What are Mega Pickles?
It's the AI version of megapixels - new technology.
Simon must have been pretty hungry 😂
It’s kindergarten speak.
Big gherkins
Giant Cucumbers
Took a shower, Now i feel like a fresh megapickle
😂😂😂
Pickles are 4x bigger than pixels reducing noise by a factor of 2 stops, that really is wow.
I thought I was just hearing things.
Washing your pickle everyday is a good thing to do.
He always says mega pickle in every video
You always get me with mega pickles. I can’t keep a straight face 😂
😂😂😂😂
Look at all the comments about mega pickles in the description. it's got people joking around. And I love that. So I'm gonna keep doing it. I won't do it every video. But every now and then I'm gonna drop one. It might be at the beginning of the video or at the end of the video.
I just clicked this video and even before I start watching, I want to say thank you so much for what you do consistently. Love from 🇮🇳
You're very welcome.
just as I thought, the public won't see this camera till 2025.
Well, that's obviously the case for some, but I think a lot will shift this year
What if the canon R5 ii was just a more advanced photo camera with a strip down video and the R5c ii is the hybrid camera with both that would make it a whole lot easier to pick it i would like that I don’t shot much videos so to have just a more advance photo would be awesome
Totally agree. Why can't Canon (or others) make cameras for photographers? Video is not important to me either. My next camera may not be Canon if all the emphasis is on video.
@@jimbruton9482 Because the R&D is shared and video is what sells cameras today not photos(your watching this very video with a Canon video). Remember not that long ago Nikon was not focused on video at all and now they are fully turning into a cinema company.
Based on our conversation at the time, purely focussed on the R5 II being a wow camera that is not where the conversation was going. Remember, the whole context of the conversation was the R5 Mark two being a wow camera and then he went onto to give me a bit of insight into why it would be a wow camera.
Let's hope Canon doesn't pile too many weight- and bulk-increasing "features" on the R5ii that stills shooters don't want. Simpler (and LIGHTER) is often better. Many, many stills shooters never ever touch the red button. Removing the mechanical shutter doesn't accomplish anything if it is countered by adding a mechanical ND filter. One of Canon's negatives ALREADY is the weight and bulk of the cameras and lenses.
Personally part of the reason I love Canon is for the bulk. I love that heavy duty feeling.
@billmartin1010 If you typed less and shot more you might have a chance of carrying the premium product you dream of.
@@ThexCarl , that heavy feeling is fine for a one or two hour shoot. For quick shoots, the R3 feels just about perfect to me. But if you ordinarily do 8- to 12-hour shoots, as I do, you can feel every extra pound in the second half of the day. The current R5 is just about right -- but I would not complain if it lost a couple hundred grams.
At least the ergonomics are mostly spot on with Canon, unlike many other brands.
what i learned in this video is:
45 megapickles is enough it's not the size that count it's how you use the megapickles.
the new source is new and it is a really recent new source!
the new source was right before and is right again and it's a new source!
you are very happy and enthusiastic about how things are turning out, good for you!
cheers!
Maybe your source meant the decision between the R5II and the R5C will be easier...... Because the R5C/R5CII will have even more video advantage
Maybe the ND filters will be in the R5c
If one has IBIS and the other has internal ND...it will be an impossible decision.
Yeah, I'm really wondering if this sentence means that Canon will essentially kill the R5C because choosing the R5ii instead will be a no-brainer, or if it means that the distinction between the two models will be clearer.
I can't share th hot conversation, but we were discussing the R5 II being a wow camera, I tried to press more and that is when he indicate that if having trouble deciding between the R and RC, that would no longer be an issue. There was no reference to the R5C II in any conversations.
The very rare and elusive Mega Pickle! 🥒
Thanks! Is it some algorithm thing that you have to say "The Canon EOS R5 Mark Two" each time you reference the camera?
I'm not sure, but I think in the back of my mind that is what's going on
Ok I'm forever looking at video DR, the r5c could see 16.1 stops in Raw Clog2, but for whatever reason Canon did not make Clog2 available in HVEC recording, which is a huge Canon Cripple Hammer. Canon could actually win this round if they developed a 17 stop sensor that could shoot clog2 in MP4 format. That is literally the Game changer specs that would actually give not only Sony, but Arri and Red some huge competition. It would be an interesting Time if Sony dropped the a7V with updated specs
It's very hard to forecast what Ken has planned with her cinema line because they have released so very few products in the past four years. But from what my source told me about the R5 Mark two, I'm getting a sense that it's gonna be much more powerful video wise than it's predecessor.
