Man, working on this vid was such a blast! It was like a blast to the past with the 2012-2013 speedrunning boom on Twitch, the crazy progression of Ocarina of Time, and the Mario Odyssey craze, back when Shaeden was completely dominating the game! Good times man. Good times.... i'm so glad I got to share the story of such a legend! Thanks again to Lowest Percent for this opportunity!

I love OoT glitch history. They knew how to do wrong warps for a long time as a cutscene skip but they never thought to try it outside the one dungeon they used it. They just, forgot.
In those scenarios I just think about that one person, who maybe had that thought along the road but discarded it due to the trick beeing so old that "probably someone else looked deeper into this already"
It is funny how thinking outside the box sometimes yields insane results in speedrunning. SRM was technically first documented in 2007 but is only being utilized now.

he'd always name his splits seemingly odd things but the first letter of each one spelled out something.
I was forced to be a mod in his twitch chat, by a bet I never made. Shaeden's a pretty cool guy. One thing this video didn't talk about was how he influenced the any% for BotW as well. He worked with Ikkitrix to help develop strats and help him get WR which he did. That's also where I first met him.

I'm here because of Pint's video about speedrunning Kugane Tower in FF14, but it really makes me like to think that Psydoyks is still out there speedrunning, and breaking records, even if only a few people are aware that it's him, because he changes his monikers.
That's my thought as well.
He also came back to obliterate that record less than a day after the pint vid lol
It's a very safe bet. He seemed to love the speedrunning but hate the comparisons and attention. I'd be curious to see how many records he has right now that no one knows.
Pydoyks is like the avatar he disappeared when speedruning was starting to gain traction again, but never forgotten for his mastery of his craft

Just got here from Pint's video, what Pydoyks did in FF14 as Em0_oticon is truly amazing, he breaks new record and then disappear again, Legend!!
This is one of the weird quirks of the internet. Someone might "mysteriously disappear" in the eyes of the lurkers, but to them, they might have just stopped browsing the internet much, found a nice job and founded a family. Maybe they live in a part of the world that doesn't have the infrastructure(or had it destroyed through internal war/coups/shady shit or being unable to afford medical bills) for always online yet, so they keep speedrunning OOT offline, reaching times that are thought impossible on the live internet.
It is not for us to know.
Or, just as possible, they just don't comment on anything or use social media. So it seems like someone disappeared but in reality they just don't interact but still browse around. That's why things like internet mysteries where redditors disappear seem weightless because you could also just use a different account or just never post/comment.

Yoooo pydoyks was the only mod in Ikkitrix's chat back in 2017 when BOTW speedrunning was taking off. He pretty much made the entire run but never ran it. He was actually insane at finding stuff
i kinda thought this channel was going to be entirely about low% runs, but a generalist talk about speedrunners and stories in general seems even better. I like the direction!
I sort of still want a channel that's just low% runs, but this is good too!

I was led to believe this was going to be a tale of a speedrunning titan's mysterious disappearance, but it turns out he's just a guy who does some runs then moves on to do other things.
Yeah, I was kinda worried that this was going to have a much more tragic ending than it actually did.

A speedrunner who I like who mysteriously disappeared is SwordlessLink. He was actually pretty skilled too.

Thank you for covering this. Pydo is a legend and this video did him justice. You described his humility and stoicism very well, I think it's the best possible speedrun mindset and it's also really funny (gets 19:05, "alright imma do another run" and resets without watching credits).
Back in 2011/2012, OoT was much more about racing and less about optimizing movement and grinding runs to perfection. This overall community mindset slowly shifted, and by 2015, optimized movement and grinding for PBs was the norm for most players. Pydo was incredibly influential in this, he singlehandedly pushed OoT movement further than anyone else. (Later runners perfected it more, but no one made as much progress in movement optimization as Pydo.)
Also, any% in 21:07 is one of Pydo's most underappreciated runs. It doesn't look like it stands out in the WR history because Gohma clip was found right after, but 21:07 was very optimized for its time. He even did 1 backflip OI on the wrong warp which is ridiculous.

I'm similar. Actually watching speedruns gives me a heck of a headache, but learning how everything works and about the things that have gone on is interesting.

he's probably the guy I miss the most in all of speedrunning. it's like he never cared if some strats weren't feasible for runs, he went "this saves time, I'll do it" and made the whole community adapt, that was kinda stuck in the "not RTA viable" mindset. This guy just had an insane approach to optimizing movement in OoT and SMO, and just looking at those 2 games you really felt that leap in gameplay across the competition. Absolutely loved the chill streams back in the day, always felt like we people in chat were the only people actually nervous during insane runs.

Back in the day, if you wanted to always see an impressive run, he was a must-watch if you enjoyed OOT, or later SMO. So consistent that you didn’t want to miss a stream, lest you missed the run of the year
legends say he will appear when we need him most. especially if what we need him for is speedrunning. and then he goes into speedrunner hybernation
He actually just keeps changing names, doesn't show any presence and just does runs out of joy without trying to hook any fame.
Actual Legend, doing runs for joy, on the side destroying everyone and then vanishes into a new account and category.

It's bizarre seeing Pydoyks being talked about so much, I knew him from a small indie RPG game discord server that he would come and talk now and then. He went by Emo in there, the only reason I knew he was Pydoyks was because of the names he used on the rogue like game mode score leaderboard. He's a really cool dude and an incredible gaming talent, he very much has the "done once the interest is gone" attitude lol.
Shaeden is pretty much the perfect example of the "old sage" stereotype. He's someone who'd, if he was let's say in a cheesy movie about crusaders, walk into a temple, silently challenge the local champion, completely wreck them, give a satisfied nod and then walk out without any fanfair.

This man is a pure natural. I have been watching him ever since I started to watch speedruns back in 2012 when he appeared and was really happy when he returned for Odyssey and sad when he left again. This man is for me the definition of skill in speedrunning and destroyed and dwarfed times of other runners.
This was an extremely well made video, the music direction especially was incredible!!
The determination, dedication and how stoic he is. It's extreme he only cares about improving him self but he also knows when to stop.

Good watch! One of the things that was forgotten, was that he never actually cared enough to even submit his own runs. He dominated the game whilst not caring about the leaderboards.
Pydo apparition and groundbreaking records are just as good as your channel's growth and presence in the community.

i don't really agree with that assumption. some people, like me, just don't like to put anything out until they think it's right. with speedrunning, that could mean they only submit when they a) have motivation to speedrun something and b) put out a really good run
there was a person who i don't remember the name of who did something similar with pokemon red and blue. they came out of nowhere with a huge "walkthrough for speedrunning" kind of thing where it was also the world record. shaeden kind of reminds me of that.
so yeah, i don't think just because they got a world record from out of nowhere in something means they're always speedrunning. they probably only want to speedrun stuff when they have motivation/are having fun

It's for Final Fantasy XIV. He beat a record there several years ago using that channel so it existed for awhile now. But couple months ago this one TH-camr made a video about how it took him almost an entire year to beat Em0_Oticon record, only for Em0_Oticon to come back and beat his new record by several seconds within only a single day then just disappears again. Lol XD
