(22yo at the time lol) I remember it was a very hot weekend, & packed out too, we had to 'camp' in a village called Sospel near the Italian border quite high up in the hills. touring on a budget, you know how it goes.. Surprisingly, It wasn't overly expensive in the town compared to Nice & Cannes which was a surprise.& the harbour was well 'stocked' with yacht's. But without the armco barriers, the actual circuit seemed spacious compared to how we'd imagined it was going to be...👍 How they overtake these days I'll never know, the cars are too wide now. It'll be a shame if it gets 'canned' in the future.

3:57 Many F1 fans think the race has lost its lustre. This is for a few reasons like the bigger cars but another reason is the neutering of the track since 2000. Amongst other things they've added kerbs, removed trees, taken away the adverse cambers on various corners and the bumps by resurfacing the road, which also removes the painted lines. As a result the unique challenge of the Monaco track has been diminished to the races detriment.

Personally I think the circuit was ruined by the addition of the swimming pool section in the 1970s. The second swimming pool chicane is completely unnecessary and could be done away with simply by moving the stand so that it backs on to the pit lane.

The transformation creates havoc for some residents over two months each year. Luckily Italy is our neighbour and many use this time to have an Italian holiday. Don’t get me wrong, a fantastic event for Monaco but not without problems for residents over the whole period.

Are normal people actually attending this race or are there only the rich folks watching? Like is getting there and staying in a hotel affordable? Like is this a race for those that can readily travel the world anyways to attend an F1 race at any time?
I went and it was affordable. Got a really cheap Air Bnb in Nice with 2 friends, worked out like £15 a night each. The train from Nice to Monaco is like £3 and takes 25 minutes. So doing it that way is good. Obviously the spending money and race tickets are expensive, but being in and around Monaco during the GP weekend can for sure be done on a budget!
While i appreciate the hard work and Logistics that go into setting up this race.... Its Stupid Boring to watch. You know who is going to Win on Saturday before the Race is even driven, instead of Sunday. Lap 1 of this years race was the first time in a long time of me watching where something happened. F1 (the support races are slow enough and the cars small enough that they can still race... mostly) NEEDS to either Drop Monaco or Add a Joker (look at rally car raceing in America if you want to know what I'm mean) of at least a kilometer that drivers have to take at least a third of the race distance. And they can do that Without modifications to the Car cause Monaco is the Shortest track and added a Kilometer puts it on the Lounger side but Not the Longest. That Joker will add total chaos for the Race Strategists and will speed things up cause a driver will not know if he will get passed by the joker lap, or allow a faster car to potentially pass a slower car. Plus you get to see more of Monaco. It will add some danger if 2 cars get to where the joker ends at the same time but the same danger is there at the end of every pitlane so it can be worked around. But Monaco as it currently stands is boring and NEEDS a Drastic Change to its Current layout. Or F1 just need to change the Size of the Cars as a Whole.
All that effort to one of the most boring races of the season. But hats off to hows its all done in such a short time. But is it calling you poor in every way ? absolutely yes.
You think its harder to build in an empty parking lot more than a functioning multi-elevation city full of the richest most entitled people in the world?
@@EverythingExplainedd Well they've been talking about extending it down to Bd Lavrotto when the last negations for extension were on. The problem is that a part of the road connecting Bd Lavrotto with Ave. Princesse Grace is technically in France. Hence the ACM can't exactly manage part of a track in a different country. And Bd Larvrotto is closed most of the time anyways as the F2 Paddock is at the Country Club and the cars use the road to get to the track and back, so it would make sense to include it once they work border crossings out.
For the love of god. Use the youtube closed captions tool.. not everyone likes annoying texts contently flashing up on the screen. Give people the option to have it or not have it.

This track needs to go away. It's way too small and cramped for these cars and the racing just sucks. The race is absolutely boring and even the drivers admit it. It's basically just a race for the rich. There are far better tracks they can go to over this.
yeap F1... dont forget to switch to an all electric engines....your environmental footprint is rediculous and ENORMOUS but gosh oh gee those monocoques running for two hours every two weeks is the problem
I don't like to go overboard with environment conservation ideas in motorsport and understand that it is going to be a gradual process, but this setup for the Monaco GP is just absurd and WAY over the top. Yes, it's an iconic GP but there's an extent to which motosport can be indifferent towards very real issues facing the planet. Being wealthy should not be a free pass to bloating your carbon footprint to 100x an average person.
Well not really. What it proved was that changing tires after 1 lap and then trying to finish a race on the same set of tires doesn't work because they have to drive slower in order to protect them. The whining about Monaco being boring I've heard since Senna's days so nothing really new there either. And to your question as to why Monaco is still hosting - it makes an insane amount of money for the Formula One Group and its Parent, and of course for the country itself, with this year having been the most in over 26 years.
dont forget, monaco also hosts formula e and the historic monaco race events in the month leading up for F1 being there, so everything has to be completed being setup halfway thru april as all events use the same structures as Formula 1
Yeah I did forget to mention actually, when they host the historic races, the set up starts 1 week early. So 7 vs 6 weeks

@@anikun Indeed & more precisely or broadly, the build-up process has tended to commence in February for a little while now, with the earlier pre-GP event taking place four weeks before the GP, while the process used to commence past mid-March & still did when only one of them got held, depending on the year, & or they occurred a week & two weeks before the GP.

3:43: There is one exception. A bump in the road remains between the Casino and Mirabeau corners, where we see the drivers visibly duking to the right side of the road to avoid.
Yeah.......And when you see clips from races over the last 70 yrs or so, you see how the drivers have always moved right to avoid that bump.

