Gobert's trade screwed KD big time. Seeing how much Twolves gave up for Gobert nobody will want to pay near that for KD and nets won't give him away either. He's staying in Brooklyn.

If I am Ayton, I really don’t want to play for the Suns anymore. It sucks that he’s stuck. He probably would have preferred they didn’t match the offer.
This is a Perkinsesque take. Ayton is one of the best centers in the NBA and is worth the money. He brings a lot of things to the plate that the Suns would miss if they let him go. He can be traded later down the road if they feel like it. They did the right thing. The Nets look like they are asking too much and maybe the Suns don’t want to pay for him.

Most people arent raptor fans and dont follow the team so they dont know this but i'll spell it out for anyone who cares. Musai ujiri isnt trading fred vanvleet, scottie barnes, pascal siakam or precious achiuwa. Any trade you can imagine with those guys in it wont ever go down... Sorry. You might say"well he traded derozan!" .... after losing to lebron for 4 years and demar gave up on the team emotionally the final year. His hand was tied. He gave them years and they couldnt do it. That trade was desperation and it paid off but the raptors arent desperate. We were like the fifth best team in the nba from january to playoffs and our core is insanely young. This core is borderline a dynasty and musai ujiri specifically hand picked each of these players because he believes in them with his soul. The championship team was inherited and he made it work but this is finally his team. He wont sell his vision for durant or anybody. The best offer the raptors make to the nets would be: gary trent jr and og ananoby and a handful of firsts. Take it or leave it because we dont evne want durant that bad. We are super content with keeping our team as is. Only reason those guys are a consideration is the logjam of talent and minutes and expiring contracts.
Raptors want to pair KD with Siakam, not send him out. OG, Gary Trent, Precious Achwiua and picks is more realistic from the Raptors side. Still beats out Phoenix’s offer and Miami’s. It would be smarter for Masai to just walk away then give away Siakam for a 34 year old
How in the earth are they gonna match this offer? Pelicans: Brandon Ingram, Larry Nance Jr. and multiple first round picks (maybe 5) Warriors: James Wiseman, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, multiple first round picks (maybe 3 or 4) Heat: Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry, Duncan Robinson, multiple first roubd picks (maybe 5) Inorder to compete for KD, they need to offer Scottie Barnes, OG, Precious, multiple first round picks (maybe 3)
There is no way in hell that the Raptors are giving up Siakam, let alone both all-NBA Siakam and OG + picks. The rumored Raptors offer of OG, GTj, and picks is way way more than enough for a 33yo KD. Nets would pick up 2 young 24yo's potential stars plus the 1st round picks. I'm not even sure Masai would do that anyway. He's never traded more than one 1st rounder in any deal he has ever made.
I completely agree Casey. Running it back with the EXACT same squad that got embarrassed in the 2nd round, is a horrific idea. Especially if Ayton doesn't even wanna be there, CP3 will be a year older, and who knows if Booker will actually take that next step to becoming a superstar. The ONLY thing that could make this worse for them, is if they end up dumping, Crowder, Bridges or Cam Johnson for nothing, in order to avoid the luxury tax, which is something I can see Sarver doing.
@@breezy4169 depends how you define superstar. To me, that’s a top 10 player in the league only. Top 15 players below that are “stars”. booker def isn’t a top 10 player IMO
At Age 25 same as Booker is now Steph curry made 1 all star team in 5 seasons and most points he averaged was 24 ppg most players aren't at their peak age 25 unless they rely on athleticism Booker will probably improve and ayton is only 23 best years for NBA players are usually 28-33
Raptors are gonna need to give more than just OG and Siakam. Probably would mean GTJ gets traded too and more FRPs and pick swaps. Problem is, Scottie Barnes isn't good enough yet to be the 2nd option on a championship team. So they won't even win by doing this.
OG maybe but trading Siakim or Barnes put KD in the same position he was in Nets. Kawhi was in the same position and Raptors did it without screwing with their rosters.
Scottie can definitely be a 2nd option. Playmaking. Passing. Defense. Leadership. IQ. Only thing he needs to thrive as a 2nd option is an elite shooter next to him. Which the Raps don’t have.
The Suns were not the worst team when Chris Paul showed up. They didn't loose a game in the bubble and were hot... Chris did help, but they was a team on the rise
@@WidgetWagyu47292 correct. They screwed up when they didn’t just offer the max a year ago. Terrible GM work by the suns. Could have signed him and then done a sign and trade
@@WidgetWagyu47292 yep. Absolutely terrible GM work. Now you’ve got a player who knows you wanted to trade him so he’s much more doubtful to buy in and sacrifice for the team and you still had to pay him anyway. Should have just signed him the max when it came available and then you have a trade asset under a long contract worst case scenario or a happy player who is bought into the team best case scenario. Now you have neither. Beyond dumb
This video is gonna age like milk once we get KD, whether that be before the season or in January. He’s still coming to Phoenix. Edit: Also, you’re Raptors trade isn’t much better than the Phoenix trade, and is actually worse for KD. You can either play with CP3, Book, and Ayton. Which has proven to work to an extent. Or give it a go with Scottie Barns, who can easily backslide this season, Fred, and Gary Trent Jr, a fairly unproven core. Ones clearly better than the other.
I'd rather they run it back than trade their young core for an aging often injured durant. They have it in them things just didn't go their way in the end sadly. 2022-2023 season could certainly be their year. Of course we have to hope Ayton is all in because if he's not and causing a distraction it may be a long year for us.
@@CarlossWorld I'd rather have 3 rising young stars (Bridges, Johnson, Ayton) that have good chemistry together than 1 aging superstar that is often injured and often considered a bad team guy.
I don't see how the Suns running it back with their core and deep bench together that got them the best record in the NBA last season as "ruining their future". All of their talent are young studs (minus Chris Paul of course) that could have a long future together. Just because it is now unlikely that they will get KD, their future isn't "ruined". To be fair I don't think there is currently a single team in the league that could offer enough to what the Nets are asking for KD.
Casey I like how you just dramatically turn on teams so fast. As a Suns fan, I want to see you make a video when we get Kevin Durant. Yes, KD is coming still.

