Phil says with the Carpenters "They Long To Be Close To You".
Like many songs, this one is also a cover version and the most famous version.
It was recorded for their second studio album "Close to You" from 1970 and produced by Jack Daugherty. Released on 14th May 1970.
The song was written by the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David and was originally released in 1963 as the B-side of "Blue Guitar" by Richard Chamberlain.
Dusty Springfield recorded an early version of this song in 1964, which was originally intended to be released as a single and potential follow-up to their hit "I Just Don't Know What To Do with Myself". But it wasn't until three years later, in 1967, that their version was finally released on their album "Where Am I Going?".
In 1969, the Carpenters signed with A&M Records, whose co-owner was Herb Alpert. Burt Bacharach asked Alpert to record the song himself, but he was uncomfortable with the lyrical content "moondust in your hair" and instead produced a new arrangement for the Carpenters.
Richard Carpenter said of the recording of this song, "Herb Alpert just gave me a lead sheet and said, 'I have a recording of this, but I don't want you to hear it.' I don't want anything to influence what I might come up with. Just keep two piano quintuplets at the end of the first bridge.' This record, this song, the arrangement, all of it is misleading to the uninitiated because it sounds simple. And it's anything but simple."
Karen Carpenter had been playing drums and practising steadily since 1964. During the first sessions for this song, Karen Carpenter also played the drums, which Alpert didn't like. Alpert said in an interview: "Jack Daugherty and I thought it was a little too easy. And so I asked them to go into the studio again because Karen was playing drums. They recorded it a second time, and I still felt they were missing a bit of a groove, so I gently suggested to Karen that maybe Hal Blaine should step in and play drums." Blaine replaced Karen on drums and they got the recording they liked with Richard on piano, Joe Osborn on bass and Karen on vocals.
Thank you 🙏 dear Phil for this highly sonorous to me one of Carpenters masterpiece. How much I miss Karen and her fantastic voice.
R.I.P. Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 - February 4, 1983)
50 years old and sounds clean :-) this vinyl wasn't used so much
Correct, it's hardly been played. I have a complete set of Carpenters albums all in the same like-new condition. I'd never sell them!
Coming back to listen again. That really "close to you".😊 That crystal clear quality. Imagine listening to live next to the player.🥰
A masterpiece song like this one deserves to be played using a masterpiece cartridge like the Hana MH. Wonderfully done!
Thanks, pleased you enjoyed listening!
Voice like an angel.singing with them now.gon to soon
Excelente, gracias por compartir tan buena música - Excellent, thanks for sharing such good music.
Thank's Phil! 👍
Nothing fills the room like vinyl.
So clear and beautiful, it feels like I heard it for the first time. Thank you Phil
You're welcome - the original mix is quite different but awesome al the same 👍
(Karen has a magical voice! Thanks!)
Magnificent.
Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Wa, close to you
Wa, close to you
Ha, close to you
La, close to you
Back to the thick mat, I see. Wow, those pure sounding vocals!
I recorded this one some time ago but only just put it live, that's why the thicker mat is still on there :-)
PURE ❤️ 😇
Phil 🍀
Good morning!!
Close to you (당신 곁에)
Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near
Just like me, they long to be close to you
Why do stars fall down from the sky every time you walk by
On the day that you were born
And the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust In your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town follow you all around
The crackling sounds moves me to other dimension. Thanks for this!
Wonderful

Thank you so much for all your amazing uploads! I can't seem to find a good sounding version of Neil Diamond's September Morn. I love this song. Do you maybe have it on LP somewhere laying around? :)
I do, and it's a great suggestion / request! I might just make that one today for publishing over the weekend :-)
Have you made and comparisons between PCM and DSD using the DA-3000 capturing your vinyl? I've compared SACD's to the CD copy before and DSD defitinately sounds different. I'd always thought about getting a DSD A/D converter to digitize some of my vinyl, hoping DSD might sounds more like the record. My 24/192 PCM captures are just OK.
Hi Scott, I must admit I've not tried any DSD recordings - I'll give it a shot sometime soon and see how it sounds 👍
@@AudioPhil1 Cool. I know it won't help you for making these videos. But if it sounds more like the record does (as we know how unique that is) , would be fun to capture certain records that sound better than the CD version available. Let us know!
💋
Hey, was that Herb Alpert's trumpet in the final fade.....?
Karen, the birds appears when you're singing....
This pressing a bit bright sounding?
Yeah, i was wondering if it was the mix. Still beautiful.
Thanks God, A&M pressings here in Uruguay are terrible dull.
How do you get your recordings to be so clean?
Thanks - a combination of having records that are well cared for and (for the most part) not scratched, and a record cleaning machine to ensure they're dust free and as clean as they can be. 👍
@@AudioPhil1 Nice setup, thanks for the content
@@Chachoes You're welcome - glad you enjoy it!
The Simpsons Movie bring me here