July!? I was really expecting this one yesterday!
You were never gonna get one yesterday, all we're gonna get at this point is most likely development, announcements and teasers
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker That’s okay, Simon, I’m not shooting the messenger here haha, I’m just disappointed at Canon.
Hmmm if the on and off switch is on the left side no can do
Really just hoping for a stacked sensor and better AF in the R5 Mk 2. I would love to upgrade from my R5
My source is clear that it will have a stack sensor
Having built in ND filters would also be a big deal for portrait photographers who use fast lenses in bright light allowing for shallow depth of field and maintain your flash sync speed! Looking forward to this in the R5 ii !! 😁🙏 Thanks Simon!
Looks like rumours is now come out of story where they're dreaming of internal and filters as well
I have never seen someone work so hard on content...this is fabulous simon. I think we all are waiting for the mark 2....and canon is teasing us now.
He Googles canon rumours, puts it through AI to re-jig it and then reads off a teleprompter - it's not that hard.
@@m_saqibaliand here you are.
I'm a little bit driven, sir. I'm determined to make this a channel that people can rely on.
It could mean they are crippling the video part and your choice for video will be the R5C
Yeah, no IBIS works great, NOT!
No, that's not the direction the conversation was going.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Yeah, i am just stirring the pot a bit LOL
You forgot image stabilisation. How good can they make it? Can they compete with the Lumix s5II?
I think the image stabilization is designed for photographer so when you're shooting in low light, you can have longer longer exposure times. I don't think it is really designed for video shooters.
Why a mechanical shutter rather than electronic only? Is there an advantage to having both? Also, will a mount adapter still be needed in order to use EF lenses?
I’m really here for the mega pickles and patient applications!
A pickle may be an hors d'oeuvre or a side, but it always picks things up and makes things better
Those mega pickles are a game changer 🙌
* How about the screen on the back of the camera is it the same sidehinged or have they updated to tilting too ?
* I wonder why they have (rumoured) mechanical shutter?... LED lights? or 12bit RAW in ES ?
* Is 4K60p oversampled from fullframe supported?
I am looking forward to noise comparisons between the R5 and the R5 II. The R5 had a lot stronger colour shifts than the R3 when it came to recovering underexposed areas It is quite a problem if underexposed areas shows a colour shift compared to correctly exposed areas. That is hard to correct in post. Of course that problem only occurred in extreme situations, but the R3 handled that much better. So I expect the R5 II to have a huge improvement in that area.
More processing power should not really improve the dynamic range of the sensor. It would just add some noise reduction that you might not want, as it can be done much better in external software.
I suspect with a complete new sensor design that you'll definitely see some differences
Yesterday was capturing sparrows in a distance of 5 meters with R5 and RF600/4. I am capturing birds for years, and as always I was able to capture zero photos of jumping out from the branch bird. Decent pre capture and 120 fps required for this scenario. Other way you need to take those shots from a longer distances, that causing detail loses. So another alternative is a Sony 9 III but it’s low res camera. Wish R1 could handle speed and resolution.
Love the early information on the R5 Mii. Your beaking down the filed application of software and internal functions really give me a sense of the possibilities that it could have. Continue with all that you do, and content matters when you get an absolute specification. But everyone needs to understand that we are talking about a wish list first then trying to guess whats realistically coming out when they announce it. Your channel covers a lot of information on the filings which are super important and the rest is great for conversational engagement. Thanks for your insight and time you put into this. 😎❣️
Thank you I appreciate that Mark. My focus is on delivering value. Not just stating something, not just providing rumors. But providing some insight into why they might be to the camera. I think the applications to the specifications does help. I also enjoy it.
Canons deep discounts on the R5 are clearing inventory! My guess is that the new R5II will leapfrog it in many ways.
I would like 16:9 video recording without a cropp.
Wondering whether there is any indication on the long-time rumored R5S i.e high resolution R5? It could make sense now since it is confirmed that the R5II stays at 45MP and that leaves room for a 80-90MP R5S version?
Nothing other than conjecture at this point
2024 looks to be a fun year for Photographers and Videographers, Thanks Santa Simon!!!!
With a right imagination, Paul, every year is a great year for photographers and videographers
45 stacked and back illuminated megapickles!!!
It's actually getting harder to say megapixels now
To be wow its needs: 45Mp (should really be 50MP),
Not everything is about the resolution.
