Pro-tip, the ECS branded coilovers are Solowerks F1. Their Customer Service offered me a price match on them when they were out of stock of theirs. Good video! How's the ride quality after almost 6months?
Well TBH, solo werks arent that stiff and are pretty soft. So when Alex got new wheels with 245s, he rubbed a lot due to the coils not being stiff. The ride quality is still good though.
For the top bushing on the front, Can it just sit on the tophat? the old coilovers i am removing have a tophat then a plate for the top bushing to sit on, aswell as a rubber piece under the nut. The solo werks dont seem like i can put the small bushing on the shaft even though thats how its shown on the instructions. Any suggestions?
When i was putting mine in i found this same problem. What i did is take a file to the inside of the bracket and smooth it out as there’s rough edges and smooth down the bottom metal bushing on the strut with a angle grinder, taking on a fraction of a millimeter just so it would fit. Start with the file, make everything smooth and level and then use the angle grinder if needed.
How did you guys intall the passenger side coilover? Did you have to remove the axle bolts? I'm researching how to take the old shock off without undoing the axle.
@@almondboy111 No. I just went ahead and removed the axle bolts. Screwing them back with the proper Torque was a pain in the arse! I had to use a long extension that allowed me to reach the bolts from out side the wheel well.
No camber in the front? I run the same suspension but not nearly lowered as yours and I have positive camber in the passenger side. I wonder what I could adjust to fix that. I was hoping to be able to do something before having to put in camber plates.
Ay man, just found the channel and I’m loving it. Quick questions hope you have time to answer, but what coil-overs would you recommend? Also was it a bitch to install the catless down pipe? Worth it or is a muffler delete enough to get that growl? I’m currently looking to build my mk4 golf and looking for inspiration and asking those who’ve done it for advice
i dont mean to be off topic but does any of you know a method to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot the password. I appreciate any help you can give me
@Muhammad Jayce i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Do not buy these. Ive been running them for 2 years on my mk4 gti. Only like 1K miles on them (Don't drive it much) and they are already horrible. Extremely bouncy drive. Not enjoyable. Spend the money and buy a set of BCs or something similar.
Interested in your opinion: my '04 MKIV GTI VR6 needs a suspension refresh. This video helped me get familiar with the job. I'll install Bilstein B4 dampers (heavy duty) for a better than OEM quality replacement damper while maintaining similar ride characteristics designed into OEM. I did not find aftermarket springs that would be a suitable substitute for maintaining OEM springs ride characteristics. What's your opinion on reinstalling the same springs with the new dampers? Is it okay? If not, why might it be a bad idea?
How are the coilovers now? They still mint? Im currently in the process of putting fks in mine, Finished the rear but doing the fronts, Gotta wait for the new bushings
Brendan Carreiro they ride really nice but I must say there sure aren’t for my build. I wanted stiff coils for corners and these aren’t it if you put bigger wheels on. I have massive wheels on (18x8.75 w/245s) so I rub quite a bit and I’m not that low. When I was on my 17” rims (in the video) they were just fine, I could fly around corners and have a good ride all in one. But yes there still holding up as far as the shocks and springs, no rust, etc.
It's from Eurocustoms. It's more effective with a tune. In the latest vid that I just uploaded, there's an exhaust leak but it's not from the downpipe.
I have these on my car, took the front helper spring out and got it at a decent height, the rear is a monster truck and It might go an inch without the rear perches. But will it ride shitty? I'm on 17s tho
Yaaaaa that walmart Black Jack is legit! Had mine for like 10 years and its still going strong!
Dont the sway bars hit the axles when you go low on these things?
very well done video and explanation. great job guys, thank you
THANKS FOR THE HELP my coils are on gon see how they ride

My struts are taking a brick to put in. They aren’t fitting into the bottom bracket

SanchoSanto any chance you figured out the answer to this?

Pry bar and pull down
peep the caddy pickup i just put some solowerks in mine
Can you tell where did you get those white rings in your headligts? I have them but they are kind of yellowish
you just install top mount for rear springs? none of the rubber bump stops?
Did you guys reuse the factory stretch bolts for the front coils?
PotatoBake probably
PotatoBake I didn’t on my GLI but u really should be fine

Mladen Hristov you get an alignment after you lowered? Mines had like 4 alignments so everything fits well.
AJHL Tuners yes. I've had it aligned after I put the suspension on

@Muhammad Jayce It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my ass !
@Donald Brayden Happy to help :D
how are the dampers? Cause im going to slam it on this but scared that the dampers are way to soft to run static with these?

RedondoBeach2 should be fine, you can always check the forums, there’s always an answer on there
Just put the 337/20ae billstein coils on the rear, i believe it’s a .5 drop from stock
22 mm with Vise grips No special tool needed.
Don’t listen to this tool
hey man nice car ,in brazil the mk4 gti is istill very popular and im curious about your wheels size what type of tires you are using in your golf.
You Brazilians love the mk4

AJHL Tuners Thanks for the quick reply! My first time putting in coil overs, And this is the first video I watched
How has the 3in downpipe been? Did you get and ebay one? If so how has it held up?
Are talking about the one from the GLI?
Yes
It's from Eurocustoms. It's more effective with a tune. In the latest vid that I just uploaded, there's an exhaust leak but it's not from the downpipe.
Ok good to know thank you
Lil skies, I fw it. But thanks for the help. 01 MK4 Jetta Wolfsburg edition going on coils this weekend
How many inches is this dropped?
What did you do with all the OEM 337 suspension?
Mike sold it
Nice! I have been looking for some to give my GTI a little lower ride! Might end up just going with some Bilstein Touring and Eibach Pro kit springs.
If In doubt use an adjustable spanner
Why replace good bilstein shocks with cheap ass stuff ? i dont get it
OL= BAG lower
Would you recommend these over Racelands?
Brian Coria no haha this is the owner of the car trust me just get racelands they are too mushy and the struts went to crap after about 10,000miles
I have these on my car, took the front helper spring out and got it at a decent height, the rear is a monster truck and It might go an inch without the rear perches. But will it ride shitty? I'm on 17s tho
nah perches don't affect the ride quality
@@717Tuners good, taking em out today ha,
10:09 so real when I work on my Jetta
whats wheels
JOM ?
Nice job 👍
The aristo wheels are genuine or replica? Cheers
those are ariettas I think
It's dope just like it when put God's plan
Excelent!
Nice 👍
Take adjusters out the rear and slam it
The blind leading the blind .
LOL exactly
when you install coilovers you need to do a final correct torque on bolts after the car is under all its own weight not on jackstands guy
As a VW tech I can tell you I've installed hundreds of struts without going through that procedure and never once had an issue.
