Watching this movie, seeing Namor and the rest of the world’s governments planning to go after Wakanda I keep thinking of what Steve said. “Every time somebody tries to win a war before it starts innocent people die.”
Ryan, as a Mayan descent, I am pretty proud of how you covered our history. The way you cover all sorts of history is well-informed, respectful, and filled with nuance. I'm in grad school and I'm working on a documentary on my people's history of Guatemala. The last couple of years were the first time I learned about the coup attempt in 1950 and the genocide in the 70s through 80s on the Mayans. My father fought in the last war, as well as some of my uncles. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the events. I'm in this place where I would want the US to announce an apology for the coup, but power never seems to be able to bestow itself any humility.
Also, I think America may never apologize for the coup in Guatemala. If it apologizes for the Guatemalan coup America will have to apologize for the MANY coups, civil wars, etc that it supported in one way or another.
That first encounter with Namor will always feel mythical to me, a strange guy wearing non-wakandan clothing in Wakandan territory just marvels about the stories his mother told him while being half naked without care of possibly getting attacked. His presence alone was thrilling.
I'm glad they gave him a nuanced backstory and motivation (and was a little reluctant that it wasn't Atlantis, but setting it in the Yucatan worked well). I mention just for the sake of those who haven't read X-Men, that he's a complex villain because he eventually comes to join that team. And hopefully we see him join a rebooted X-men as well.
Namor has always "played both sides of the fence" in Marvel comics history..sometimes he is good and allied with heroes like The Avengers, Xmen or Fantastic 4. Other times he has been a ruthless ruler & villain. He has always distrusted the surface world, and famously went to war with Wakanda. He is often driven by anger, but Moreno a sense of duty to his people.
He's not a villain in the comics. He started out as a hero. Then became antagonistic towards certain countries. He's an anti-hero. To Black Panther he's a villain as Namor has taken a shit on Wakandan territory and Wakanda its self.

Truly these compounding government focused team up stories would be an awesome return to form for the MCU, and it seems like that is the direction they are going in, but tbh, we still have no real confirmation that this is the direction that Feige and the MCU will go in despite having dropped words like destabilization and referencing Brave New World and teasing Young Avengers. I guess I just don't have faith at this point that the MCU would deliver on anything close to a cohesive multi film narrative as awesome as this sounds. I feel that they might get close to teasing all of this, but since channels like Screencrush already called it, Feige or the individual directors/showrunners will want to change it to something else to maintain some sort of element of surprise, and then those changes result in another Secret Invasion level story where everything is watered down and tame compared to the potential epicness that they set up and could've delivered on. I guess only time will tell!

I've had Wakanda Forever as my 3rd favorite MCU film since the 4th time I saw it in theaters for these very reasons. Your video wants me to go see it again. I do hope your theory comes true as the MCU NEEDS some sort of connectivity.
This has been my favorite video of yours. I love the breakdown and discussion of the murky waters we're currently in, in the MCU. Also, I've been wondering when the young avengers would show up. I hope you are right.
I have a theory that Howard Stark not only knew about Wakanda but took resources. He had vibranium and I think the super solider serum has some Wakandan flower derivatives in it.
That idea you just told, is, awesome, I cant wait! I think you are 100% right, and I hope you are, omg if this sequence of events happened It would blow my mind, it is so good.