I wish they had WOW lenses..😁
Wow $$$
Please try to confirm with your source(s) information about the battery and battery grip for the R5 II. Is the battery going to be upgraded? I already have the BG-R10 grip. I hate the thought that I'm going to have to buy a new grip. I wasn't planning on another $350. Or, is it possible that Canon with use an R3 type body for the R5II? That would be great for the larger LP-E19 battery. Thanks for keeping us updated with what you know, Simon. And, thanks to your sources.
You need to understand that this is more of a one-way conversation. Sources will provide me what they're willing to provide me. I can ask questions, but these are usually validating questions are usually cannot illicit more information.
Hi Cathy, I believe it's very unlikely (also based upon patent sketches shown by Simon) that the R5ii would change the body type. Given the R6ii still uses the same BG-R10, I wouldn't be surprised it will also fit the R5ii.
I do recall some rumor the R5ii would get the same form factor battery, but improved once more.
However, I assume you saw the latest rumors from Jan Wegener as well, and he predicted the R5ii to get a readout speed faster than the lower mp R3. Which means hardly any rolling shutter.
On my R5 I could get 6400 shots from 1 battery in electronic, but only 1800 or so in EFCS, which I now use more often to avoid rolling shutter. I'm not sure in what mode you're shooting, but when Jan's rumor is correct then I'd only shoot in electronic .. and wouldn't need the grip for the battery ..
Any information on card slots provided by your sources?
None. They're just slowly teasing out information.
Just finished one of your earlier R1 videos, so the R1 will be 30MP stacked and the R5II 45MP stacked? Maybe the R1 sensor is more advanced somehow
R1 is a stacked dual gain sensor 👌🏽
Well no way the R5ii has the same FPS output as the R1.
@@natureredux1957 Agreed, it better because I think the R1 will be a little heavier on the wallet than the R5II
That video on the R1 with the leaks specifications. I pulled the video because according to Adorama, it was a technical mistake and those specs aren't a reflection or aren't accurate.
Expecting improved dynamic range , improved image quality at higher iso range and a 3-d LCD SCREEN.
Thanks
We will definitely get those improvements. We just don't know how much.
I want to buy the r6 mkii but I was worried about a mkiii because the big discount it has. So nothing is showing a new version at least for this year?
If the R6 March 2, gives you all the capabilities you need and you like the price, go for it. There will always be something better. Focus on what it gives you and if that's what you need.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Great advice
Your investigative reporting is unique on TH-cam - Thank You Simon!
I think what you're seeing there Brian is my years of experience as a project manager and an enterprise architect. At the end of the day people want to know results they need an analysis, but they need to understand why
Sweet, then we'll only have to wait until July 2026 for Adobe to put matching profiles into Lightroom, a week after they finally provide file support if Canon changes the suffix again.
As an R5C shooter, an E-ND would be amazing in a MKII version. If they consolidate the CinemaEOS and EOS lines (doubtful) that would be even better. I will still hold out for an R5C-II in any case.
The subscription you spoke about in previous vlogs is the a set thing they are going through with do you think
I've had a few sources telling me about it, but to the scope and the extent of that scope, I have no idea
Thanks for the info and in your personal a pinion do you think this will harm canon sales and deter people from buying the canon R5mark 2
informative context and news thanks Simon.
Did you just say ..."a 45 mega pickle sensor..." (0:23) that was a gem :). But seriously, thank you for all the hard work and long hours you put in to this channel. I really worry about this rumored subscription service on the new EOS models, hate that... I will stick to my R6 and wife will stay with the R7, maybe get the R6 mk II if the new models come with that subscription service fee.
I appreciate that Seb. We created a stir about the subscription model which should help get our message out. If they do a model that makes life annoying to us, we just need to make noise until they reset.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Agree well done!
I wish they would do a new Canon Connect app .one that works
Yeah, that thing indefinitely of an update
I hope you are right, and the R5 MKII will come with an internal ND-Filter, this would make the need of a R5C MKII obsolete (at least for me), if it can record at least 1h 8K-RAW-LT without overheating. But I am afraid that the internal ND-Filters will come with a C version. Thank you, Simon, for all these interesting videos 😀
R5m2 sounds sweet - hope it isn't one of those cameras that end up with a "monthly subscription" requirement.
Let´s see what the price will be.
Fuji made an interesting move today. The newly announched GFX100S II is cheaper than its predecessor was when it came out. It would be a dream if Canon would do the same with the R5 II, but I'm afraid it will be much more expensive than the Mark I R5 was in 2020.
You just have to look to the Japanese yen versus the West dollar. There isn't gonna be a lot of upwards pricing pressure on the new cameras. In fact, we're seeing the opposite prices are coming down.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Thank you for that info, you give me hope :)
Any new news on the 35mm ?
