Need a good laugh this morning. I was listening to the livestream Saturday night during the seed giveaway. Thought I heard my name called, I was in the process of writing y’all with my Email address when it crossed my mind that I might ought to go back and listen again. Sure enough, my name was not called out, evidently I fell asleep and dreamed my name was called 😂
My Dexter bull will push the babies up to their mamas with his head and then stand between people his family.
I’ve seen him gently push a ewe away from a heifer in labor also.
My heifers are protective too, but our bull takes his role as Dad seriously 😊
A Taiwanese student friend cooked the sweet potato stems a couple minutes, then added the leaves for about a minute, to wilt them, and a little salt to flavor. I had told her I was growing sweet potatoes and she asked me to bring her some of the leaves and stems. Blessings y'all...

I never knew my grandfather and my father died when I was a young man. That intro brought a tear to my eye. I always enjoy learning from your knowledge and wisdom. Keep up the great work Danny.
Appreciating watching you adapt and adjust to your new physical self. I spent 30 years working with people with all types of disabilities, showing them how they can still live independently...just doing what they love a little differently. I am not an occupational or physical therapist, just used some common sense when problem solving. The first step was to answer the question "If you can't do it this way, what way can you?" Now with arthritic knees and shoulders, myself, your journey has given me new ideas for my own gardening tasks. THank you so much.

What an excellent video Ms Lippy is an excellent helper the video is an excellent tutorial on how to plant sweet potatoes I would have never known how to plant them right thank you so much and Ms Wanda does an excellent job as a camera lady it sure cheered me up Monday morning since I'm still sick not able to do alot still being sick have to feed my chickens they don't like anyone in the hen house I also love the stick fork you made for pushing the potato vine into the ground and yes Ms Lippy did a good job with the fork stick if you could all please send healing prayers my husband is now sick with what ever I have his amune system is weak due to his cancer and now I just found out my son who checks on us and brings us what ever we need is now sick to he is our life saver when our house was on fire he dove threw a window to save our lives he was badly injured but still survived so he means so much to us thank you so much for this video I've learned alot being a newbie to growing a sweet potatoes thank you and God bless

I worked on a small allotment one summer alongside others. Learned as I went and with help from the old lady who owned the land. It's hard work for sure but honest work and I might be partial but the lettuce I grew was the best I ever ate!

That tractor though ❤ The tomatoes and squash look amazing. I still have snow on the ground, so no planting yet. Looking at the onions like though, reminds me of how my parents use to garden. Straight in the ground, vertical rows and pretty as ever. He always had the best luck, but then he had my brother and me to pull the weeds every night after school 😂 Thank you for sharing with us. Wanda you don't need the ranger. Just go get the tractor. Use the bucket and you can just pick them up and dump them on their feet again. Lol.
Most informative video I’ve seen yet. I have some slips started (my first time) and need to get them planted up but will have to plant them in grow bags since we didn’t get a garden tilled up in time but turns out it was a good thing because I also learned from you guys that the garden needs shade from the harshest time of the day and that will change where we thought we needed to put the garden. This was awesome! I did not know how to do and I just planted two yesterday but not deep enough so repotting now that I know how. I'm going to plant in large grow bags so I can cover. I live in north central Wisconsin. My precious daughter Joyell has stage four metastatic breast cancer so I really need to grow!! Blessing and Thank you!!!

I've been following along with Danny's Sweet Potato Manual as you go through the stages of preparing and planting the slips. Having the photos in the manual and the videos are very helpful. Ms. Lippy is a great helper. Thanks for another great video. Take care.
Where do you get his sweet potato manual? I was wondering how he started his potatoes. Do they need to start to root (2 eyes each potato) before he planted them in the shallow bin or the deep pot?

I can confirm that planting in dirt is the easiest way to get slips, or what my dad called draws (that may not be the correct term, but its what my dad called them). My family used to do what's called market gardening now, we grew sweet potatoes for a living about 50 miles north of DSH. My dad would disc up an area and we would rake smooth the dirt and put in some stakes and strings to mark off an area of about 9' x 30,' sometimes longer. We would place the potatoes in the dirt like puzzle piece down the length of the marked off area, then cover with about 6 or more inches of dirt and make what looked like a raised bed. I was young when we did this so I'm going by memory. Then we would place clear plastic over it and cover the edges with dirt (similar environment to the green house and the cold frame Mr. Danny used last year). Once the plants started poking through the dirt my dad would give them some air and head space by placing a few piece of firewood under the edge here and there. And then eventually take the plastic off. When the plants were about 6-8 inches (sometimes longer, about 10 inches if we were slow in planting), we would "pull draws." Since we pulled so many, we didn't cut every plant, but I can remember my mom cutting some of the roots with a huge knife. I don't know if it was because they were too long or what. I'll have to ask her. Some of you folks probably know the reason. I do remember placing them in water. We used a setter hooked to a tractor to set them out in raised rows. There were trays to hold the plants and we placed them by hand into clips that went down into the ground. Lots of work, didn't always feel enthusiastic about it then as a kid, but good memories.

Used the bury merged under grow light after soaking potato first over night.
9 slips with short roots and tall stems.
Soaking in water now and will plant in week or so.

Very helpful video. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your knowledge. I grow various microgreens 🌱 & sprouts inside for the family (eat half of each batch & plant the other half in my yard), but now I’m excited to try growing sweet potatoes 🍠 & red potatoes. 🥰
Many of the plants I grow are entirely edible (roots, stems, leaves, pods & flowers: Speckled pea, red arrow radish, purple Rambo radish, nasturtium, amaranth, broccoli, mustard, arugula, fava broad bean, adzuki bean, & green lentils). All of my life I’ve told people that I should have grown up on a farm (like my grandmother) rather than the beach…and that was before I started growing anything. I look forward to your videos daily.

I grew 6 1/2 lbs in a 8 gallon bucket. 1 potato was 1 1/2 lbs. I was so excited. I can’t wait to do it again. I want an entire bed for sweet potatoes next year. Get out of the bucket. Now I’m growing carrots in the same bucket. Can’t wait to see what we get.

You can take those leaves and dry them, and powder them for a great green drink full of nutrients. I put it in soups, too. They also make good fresh salads. That's going to be one healthy cow.
I have one grandpa sweet potato that I keep planting over and over every year and it produces a big yield every year. I dig it with the rest and just replant it every spring. Big old monster. Lol. They are so versatile . You can grow the slips in a glass, or like you just did. or grow the vines long and then divide them at the joints, and they will grow their own roots. Just like propagating wandering jew plant, or other vines.
