The saddest thing about R2 and Anakin is that when he stopped to check on Padme after killing the Jedi at the temple, R2 and 3PO are talking. In the novelization, 3PO asks R2 about Anakin and R2 responds to him "I don't know, he doesn't talk to me anymore." That combined with him getting left by Anakin on Mustafar traumatized him. Thats why in V, when Luke tells R2 to stay with the ship on Dagobah, he immediately jumps out, thus falling in the swamp. The last time he stayed with the ship, his master left him.
@@lorenzor7993 3po did, r2 did not. Bail on the film specifically says “Im placing these two in your care, have the protocol droids mind wiped.” “What!? -3po” *R2 beeps snickering*
34:54 Anakin and Vader are almost like 2 different personalities. Also, when a force user goes the dark side, like Anakin here, it can be harder for them to turn away from the dark side again, but it's absolutely possible. Vader speaks of Anakin in 3rd person. I'd say, because Vader wants to be detatched from "weak" Anakin (as Vader calls him) as much as possible.
Yep falling to the dark side is like being corrupted, imagine only being driven by your worst emotions, having nothing in your mind but pain, hatred, tragedy
@Dayspring Yes, Anakin and Vader are not literally seperate personalities and I didn't mean to imply that. I'd say Vader tries to make it seem that way. With "different personality" I mainly meant that all of his caring about his friends parts are gone as Vader and Anakin was all about that. In that regard they were very different.
Sort of but not really. When Anakin is first turned to the Dark Side and slaughtered all the Jedi and Separatists he is still himself, all be it conflicted. Which is the reason he didn't have Sith eyes when killing the Jedi or Fighting Obi-Wan because he didn't really deep down want to fight them, but when he was slaughtering the Separatists he did have the Sith eyes because he wanted to kill them. After losing to Obi-Wan and being told his wife is dead and that it was his fault he lost himself in that very moment, he didn't want to believe he was Anakin anymore so he chose to reject that he even was Anakin as a coping mechanism. For 20 years he would remain in this coping state just enforcing fear and terror as Palpatine who manipulated him forced him to do his bidding, he deep down hated him but wasn't strong enough to overthrow him or so he didn't think. It wasn't till he realized he had a Son that he became *conflicted* again. Basically Anakin/Vader are basically the same personality, Anakin hated himself that much that he chose to reject his own personality in favour of his hatred for everyone and himself.
44:46 The Sith are somewhat selfless in that sense. As you correctly guessed, it is the Sith way to knowingly train one's own future murderer. Strength through conflict is basically the core of Sith philosophy. Since the inception of the Rule of Two the apprentice must at some point kill his master to become the new master himself.
This is one of my favorite movies so I love watching reaction videos of people appreciating it for the first time but I find it amazing how so few people get the Sith philosophy right.
Palpatine was giving Luke options of who to kill between him and Vader. He knew Luke going to the darkside would end the Jedi once and for all. For the Sith, it's all about the larger picture of the darkside winning
not exactly, yes there's consensus which would survive but they all are concerned about survival. either the master dies or the apprentice, we all saw how swiftly Dooku was discarded
Yeah...Qui Gonn taught Obi Wan to become a force ghost. That´s why he told Vader in episode IV: "if you strike me down, I´ll become more powerful that you can possibly imagine".
@@NiaMakiReactsAnakin's descent into darkness was well portrayed. Because some Jedi never completely loved him, didn't respect him, didn't trust him, didn't take him seriously and even despised him. As a child before Obi-Wan started teaching him, he was hated and psychologically bullied by other children "Anakin is a slave to his feelings" and that was only because of envy because he was much more gifted and skilled than them. And many other things and sufferings he and his padawan, Ashoka Tano, the Jedi like to cause. Yoda during the Clone Wars, he met the spirit of Darth Bane in Sitt's tomb, which is created by the rule of two. And later in his visions he saw Anakin becoming Darth Vader and didn't do anything about it because I thought it wasn't worth it. Anakin was a slave all his life - Tatuine, Jedi, Love, Dark Side. He became a father figure to Qui-gon Jinn, during his stay in the temple he was psychologically bullied and called by others "Anakin slaves to his own feelings", he lost his mother, the Jedi never married him all the time and without proper evidence he accused Ashoka and caused her to leave and finally he was afraid of losing Padmé. The only and worst support given the events was Palpatine who was a fatherly substitute for Anakin from the beginning. When he used Mace Windu's hand and after killing the Jedi he was already in the dark as the dark side itself showed him to the planet Mortis The One Son. On Mustafar, Padme almost got him from the dark side, but Obi-Wan discovered him and screwed it up. Anakin "Vader" built his castle on Mustafar and thanks to the two sbosobs he tried to revive Padmé but he could not see it due to the fact that Luke and Leya were already born, they were the only ones preventing it with their existence. Too bad he didn't find "Word between Wolrds" on the planet Lothal. He would create an alternate Reality or go through all of history. ;) You have to find out about the lost 20 Jedi like Count Dooku, about the fates of Jedi with the ability to see the future, young apprentices who were not taken by any Jedi masters to learn, who showed little talent for the force and were not shown to the temple which in some cases was quite drastic, . .. Blinded by ego, aronance, pride, absolute help to people and not following the path of forces. Honor to the exceptions and one of the true Jedi was Master Fey. The Jedi and the Fallen Jedi (Sith) have betrayed the memory and message of their common ancestors of the Je'daii Order by their actions and the endless battles of their Civil War. 😊 May the force be with you. And may you lead the force. 🖐️
Fun fact, the actors for Anakin and Obi-wan trained so hard that by the time that the lightsaber battle was filmed, it was shown at real speed. It didn't have to be sped up at all. They really were fighting that fast!!
Master Ki-Adi Mundi, the one with the large forehead, was on a hologram in the council meeting where Anakin was accepted onto the council but not granted the rank of master. Master Mundi was, in fact, only a knight when he was accepted onto the council, and became a master later on. So while Anakin was shouting about how outrageous and unfair it was, Mundi was sitting there thinking, “Bruh, I am right here!” 😅
