Great video. Changed my fuel pump today. One thing to note, I have a crew cab, so I still had to unhook the 2 straps and use a jack to lower the tank enough to replace the pump.
@@savagedolo2626 there's 2 straps that hold the tank in if your dropping it from below the truck. Taking the bed off you don't have to remove the 2 straps because your accessing it from the top of the truck
Truck’s back together now. I let pump prime a while and cranked it. It started right up, definitely think that was the fix. I had to buy new fuel line clips and a new electrical connector pigtail too. Fuel line clips: “dorman 800-015” Electrical connector: “Standard Ignition 4 Terminal Multi-Purpose Connector - S1410”
Solid work Brendan! Great call on just pulling the bed instead of dropping the tank. One of my old coworkers used to always say “even if you just go mudding once you’re truck will never be the same” 😂😂😂
You are a determined man, my Ram needs a fuel pump, my buddies say cut the bed, then patch the hole. You took the long route. I did have it undercoated so not much rust for KCMO driving. Well i hope tank bolts comply & i respect your hard effort sir.
Seems like it might be dangerous to cut the bed .... all those sparks on the cut, and then ...re-weld it over the plastic pump parts on the gas tank? Seems dangerous. Maybe ok with some sort of well placed asbestos blanket or something.
Was experiencing the same issue , after a fuel pump replacement issue persisted . Had to do a module bypass to get it to work. 11’ single cab still running as of now.
I have a 16 Ram with the 3.6l and I’ve only had it a year but the previous reports show fuel pump replaced multiple times already. And now i have check engine light for fuel pump. What is this module bypass??
Our truck died with the same issue...the dealer thinks the battery died and it magically fixed itself without them replacing anything! Maybe I'll send them this video!
I’m having a fuel smell at my tank but no codes. It smells like it’s coming from right between where the bed and cab meet. No starting issues just a faint smell after I turn the truck off. Mine is a 2015 3/4 5.7. Did you have this issue by chance?
Nice job on bed removal and pump replacement, but l can't believe you put that plastic hat back on the pump. Thing looked like a dirt magnet. I have never seen so much dirt on top of a pump assembly 😊
Yeah…mine (2011 quad cab) isn’t that simple. We did this exact thing but the fuel pump is halfway between the cab and bed. So, now we still have to drop the tank
Hey dude, I have the same issues. This is my third fuel pump within a year so I’m thinking of doing a custom fuel tank and fuel pump. I could have some issue in the electrical front with too much resistance so the pump is working overtime with current burning it out. Anyways I’m thinking of doing a custom fuel cell with an accessible waterproof door to replace them easier lol
@@aguilaleon100 Hi I got the same Trugrade fuel pump from autozone but I trouble shooted and discovered there’s a short in my fuse box along my relay. The pump is working continuously as my battery is powering the fuel pump and it’s pumping the fuel back to the tank as it’s designed to do with the engine not running. So I disconnect the battery every time I park until I can successfully figure out where my short is.
Damn it, tough cookie. I just replaced mine with an oreillys one. It was perfect for about 3 weeks and i took the truck on 3 hour trip and check engine turned. Something about the Fuel pump high circuit sensor. Dont if its a faulty pump or some short. Before i replaced the pump i would turn the key and dash would turn off and on and wouldnt start until 2 or 3rd attempt.
@@aguilaleon100 is yours a 2012-2014? Chrysler designed the TIPM to have an internal fuel pump relay and it doesnt have an external 5 pin plug relay. You might have to take apart the fuse box and solder on a new relay. look up on youtube 2012 dodge ram TIPM fuel pump relay fix. When you have the TIPM apart also look for anything out of the ordinary like burnt out pins from the board this would indicate too much resistance and more current is being sent to bypass that part of the circuit. Another thing to try is to test the fuel pump to make sure they did not give you a bad one.
Thought I'd look at this method and dropping the tank. My 12 model sometimes when I go to start it will start up, run a few seconds then stall. It may do it once, twice or three times (at least it's never happened more than 3) then it starts right up and runs fine. This is intermittent as sometimes it doesn't have the problem. I'm thinking the fuel pump is starting to fail and not developing enough initial pressure to start and keep running. I don't know what else would be wrong but pulling the tank or bed and that not fixing it would be a pain. Anyone have thoughts?

O dang that’s good to know for people with a crew cab
What 2 straps this is gonna be my first time taking my bed off and wym lower the tank

Glad I saw this comment before attacking mine.
So if you have a crew cab you should drop the tank?
“If your truck fixes itself, it’s definitely not fixed” lmao
I love that retrospective analysis while you’re sitting on the side of the road.
Hahaah I was so rattled

Thanks bud! Ya no matter how many times you wash it there’s mud somewhere
Hard to believe it’s easier to remove the box rather then lower the tank , good job 👍👍
On a non rusty truck it’s not easier but for mine it’s definitely easier just so I don’t snap the tank strap bolts haha

On my 2010 4.7, the fuel pump is in the middle of the bed and cabin. You stilñ have to drop the tank a little to move over and change the pump

mine worked but the outlet was cracked from age so i replaced it in my '06 ram 4.7L V8

Literally step by step what happened to me. Only difference was mine died 60ft from the shop lol.

I didn’t have that issue sorry
Did you have a Check engine light on because of it ? And if so did it go away after you put the new pump in ?
My check engine light was on before and after the fuel pump becuse of my gas cap

Cool to know i can get at it from the top but i think im going to just drop the tank good video though its a sweet truck

Yup it’s still good

My 16 doing the exact same. No fun
I have the same issue sometimes, but also with drained battery. What could be?
Not sure sorry
For your stock fuel pump, was the connector male or female? I have a 2014 5.7 and I can make heads or tails what the connector would be
The part on the fuel pump was male

How long did it take to take the bed off?

How heavy was the bed?
Mines chopped a little not to bad 2 people could move it
When I’m at a gas station I have to let the gas flow slowly unless it’ll stop what would be the cause of that

What does it mean if it doesn't crank at all, but after 20 key turns it turns on....

Fuel pump stops in a bad spot in the motor. Runinning shouldnt be an issue if its just starting to go bad.
So just jump from no start to fuel pump, think I would do some electrial investigation 1st.
It worked didn’t it
