Just listened to several youtube versions of this Pagliaci scene, including some of the best know tenors of the last few decades. Corelli without doubt takes the prize!! Kudos to the rest of the cast!
His acting is unbeliveably modern, strong and lacks the bad tradition. In this film he also shows his very good sense of humor. This is the best Corelli film!

True. I never thought I would see someone match Domingo's 1978 performance at the MET (not comparing the singing, but the sheer acting), but Corelli really surprised me here. Too bad this is a film with voiceover, cause this acting quality live onstage would have been simply the best Canio ever.