Ryan needs to be a writer for Marvel ASAP! He’s knows the story and timeline amazingly for him to plan out a future film 🙌🏼🙌🏼🔥 Shout out to this guy for these videos🤙🏼
Great video. Namor is definitely up on current events, in an early draft of the script it is explained Talokan developed their own optic fiber technology, allowing them to intercept outside communications and in the movie, it is also stated he visits the surface every now and then. His actions are indeed based on his experience by having observed humanity destroy and oppress others for hundreds of years. I think the MCU's portrayal of Namor and the potential for exploring the rich cultural lore and complexity surrounding his character provide an exciting opportunity for storytelling and world-building. I can't wait to see what will Namor's next move will be in future movies or even a standalone project of his own.
Even in the movie, the local remaining humans on Yucatan that Shuri speak with appear to know Namor. It would be great to see that Namor had also actually tapped the real-life underwater cables that still connect much of the Internet as it did the landlines.
To clarify, there was no misunderstanding in WW I. The assassination of Francis Ferdinand d'Este was only a pretext for starting the war. For example, Germany has been preparing for such a pretext for a long time.
@@xxGothrd Are you serious. This is elementary school curriculum. Perhaps we pay more attention to this fact in the Czech Republic, because we were ruled by the Habsburgs and we were part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Having your thoughts on a movie that doesnt even exist, and background not even explored, was actually better content than many of the movies lately. Keep this up!
As great as it would be to find out Marvel had secret movies tucked away, I don't think there is anyway they or Disney would hide that. Based on what they have made since Endgame, I sadly don't have high expectations for what is to come. It really sucks that William Hurt passed away. It would have been great to see him in his character arc all the way from Incredible Hulk through Civil War and to the Thunderbolts and beyond. Harrison Ford isn't bad, but it will feel like a disconnect to have a new actor.

