Here, in East Coast, Canada, we make Hodge Podge with new potatoes, peas, & beans, cooked together, then pour cream, butter and salt & pepper on it all...it's a treat we wait for each year, yummy!

Sweet potatoes we don't grow in europe..... too cold. We can plant in may and harvest in september. we have only 4 months usable weather. this year the harvest was 50% smaller and 50% less...... so then the EU dictators want us to stop put nitrogen in the soil. its forbidden......next year they are talking that EVERY harvest bust be ended in september, forbidden to harvest later. But corn and potatoes and a lot other things like cabage gets harvest later, Sellery and prei also.......

Beautiful harvest! Those onion tops will freeze dry or dehydrate beautifully. You can have freeze dry green onions or make onion powder out of the tops.
I would dehydrate them and use as I would chives, or even in Pho broth or egg drop soup. I never thought about making a powder out of them. Would the onion powder be green in this case then?

We are in Eastern NC, i planted Potatoes in late February, Tomatoes and Sweet Corn in mid March. It has been a unusually cold spring so far at night, had to cover everything, but all survived, we had frost yesterday morning and the sprinklers kept everything protected thank the Lord. Our tomatoes are blooming and everything is is growing very well, set out pepper plants yesterday, doesn't look like anymore freezing night time temps, it's time to plant everything!
I enjoy watching you, teach gardening. I like your potato Fork, most people don't know the difference between potato Fork and a pitchfork. I really enjoy your helpmate, hard-working, supportive, kind of reminds me of Loretta Lynn Stand By Your Man. You're right everything God makes it pure goal.
I think harvesting potatoes is one of my favorite things to do in the garden whether it’s Irish or sweets because it’s like unwrapping presents at Christmas time you never know what you’re gonna get and the excitement is extreme!

Thanks so much. When you talked about morning glories it brought back so many memories. My mom had such a green thumb. Gorgeous flowers. Beautiful gardens. Morning glories grew against the huge root cellar that was used by the neighbors. Unfortunately my parents to divorced when I was 7 and we moved from there. I went back there a few years ago and it's now just a field and morning glories were everywhere. I will be 71 in May so I was literally shocked.

Thanks Danny. That's a great harvest! My fingerling seed potatoes were all shriveled like yours were. I planted them right before we got 5-6 inches of rain followed by low 30's temps for a few days. They are popping up like crazy now. I'm praying that my harvest in a few months will be abundant like yours. Much Love

You taught me how to grow sweet potatoes and potatoes in rotation of each other and it has been working like a charm for me. I'am noticing the same think with volunteers. Old farmer around here said you can't grow Sweet Potatoes in this area to many bugs in the soil. I'am trying to use my own seed from what I grow on my 2nd and 3rd planting on my seed hope this helps keep out problems in my garden. Thanks, Danny

I planted small potatoes from last year. I kept them since fall in my mudroom. I planted a bunch in 10 gal totes( save garden space). 😀 A few got shriveled a little but I expect them to grow. NE Ohio here and looking forward to getting some seeds in very soon. I started my gardens in 20 but Its so rewarding growing my own food. God bless.
Andrea, I had a couple of potatoes that grew eyes, so cut them into 3rds and planted them in a cardboard box. Lots of green on top & I think I'm supposed to keep putting mulch or soil on top as they grow. Have no idea when to check for taters or what to do now. I'm still a newbie and can't do any planting until I get moved and settled in. See I'm gonna have a new nosy neighbor that feels it's his duty to stare over our way when we pull into our own driveway. I am from Northern Ohio originally. I live in the mountains in mexico now. I miss lake erie yellow perch. Some chefs say it's the best tasting fish in the world.

Mr D I am SO EXCITED!! The first of my Yukon gold plants that set flowers had 'fallen over' yesterday, so this afternoon I decided to see what was going on underneath it. I only wiggled my fingers in the dirt under half the plant and I got 2lb 7 oz of potatoes!!! At that rate, it is possible I will get 5lb of potatoes per plant and am looking at a BUMPER crop. East Tennessee.
Wow very nice harvest! I saved a few potatoes from my harvest last season as well but a friend of mine said I couldn’t replant because they’ll get disease. I’m now going to look into this. You’ve proven him wrong for sure!
You may want to read JADAM Ultra Low Cost Gardening. Danny and Wanda have a link to the book in the description during any Livestreams- even if you look at an old one. The Jadam system explains succession growing of the same crops and how to avoid carry over diseases. I just started Jadam this year, and the parts I have been able to implement are doing well.
I can almost smell the potatoes and onions cooking in bacon 🥓 grease in a cast iron pan. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My potatoes are looking great but not ready yet. Ive never grown onions here in Louisiana. Going to have to give it a try. Yall have inspired me once again!