Let's wait and see what happens next week
And the ground breaking closed mount😂. Spent the week in Disney and I saw 100s if not 100’s of Sonys and two Canons that werent entry level.
Also, is that schematic that we saw this supposed FX3 rival that’s been rumored? I have an FX30 and an RF full frame type camera like that would be perfect
Are the new Stacked Mega Pickles buttery smooth or dill sour?
It all has to do with the occasions, sir. As a late night snack, a sour dill is perfect. Especially with a bit of smoked Gouda. But buttery smooth in a seasoned hamburger so very nice.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker but I think we all can agree that our Mega Pickles, no matter what flavor, must be crunchy! ;)
They have to make an R5C II. They’ll probably make us wait forever for it…but I hope they don’t wait too long because I’m not purchasing any cameras until the R5C ii releases. I want an R5C mk1 but it’s missing too many necessary things…and with these mk2’s they really should release a mk2. Even if it’s next year. But we’re waiting on the R5C ii…and as soon as it releases…I’m on it 🥳
Do you know if the frame rates are going to drop like in the original R5, like when the battery drops below 60%, and some other "circumstances" that are mentioned in the owners manual. This is very important because pundits and influencers push wildlife photographers to this camera because the new flagship is low mpx. Apparently they think these issues (including autofocus that is less than optimal) are acceptable to wildlife photography but not sports or action. I'm guessing that you probably won't know this because it's part of the cripple hammer that Canon always seems to use. It's not something they would promote, it's just hidden in the owners manual.
These latest leaked specs when it comes to sensor resolutions sound pretty valid since Canon did this with their 1 and 5 series for a long time. I'm curious to see what are the new things coming, in a way that's going to differentiate them from the competition. ND filters would be great, for example. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Somy released the A1mk2 just slightly before the R1 😂 Exciting times for Canon shooters!
I am a Canon shooter and find nothing about either of these releases to be exciting....
@@christophercarl8039 Oh, well... Let us tell Canon about it, maybe they could fix it somehow 😂
you are great human being and very sensible of you to keep your language family oriented.
Are megapickles a Canadian thing?
Everyone can enjoy a mega pickle
My guess would still be that the production specifications for both cameras (R1 and R5 Mk2) will not be finalised until after the selected pros have completed field testing during the Olympics. Then when the cameras are supposedly “ available “ for shipping, they will be as rare as hen’s teeth (😊, Simon!). I suspect that the average amateur user will not be able to get hands on either camera until late 2024/early 2025.
It would be very late to not have finalized the hardware the components. But for the software, oh yeah, guaranteed they'll be working on that till the very last minute. And then firmer updates for the stuff they didn't catch.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker agreed
17 stops of DR and in body ND filters and I'll consider upgrading.
Cheers Simon
Cheers mate
Nice!
They say the R3 produces sharper images and has better focusing response than the R5.
Yes, people do say that. We are five is after all four years old.
Nice to see Canon Catch up to the Nikon Z9/8.
Do you ever sleep! Your keeping me up! On a serious note you're awesome thank you so much!
I most certainly do. However, John, this one was recorded after work so it's not like I did it at 3 o'clock in the morning.
What can Canon do for R5ii that won’t cannibalize R3 sales? If it has stacked 45MP sensors with amazing video and amazing autofocus and burst shooting…then why pay more for an R3?
This Will be a power house , just like the a9iii and a1 Canon Will have a ”lower ” mp sports camera with an extremly fast sensor and a high mp camera that is slower but still extremly fast
Yeah, I certainly will. I think it's gonna be a very strong camera
"...the R5 mkII will make your choice much easier" could also mean: The camera is bad at video, so choosing the 5C (perhaps mkII) is all you could do. I really wouldn't mind to have a R5 mkII without any video features at all. I don't need them at all and would be glad to get it cheaper instead.
I hope it will have a normal HMDI and c-log2!
And i prefer a mechanical switch for photo/video like the wonderful Canon R6 II.
Never the less seeing forward to the new Canon R5 II.
greetings from Holland, Mike
When I buy my R5ii, the link I click will be from yours...
93rd, Should I sell my R5 and R3 now?
The best time to sell the R5 would've been at the beginning of the year. With all the sales on right now you're not gonna get as much money. But you'll likely get more than you will after the cameras announced.
So what is with the megapickle? Did I miss the punch line?
He thinks he's funny but uses it multiple times per video and now it's just not funny at all.