There were no other teams with max cap space and interest in Ayton other than the Pacers. Them putting Phoenix on the clock meant Phoenix either had to match or lose Ayton for nothing. Pacers should waited on the KD domino to fall. The chance to acquire KD may have meant the Suns were more willing to part with Ayton in a sign and trade.
making up trades is fun, but some people think 2k is real life 😄 Why would Durant want to play with Toronto with Barnes? The whole point would be to pair Siakam with Durant. Also the Raptors with KD would be a 2nd round exit at best.
This is the first time that Phoenix has went into the luxury tax since 2009... What makes you think they won't go deeper into the luxury tax for k.d.???
If the Suns get a new owner, they will be fine. Load manage CP3 so he's healthy for the playoffs. Develop Booker and Aytons 2 man game for life after CP3. Get Johnson and Bridges more shots to develop their 3 & D game.
The Suns had the best record in the league last year by a healthy margin. They lost a tight series because they had a disgruntled player who didn't get his bag. Well, he got that bag now. The Suns dealt with a big time distraction (Sarver's misogyny allegations) last year and held up admirably throughout most of it. I don't see how they don't grow from last year's experience and come out stronger this year. They have pretty much the same team that ruled the regular season last year. Meanwhile, the team that knocked them out is undergoing a major change, losing their second best player (Brunson) and having to work in an untested scorer (Wood) that doesn't defend that well. The Clippers will be getting back their best player (Kawhi) but who knows how long he lasts. The Lakers are still filled with the same drama. The defending champions just lost the bulk of their trusted bench and are looking to replace them with internal growth. The Jazz just lost their defensive centerpiece (Gobert) to Minnesota and the T'wolves will have to figure out how to work him into their system. The Grizzlies are the only major contender that hasn't undergone major change, aside from losing a few bench players. The way I see it, the Suns' window is as wide open as it has been these past couple of years.
I agree everyone hyping kd up to much like think about if let’s say they trade mikal Cameron and ayton and picks for kd and let’s say they have a Brooklyn nets year or lose in the 2nd round or one player gets hurt they have no bench to cover for them who says kd wouldn’t leave and the people that say he wanted to go to phoenix so did he about Brooklyn golden state ayton wanted to be here he just wanted to get paid and ima say it suns were kinda close still went to 7 and you could tell they weren’t the same looking back on it suns made the smart move
Finally. A reasonable comment that bodies the whole “the west will be better next year” argument. Running it back may not be the best thing in the world, but it’s not awful either. The team is battle tested now. Pretty much every single champion in the history of the league had to take its bumps and bruises before winning s chip. The Suns just got really good really quickly, so now everybody says they’re frauds and chokers. If they lose in the 2nd or 3rd round last year to a healthy team, the narrative changes. But bc they lost in the finals being up 2-0 and then choked this season they’re bums apparently. Three have more returning consistency still than most teams in the west.
Look at how the Harden trade to Brooklyn went down. Ideally, you use Ayton in a 3 team deal but just because he is off the table doesn't mean the Suns are screwed. If the Suns are KD's preferred destination, which they clearly are at this point, he will likely get his way like the other super stars in this league have. The Suns have good wings, tons of expiring contracts, and are the only team in the NBA who owns all of their draft picks going forward. The Nets have control over how long it takes and can drag a disgruntled Durant along for a bit, but unless Durant changes his mind on Brooklyn he'll get what he wants. When, not if.
The Suns just have to sit until January to trade for KD as long as DA approves the deal otherwise it will be a year. People seem to forget that KD wants to play for Phoenix and he is a hall of famer in a player driven league. He will get what he wants even if it takes 6 or 12 months because nobody wants to trade for KD if he doesn't want to be there the same way he didn't want to be on the Nets. So Indiana complicated things with their offer sheet but aside from that in reality nothing has changed.
I'm sorry, the Raptors w/o OG and Siakim isn't winning a championship. Giving up your 2 best wing defenders isn't going to win you a championship, even if you do get KD in return.
I hate that you brought up the Raptors. I genuinely hope it doesn't happen. I'd rather they build with what they have instead of trade away their future for a limited win now window. It could rival the Nets trading their future for Pierce and Garnett.