At the same time he was the only Jedi allowed to have wife and kids, so I'm sure Anakin despised him... especially from reading about how rude Mundi was
45:22 There is a theory which says that Palpatine also drained Padme's lifeforce to keep Vader alive, so basically Anakin and Padme died for Vaders creation.
Palpatine's capture was a Jedi Trap. Dooku played along, with Palpatine being the bait. He fully believed that the trap was for Skywalker. He only realised mid-duel with Anakin, that HE was the target of the trap. Sidious had promised him a way to end the war, act like he'd been deceived, and renounce the confederacy etc. He thought the trap was for Sidious to test and turn Anakin, to become the General in a new Sith army. So he was genuinely shocked by the end. At the start of the duel, he was playing with Kenobi and Skywalker, they started mixing shit up on him, and he gradually found himself barely able to stay alive. Only a few people know Palpatine is also Darth Sidious. Count Dooku knows, and is in full league with him. Between the two of them, they are playing the roles of the leaders of BOTH sides in the war. A handful of Palpatine's advisors know, as does Tarkin and some who get high positions in the new Empire. None of the Separatist Council know. They all think it's two different people. So when Grevious decides to just let Palpatine die in the wreckage, he has NO CLUE, it's actually his boss Darth Sidious. The Clone War itself is the revenge of the Sith. It pulls the Jedi into a war they don't want, and forces them to become soldiers. It thins the number of Jedi right down, so that when the time is right, there's a quick coup.
I am not sure about the Separatist Council not knowing (Grievous is actually not part of the council, just a stooge they crippled and gave a new body to lead the army). Nute pretty much says that sidious' plan unfolded as he had promised...after the war was over and Jedi were destroyed. And in exchange for playing their part Sidious would give them peace....that's why they were shocked Anakin wiped them out.
3:35 What is so special about R2D2 is that he has never had a single memory wipe/reboot in his entire existence; therefore, his knowledge is vast and skills are deep. (As far as I understand)
He is also at the forefront of the most pivotal galactic events. He had a front row seat to anakins fall. Not to mentions he has had a habit of being in the right place at the right time and his actions yave, in turn, shaped the galaxy. How many times did he save anakin, Obi wan and Luke?
Revenge Of The Sith is my absolute favorite out of the prequels. The double climactic lightsaber duel that takes place toward the end of the movie between Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar and Yoda and Emperor Palpatine on Coruscant in the Senate chamber are top notch across the board. Musical score, fight choreography, visual effects, audio effects and emotional impact. I give them all an A+.
Also, it isn't stated, but the clones have chips implanted in their brains. So, when Sidious says "Execute order 66", it switches on the chip that the Clones cannot resist, having them kill their Jedi comrades.
It’s a different time though. When this movie was made, the clones knew from the beginning that one day they would turn on the Jedi. It kept this narrative until season 6 of clones wars
@Kenobi The clones are trained at birth with each order being memorized in their training. Order 65 is an order turning on the chancellor. Clones are basically programmed to be able to turn on the Republic and their own friends. 501st trooper Tup was the first to suffer from a malfunctioning chip, those chips basically made them forget
@@kenobi894 idk. I think clones that are made to follow every order and obey would have some major mental problems if they knew about the Orders. The chip probably serves as a brain pacer to keep them from going crazy and having nightmares or telling their jedi comrades about the order.
@@lotuslife3239 but see that’s why I like the old narrative. It was darker, more.. depressing. Knowing they’d eventually turn on their generals and friends. Going through those mental battles and anguish afterwards. It was more bleak and I enjoyed the darker tone. “We all knew what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the ship, not on the flight to coruscant, and not when we marched into the Jedi temple, not a word…”
Anakin was assigned to Padme for protection duties regularly during the war. Much like he and Obi-wan was in the start of the 2nd movie. Which made sense since she knew and trusted them, and she was frequently targetted.
One of the great things about Episode 3 is seeing how everyone is pushing Anakin, he can't deal with everything that is being pushed onto him while wanting more responsibility. He's got a Child on the way, he's on the Council, annoyed that he's not a Master, his friendship with Chancellor Palpatine is also putting a strain on people such as Padme asking him to put a motion to Palpatine and such
I think.. If Mace had said something different he may have been okay with letting Palpentine go. But.. Mace says almost the exact same thing Palpentine said about Dooku "he's too dangerous to live".... And to me, in that moment, Jedi and Sith didn't seem that different to Anakin, so why not choose the one who had the possibility of saving your wife? Mace Windu had as much to do with Anakin becoming Vader as Palpentine I always thought
@@CrazeeAdam his mind was made up long before that moment. He might have used that to justify in his mind what he was about to do, but his mind was made up. He knew his facade was about to crumble and all his lies and deceptions would be exposed. Padme: 'this baby will change our lives. You will be expelled from the Jedi order'. Anikan realized he was about to lose the power and prestige (he craved so much) that came with being a Jedi. Even worse, in his mind, the council, the other Jedi, the general public, everyone would see him as the liar and fraud that he was. Him taking offense by another Jedi breaking the code is hilarious. The code never meant much to him. He constantly broke, ignored, diffide, however you choose to describe it, the code. So to believe anything Mace said or did had any affect on Anikan's actions is silly. And let's not forget that Mace had tried twice already, once in front of Anikan, to arrest Sidious to no avail as Sidious continued to push it. Mace realized the only way to stop him was to kill him. The last thing Anikan says to Windu before intervening was "I need him". This one line revealed Anikan's true motivation and intention. The only Jedi that contributed to Anikan's downfall is Qui Gon. It was he that separated Anikan from his mother. A decision that lead to Anikan's guilt, anger and regret about leaving her. The trip to Coruscant allowed Anikan to develop deep feelings for Padme. It was Qui Gon that filled Anikan's head about being the chosen one planting the seeds for his arrogance and entitlement to grow. He goes against the council in front of Anikan. He guilts Konobi into promising to train Anikan knowing full well that Obi-Wan was against Anikan being trained. These actions and choices by Qui Gon directly contributed to Anikan's downfall. Those few words by Mace didn't matter.
