I'm from Mexico and I loved Miss México but I believe that Miss Thailand deserved the crowm. Of course I cried that night and on the next days or years but to be honest Mexico or Thailand were perfect to be MU. I had the chance to meet both of them. On the next year MU was in Cancún.
Miss Thailand has given one of the best interviews in the history of the contest, I remember that I personally met Miss Puerto Rico and she told me that Miss Thailand was the most beautiful of the Asians and her crown was very well deserved. Venezuela wanted to impress so much that she made the worst interview, she looked very fictitious and her English was horrible, she came to the contest with the crown on and really her performance was bad, for wanting to be the best was really the worst. Miss Norway really didn't even care about the contest, I think she was a very pretty blonde, but her nerves betrayed her.
I think if Korea had used her interpreter properly (cut her response into manageable chunks), she might go on to win as it appears the interview was a major deciding factor for how the judges eventually voted. It appears the judges' initial impression based on the interview carried over to the way they scored the swimsuit and evening gown. Dominican Republic won the preliminary swimsuit but in the semis she barely was able to outscore Hong Kong.
Miss Thailand is so outspoken, intelligent, pretty, and natural. She seems to be very genuine and she really contributed to society during her reign and beyond her reign. Miss Korea is also so pretty, but from the looks of it and the comments, her translator was awful. Yikes.
Miss Thailand is very smart. Thais and the Filipinos are almost similar in terms of looks and some aspects of life. So no wonder these 2 countries dominate beauty pageants!
This contestant and Honey Lee (2007) have been the most gorgeous and beautiful Korean participants of all times. No wonder they advanced to the finals in this pageant respectively!!!
I am 4 years old at this time...And I just saw here at the time now as one of the judged in miss universe thailand which was our very own Catriona gray from Philippines crowned as miss universe 2018...Miss Porntip deserved to be crowned that time and forever pretty inside and out because she was so smart and very fluent in english...

I love her for saying that. lathough she grew up in Los NAgeles, she never forgets to speak her language (Thai) and to live her culture. She was brought up to be a nice and loving person by her parents. Bravo for her!!!!

I think the MU in the 80's and the 90's were better than what we have today. It has the class and prestige before.
after listening to every answers, the best answer with content for me was Columbia and Thailand. USA articulated well but I think they were looking for a natural spontaneous answer regardless of the content hence why they gave greater answers to most Asian candidates
Exactly. Colombia did a wonderful interview. No one gave her credit just because she spoke Spanish and the interpreter did a poor job. But she was really lovely and charming. The host did know..

The translator for Miss Korea can't express in Korean. She is Miss Korea who is studying KOREAN modern dance but the translator tells Thicke she's learning CHINESE DANCE? And Miss Korea never mentioned she's dancing for plight of women.
Miss Thailand is a woman of substance. No wonder she won the crown. Miss Korea is a cutee. Both are contenders for the crown. But I go for Miss Thailand. Asian charm for this year!
@preciousjey Geraldine Asis of the Philippines, Should have been atleast in the final 5 of the MU 1987 in Singapore, she handled her Q and A with intellegence, poisture and charm. Miss Universe 1994 should have been for Miss Colombia (Carolina Gomez Correa) but Miss India (Sushmita Sen) not only aced teh Q and A but with her carismatic looks, she didnt only impressed the jduges with her answer but also the way she said her answer like Miss Universe 2000 (Lara Dutta).

@preciousjey Geraldine Asis of the Philippines, Should have been atleast in the final 5 of the MU 1987 in Singapore, she handled her Q and A with intellegence, poisture and charm. Miss Universe 1994 should have been for Miss Colombia (Carolina Gomez Correa) but Miss India (Sushmita Sen) not only aced teh Q and A but with her carismatic looks, she didnt only impressed the jduges with her answer but also the way she said her answer like Miss Universe 2000 (Lara Dutta).