Yeah they dropped the ball in epic fashion with Secret Invasion the acting was good but they didn't deliver visually or with the storyline it should have been 9 episodes and an hour long it could've been epic like the lone season of watchmen but I do see what it's setting up they just ruined a great story. Loki is the one thing that is maintaining my faith in the MCU
This opened my eyes to some of the movies' nuances. When Shuri said "This will mean war" I found that statement weird the first time. I thought "You getting kidnapped already meant war was likely. Why are you surprised?" But now that I look back, I see that she wasn't just NOT kidnapped, but she was also genuinely connecting with Namor there. She saw the bigger picture that Riri was involved in and was doing good as a political leader to understand Namor and his people. I also see that this whole mess between Wakanda and Talokan was founded more on a misunderstanding and miscommunication than anything else. I genuinely think that if Shuri had more time and Queen Ramonda understood the situation better, a peaceful solution could've been found. They may have even become genuine allies. But that one misunderstanding regarding Shuri's disappearance led to an absolute cascade of horrible events and, eventually, war.
See the World in Black and White. Just another totally entertaining aspect that makes the Channel a great watch. You're ever assured of some fun additions that don't necessarily have to match the Content Priority, nonetheless, adding to the essence of it all
I personally think Namor is better than Aquaman. I love his whole villain arc, not forgwtting how slick he maneuvers in the air with those wings on the side of his ankles. Just my opinion though
Between multiverse of madness, the marvels and this This is the best of the first sequel of these movies, I very much loved this movie while the loss of Chadwick was tragic, they honored him by not recasting him and by him having a son is in a way recasting tchalla without recasting Chadwick, WF is severely underrated
Both things can be true. Pretty sure Hayward is a villain regardless. And Wanda was considered more of unintentional villain. That changed with DSMOM.. but for WV, she was unaware through most of it that she was hurting people. Hayward wasn't portrayed as a complex character unfortunately but just a military thug IMO
Hayward manipulated Wanda into creating the Westview Hex so he could steal Vision's soul to activate his Frankenstein project. Hayward is definitely the antagonist of Wandavision.
Or just transfer the black panther too. Shuri is an intelectual and it seems very odd for her as character to be the black panther. Do you know what the original storyline was before Chad passed? It would be interesting to know.
Man, that's one of the drawbacks of special effect heavy movies that take YEARS to finish and therefore have years and years between installments in a series- I had honestly kind of forgotten Namor even existed, much less what he wants and doesn't want.
Talokan is based of Tlalocan which is from Aztec mythology. Most of Namors story in the MCU is based on Mayan history, except this. He's showing the stone because it's related to what he's talking about. But yeah usually people tend to mix the two thinking they're the same :/
The govt has Iron Heart’s machine and can replicate it, killing her would do absolutely NOTHING. It’s hard to understand why the storywriters ignored this fact.
They never had the schematic for it because they believe it was a fluke. They tried it and find out it actually worked, but talokan attacked them during this operation
Never saw the movie and never knew Namor was in a movie. But in keeping up with modern times Namor looks nothing like he is supposed to look like except for the ears.
@@kayaanbedi5554 at best they're equal strength, but Thor is probably a level or two stronger at least and he has ranged attacks + a weapon capable of chopping him up. Namor is punching slightly above his weight unless the fight is near water
@Swagnationrecords It's a little more even in the MCU where Thor isn't as powerful and Namor has a vibranium spear. Namor is portrayed as exceptionally fast and agile compared to even the Black Panther and if they want to introduce some more of his comic powers, Namor also produces electricity so he'd be immune to lightning attacks.
I am even SOOOOOOOOO happy that you even pronounced Namor correctly! This was a very true story. the way you told the story, was very beautiful. Hopefully there will be a way the two can TRULY come together. BUT, this is Marvel... Who knows...
Such a delight! Love the deep analysis videos like this. Please create the one analysing the base phylosophy for Starwars original theory: Empire = Pope and organized religion vs Jedi = Jesuits/Templars
This is an absolutely AMAZING video!! Well done on setting the history right on the Mayan culture, I never knew some of these things. Mayans and people of color have the exact same history. :(
It's not an act of war if no nation publicly declares a territory as its own. And you're saying that Namor can justify killing a college student because of an "act of war" on his country at the bottom of the sea that no one knew existed? As a descendant of victims of Spanish oppression, I can see that that's utter nonsense. Killing an innocent bystander is never justified, no matter how much "needs of the many" crap you pile on top of it. What you forget is the moral of that movie and its sequel - the "needs of the many" _don't_ outweigh the "needs of the few," and sometimes saving even one life is as important as saving an entire galaxy. "Sometimes, the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many."
This analysis is way way beyond comics. This is a political commentary, a crash course in real world history, a question to the morality of human beings. In addition to that, you also proved that Captain America made the right decision in Winter Soldier. Team Cap all the way!
Hi Ryan, I just wanna clarify a point regarding meso American history. By the time Namor fled into the ocean, the Mayan Empire was long gone, replaced by the Aztec empire. There were still Mayan ruins and remnants, but they were ruled by the Aztec.
Discovering that there's a new SC videos always brings a smile on my face. 🙂 I just love your different interesting theories grounded in a vast assortment of references (MCU and the comics), digging way deeper than I ever could. We can feel the genuine passion of the scripters and in Ryan's delivery. One thing I can't stress enough is the fantastic editing work you do. And those scenes running in the background as Ryan speak, those other small clips from other movie franchises, TV series, cartoons, etc. are always on point and a perfect comic relief. Thanks for a job always well done! 🤗 Yes Doug, you too.
Sir, as a minority/African American I really really appreciate your attention to the current zeitgeist. As we all enjoy these “stories” I appreciate that you acknowledge current times and colonization, oppression etc. thanks. From my heart I mean that thank you.
The story of Namor is the story of indigenous peoples all across the world. I appreciate the nuanced way they were portrayed, although it would be great if at some point he/they become “the good guys” in their portrayal by Marvel… extra points if this is done without him ever joining the avengers!
Agreed, Ryan and team did good on this one. I enjoyed their analysis and historical breakdown of colonialism's impact on the Mayan people and how those roots appear in the Namor's backstory in WF

I know this is necromancy on an old video from 6 days ago but its the first MCU one I saw... A cool fact about MCU -- THIS OCTOBER 2023 is when Avengers: Endgame "takes place" By most estimates, Oct 3rd is when Scott Lang suddenly reappears and by Oct 17th the Battle of Earth is in full-swing You or maybe MT should do a video discussing it/revisting Endgame
I never gave one 💩 about Namor as a kid reading comics. But his portrayal in the movie, particularly the scene wherein he explains his Name. “ …because I have no love for the surface world.”
I just realized Wakanda is the most weak they’ve ever been. They lost their King, their Queen, their princess, and their country went through a civil war, two major battles with Thanos forces, and a war with the Talokanil, and they lost many in the flood. They’re broken.
Watching this movie, seeing Namor and the rest of the world’s governments planning to go after Wakanda I keep thinking of what Steve said.

