Max deserved both penalties. He's been given, for whatever reason, far too much leeway for far too long. 2021 was an absolute joke, parking on Lewis' head at Monza, the list goes on. He won't stop what he's doing until he's made to stop by rule changes & penalties - I actually think he was trying to take both cars out at turn 7, which would've helped his WDC chances. A slow car is no excuse for driving like a petulant teenager.
You can Analise it till the cows come home but the bottom line is while he has an a points advantage he will not hesitate to take out his rival out regardless if he goes out himself just as he did in 2021.
utter rubbish.... if he wanted to take Lando out he would have just crashed into him and not turned into the corner. Why does he get 10sec for a crime that lando, george and piastri got 5 sec for a week ago?
Penalties deserved and I am a big Max fan. However, I think he got suckered into it by Lando. Lando knew he would do it and so he even pushed the limits and probably would not have made the corner himself. He even said he knew what to expect from Max. So all he had to do was bait Max into doing what Max does, and it happened. If we check the replays, Lando can only get to the apex before Max if he also makes no attempt to make the corner. Lando finally found a way and that was to bait Max. It's kind of comical, but Red Mist or not, it was very effective. Brazil, now that's going to be interesting.
Thanks for your insights and review! I look through my orange glasses (just that you know my bias;-) ): first penalty might have been 5 seconds instead of 10, similar to quite a few penalties last week in Austin for I believe similar situations (e.g. Russel-Bottas); second penalty....drive-through would have been an option as well, looked quite a silly move from Max, a bit too much. ps: I never raced, don't know all the rules, and my "knowledge" only comes from viewing the races and all the previews and reviews (and I hope some common sense).
Nah, now Piastri needs to go in and race max as hard as he can. Nothing to lose even if Piastri crashes with max, except some constructors points. You will see max suddenly drive nicely and giving room, like he did to Sainz when max was overtaken.
Max is back to defending his world title with everything in his toolbox, but instead of using the right tool he goes to the sledge hammer. After all he hasn’t changed with tool of choice.

But I don't blame Max Verstappen. I blame the FIA because they should have done something in 2021 when Max Verstappen forced Lewis Hamilton off the track during the Brazilian Grand Prix. During the 2023 F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was given a 5-second penalty for forcing Charles LeClerc off the track at the start of the race, but the stewards didn't even look at given Max Verstappen the 5-second penalty when he did the identical thing to Lando Norris during the 2024 F1 United States Grand Prix. He knows the rules as well as anyone - I think he had a calculation that the best thing he could do for the driver's championship would be to obstruct Norris in order to prevent him from winning. Whatever the penalty or outcome, I think he believed the points impact to his championship would have been lower. People can think what they want about that, but this was just Max being Max.
