I have so much more respect for Kurt Russell after seeing this movie, how he can go from being a macho, seemingly invincible benevolent evil into this pathetic and hilarious squealing thing is insane to me. His performance throughout this entire movie is what makes this ending so satisfying.
His acting in this scene is absolutely top notch. It’s easy to play a tough guy, but his ability to act like a bully-turned-terrified-coward is outstanding. He acted like someone who is really hurt and scared, not the typical “yeah I got shot but I’m fine” that you usually see in movies.
Part of what makes this scene so amazing is that not only do the girls get to take their well-deserved revenge on this asshole, but they enjoy the hell out of it too. Most protagonists would be much more grim or stoic in this situation, but these ladies are trash talking and laughing and having the time of their lives! He definitely fucked with the wrong girls.
Tarantino says when someone gets shot in a movie he wants to SEE that they’ve been shot hence why he does certain dialogue in those scenes and excessive use of blood

This movie shows how someone would probably react to getting shot in real life, no matter how cool they think they are.

When he hanging out the car and screaming - I saw a man screaming the same way and with the top half of his body hanging out of the front windscreen after his car and another and a van crashed where I live in 2002. His parents were in the car and were killed outright, the other cars occupants died and the passenger of the van wasn’t too bad but the driver was seriously injured. I was 24 and was driving to my shift at the local hospital for my placement - I was a student nurse. Hearing Kurt scream like that brought it all back in an instant - the smell, the awful sounds, the utter helplessness.

He was acting all tough when terrorizing an innocent girl in his "Death Proof" car 30 minutes earlier in the movie, then he gets retaliated upon and now he's there crying and screaming. The kind of film where you *really* hope the good guys are gonna win

In fact when they shot him and he was running away, if they were the good guys, that's where it would have ended. They could have gone into town and reported it to the police. That was the whole point of the movie, bad guy takes glee in killing girls, bad guy bites off more than he can chew and is offed by girls who turn out to be far more dangerous than he is.
Kurt's whole performance in this movie was incredible. He actually made me want to see him getting his ass kicked. But he deserved an Oscar for those screams alone.

Never the less...real cars crashing into real cars the way it should be! 2 iconic classics beating each other to pieces, painful to watch. Sounds like there both 440 cars too, even more painful! But these 2 are immortalized in time for generations to see how it was done Before CGI. So perhaps its worth the sacrifice.....

Wished Tarantino had kept ol' Stuntman Bob in character as a guy who came across as affable but was actually a vicious psycho. It would've been more galvanizing to see the three ladies take down a menacing monster and not some cowardly wimp. Which gave rise to the whole "the ending predates the start" theory even though he's given what looks like a coup de grace by Dawson's boot as the credits roll and the music chirps along.
Funniest part to me is how he spits the alcohol out at 1:15 and how hard his "head" hit the steering wheel lol. He ain't driving anywhere after a hit like that. He's driving around in the next life after a hit like that 🤣
I have a theory that the reason Mike was so impulsive, reckless and thoughtless during this part of the movie is because he's been drinking that bourbon. During the first half of the film, Mike was sober and shown to be methodical, cautious and manipulative. Not a reckless lunatic toying with people on open roads in broad daylight with no strategy. He started hitting the bottle and that became his undoing. Just my two cents

What really killed this final chase for me was the fact that Lee (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wasn’t included in the final chase/poetic retribution. We saw Stuntman Mike fawn, stalk and kill 4 women (Lana Frank, Arlene “Butterfly”, Shana banana and Jungle Julia) and then pick the wrong “victims” for a second run. But, they forced Lee to be babysat by a creep hillbilly which ruined the whole parallelism of the two groups. I also don’t count Pam (Rose McGowen) as she wasn’t part of the first group and merely was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Yeah, for me this movie has ups and downs and the fact that one of the characters in the second group just exits the movie to be collateral is one of the biggest downs. A bummer considering how amazing this final chase is

Wished Tarantino had kept ol' Stuntman Bob in character as a guy who came across as affable but was actually a vicious psycho. It would've been more galvanizing to see the three ladies take down a menacing monster and not some cowardly wimp.
Which gave rise to the whole "the ending predates the start" theory even though he's given what looks like a coup de grace by Dawson's boot as the credits roll and the music chirps along.

I have a theory that the reason Mike was so impulsive, reckless and thoughtless during this part of the movie is because he's been drinking that bourbon. During the first half of the film, Mike was sober and shown to be methodical, cautious and manipulative. Not a reckless lunatic toying with people on open roads in broad daylight with no strategy. He started hitting the bottle and that became his undoing. Just my two cents

What really killed this final chase for me was the fact that Lee (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wasn’t included in the final chase/poetic retribution. We saw Stuntman Mike fawn, stalk and kill 4 women (Lana Frank, Arlene “Butterfly”, Shana banana and Jungle Julia) and then pick the wrong “victims” for a second run. But, they forced Lee to be babysat by a creep hillbilly which ruined the whole parallelism of the two groups. I also don’t count Pam (Rose McGowen) as she wasn’t part of the first group and merely was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Yeah, for me this movie has ups and downs and the fact that one of the characters in the second group just exits the movie to be collateral is one of the biggest downs. A bummer considering how amazing this final chase is
Very realistic dynamic though. She was a dummy and a liability. No way they could have pulled that off with her in the car. Hopefully she didn't get graped tho, although greasy hillbilly mechanic was kind of hot and it worked out ;)

Abby wasn’t necessarily gung-ho about them playing Ship’s Mast either nor was she a willing to chase and fight Stuntman Mike until she thought he got Zoe killed. IMO the final chase needed four women to parallel the 4 women in the beginning

Yeah, me too leaving Lee with a hillbilly (probably got graped) is really killing my mood with the chase scene and it made me suddenly hates the 3 girls and rooting for stuntman mike to kill them because i think they deserves it for ditching their friend like that.

Makes sense. Tarantino villains have the tendency to lie about little things in order to further ensnare their victims (in "Inglourious Basterds", Col. Landa lies about the extent of his abilities to speak French so as not to alarm the Dreyfuss family that he knows where they're hiding and his plans to exterminate them and to further manipulate the dairy farmer; in "Django Unchained", Stephen lies about being a frail old man and just another slave when he's practically the brains behind Candyland and shielded by the Candie privilege).