Yes, Ayton is not good enough. Just my opinion. What has he done after the 2021 playoffs? His advanced numbers are not great either. He is good, but not as good as he was portrayed after 2021 playoffs
Phoenix wants to keep Ayton always did they just didn't want to max him and by letting him sign an offer sheet and matching they actually saved money by doing it that way. So Phoenix won out in the end..
Phoenix made the franchise-ruining mistake 4 years ago; this Ayton contract is just a necessary repercussion of having a contending team despite that mistake. They f----d themselves when they decided to draft Ayton over Luka Doncic. That is Sam Bowie/Darko Milicic levels of draft incompetence and takes a decade+ from which to recover. Also, don't be shortsighted. Ayton can be traded after 1/15/23. That's well before the deadline. And I'm quite sure Broolyn made it painfully clear that an Ayton-Bridges package for KD was legitimately dead-last on their list of offers. The stupidity of that draft selection 4yrs ago put them in this impossible position where they essentially *have* to match this offer or lose a 23yr old former #1 pick for literally nothing. 30 NBA GMs out of 30 would have matched the offer & resigned Ayton under these conditions. They had no choice. What you need to understand is that they ruined their chance at a title many years prior, and this is just collateral damage from that cataclysmic error.
Couple things…1 they drafted Ayton off of fit for their team, 2. U acting like he’s a scrub for some reason he’s 22 averaging 17pts 10 boards and a few blocks (idk the number, don’t really care to look it up), yea I get he’s not Trae or Luka but he’s already a top 5 C in the league, he was definitely worth this contract
@@prestonkelly4825 You’re totally right. A lot of people forget the Suns were in desperate need of a starting quality center. They also fail to realize the Suns saved maybe 70 million on Ayton’s max by waiting the extra year. If they offered him last year they would be giving 177 million (with a 207 million multiplier for performance). Kinda crazy.
I was glad the Suns didn't trade away Bridges and C. Johnson and others for KD, but then seeing how they dealt with Ayton leaves me speechless and wondering if they should have.
🤦🏻♂️ 1. We offered him this same 4 year deal last year. DA declined. Wanted 5th year or bust. 2. We matched IND's offer sheet in 90 seconds. In doing so, we saved appx $40m. 3. BKN never wanted DA. If they didn't want DA, you think they want Turner??? 😂😂😂 Please. 4. Sarver has come out and said he's willing to go full luxury tax to get KD. 3-5 team deal that involves Mitchell to BKN is still very much an option. 5. Wojo said KD was committed to Kyrie as soon as Kyrie opted in. Less than 24 hours later, KD requested a trade. Wojo is nothing more than a Sean Mark's mouthpiece. Go look at his reporting during the Harden trade 😂 Ok, I think that's everything you got wrong.
Thanks for the comment. I agree with your first point. Beyond that, I’ll believe it when I see it especially as it pertains to Sarcee. Also…I never said Turner would be included in the 3 team deal.
@@AMHoops sorry if it came across condescending. Just seeing the same take from a lot of people who miss the first point, and are talking about how IND fleeced us. Clearly, it's the other way around. If anything, Ayton showed a great amount of professionalism last season with not voicing his displeasure at not getting a max extension and being the subject of trade talk. I think all will be fine. He's now set for life with that contract. He just needs to ball out this year and be more aggressive.
I mean he did give up and stop trying in a game 7 of a playoff series. And then yelled at the coach when he deservedly got benched. That wasn't very professional.
I knew that the Phoenix Suns made a bonehead mistake When they didn’t give DeAndre Ayton that max extension last summer and now they’re officially fucking screwed
IMO, I can't see Ayton to become good outside Suns. He is heavily relying with CP3's playmaking. Though he is still young, he still have so much room for improvement.
If Brooklyn was to trade KD this off season the raptors would easily be able to pull off a trade like for example OG, Gary, Birch 3-4 first round picks, couple pick swaps. When there is no competition to get KD the raptors do not need to trade pascal or Scottie whatsoever. And if Brooklyn wants an all star player then you could just swap Gary with FVV.
Nah the Raptors will not do that trade. It will be pointless and high risk. It should be siakam, vleet and KD. Its gonna be a gamble for Raptors future but I would like to see KD with the raptors.
The Gobert trade set a bad precedent for the league. The Nets arent trading Kevin Durant til he starts skipping regular season games like Ben Simmons...