Danny try the Red Creole onions, they are ready at the same time as the Texas Legends, they grow up to 4 inches in diameter. Great looking potato harvest, we have another month before ours will be ready to dig, french fingerling, red la soda and yukon gold.
We live in middle west Georgia zone 7B and had to go to all raised beds. Our soil...if you can call it that is Either solid clay or rocks and boulders with clay! We grew sweet Potatoes last year in a 6x6 raised bed and ended up with tow 5 gallon buckets full that we are still eating on! The slips I started are also from my own potatoes. We are growing red and purple Sweets in two beds this year.
Hubby is heading for major spine surgery in 2 weeks so the garden is my sole responsibility until he's back at it (pun intended...LOL). We're in our 60's. We took our entire backyard for the garden this year. Thankfully it will be easier for me to maintain than mowing. I wait for your garden advice. Thank you for all that you share. Counting practice with my 2 year old...check...watching Danny counting potatoes. Looking forward to planting some potatoes this next week...then she can count the plants we plant. Also, sorting by types😁
We learned a lot of those lessons in the garden and also in the kitchen. Counting cookies or biscuits and even later on and you'll be surprised at how soon learning to multiply by the numbers on a cookie sheet! I'm sure you get the basic idea.

It was a totally different time but he embraced the homeschooling and has two girls now that are teenagers

Hey Danny, the Creole reds don't get as big but we still grow them for bunching/salad onions. Fire ants here as well, use 1 TBS of orange oil to a gallon of water and drench the mound. Can't wait to harvest our taters. We are growing in 30 gal containers and 5 gal containers. The fire ants are real bad here and we can't grow in the ground. We have your sweet potatoes manual and it's the best ever! God Bless yawl. Mike

I have the same garden fork, I use it for everything just about. U were talking about bacon, I save the grease off bacon. Now u can buy in stores for like $7 a pound.
It’s 30* F here in northern Maine this morning. We have baby plant started inside. Sure hope it warms up by the end of may. Oh, by the way. It’s a soft “e” in Kennebec 😉
A few years ago in Nebraska a bought a sweet potato from the grocery store, planted it, and got a really nice mess of sweet potatoes. I've not used slips at all. More research in order here.

Man oh man.... I often ask myself why I don't sell everything and move south. Especially when I see you harvesting already, lol. Just got another 4" of snow yesterday. Last frost is the middle of June... makes for a very busy and short season here. My seed starts are just popping now. Heck, still have the chicks in my living room in a stock tank. Gives my husky's and the cat some entertainment, I suppose.
When did you plant these potatoes? Trying to judge when mine will be ready. I'm fixing to plant some sweet potatoes to make slips to plant where my potato bed is when they are dug.

@@SoilToSoul I dehydrate and powder my onion and garlic tops to make garlic and onion salt. They do come out a light green color, but i like that.

I went back there a few years ago and it's now just a field and morning glories were everywhere. I will be 71 in May so I was literally shocked.

Thanks Danny. That's a great harvest! My fingerling seed potatoes were all shriveled like yours were. I planted them right before we got 5-6 inches of rain followed by low 30's temps for a few days. They are popping up like crazy now. I'm praying that my harvest in a few months will be abundant like yours. Much Love

You taught me how to grow sweet potatoes and potatoes in rotation of each other and it has been working like a charm for me. I'am noticing the same think with volunteers. Old farmer around here said you can't grow Sweet Potatoes in this area to many bugs in the soil. I'am trying to use my own seed from what I grow on my 2nd and 3rd planting on my seed hope this helps keep out problems in my garden. Thanks, Danny

I planted small potatoes from last year. I kept them since fall in my mudroom. I planted a bunch in 10 gal totes( save garden space). 😀 A few got shriveled a little but I expect them to grow. NE Ohio here and looking forward to getting some seeds in very soon. I started my gardens in 20 but Its so rewarding growing my own food. God bless.
Andrea, I had a couple of potatoes that grew eyes, so cut them into 3rds and planted them in a cardboard box. Lots of green on top & I think I'm supposed to keep putting mulch or soil on top as they grow. Have no idea when to check for taters or what to do now. Since you are growing in a container, do you have any tips?

I just wanted to say Howdy neighbor, I'm currently in Braxton moving soon to Copiah county. Nice to see another 'Deep South' family on here for me to learn from. You've got another subscription from me now. Nice tator fields you've got on the homestead. I like the way you think when leaving the baby tators in for a later harvest. I'm still a newbie and can't do any planting until I get moved and settled in. See I'm gonna have a new nosy neighbor that feels it's his duty to stare over our way when we pull into our own driveway. Not too many folks in the small town/village where I'm moving to, even though it's in the sticks.

Mornin Danny and Wanda! I am getting ready to put my potatoes in the ground this week here in Northern Ohio! I plant in raised autumn leaf "bins" i made with chicken wire. Been doing it for years now, i live back in the woods.
I am from Northern Ohio originally. I live in the mountains in mexico now. I miss lake erie yellow perch. Some chefs say it's the best tasting fish in the world.