Anakin needed Palpatine, he didn’t need Mace. Also if you look at it logically who would you rather save 1. Your mentor and father figure that’s always supported you since you were 9 that is saying he can save your wife or 2. The Jedi master who’s been an absolute ass to you for your entire life, who’s always complaining about how reckless you are but is now standing in front of you about to break the Jedi code which he held so dear to him
@@ronyrontana9735 while the code never meant much to Anakin he realised that he did something wrong when he killed dooku, I don’t believe he was offended by Mace breaking the code in and of itself and that he was more so annoyed at how Mace was always complaining about Anakin being reckless and breaking the code and that now he was showing how hypocritical he was by breaking the code himself.
To be fair, Yoda's advice about letting go of attachment and rejoicing in those who become one with the Force was given without the context that Anakin was worried about his secret wife. I always thought that Yoda would've been less non-chalant if he knew the whole deal.
@@lirpa2300 But in Star Wars Legends Luke’s new Jedi Order allows Jedi to get married and have children? In Luke’s new Order Jedi are taught to regulate their feelings instead of suppressing them the way that the previous Order did. Also, the Jedi willingly allowed Palpatine to have access to Anakin for years, why is that? The previous Jedi Order became too dogmatic, arrogant, and too detached from others.
@@alistairgrey5089 In the novelization, he assumed Anakin spoke of Obi Wan dying. And yes, Yoda was technically right - but inflexible. And there's more than one way to learn the Force.
@@cap8588 And of fear, yes. On the other hand, the Dark Side is natural, seemingly, so learning to manage it is implied to be crucial. Not all can be taught precisely the same lessons the same way, however.
Palpatine's appearance actually changed no because of being hit by his own Force Lightning, but because he was exerting so much energy into trying to kill Mace Windu that he lost the ability to maintain his false visage. Totally embracing the Dark Side causes your body to become corrupted and twisted, and so he was using the Dark Side to keep himself looking normal, hiding his yellowing eyes and deforming features.
I don’t think that’s canon anymore. I think just in general I read the lightning bouncing back onto his face, made the bone and tissue in his face/head soft.
Everyone is always surprised by the light saber amputations when it's a common real life sword fighting technique. The easiest way to disarm an opponent is to remove the hand holding the weapon. This is not a Star Wars thing. It's a real life melee combat thing. My favorite line in all the movies is when Palpatine told Anakin to leave Obi to die. Anakin replied "His fate will be the same as ours". Well, it was. All three died on a Death Star and all three were technically killed by Anakin/Vader. Vader struck Obi-Wan down. Vader threw Palpatine in the reactor. And Vader put himself in the Force lightning to save Luke.
A cool thing edited from your review, Anakin says that "His [Obi-wan] fate will be the same as ours." All of them die on a Death Star. Obi-wan in the first and Darth Vader and Palpatine on the second. edit - Three apprentices in about 35 years isn't a lot. Darth Maul died when Anakin was 9 (Maul was recruited from a very young age and was 22 when Obi-wan defeated him at Naboo), Dooku was recruited shortly after and lasted over a decade until Vader.
39:49, 44:47 The rule of 2 which the sith often follow (since it was created) says that the master trains the apprentice until the apprentice is more powerful and kills the master. And then the cycle repeats. The goal is that the remaining sith becomes more powerful than the last and so they grow stronger and stronger over time. If Vader wouldn't have gotten the suit and his injuries, then what Palpatine said here would have become reality most likely.
One of the saddest bits for me was Aayla Secura (the Twi'lek Jedi) when she sees her clones raise their guns, she turns to see what danger they spotted, not even igniting her lightsaber. She trusted her men so much she never considered in the moment they were about to shoot her.
We recommend you watch the clone wars as well (in chronological order, the list is easy to find). 3 movies really wasn't enough to tell the whole story of that era. The clone wars is really the story George Lucas wanted to tell. It is legitimately one of the best pieces of media in the Star wars franchise and it tells a lot of important lore that will be brought up again in the later shows.
45:00 Nia, it is the rule of two for the Sith: A master and an apprentice. Count Dooku was Palpatine's apprentice and was operating on the Separatist's side, but he always had his eye on Anakin because of his potential. He waited for the council to make their move and then he used his "friendship" with Anakin to accelerate his apprenticeship. Palpatine always had the upper hand by his darkside cloud and power over the Senate.
by the way, palpatine made sure to not give anakin anesthesia so he would feel the pain while being in surgery and made his vader suit to be painful to be in, he could have easily upgraded the vader suit but he didnt want to so that anakin wouldnt be strong enough to betray him.
Plans that work even when they fail are what is known as a "Xanatos Gambit" and doing so in a rapid fire super complex multi-threaded manner is called "Xanatos Speed Chess" and Palpatine is extremely adept at both.
I am so glad people still remember that trope as the ‘Xanatos Gambit.’ I honestly remember Johnathan Frakes more fondly for that character in Gargoyles than for Riker in TNG. No shade on TNG, though…
@@NiaMakiReacts if you do watch it, just note that when it was originally made, the first season was made of kids and was meant to get more mature for the audience. So the first 3 seasons are very kiddish, but gets better as it goes. But we’ll worth the watch. Then after that, you can watch “Tales of the Jedi.” It adds in even more context to the stories.
44:47 in the original Canon legends, the “Dark Empire” story to be specific, it is revealed that Palpatine has died before and found a way to keep his consciousness alive after death by transferring himself into clones of himself, he’s able to live again. The problem is that he is so strong in the force he’s burning the clones out after a short time. The point that he wants a stronger apprentice is that when it finally comes to killing him if he has an apprentice that is truly stronger than him, he’ll take their body, allowing himself to live even longer than in any clone body he could produce. The way we find this out is that after the second death stars destruction Luke comes across him, and he reveals that it took him years to get to a clone body.