The only reason to trade your future for KD is if he guarantees your team a championship. If the Nets insist on getting back a return that guts the team trading for KD, it's like the Nets aren't really interested in trading KD and just going through the motions to appease his trade request.
Suns don't need Durant. There's a reason why there's been no serious movement since the announcement, because the Nets don't want to move him AND because no team in contention or just outside of title contention want to break up their team layout to bring in a 33 year old KD. If this was 3 years ago all 30 teams would throw EVERYTHING at the wall to get KD, but in 2022 the league has changed and KDs effect isn't gonna make a current contender anymore if he can't even get his own team to the Finals.
Hey Casey! Question here. In one more year, Ayton could be an unrestricted FA. Before all this Pacers situation, he was able to refuse an extension with the Suns, right. Did the signing of the offer sheet from the Pacers forces him to agree with the counter-offer from the suns? Or he still can stay with phoenix one more year and be a UFA next season?
He's not going to turn down guaranteed money like that. Nobody can risk almost $200 million. He he got hurt this year he'd never get paid that money. Who could live like that? Dennis Schroeder?
They have no chance at getting him now. I knew Suns would never trade for him in the first place. They didn't even wanna sign their #1 overall pick lol. KD on a stingy small market. Nah
OG & Spicy with 3 picks!!?!?! For KD. I am fine with losing OG but Siakam shines best as a 2nd option. OG, Gary Trent with 4 picks is a much fairer trade. If we lose Siakam that is one of the 2 only guys on the Raptors with real Championship experience. Siakam & Scottie are untouchable. I am happy with trading any other players.
Why does everyone include OG in a trade??? Siakam + OG are far more than KD in salary, and their combined ppg + rpg is greater than KD + a promoted raptors bench player (o.k., perhaps Precious could start, but this wouldn't be an improvement in total ppg/rpg for starters, and you'd weaken the bench). The idea is for the Raptors to win a title with KD now! Perhaps trade Siakam, Birch and Wilson, or Siakam, Birch and picks. Forget the Gobert trade - it was bad!
i agree; the Suns have gone as far as they’re going to go with the CP3-Booker-Ayton ‘Big 3’…DA knows Phx didn’t really want him and as a Phx native and lifelong Suns fan i was disgusted by what i saw in Gm 7 against Dallas, they had no business losing to that team. it’s going to be a long season in the Valley.
I don’t think the Suns will trade for KD because of the cost. If it doesn’t work out the Suns will be mediocre for another 10 years and the Suns can’t afford it. The Suns will be good for another two years and once Chris Paul’s contract is up they can regroup and Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges will all still be in their prime but they have to make a splash or this team will be broken up.
The Suns messed up when they gave CP3 that extension....CP3 and Booker in the backcourt/ two undersized guards is a defensive liability in the playoffs so the Suns will always be a first or second round exit..
I give the Indians Pacers a lot of credit because they went for it. As a Celtics fan whose favorite player all time is Reggie Miller; Indiana is a proud franchise that has done A LOT with a little for a long time. I feel bad for Ayton because Casey is right about this (in my opinion).
That wasn't dumb, keep one of the best centers in the league and if it doesn't work out do a trade later and get someone good for the return. They didn't botch anything, KD is in the end tail of his career, still good yes but it is not worth us giving up all our up-and-coming group who in fact this group is a top 5 d and 5 o and made mistakes that they can learn from. Plus, this team had the best record of the suns and league last year, they can win. They also added players that help spread the perimeter already. Now if we get KD awesome but if not, we got a young hungry team, really all we need is a good back up point that can give CP3 time on the bench and better 3 point d.
Ain't no one saying ayton ruined his bright future for getting 130+ million dollars. They saying suns screwed up not resigning ayton sooner and missing out on the KD sweepstakes 🤦♂️
Hold up, no team is offering 4 first round picks for Durant? But Utah got 5 for Gobert? What the heck is going on?! Is Danny Ainge finessing the league again??
This is a great team. It wouldn’t surprise me if they are the #1 seed again and make it to the WCF. Golden state is still better than they are but they are likely better than Dallas and as good as anyone else in the league. The Suns just had a bad game 6 and 7 vs a Mavericks team that had “immaculate vibes”. Those are now gone so they will likely return as the greatest threat to the Warriors. We will see.