@@ChrisJohnson-wl2kg Well what do expect from a Canadian?😀
It started as a mistake in one video, and drew a lot of humor, so I drop it every now and then in a video and people seem to love it. Just look at all the responses in the comment section.
Howmany body price india
RF full frame lens coming this year ? Or switch to sony this year? 😢
The s5ii/x + lenses bundles are on REALLY deep discount, they're throwing lenses at people trying to get them into the system. You get to pick up to 3 of the Lumix S primes as well as several zooms. There's big edu discounts too. Considering jumping on, but I want to see what Canon and Nikon do this year before I pick a system.
I'm patient and look forward to the investment in July/Aug
What we're going through as part of the journey, I'll excitement and anticipation, and then that will fade into analysis as to what we're actually getting and if it delivers the value that I need as a photographer and videographer. I hope others do the same
It's literally likely impossible for Canon to build a stacked sensor using the same tech Design which gave them the non stacked R5 sensor. So 100% the Sensor will be entirely NEW. As will be any cropped Stacked Sensor. I also still say it will be at a MIN, $3999 if not higher. Currently the stacked sensor Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera is $3500 so a basically outdated by comparison R5 has to be discounted. Especially also seeing how the Canon R5ii is imminent. So for most, it really want make much sense to buy the older Models if they can afford the newer one and the current camera sales are reflecting that.
Merci pour ce partage et j’espère voir les filtres nd et surtout un hdmi standard 🎬👍
Cordialement
Jmarc😎🎥
I certainly hope we do get a full-size HDMI slot
From afar ...this seems like a challenge...Canon R5 II vs Nikon Z8 ? .... 😅
time dialation?
It's a concept that explains the effects of relativity on space time as one gets closer to the speed of light from a frame of reference.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker oh I'm aware haha
Come on Canon, give us at least 50mp 🤞
Thank you sir for such an awesome update. God bless you and your family. 😊
The next Cinema camera is going to be the c500 mark 3 :)
Thats what the new patents is for.
Great stuff Simon. What do you speculate which pricerange we're talking?
Great info Simon but get some rest bud, the mega pickels and time dilation talk has me worried for you. It's great to get the info out first but, burning the candle at both ends takes its toll on you.
2 x cfexpress type B ?????🙈🙈
Makes me hungry for a 45 mega-pickle sandwich.
Is that a stacked sandwich?
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Global Sandwich!
Yeah, that would definitely be giving us all the toppings
please canon;

45 Mega Pickle sensor again?
Are those the huge pickles that you can get at the movie theater in a huge 45 pack?
its gonna get global shutter in the R5II
Why am I craving pickles after watching this video 🤔?
if R5ii really has a 45mp stacked sensor it will kill Z8 and probably A7R5, and R1 will have the very same sensor
l
Shipping on July.. LOL
It's right in line with what happened four years ago.
That was my nickname in high school. Mega pickle
LOL
I am curious. How come when you say pixel you can pickle? You make me want to get a sandwich LOL!!
Mega pickle goes nice with cheese
I like mine stacked
We need 4.5 screen.
Slow releases man, who knows what Sony is cooking up, seems zv-e10ii is delayed till August, but unsure what else is going on with them, likely something exciting and soon. Seems there is some movement on C70ii for Q4 of this year. Aside from that unsure except for R5ii. I'm seriously ready to jump on something. I would consider the R5ii for sure if it offered something phenomenal, 8K raw is not for me, although I could use it on films or something. The R6 has always been my favorite best bang, but unfortunately the R6ii was not what I was hoping and I skipped it. The R1 is not for me either.
If they scrap the R5C line up and just infuse everything they learned into the R5 Mark II that would be honestly incredible
All they need to do is clean up dynamic range, add a fan or ventilation that would rival having a built in fan, add better recording codecs
Honestly I wouldn’t be mad if they don’t come out with a R5C mark ii and focus on the r5 mark ii to surpass it all
G rated Brilliant, many people can't get their point across without swearing, They're not eloquent enough, I like your g rating, with swearing, personally, I think there's no F****ng need for it! I really do mean flaming!
I love swearing
Meet me in person and you realize that swearing is something I do probably a little bit too often than I'd like to. But I'm thinking of what makes it comfortable for my viewers and do they have children around they watch their content without worrying about their two-year-old dropping the F bomb in class
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Yes there's a time and a place for it, I can swear as well as anyone, and do sometimes but like you I wouldn't do it here! It doesn't offend me, I think It's a lost argument if you can't put your point across without swearing
Damn these cameras taste like juicy mega pickles !
