I remember I, Robot as a kid, I quite liked it and still do. Not like mind-blowingly amazing, but still okay

I, Robot isn't anything amazing but I still like the movie. There's definitely a lot of better movies out there though.

This is kind of a similar situation to what happened to me with the movie "the mummy". I remember loving it when I was younger but I recently re-watched it and let's just say it's not as good as I remember

Same happened to me with the mummy films.

I rewatched them as well. The Scorpion King with Dwayne Johnson honestly held up pretty well, but the main series movies with Brandon Fraser (I think?) are just meh. First one was definitely the best of the series if I had to pick.

oh god now i dont want to watch the mummy again...i have such fond memories of it but if this is what happens i would rather dwell in those memories

by the way, i clicked this as soon as i saw the title. when i was a kid i use to like this movie as well. a suggestion for an old robot movie would be Surrogates. IMBd gave it a 6.3. Here's a google synopsis:
"In the near future, people live their lives free of pain, danger and complications through robotic representations of themselves, called surrogates. When the first murder in more than a decade rocks this near-perfect society, FBI Agent Greer (Bruce Willis) discovers a vast conspiracy and must abandon his own surrogate to solve the crime, risking his own life in the process."

I like it, but what hurts it for me is the fact the noir detective stuff is completely ignored come the second act. I heard the director had a terrible time making it due to studio interference and i can tell alot.

I really like this movie I think it has its own unique charm he says the CG hasn't aged well I think it has for a movie that's from 2004 it looks pretty new the CG is off sometimes and you can tell the robots aren't there in some parts of the movie but still it looks pretty realistic

I wanna start by saying I'm honestly not huge movie fan or anything, but I like this idea. I love horror/psychological films and I'd really like JAR to try and watch some asian films, especially korean movies like Hansel and Gretel, which I found weirdly enjoyable, or Killer Toon, which ended up being hilarious with all it's plot twists that were really unnecessary. Maybe seeing something different might change the experience, but over all I think it'd be interesting.

I had to watch that in class because of its 'philosophy'.
It was fucking dogshit. The humour was some of Robin William's worst, the plot line jumped from pole to pole on a moment's notice, the acting was laughable and it ruined the book's premise to a degree.
In fact, I read a review once that sums it up. They mentioned how the acting 'becomes more robotic when he became a man', and boi. Boi. It's too true.

It's not a new film, but one I am not sure about. I can't decide if it is good or just alright. 'Before I Wake'. Sort of a psychological film with some really beautiful aspects, but I think you would have some good points about the conclusion or the lack of explanation to some things.

Regarding the comments on Alex Proyas at the beginning: Dark City is pretty much the best film in his filmography and, to me, one of the best science fiction films of all time. The Crow is also a pretty great and influential neo-noir ttoo. Do they necessarily make up for the schlock he's worked on in recent years? Not really. Nevertheless, if you haven't seen either they're especially worth checking out.
I'd actually be interested to see some reviews on some Charlie Kaufman films, both ones he's solely written and ones he's directed. I recall Alex mentioning Anomalisa before so it would be interesting to see what he thinks of films such as Synecdoche, New York, Being John Malkovich, etc (especially if you haven't seen them already).

Hotel Transylvania 2. At one point in the movie, they talk about Bluetooth and stuff like that and it was obvious they were trying to advertise Sony Mobile phones. You could remove that part of the movie and it wouldn't change much because it has nothing to do with the story in any way.

Watch Arlington Road. It isn't a really bad movie, at least not to me. I love the movie. But I have also heard a lot of flack on it. Many people consider it to be a bad movie.
I just want to see Ruben's and/or Alex's opinion on it.

Alex did you read the book the movie is based on?

I would like to politely suggest watching "Sabotage" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger mostly because it's my go to "I don't hate it but it's.... ok" type movie.

Do you remember the Denis movie? Was it 'Denis' or Denis the menace anyway I remember it had Christopher Lloyd in it. I had good memories of it when I was young, but now... *sigh*

I recommend you watch the first Silent Hill movie. It's about one of the only decent game adaptations out there, though it might've aged a fair bit by now.

Throw out Harlan Ellison's brilliant screenplay, ignore any and all subtlety in storytelling, dumb down Asimov's fascinating questions, injected a healthy dose of Will Smith "aw HELL naw!", and you got I, Robot, the movie.