@@MegaGiants89 actual value for Ayton would’ve been the cap flexibility to potentially trade for an actual max level player or making it work with Myles Turner on an expiring. The difference between Ayton and Turner isn’t all that much. If you’re smart and you want to improve the team, you always leave your options open
If I am Ayton, I really don’t want to play for the Suns anymore. It sucks that he’s stuck. He probably would have preferred they didn’t match the offer.
His ultimate goal is to get paid anyway, and he already got it. Now let's see how professional both he and the Suns are.
@@jaymaledic5730 he wanted to get paid a max, which is not what Phoenix is giving him
He should demand a trade, even though he can't be traded until January haha.
How do you know that?
@@anthonyle3803 He got Pacers Max which is smaller than Phoenix Max. He got screwed out of $40 million. I wouldn't be happy with Pacers if I'm him.
So your solution is to run it back with the exact same squad?
@@AMHoops yeah I’m not sure if that’s the best idea…
You match that 100 times out of 100, they always planned to match they made the same offer last year.
@@AMHoops this video will be interesting to come back to if we somehow get KD. I gotta say I'm ecstatic we're keeping Ayton since he is one of the best centers in the league.
@@AMHoops although I know that KD's really good, but we seem to be forgetting that he's already what 33? 34? If Suns get KD they'd have to trade their youth, and although Suns loss last season, their players can still improve and may get better with experiences... And with KD wanting to move to Suns, he's asking the core to be intact, that'd be really really expensive and only showing that KD's not confident with his skills / capabilities...
I don't even know why you guys still kept saying KD's the best when last season he failed to show that greatness on court even with Kyrie playing with him, not just simple fail, he failed miserably - 1st round swept exit... 🥴
The best offer the raptors make to the nets would be:
gary trent jr and og ananoby and a handful of firsts.
It would be smarter for Masai to just walk away then give away Siakam for a 34 year old
We’ll I did say it was their “best” offer without including Barnes - not necessarily what they’d prefer.
OG , GTJ, flynn and 2 picks
I feel like Toronto is focused on not giving up Barnes at all costs, doesn’t seem like they’re focused on pairing siakam with someone
How in the earth are they gonna match this offer?
Pelicans: Brandon Ingram, Larry Nance Jr. and multiple first round picks (maybe 5)
Warriors: James Wiseman, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, multiple first round picks (maybe 3 or 4)
Heat: Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry, Duncan Robinson, multiple first roubd picks (maybe 5)
Inorder to compete for KD, they need to offer Scottie Barnes, OG, Precious, multiple first round picks (maybe 3)
that would be a terrible trade.
Booker is a superstar tho
I think ayton and booker can be a good combo
@@breezy4169 depends how you define superstar. To me, that’s a top 10 player in the league only. Top 15 players below that are “stars”. booker def isn’t a top 10 player IMO