10:51 "But didn't L- Leia say that she remembered her mom as a _baby?"_ Ah. Yes she did. There was a _lot_ about her backstory that was not worked _out,_ at that point.
what many dont know is that the emperor had vaders suit constructed to keep him in constant pain, limit his movement and abilities. the suit kept vader alive, but also limited him down to a level where he wasnt a danger to palpatine anymore.
@@generaltank1426 Vader was hardly little above average though. He still was an extraordinarily killing machine, clearly superior to any Jedi of the prequel save Yoda maybe
Yes, he was put into that suit dry, no bacta tank to try to heal him up even a little bit. It also acts as a hyperbaric chamber so he can breathe thanks to his lungs being scorched in that fight.

Yes, Palpatine can plant false visions into Anikan's head. As dark as Anikan's fall is, the movies only show part of why he fell so hard. The Clone Wars series will fill in the blanks.
50:30 you can hear the heartbeat of when Anakin dies and then stops when the mask goes on and then starts beating again when Darth Vader starts breathing signifying the death of Anakin and the Birth of Vader

Interesting tidbit from the Episode III Novelization (Book version of the movie): Part of why Anakin was so quick to think Padme had betrayed him is because of one of Palpatine's manipulation off screen. See, Padme had joined a group called "The Delegation of 2000", which was a group of Senators who called for Palpatine to relinquish his emergency powers back to the Senate once the war was over. Initially, Anakin didn't know that Padme was a member until Palpatine told him, which is what sparks the argument we see in which Anakin accuses her of sounding like a Separatist. Palpatine also tells him "The worst betrayals are from those closest to us." Which is something that naws at Anakin throughout his rampage on Mustafar. Also, just before Padme arrives, Palpatine tells Anakin/Vader that he is in danger, which causes Anakin to be suspicious. When Padme brings up Obi-Wan, Anakin's thoughts immediately go to his master's warnings and he begins to think that Padme is trying to Assassinate him. Thus, when he sees Obi-Wan on her ship, he immediately flies into a rage and lashes out at her. Some of this is shown through deleted scenes, but I highly recommend reading the novelization. It gives a great insight on what Anakin was thinking and WHY he felt this was the only way. Edit: On another note, you aren't wrong that Qui-Gon would've been the better master for Anakin. Both Lucas and Dave Filoni have stated that the iconic "Duel of the Fates" was over Anakin's fate, and the Jedi lost when Qui-Gon was killed. And yes, the reason Padme still looked pregnant was to convince everyone, including Vader and the Emperor, that the babies had died along with Padme. It ended up cementing Anakin as Vader because he no longer had any reason to live beyond revenge and self-loathing.
I see, yeah I feel like I more background info would definitely help, I just started clone wars so I hope that also fills in some gaps. Thanks so much for the background info though!
Lucas has not said the "duel of the fates" was over anakin. only filoni has and it is bunk. Filoni doesn't know anything about the continuity or canon (which is why he frequently messes it up...including his own continuity). Qui-Gon also wouldn't have made any difference. He was on record saying he couldn't save anakin's mother and was unwilling to break rules to do it. He also warned anakin being a jedi was a tough life not many can do. The reality is that Anakin would have still been in love with padme, still would fear losing her, still would have lost his mother and palpatine still would have twisted him...and if it didn't work...well Order 66 wipes everyone out anyway. Another thing to contemplate, who knows how Dooku would have influenced Qui-Gon which would have influenced anakin. The actual FUN FACT about "Duel of the Fates" is that the music track entitled that was scored for the end credits NOT for any portion of the film, but Lucas liked it and Williams used various cues with pieces of that track in it for scenes....including the film climax. Finally, I don't recall any moment where Palpatine warns Anakin about Padme before she arrives on Mustafar...in fact he didn't know anything about what was going on there until after he concluded fighting Yoda. But I have not read the novel in very long and needs to be taken with a grain of salt in every area it deviates from the movie since it A) Uses a script that was completed but was NOT the final shooting script (The script changed literally daily based on Lucas' whims...there were a great many things excised and changed on the day of shooting) because Stover needed to write his novel months in advance of release. B) Stover has to weave in a TON of artistic license to flesh out a bare bones script to novel length. Basically a lot of the "insight" is just him adding his own views and flavor to it. Oh and the novel cut out a huge chunk of the movie out....mostly Yoda's stuff.
16:06 There is a book about Plagueis and Palpatine. Plagueis was still alife during Episode I and helped Palpatine become chancellor. I think on the night Palpatine became chancellor, he killed Plagueis.
In reference to Anikin's visions of Padme's death, a wise tortoise once said, "One often meets his destiny on the path he takes to avoid it!" Kudos to those who know! 😉 Anikin's focus on saving Padme actually led to the circumstances that lead to her dying. I think it's time for some comedies Nia! Maybe the animated trilogy Kung Fu Panda?
Back in the old days when there where many sith they would always eventually start fighting eachother for power so after the order was almost completley wiped out one of the last survivors decided to just have two sith at a time so that they could secretly work in the shadows to one day get revenge on the jedi. Having the apprentice kill the master is like the final test because if you succseede then you have proven that you don't need them anymore and if you fail then you get killed because you werent ready. This way the sith would become stronger every time at least in theory.
