Did you clean the MAF sensor? High idle is usually a vacuum leak, dirty IAC valve, or the throttle cable is not released all the way when at idle. The ticking from the charcoal canister is the purge valve. That is normal operation.

@@jimrossabrena7955 it’s been so long I can’t recall. I had flipped the throttle body gasket around on a reinstall and that left a gap at the bottom and a huge vacuum leak that was causing all kinds of misfires.

No I have not, I just pulled a vapor canister off of a 98 V6 4 runner, thought I might swap it and see if it goes away. I would be curious if the valve closes and opens under certain conditions or if we have an electrical issue. I will keep you posted once I figure it out.

I change the vapor canister but it did not fix it

Did you remove the idle air control valve to clean & test it? Would also need a new rubber O-ring type gasket to re-install it. A dirty/malfunctioning/leaking idle air control valve will cause high idle. If ya addressed this & it still had a high idle, did ya ever figure it out? Curious to know.