The Nets won't trade their superstar to get a bunch of roles players.
The only option for KD is to give Booker in exchange
This aged well
Raptors are gonna need to give more than just OG and Siakam. Probably would mean GTJ gets traded too and more FRPs and pick swaps.
Problem is, Scottie Barnes isn't good enough yet to be the 2nd option on a championship team. So they won't even win by doing this.
Fvv?
OG maybe but trading Siakim or Barnes put KD in the same position he was in Nets. Kawhi was in the same position and Raptors did it without screwing with their rosters.
Lol Raptors aren’t offering Scottie or Siakam. No one is giving up an All-NBA player and elite 3 and D wing for KD.
@@Farhan917 raptors had derozan to trade though

I don't see how the Suns running it back with their core and deep bench together that got them the best record in the NBA last season as "ruining their future". All of their talent are young studs (minus Chris Paul of course) that could have a long future together. Just because it is now unlikely that they will get KD, their future isn't "ruined". Nailed it.
Suns window closed. relying on ayton to be a number 2 is a waste of time and money. You want to win get kd

Wow finally someone in the comments who saw that(:

Don’t act like Ayton is as good as sga
In classic Robert Sarver fashion

Nah

Suns made the first mistake drafting Ayton over Luka. Why would anything good happen to a Valley sports team? KD was never going to come here.
So what do you think the Suns should have done, let Ayton walk for nothing?
You remind me of that Andy Samberg character in parks and rec who yells every time he talks.

Terrible take. The suns are a prospering franchise, with devin booker and ayton it would be a worse mistake to let ayton go.
Ayton ruined his bright future by competing for another finals with Phoenix. It's over for this guy 🙄🤦🏻♂️
I would say treat these rumors with a grain of salt.