The scene on the balcony with padme shows that R2 speeks with C3PO who says "well, he's under a lot of stress" and played R2 down like he's always doing with him. So you can assume that R2 is kind of furious about Anakin Also Anakin told R2 on Mustafar to stay at his ship. IN IV V VI R2 kind of refusing orders from his masters and it's because the last time he did, his master never came back. I also love the fact that Padmes last words before she died were "There is still good in him" And Vaders (at this point Anakin again) last words were "you were right"
In the novelisation we actually get an insight into r2s thoughts through 3pos, translator. He's not angry, he's confused, says anakin has completely stopped talking to him. When told of the 'jedi rebellion' and windus assassination attempt R2 says that that doesn't seem right, the variables simply didn't add. R2 could tell things weren't right but having no knowledge of the force they didn't know anakin had fallen. He recorded padmes death for archives and years later would show Luke, but I can just imagine r2 going over and over what happened wondering where he went wrong. Where he failed.
@@Whoami691 I love that somewhere there is an explanation to everything. Furious wasnt the correct word, sry for that. But thanks for your input. really nice :)
Theory suggests that Padme did not lose the will to live. But rather Palpatine used Padme and Anakin's connection to siphon her life force into Anakin to keep him alive. Which killed her because of the dual trauma of childbirth and being choked out. (Though since Palpatine knew she was dead, he probably meant to kill her. And likely assumed he got her children too.) Padme's last breath corresponds with Darth Vader's first breath.
@@lirpa2300 It's not Palpatine's power per se, but it is what happened in essence, it was enabled by the dark side which is parasitic on the Force. As the mask closes on Anakin, he just barely audibly whispers "Help me Padme," they are bound through the force and she gave up her life force to help keep him alive. The "lost the will to live" was only the suggestion of the droid. The tragic secret to the dark side's ability is it can only extend life by drawing on the life force of others, as much as loathe the sequel trilogy the concept of a force bond between two people comes direct from this story.
This is just a random theory though. No one from Star Wars has ever put any credence into this theory. Obi-Wan not killing Vader comes down to his Jedi beliefs more than anything, at least according to the novelization. He did sense the Emperor approaching but also at the end of the day he's a Jedi, and a Jedi won't kill an unarmed opponent. I highly recommend reading or listening to the novelization of this movie, it's so so great really being able to get into the characters' heads.
I prefer the explanation that Obi-Wan was fully convinced he was leaving Anakin for dead. He couldn't bring himself to finish him off. I think it's a much better explanation than the novelizations.
44:51 You're dead on the money about the Sith creating stronger apprentices to eventually kill them. The Sith believe victory comes when iron sharpens iron. The apprentice must advance his power to kill the master. The master stays strong knowing the apprentice is trying to kill him. It's the bedrock of Sith military doctrine. The goal is to gradually evolve over time to becoming an insurpassable lifeform.
I think an important think that youve missed is that the sith have the rule of 2, so that the apprentice will always be stronger than the master. Anakin was suposed to be twice as powerfull as sidious, but becouse Obi Wan chopped of all his limbs, now as vader, hes potantiol is limited to 80 % of sidious his power. Also the suit of vader is made of the worst cybernatics in all of star wars. Sidious did this to punish him for losing to obi wan. Vader is basicly always suffering and in pain.
48:48 Exactly, you totally nailed the reason. They confirmed it long after the movie was released, although the other reason also makes sense to be honest..
I'm not sure if this is canon, but I think that Palpatine DOES know the secret to immortality. He kept Anakin alive while putting him into the Vader suit, and as Anakin is being reborn as Vader, Padme mysteriously "loses the will to live" (and the medics can't understand why). This is because her life force was being siphoned into Vader. Palpatine somehow knew that Padme had died....
Palpatine was making up that Padme died. It was pure dumb luck and coincidence she actually did die. Also he was lying about knowing the secret, he is a liar...that's what he does. He didn't learn it from Plagueis. The Sith cannot access power of that level because the dark side cannot, only the light side grants you the highest of power...which is why the light side is the better, "stronger" path. These are the most basic teachings by lucas.
@@NiaMakiReacts to be fair, it’s the most dangerous part of a force wielder. You try to get rid of what is hurting you in a fight. Hand holds the saber, cut off the hand. Makes sense.
IF Anakin was expired here, then palpatine would just get a new apprentice and the prophecy would not have been fulfilled by Anakin when he atomized the emperor, bringing balance to the force
As powerful as Vader is, his suit always limits his full potential, which was near limitless, and power. Luke had no such weakness, and all the potential in the galaxy. Sidious must have been cackling with pleasure at the idea of gaining what he thought he'd lost when Obi-Wan maimed Vader. No wonder he was so put off by Luke's staunch refusal to fall into the same trap his father did.