Mr D I am SO EXCITED!! The first of my Yukon gold plants that set flowers had 'fallen over' yesterday, so this afternoon I decided to see what was going on underneath it. I only wiggled my fingers in the dirt under half the plant and I got 2lb 7 oz of potatoes!!! At that rate, it is possible I will get 5lb of potatoes per plant and am looking at a BUMPER crop. East Tennessee.

Wow very nice harvest! I saved a few potatoes from my harvest last season as well but a friend of mine said I couldn’t replant because they’ll get disease. I’m now going to look into this. You’ve proven him wrong for sure!
You may want to read JADAM Ultra Low Cost Gardening. Danny and Wanda have a link to the book in the description during any Livestreams- even if you look at an old one. The Jadam system explains succession growing of the same crops and how to avoid carry over diseases. I just started Jadam this year, and the parts I have been able to implement are doing well.
I can almost smell the potatoes and onions cooking in bacon 🥓 grease in a cast iron pan. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My potatoes are looking great but not ready yet. Ive never grown onions here in Louisiana. Going to have to give it a try. Yall have inspired me once again!

Good morning! I’m in the Deep South as well. Curious when you started your onions! This was my first year growing onions and I’m afraid that I was late getting mine in, I’m just hoping to get SOMETHING! Thanks for all your wonderful videos!

Danny try the Red Creole onions, they are ready at the same time as the Texas Legends, they grow up to 4 inches in diameter. Great looking potato harvest, we have another month before ours will be ready to dig, french fingerling, red la soda and yukon gold.
We live in middle west Georgia zone 7B and had to go to all raised beds. Our soil...if you can call it that is Either solid clay or rocks and boulders with clay! We grew sweet Potatoes last year in a 6x6 raised bed and ended up with tow 5 gallon buckets full that we are still eating on! The slips I started are also from my own potatoes. We are growing red and purple Sweets in two beds this year.

Hubby is heading for major spine surgery in 2 weeks so the garden is my sole responsibility until he's back at it (pun intended...LOL). We're in our 60's.
We took our entire backyard for the garden this year. Thankfully it will be easier for me to maintain than mowing. I wait for your garden advice. Thank you for all that you share. I could've watched you dig potatoes all day (not good for your back though...LOL)

Good morning Danny and Ms Wanda that garden fork you use I have 2 of them I've had one for nearly 40 years and the other one I got when ever my son collect scrap and I see those old garden tools he gives them to me I believe you can never have enough you guys have really inspired me to up my game and put my garden knowledge into full force I am garden more then I ever have in 40 years I'm even putting up a green house for the first time I'm cultivating areas where I use to have cows and horses I'm like you it's hilly but I'm making it work I have over 1000 seedlings started this year from my own seeds I saved I'm even going to try sweet potatoes I love the taste but never grown them thank you Danny for the video on how to start them the old saying you learn something every day and I have been by watching your videos thank you so much bye for now and God bless

We learned a lot of those lessons in the garden and also in the kitchen. Counting cookies or biscuits and even later on and you'll be surprised at how soon learning to multiply by the numbers on a cookie sheet! I'm sure you get the basic idea.

It was a totally different time but he embraced the homeschooling and has two girls now that are teenagers

Hey Danny, the Creole reds don't get as big but we still grow them for bunching/salad onions. Fire ants here as well, use 1 TBS of orange oil to a gallon of water and drench the mound. Can't wait to harvest our taters. We are growing in 30 gal containers and 5 gal containers. The fire ants are real bad here and we can't grow in the ground. We have your sweet potatoes manual and it's the best ever! God Bless yawl. Mike
Looks great. First time this year I have sweet potato slips growing. Thanks to your manual Danny. I tried French fingerlings last year and they are great. I have some left as seed potatoes but not planted here yet. Been in 30’s and no spring weather yet here in central indiana.
I have the same garden fork, I use it for everything just about. U were talking about bacon, I save the grease off bacon. Now u can buy in stores for like $7 a pound.
It’s 30* F here in northern Maine this morning. We have baby plant started inside. Sure hope it warms up by the end of may. Oh, by the way. It’s a soft “e” in Kennebec 😉
A few years ago in Nebraska a bought a sweet potato from the grocery store, planted it, and got a really nice mess of sweet potatoes. I've not used slips at all. More research in order here.

Man oh man.... I often ask myself why I don't sell everything and move south. Especially when I see you harvesting already, lol. Just got another 4" of snow yesterday. Last frost is the middle of June... makes for a very busy and short season here. My seed starts are just popping now. Heck, still have the chicks in my living room in a stock tank. Gives my husky's and the cat some entertainment, I suppose.