@luisssssess I think it's because another road joins it there. If I remember correctly, it is a bus route, and the buses would ground out if it was removed. I remember that being said in commentary many, many years ago.

Surprisingly, It wasn't overly expensive in the town compared to Nice & Cannes which was a surprise.& the harbour was well 'stocked' with yacht's. But without the armco barriers, the actual circuit seemed spacious compared to how we'd imagined it was going to be...👍

There are quite a few of them about. We get 40% of the purchase price (capped at 5k) back from the government, you can park them on the motorcycle parking areas on the streets (important because car parking spaces are difficult to get, especially in the summer when the tourists arrive) we can charge them for free (well, any electric vehicle doesn't have to pay for charging) and for the weaker version (capped at 45 km/h) you don't need a driving licence, i.e. it also works for the kids, whom I rather have in the twizy than on a scooter. So to get around in Monaco it's perfect.

3:57 Many F1 fans think the race has lost its lustre. This is for a few reasons like the bigger cars but another reason is the neutering of the track since 2000. Amongst other things they've added kerbs, removed trees, taken away the adverse cambers on various corners and the bumps by resurfacing the road, which also removes the painted lines.
As a result the unique challenge of the Monaco track has been diminished to the races detriment.
I still think it is one of the most unique races if the year and undoubtedly gains attention from many non-f1 fans, which for the sport as a whole is a good thing

Cars change and evolve as do the circuits and regulations, for me over my 60 years, weve had 6 wheels, turbos, non turbo, ground effect, KERS and now ERS with MGU's etc. So embrace the race for all its difficulties as it is unique.

And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.

The transformation creates havoc for some residents over two months each year. Luckily Italy is our neighbour and many use this time to have an Italian holiday. Don’t get me wrong, a fantastic event for Monaco but not without problems for residents over the whole period.

I'm a huge fan of F1 with that said. All that for a measly weekend is crazy. The amount of money they spend his insane. This is prof, that we could do almost anything to better the lives of people struggling. If a rich celeb could overnight a pastry from a bakery in france to L.A., we could surely get food to dying people.

Are normal people actually attending this race or are there only the rich folks watching? Like is getting there and staying in a hotel affordable?
Like is this a race for those that can readily travel the world anyways to attend an F1 race at any time?
I went and it was affordable. Got a really cheap Air Bnb in Nice with 2 friends, worked out like £15 a night each. The train from Nice to Monaco is like £3 and takes 25 minutes. So doing it that way is good. Obviously the spending money and race tickets are expensive, but being in and around Monaco during the GP weekend can for sure be done on a budget!

While i appreciate the hard work and Logistics that go into setting up this race.... Its Stupid Boring to watch. You know who is going to Win on Saturday before the Race is even driven, instead of Sunday.
Lap 1 of this years race was the first time in a long time of me watching where something happened.
F1 (the support races are slow enough and the cars small enough that they can still race... mostly) NEEDS to either Drop Monaco or Add a Joker (look at rally car raceing in America if you want to know what I'm mean) of at least a kilometer that drivers have to take at least a third of the race distance. And they can do that Without modifications to the Car cause Monaco is the Shortest track and added a Kilometer puts it on the Lounger side but Not the Longest.
That Joker will add total chaos for the Race Strategists and will speed things up cause a driver will not know if he will get passed by the joker lap, or allow a faster car to potentially pass a slower car. Plus you get to see more of Monaco. It will add some danger if 2 cars get to where the joker ends at the same time but the same danger is there at the end of every pitlane so it can be worked around.
But Monaco as it currently stands is boring and NEEDS a Drastic Change to its Current layout. Or F1 just need to change the Size of the Cars as a Whole.
All that effort to one of the most boring races of the season. But hats off to hows its all done in such a short time. But is it calling you poor in every way ? absolutely yes.

@@EverythingExplainedd Well they've been talking about extending it down to Bd Lavrotto when the last negations for extension were on. The problem is that a part of the road connecting Bd Lavrotto with Ave. Princesse Grace is technically in France. Hence the ACM can't exactly manage part of a track in a different country. And Bd Larvrotto is closed most of the time anyways as the F2 Paddock is at the Country Club and the cars use the road to get to the track and back, so it would make sense to include it once they work border crossings out.
All of that to make the worse f1 circuit on the calender.

This track needs to go away. It's way too small and cramped for these cars and the racing just sucks. The race is absolutely boring and even the drivers admit it. It's basically just a race for the rich. There are far better tracks they can go to over this.

I don't like to go overboard with environment conservation ideas in motorsport and understand that it is going to be a gradual process, but this setup for the Monaco GP is just absurd and WAY over the top. Yes, it's an iconic GP but there's an extent to which motosport can be indifferent towards very real issues facing the planet. Being wealthy should not be a free pass to bloating your carbon footprint to 100x an average person.
How this is still hosting f1 is beyond me. Totally not suitable for f1. Sundays boring race proves it. Yes a bit of action on 1st lap,after that🥱🥱🥱😴😴

Well not really. What it proved was that changing tires after 1 lap and then trying to finish a race on the same set of tires doesn't work because they have to drive slower in order to protect them. The whining about Monaco being boring I've heard since Senna's days so nothing really new there either. And to your question as to why Monaco is still hosting - it makes an insane amount of money for the Formula One Group and its Parent, and of course for the country itself, with this year having been the most in over 26 years.