Fun fact the second anakin made the choice to cut windus hand off he immediately started becoming a whole new person, that’s how the dark side works by the time he saw padme again or even obi wan anakin was gone he basically turned to full hate. He is a antagonist that is a victim anakin was still good but after cutting windus hand off anakin was gone…
So Ani’s wife runs off with his best friend. I’m glad he’s keeping busy, he’s got his work. Must be interesting in running a Galaxy , lots of traveling, meeting new people. Not to mention new challenges to over come
Palpatine was never weak. He bet his schemes on Anakin, and Anakin turning on Windu meant that his schemes paid off. His smile was one of pleasure, at the corruption of the young Jedi.
The Jedi failed Anakin through their own fear of the dark side. He asked Yoda for help and guidance for his visions of Padme's death and got told to let go of his feelings for other people. Palpatine offered him the solution to save her. What option would you choose? It's also believed by some that Palpatine used what remained of Padme's life to save Vader. Essentially using the power Anakin wanted to learn to save him rather than the person he wanted to save. How else would he know Padme had died?
I completely agree, Obi Wan and the Jedi had failed Anakin. Obi Wan should’ve tried being more loyal to Anakin instead of the Jedi Council. Anakin never felt like he belonged in or accepted in the Jedi Order. He also knew that the Jedi didn’t trust him, so why should he be loyal to people who never trusted him to begin with?
When Dooku sent General Grevious and the droid army to capture Palpatine from Courasant, the clones were deployed with the Jedi as Generals. During the flee to their ship Grevious had his insides crushed by Mace Windu resulting in his chronic cough we here in the film.
Grievous is coughing and sick because in the cartoons, right before this he got his chest caved in by Mace Windu. Even Grievous needs internal organs, apparently.
I think it's explained somewhere that he has some limited force powers from Dooku, and the organs are necessary for a connection to the force, albeit a terribly weak one.
44:46 You are spot on about the Sith wanting a strong apprentice. Darth Bane invented the rule of two because the Sith was in constant war with each other and is why they could never defeat the Jedi. Darth Bane concluded that in order to defeat the Jedi, there could only be two Sith, a master and an apprentice. Bane also believed that having a strong apprentice that could overthrow the master would ensure the survival of the Sith as he had a strong apprentice and was willing to die at the hand of his apprentice if it meant the survival of the Sith.
I don't think you can explain away Obi-Wan not knowing R2D2 or C3P0 in episode 4. It's just an inevitable consequence of writing the prequels afterwards. There are a couple of other instances, like Obi-Wan saying 'he's our last hope' to Yoda who corrects him and says there is another. But of course he knew about Leia too. lol
45:30 _"Padme!_ You're _losing_ your _will_ to _live_ because of _Anakin,_ and-" Oh, no, Nia. Padme's dying because her Force energy is being drained by Darth _Sidious_ in order to sustain Darth _Vader._
Anakin upon entering the chamber full of Jedi children actually wanted to save them. The moment the one called him "Master Skywalker" a name he hated now, because he didn't want to be considered that man after all that he had done, he immediately got angry and decided killing them would be "saving them" from either being killed by clone troopers or starving in the streets.
13:54 ... This is sooo true. What if the mission was for Obi-Wan to spy on Anakin... and Anakin basically catches him... how much more awesome would this movie have been? I love your take.
The reason padme died: Palpatine was darth plagues apprentice who learned to use the midiclourians to create life and he then killed his master. Anikan was actually going to die and so he used that power to keep anikan alive and to use that power you must kill an alive person, and palpatine killed padme to keep anikan alive. How ironic
27:23 Palpatine could have tried to electrecude him again before and waste his enegry in doing so but now Windu lost his defense so he couldn't block Palpatine's force lightning.
16:17 do you remember when palpatine set to Anakin I need your help son.... Read one of the comics that talk about Anakin's beginning I'm not sure if that's Canon but that is an eye-opener in itself
alittle perhaps…. But Leia does say just images really. Padme was queen and a senator… it is highly likely that Leia saw many pictures of her mother, even perhaps holograms and archival footage… however, the older she got, she probably saw them less as Organa had to protect her identity.
20:39 "That's not fair." Well, don't be so hasty in your _assessment,_ Nia. It's true, General Grievous has been trained to wield lightsabers, and it's true, his body had been enhanced to the point where he can wield _four_ of them quite _formidably,_ but remember what he just _said._ "I have been _trained_ in your... Jedi arts." _Not:_ "I have been _trained_ as a Jedi." Because he's _not_ a Jedi. He _doesn't_ have the Force.
It is so refreshing to finally see someones first reaction, where they immediatly get why anakin is so frustrated with the jedi. Usually i just see people thinking he is entitled, whiney and arrogant. But the jedi keep pushing him away. First hey tell him he is the chosen one , but at the same time keep holding him back. Also they should have known that their usual teachings wouldnt work with someone who got introduced to the order so late. (Having ALREADY formed attachments. They should have adjusted their training. That is why he would have needed Qui Gonns training. Qui Gonn wasnt so rigged and stuck in his ways. The jedi of this era had become to political and less about following the will of the force. Also neat detail: The reason anakin (foolishly IMO, because he cold have jumped to the side and kept fighting) tried to jump over Obi-Wan, was to beat him the same way Obi-Wan beath Darth Maul in Episode 1. That was the first time a Jedi killed a Sith in a 1000 years (Maul survived but at the time they didnt know it). Anakin wanted to surpass that feat against the man that did it. Ironically Anakin is the first Jedi to kill a Sith in a 1000 years. To the question about having an apprentice to surpass you. Thats what palpatine originally wanted, because its the sith way to have the apprentice kill the master when he is strong enough. That way the sith keep getting stronger with each generation. But when anakin burned he lost part of his potential. Palpatine saw that as having the second strongest guy around as a lapdog until he found someone better.
Qui-Gon would have made no difference. He is not as different from other Jedi as you think and Palpatine would have still ensured he had Anakin's ear and separated the two (while also getting anakin with padme). Let's also not forget Anakin was ready to be a Jedi Knight at age 19 while Qui-Gon didn't let Obi-Wan even attempt the trials at age 25. Qui-Gon would have failed where everyone else failed because Anakin was doomed by coming to the order at age 9 with the baggage he had due to his mother (who Qui-Gon didn't free and warned Anakin about the tough life of a Jedi).
Balance in the Force comes not from eliminating both sides, but from the destruction of the Sith. Anakin, after being redeemed by Luke, accomplished this and brought balance to the Force, (thus fulfilling the Prophecy of the Chosen One) by destroying the last Sith Lord, the Emperor, Darth Sidious

