How do you keep hiking after you kill someone? If you find someone dead of a heart attack you still would not keep hiking. This is so out of the normal. There is something definitely wrong with this kid and his girl friend. The whole thing stinks.

And who leaves to go on a 3.5 hour hike at 9pm? That doesn’t make any sense. I live in Vancouver BC, and have similar woods. They are DARK. You cannot walk them reliably at night unless you live on those trails, or you use a flashlight. And then they got lost. So…he didn’t know the trail that well. And if he used a flashlight to illuminate the animal, he wouldn’t have only seen two glowing eyes. You’d see a person holding a dog.

When his girlfriend said he was "dead dead "and described him as "Blue" she seems to be describing someone that was dead for a while for maybe 12 hours or so. After death the body takes on a yellowish color and blood pools toward that part which is closest to the ground. That is called lividity.
However for what ever reason (I'm a retired 20 year ER nurse) sometimes the blood pools in different areas giving the cadaver a bluish hue.
This description would support the "already dead" theory but continuing to hike and camp and not reporting this horrific event does not look good. In fact I would have to be insane to remain in the woods and not report it immediately.

My thoughts are that Ethan and KB were high on a substance. Aron heard them hollering and picked up Buzz, thinking they'd pass on the trail unharmed. Ethan in his drug-addled state probably created a "beast creature" in his imagination that turned into a convincing hallucination, loaded the gun and shot Buzz and Aron with one shot. That's why they didn't call authorities, it's because they were under the influence. Ethan, KB, and Ethan's father should all be charged at various levels of culpability for this crime. RIP, Aron and Buzz. 😢

As a lifelong marksman and avid hunter whom has put tens of thousands of rounds down range, I feel that I must reiterate the fact that a person is _supposed_ to be responsible for each and every round they fire. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case in this instance. I am actually shocked that charges in regards to negligent* homicide and animal cruelty have not been brought against the shooter. Shocked indeed and disgusted I am. It too seems that the local law enforcement agencies whom would be responsible for filing and investigating said charges are either completely inept or corrupt, or possibly both. My prayers go out to Aaron Christiansen’s loved ones and I hope that his family wins the $20 million lawsuit against their inept and or corrupted local law enforcement agencies and city, county and state governments. Im a 22-year big city cop with 12 years as a detective. I said it before in here, and this video is another example...you missed your calling. I wish all detectives/officers had your clarity of thought and rationality. You really need to either write a book or be in charge of some type of mandatory training for all police officers. EIther they take your class, and pass, or they dont become an officer in the first place.
Great case analysis, you are 100% spot on.

Dr. Grande your analysis are always interesting and professional. That being said, I will train myself to refrain from watching your channel while drinking beverages. Your assessment of the responding Deputy and his respect for the capabilities of sticks, was very thought provoking and choke inducing, hence I must refrain from having soft drinks while enjoying your channel. Also, your recent assessments of the State of New Jersey is also accurate. Have a great week.

How tragic! Maybe Buzzo wanted to protect the sleeping Aaron and growled (the poor cute thing) and in the dark was mistaken for a fierce big animal 😢 Sounds like something my small doggie Mona would do out of fear and loyalty 😢!! What a horrible misunderstanding!!

I never heard of this interesting case. Very odd how the dog was shot, went through the pup, and killed the man with the same bullet. You are right--the geometry does not match. The dog was small. Yeah...some lethal stick! (I appreciate your humor regarding that!). THC can prolong the QTc interval that can cause cardiac arrest, but that was also something else thrown in to account for the victim's death. What serendipity for the alleged killer! Thank you for all your research, which made it easy for me to understand.

Unbelievable…from the scene not being considered a death investigation to the shooter and his girlfriend not attempting to render aid, getting help, or calling 911. The lack of care or concern from the shooter and the deputy is unfathomable.

this case makes me angry and sad. ethan and his girlfriend’s story is a garbage lie all the way through, from starting a recreational hike at 9 p.m. to getting “lost” and failing to meet up with his father, presumably at a hunting lodge that he was familiar with. there was some already illegal reason they were hiking at night, they knew there was no mountain lion, and what hunter would tell his obviously very stupid son to hike at night to meet him for family fun times at a lodge? from the dad’s adamant defense of his son, who without a doubt killed a man and his puppy, i think the dad was having his son do something illegal for him.

you lost me at “having his son do something illegal for him” … What possible illegal activity would entail hiking a popular public trail at night? Marijuana grow ops are typically far away from high traffic public areas like this, and they’re not even a serious crime in those states (it’s a misdemeanor) , so what illicit activities do you have left that would make sense in this context?
