    Great video of car camping in the Niro sir! I got my Niro ev specifically for car camping! With the battery-- I'm able to have ac/heat the whole time with only an 8% usage of the battery for over 8 hrs inside!
    Looking forward to the upcoming 2023 Niro ev with Vehicle 2 Load! Will be great to be able to use the car's battery to power the whole campsite! Game changing!

    Thanks for making this video. I’ve been looking to do the same thing.

    Thanks for the details. Would like even more detail, like specifics of how the stove, food, cook-gear, power-pack, fan, sleeping bag & pad are stored. How is the rear of the sleeping-platform supported (other than the optional boxes under it).
    My 2018 Niro PHEV's 12-v battery dies quickly if any door/hatch is left open 2 hours. Left me stranded three times, once solo camping off grid. Dealer replaced battery to no avail. Web says it is a common issue, and unlike HV, 2018 PHEV has no reset button. In some youtube vids about "parasitic battery drain" (not for this issue nor this vehicle) I have seen people trip the latches to fool the module into thinking doors are shut while monitoring the battery drain at the fuse box. I will try that... when my Niro gets back from the dealer after 6+ week wait. "Hybrid Control" warning came on 2 months after 5-year coverage expired. That's right, "hybrid drive" is not part of the "drive train" covered for 10 years. :-(

      Everything except the bedding and the battery charger are stored in the grey bins. The bedding just stays rolled up in either the back seats or hatch. The wooden platform rests one edge on the headrest once the seat is folded down. The other side is suspended via a cord that is looped over the front seat.
      I have used the latch trick to make the car think the doors are shut and it worked fine to get the lights off. From what I understand some battery draining happens automatically because the key is in constant communication with the car when they are in proximity, so it drains the battery.

    i've taken a niro for years to festivals so i'll let you guys know now: always close all the doors. The doors will drain the small battery so fast.

      Just happened to us this past weekend. That 12v reset button fixed us right up.

    Hi, how did you make the lower part of the trunk flat for sleeping? Since the seats don't lay completely flat

    • @RideorDieGaM
      @RideorDieGaM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I didn't. With the two inch mattress I don't feel it at all. Most of my body is on the rear seat. I'm not small and I'm about the maximum height to fit back there and I've never even noticed it.

    Do you happen to know offhand what the size of those storage bins beneath the plywood are?

    Are you able to run the air conditioner or does the engine keep starting all night long? If so, how long can you run on AC before the engine tries to recharge the batteries?

    • @RideorDieGaM
      @RideorDieGaM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't do this but from what I understand the battery needs to recharge about every half an hour so the engine does start periodically for a few minutes. I've already been sitting in the car while it idles and this has happened. With the cost of gas I much prefer a battery pack and a fan.

    I have a kia nero hybrid 2023 I use it to go winter car camping in the mountains with friends and the thing thats annoying is that if i put it in nuteral with the car engine on to blast the heating all night the engine starts and wakes me up after 5 mins then turns itself back off wich disrupts my sleep. Is there away around this so i can have the heating on without being disrupted every 5 mins be much better if the engine came on every hour instead of 5 mins. I put the car in eco mode is there something i can do to avoid it coming on so frequently.

      This is a pretty common issue I hear particularly from Prius drivers but I was under the impression this happens only once an hour. Could be that you are winding the battery down with all the climbing so the battery is drained already and has to top up more. I personally don’t run the car at night so I don’t have any advice but I just use a low temp sleeping bag. A lot of people use a low wattage electric throw blanket over them that they run off a generator. You might want to ask in the Kia niro subreddit if there are any suggestions to cut power consumption.

      On Prius you can push both pedals and charge your battery so it won't start every 15 minutes.

    Does the ia niro have a "camp mode" or something similar that lets you run the A/C at night?

    • @RideorDieGaM
      @RideorDieGaM  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No but from what I understand you can just run the car all night and run the AC. People do that a lot with the prius and it supposedly uses about a quarter of a tank of gas.

      Sorry for the late response. I’m sure you can car camp but I would imagine battery drain is much more of an issue. The HEV models have a 12v button that can jump the regular battery off the hybrid battery if it gets drained, which has happened to us. So I would try putting a carabiner in the rear hatch latch to make it think the trunk is closed so it turns off the interior lights.

      Sorry for the late response but we did just try with two people and it was fine. A little awkward getting in and out.