40:37 Background: Palpatine always looked like this since he turned fully to the dark side. What we saw in the last 3 films is called a "Sith Mask" an ancient Sith Alchemy that could literally reshape an individual's appearance, altering the subject at the molecular level. But once melted away via Force Powers, it could never be restored. So this is realy his true face.
Great reaction to the Prequel Trilogy! My opinion is that things would have definitely been different if Anakin had been trained by Qui-Gon or if the Jedi Council had adopted a new method to teach Anakin given the circumstances. But at the same time as per the prophecy of him being the chosen one, I think it all had to happen in order for the balance to be restored. As it’s been shown and stated by George Lucas that Anakin was always the chosen one. And also how that prophecy came to full fruition when Anakin defeated Sidious to save Luke. I strongly believe the possibility that Sidious siphoned Padmé’s life force to keep Vader intact, and despite all he had Padmé still loved Anakin and he loved her and wanted save her even if he became corrupted by his objective. 🌌🛸💙❤️💔😱😭
Yeah so many times I’d get carried away by my emotions and I’d have to come back like, I guess it all had to happen anyway… sidius being responsible for Padme would make a lot more sense than she lost her will to live for sure
@@NiaMakiReacts Also the way I see it both the Jedi and the Sith needed to be balanced. The Jedi allowed their hubris to be blinded to the danger in front of them and the Sith were blinded by their lust for power to become corrupted and destroyed by it. TBH, any force user is capable to wield any of the powers of the force; it’s the choices they make with it that defines them. Anakin to me wasn’t pure evil or pure good. Just person who’s good intentions were corrupted because he was manipulated by both sides. Padmé and Obi-Wan were the only ones who had best intentions for him. Padmé just wanted to give him love, and Obi-Wan just wanted to give him guidance.
17:31 Exactly! Keeping Anakin isolated and working with the Chancellor alone was something the Council could have intervened in. But I t’s what the story was that they needed to tell.
Padme died of broken heart syndrome. The poor lady didn't understand who Anakin really was. A troubled young man who thought that with his strong connection to the force he could do anything. Saving the people he loved has always been his obsession. Yoda had sensed it in the first episode and it should never have been trained. Anakin was a mental patient driven by certain obsessions. Obi-Wan beat Anakin because he knew how Anakin fought and he knew Anakin by heart. At the end of the fight he played on the arrogance of his young padawan and it worked like hell. Anakin will have often been betrayed by his arrogance. Fortunately, his love for Padme and his desire to save those he loves allowed him to kill the Emperor and save his son. Palpatine didn't get it, arrogant as he was that Anakin's desire to save those he loved was always a primary driver of his actions. Let's not forget that in this episode 3 for example he refused to abandon Obi-Wan when Palpatine ordered him to do so. I think Anakin acted as he did out of a desire to save those he loved. This is why he saved Obi-Wan multiple times, why he was willing to sell his soul to save Padme, and why he ultimately killed the Emperor to save his son. There's a bit of that in Luke too, who in episode V was ready to do anything to save his friends.
Anakin's obsession with saving people was never a issue, Luke was the same way. The way they were raised is the problem. Luke was never forbidden from caring or saving those he cared about, and he turned out fine. Anakin was never given that, and grew up a confused mess over his emotions.
@@gameboypunk660 thats not true that has always been a fan theory but was never confirmed its always been a broken heart and sith life steal is used to heal oneself not someone else vaders survival is purely due to his anger and hatred
Anakin wasnt mental he was a genuinely good person constantly ruled by emotion and constantly being told by the jedi that emotion is bad which anakin and luke both show is ridiculous since emotion and love saved the galaxy anakin should have been trained better not chastised and treated like crap nonstop by the jedi its why Palpatine was able to get into his head so well bcuz Palpatine was the only one being "kind" to him the jedi treated him like the black sheep of the order and it was ultimately their undoing all of anakins arrogance could have been changed had the jedi done things differently with him but they were so bound by tradition that it never happened instead of talking down to him and isolating him further with every mistake he would make they could have been understanding and given good council instead all they did was tell him dont feel dont care dont get attached be a Droid more or less which isn't how he thinks its why so many people agree qui gon was his best chance in the order unfortunately we all know how that turned out
@@SkylorBelmont I completely agree with you, the Jedi ultimately failed Anakin and his apprentice Ahsoka. The Jedi had become too dogmatic, too arrogant, and too detached from the ordinary people of the galaxy. Whereas in Star Wars Legends Luke’s new order Jedi are allowed to marry and have children, they are to taught to regulate their feelings instead of suppressing them.
That snarl Palpatine made when he spun through the air is called Force Scream. It is a dark side force ability, and it is why he defeated the first two Jedi so quickly.
They are not separate people
Sort of but not really.
They're more the same person than, say, Gollum and Smeagol. Vader is basically a heavily corrupted by the Dark Side Anakin, more than anything else.
Sounds like manipulation and brainwashing.
Force ghost!!! That’s it
@@NiaMakiReactsAnakin's descent into darkness was well portrayed.
He would create an alternate Reality or go through all of history. ;)
You have to find out about the lost 20 Jedi like Count Dooku, about the fates of Jedi with the ability to see the future, young apprentices who were not taken by any Jedi masters to learn, who showed little talent for the force and were not shown to the temple which in some cases was quite drastic, . ..

