to become pro sports centralized village
I don’t know about that
The SkyDome isn't big enough? We had the SARS music concert at Downsview Airport. A half million people attended. I took my children. Is that big enough?
With the recent renovations, it wouldn't even be able to fit an NFL football field.
It needs to go BEFORE you get to Toronto coming from Windsor... Windsor, Chatham, London, Woodstock alone are 2 Million people who WILL drive 2-4 hours for a game.... NFL is 8 games a year...SITE WILL NOT MATTER...as long as traffic is smooth. Every Hotel would add a shuttle bus if this happened as well around the YYZ airport.
I think the CFL killed any interest in football in Toronto. Building a billion dollar stadium for 10 games a season doesn't seem that smart.
Not gonna happen. The CFL is great. Canadians should watch it more. Cause we’re never getting an NFL team.
Great??? then why is attendance so bad--and really bad. When a game is broadcast they won't even scan the stadium because of all the empty seats
@@bufnyfan1 the attendance is “bad” because of people like you. We’re never getting an NFL team, so be a patriot and enjoy the game we have.

I’ve read somewhere that there is a policy by the Canadian government or the Argos franchise that prevents an NFL team ever being an official team in Toronto. This safeguard the Canadian Football League from American NFL expansion in Canada?
We were fed this baloney that once the Argos left Rogers Center for a more intimate stadium at BMO Field their attendance would dramatically increase. Well...that didn't happen. Not in the least. Toronto wants a MAJOR league team, not some CFL team that nobody cares about.

The problem is that the CFL doesn't have the same level of talent that the NFL does. An NFL team could possibly increase said attendance. But also it could still end up less popular than the NHL there.
@RedWingsninetyone I'm from Toronto dude. Talent is the excuse everyone uses. Attendance is low for the CFL team because people in Toronto always want American attention. The talent is the same pool of guys. CFL is professional football. Yes, guys who don't make an NFL team play in the CFL buts it's not really a developmental league. It's not minor league baseball.

Hey Mr MEXICO go back to guadalajara focus on your own football league!