I've had Wakanda Forever as my 3rd favorite MCU film since the 4th time I saw it in theaters for these very reasons.
Your video wants me to go see it again.
I do hope your theory comes true as the MCU NEEDS some sort of connectivity.
Oh, I am so onboard with this scenario! Every single aspect you laid out.
This has been my favorite video of yours. I love the breakdown and discussion of the murky waters we're currently in, in the MCU. Also, I've been wondering when the young avengers would show up. I hope you are right.
I can't wait to see Tenoch play Namor again. He is my favourite villain
I wouldn’t call him a villain.

He might not though, he’s been accused of sexual assault!

I have a theory that Howard Stark not only knew about Wakanda but took resources. He had vibranium and I think the super solider serum has some Wakandan flower derivatives in it.
Makes sense.

That idea you just told, is, awesome, I cant wait! I think you are 100% right, and I hope you are, omg if this sequence of events happened It would blow my mind, it is so good.
Ryan needs to be a writer for Marvel ASAP! He’s knows the story and timeline amazingly for him to plan out a future film 🙌🏼🙌🏼🔥
Shout out to this guy for these videos🤙🏼
He literally works for a company in the industry he is NOT just a content creator omg wake up!
And you know this because YOU WERE THERE.

Atlantis is in fact an Ancient Egyptian myth, told to the Greeks. A Kilmonger and Namor 'What if' however, would be insane!
Yes but the Egyptians did not call it Atlantis, which is a European term created by European greeks😂

