  • Changing the tube on my SteppIR 40m return loops to improve reliability. I recorded this video about 8 months ago and have not needed to recalibrate the antenna since. It is important that the copper element has no resistance as the stepper motor has limited torque and any inteferrance can momentarily stop it from feeding through the tube freely. Also the antenna is a 4 element with the boom shortened to 26', the directors are now 10 feet apart instead of 16 feet to miss the trees when rotating.
Link to my local supplier for poly pipe, you can order online: www.bunnings.com.au/vinidex-2...

On addition to this that I use is to continue to use heat-shrink tubing on the sweep joints as well. That solves the problem of it coming apart. You have to be careful of what tubing you use to replace the original SteppIR... if it is not Polypropylene tube, it has too much friction to pass the end of the element (PP is more slippery that other plastics).

These antennas cost an extreme amount of money. Why should it have to be modified?