I was just about to say the same. I’d heard that as well
It’s not a theory it was in the novelisation the emperor linked there life force using a sith power callled sith alchemy
Excellent Hypothesis my friend 👏
Dooku also failed his task in killing kenobi, a huge part of why palps had him killed then and there.

20:01 Palpatine always played both sides. He basically orchestrated this entire war, to become more powerful and get rid of the jedi.
Yoda knew, just like Obi-wan did.

@@chrissonofpear1384 Yes there is more than one way but are u aware that all the bad that happened is the consequence of the dark side?

On the other hand, the Dark Side is natural, seemingly, so learning to manage it is implied to be crucial.
Not all can be taught precisely the same lessons the same way, however.
Palpatine's appearance actually changed no because of being hit by his own Force Lightning, but because he was exerting so much energy into trying to kill Mace Windu that he lost the ability to maintain his false visage. Totally embracing the Dark Side causes your body to become corrupted and twisted, and so he was using the Dark Side to keep himself looking normal, hiding his yellowing eyes and deforming features.

That little tid bit about being able to convince the Midi-chlorians create life is huge call back to when his mother couldn't explain her pregnancy.

Interesting tidbit from the Episode III Novelization (Book version of the movie):
Part of why Anakin was so quick to think Padme had betrayed him is because of one of Palpatine's manipulation off screen.

Darth Sidious made Anakin's armor purposefully constricting and outdated so that darth Vader was unable to take over him
Back in the old days when there where many sith they would always eventually start fighting eachother for power so after the order was almost completley wiped out one of the last survivors decided to just have two sith at a time so that they could secretly work in the shadows to one day get revenge on the jedi. Having the apprentice kill the master is like the final test because if you succseede then you have proven that you don't need them anymore and if you fail then you get killed because you werent ready. This way the sith would become stronger every time at least in theory.
all other droids get wiped now and then, but not R2-D2 so everything it learned, it remembers and can answer to
The scene on the balcony with padme shows that R2 speeks with C3PO who says "well, he's under a lot of stress" and played R2 down like he's always doing with him. So you can assume that R2 is kind of furious about Anakin
Also Anakin told R2 on Mustafar to stay at his ship. IN IV V VI R2 kind of refusing orders from his masters and it's because the last time he did, his master never came back.
I also love the fact that Padmes last words before she died were "There is still good in him"
And Vaders (at this point Anakin again) last words were "you were right"
In the novelisation we actually get an insight into r2s thoughts through 3pos, translator.

25:25 In the book it says that Palpatine (and Windu) fight so fast that you basically only see flashes of light as an observer.
He needs organs because hes not a droid he was alien that became a cyborg.
@@LordVolkov you’re close, Grevious doesn’t have force powers. But he was an experiment to try and give him force powers that failed.

Darth Plagueis is pretty much Anakin father, it was his experiment that failed and created Anakin
Obi wan thought anakin burned to death by the lava. It wasn’t until years later he learned Darth Vader was alive
But of course he knew about Leia too. lol

20:39 "That's not fair."
Well, don't be so hasty in your _assessment,_ Nia. It's true, General Grievous has been trained to wield lightsabers, and it's true, his body had been enhanced to the point where he can wield _four_ of them quite _formidably,_ but remember what he just _said._
"I have been _trained_ in your... Jedi arts."
_Not:_
"I have been _trained_ as a Jedi."
Because he's _not_ a Jedi.
17:00 I don’t know if u picked up on it but it was Palpatine who killed his master Darth Plageius and the story is about him
Balance in the Force comes not from eliminating both sides, but from the destruction of the Sith. Anakin, after being redeemed by Luke, accomplished this and brought balance to the Force, (thus fulfilling the Prophecy of the Chosen One) by destroying the last Sith Lord, the Emperor, Darth Sidious
I give you credit for seeing that about Qui-Gon, and what the relationship between him and Anakin would have been had he survived.
Your analysis was very much on point i must say!!! 😺 Hope this franchise keeps going after the Rise of Skywalker tbh!
I’m really loving it! It really gets me thinking. I love it
@@NiaMakiReacts i'm not a super star wars fan, but not too long ago i read a forum discussing about how some things could have being avoided, like mayb the death of Anakin's mother or how the jedi council treated Anakin etc.. You said some similair things in this vid. 😸 Good must win in the end!!! or at least keep evil at bay!
Sidious was pissssed Vader's organic body was ruined, that reduced midochlorian count thoughh. Also goes to show how powerful he was to do everything he did on and off camera despite being nerfed so hard by his torture suit.
The Reason General Grevious is coughing is because in a 2D animated Series set moments before Episode 3's beginning, shows Grevious and his armies capturing Palpatine. During the encounter Mace Windu used the force to crush Grevious's chest just as he got away with Palpatine.

Oh cool! I’ll be watching the series soon so I’ll hang on till I see it,
@@NiaMakiReacts Watch the 2D micro series first, please, as it is no longer canon but so much fun. If brevity is the soul of wit, Gendy Tartakovsky does in 90 minutes what takes Dave Filoni several seasons 🤔
@@LordVolkov The 2D show is nothing but fighting, lol.
@@willfanofmanyii3751 Which is the essence of Star Wars. If I want impassioned political debates or someone pontificating on the human condition I’ll watch Star Trek instead. I’d actually love to see Picard righteously preaching at Palpatine.
@@RandomNonsense1985 Star Wars is a space opera, not an action series.
Actually The Emperor stole Padme's life force and funneled it to Darth Vader during his transformation to almost a complete robot