Loki is the one thing that is maintaining my faith in the MCU
fantastic video yall
Just like real life
See the World in Black and White. Just another totally entertaining aspect that makes the Channel a great watch. You're ever assured of some fun additions that don't necessarily have to match the Content Priority, nonetheless, adding to the essence of it all
So excited for Loki season 2
Kids In The Hall clips? This channel has everything!
I personally think Namor is better than Aquaman. I love his whole villain arc, not forgwtting how slick he maneuvers in the air with those wings on the side of his ankles. Just my opinion though
The entire movie for multiple reasons had me in tears, it's a hard rewatch...
Between multiverse of madness, the marvels and this
This is the best of the first sequel of these movies, I very much loved this movie while the loss of Chadwick was tragic, they honored him by not recasting him and by him having a son is in a way recasting tchalla without recasting Chadwick, WF is severely underrated
Hayward wasn't the villain of WandaVision, Wanda was. He was trying to save a town that she had captured and enslaved.
And then he tried to kill kids for it :v
@@raynelfastination - Wanda spent an entire movie trying to kill a kid
Both things can be true. Pretty sure Hayward is a villain regardless. And Wanda was considered more of unintentional villain. That changed with DSMOM.. but for WV, she was unaware through most of it that she was hurting people. Hayward wasn't portrayed as a complex character unfortunately but just a military thug IMO
Hayward manipulated Wanda into creating the Westview Hex so he could steal Vision's soul to activate his Frankenstein project. Hayward is definitely the antagonist of Wandavision.
@@raynelfastination What kids? The ones enslaved in their bedrooms and the babies who died because their parents were unable to tend to them?
You just blow my mind! That is a great theory!
Honestly I really hope you're on the money with this one!
That sounds awesome and probably make for a good wrap to phase 6
With the YA about to be formed and with Wakanda needing more heroes, i truly hope they age up Prince Tchalla so he can join in the fight
😅😮😮😮😮op
Or just transfer the black panther too. Shuri is an intelectual and it seems very odd for her as character to be the black panther. Do you know what the original storyline was before Chad passed? It would be interesting to know.
Love the editing! Reminds me of some of the smaller channels I follow and love!
Man, that's one of the drawbacks of special effect heavy movies that take YEARS to finish and therefore have years and years between installments in a series- I had honestly kind of forgotten Namor even existed, much less what he wants and doesn't want.
Same.
it wasn't that long ago
I love the Namors story and the Talokan concept, its amazing
Dude that's the Aztec sun stone. The mayan calendar looks like a bike chain wheel
Talokan is based of Tlalocan which is from Aztec mythology. Most of Namors story in the MCU is based on Mayan history, except this. He's showing the stone because it's related to what he's talking about. But yeah usually people tend to mix the two thinking they're the same :/
bro. you MURDERED this 🔥
The govt has Iron Heart’s machine and can replicate it, killing her would do absolutely NOTHING. It’s hard to understand why the storywriters ignored this fact.
They never had the schematic for it because they believe it was a fluke. They tried it and find out it actually worked, but talokan attacked them during this operation
I honestly love this channel. The Young Avengers theory blew my mind. More like Avengers dynasty!
Just wanted to shout out Doug. Doug is the heart of the channel 🤘🏻
Never saw the movie and never knew Namor was in a movie. But in keeping up with modern times Namor looks nothing like he is supposed to look like except for the ears.
I am not even Mexican, but I really hope they bring him back because the representation amongst the Latino community was so great with this movie
Hoping this leads to Namor vs Thor
Fish man can’t throw punch around microwave.
@@hairypancake4425 Thor would have to use this strategy to weaken Namor
@@kayaanbedi5554 at best they're equal strength, but Thor is probably a level or two stronger at least and he has ranged attacks + a weapon capable of chopping him up. Namor is punching slightly above his weight unless the fight is near water
@Swagnationrecords It's a little more even in the MCU where Thor isn't as powerful and Namor has a vibranium spear. Namor is portrayed as exceptionally fast and agile compared to even the Black Panther and if they want to introduce some more of his comic powers, Namor also produces electricity so he'd be immune to lightning attacks.
@baldbull6808 bio-electricity in fact, like an electric eel
The fact that they gave us a good film , after losing the main star , should be celebrated
I am even SOOOOOOOOO happy that you even pronounced Namor correctly! This was a very true story. the way you told the story, was very beautiful. Hopefully there will be a way the two can TRULY come together. BUT, this is Marvel... Who knows...
The movie pronounced it differently. So who is right?
...can we talk about how unsettling a giant dead alien sticking out of the ocean must also be?
I loved the bit where you went into all the details about thor.
Namor is not Aztec, he is Mayan
Es una combinación de ambas
I’ve learned more about Mayans from this video then school great work
NAMOR was the best part of that Black Panther movie and was a real badass!😊👍
This analysis is way way beyond comics. This is a political commentary, a crash course in real world history, a question to the morality of human beings. In addition to that, you also proved that Captain America made the right decision in Winter Soldier. Team Cap all the way!
This was the way I thought about it when it first came out and when I tried to explain it to ppl they called me crazy. Thank you for this
They should’ve let Namor do the deed. That way we wouldn’t have to see a Iron Heart series 😂😂😂

Hi Ryan, I just wanna clarify a point regarding meso American history. By the time Namor fled into the ocean, the Mayan Empire was long gone, replaced by the Aztec empire. There were still Mayan ruins and remnants, but they were ruled by the Aztec.

The story of Namor is the story of indigenous peoples all across the world. I appreciate the nuanced way they were portrayed, although it would be great if at some point he/they become “the good guys” in their portrayal by Marvel… extra points if this is done without him ever joining the avengers!
Also massive shout out to you, Ryan. Your commentary specifically about colonization are respectful and highlight our plight as it continues today.

That fight between Shuri and Namor had a LOT of not subtle sexual allusions
I never gave one 💩 about Namor as a kid reading comics. But his portrayal in the movie, particularly the scene wherein he explains his Name. “ …because I have no love for the surface world.”
I just realized Wakanda is the most weak they’ve ever been. They lost their King, their Queen, their princess, and their country went through a civil war, two major battles with Thanos forces, and a war with the Talokanil, and they lost many in the flood. They’re broken.
That’s what happens when a nation steps up as the world’s leader. In a way, that shows that T’Chala father was right about being isolated.
