The Spider-Man Mobile Game You Can't Play Anymore

- Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem has long been delisted and I fondly remember it as being a simple but enjoyable action game. The kind of game we don't often get in App stores today. Here I take a look back at it and see how it holds up.

To say “this game was my childhood” would be too reductive. This was my LIFE. A fully 3D, mobile, Spidey experience! Boss battles, collectibles, it felt like a triple A game on the go! Man…
Bring these kinds of games back!
THE SAME !
@@DiegoReviewsif they just brought this game back I would be forever grateful and happy
I still really miss being able to play the dark knight rises game by game loft that was truly unique too!
@@Eevolved32If you have an Android you can still get it
When the combat on a mobile spiderman game is better than the DMC mobile game.
Also it's always morally correct to emulate and JackSparrow delisted games
Couldn’t agree more!
Wait , really? I heard a lot of praise for dmc mobile combat engine
@@Ajay-pj2hv 1.0 version's combat was really good. The version we got is just standard dumb down hack n slash...
Doesn’t feel like DMC
@@riazzking3592 oh...... That's... really disappointing. I'm getting a new phone so I was excited to play that one
@@Ajay-pj2hvif you want to play games with thrilling combat system.
Try this games punishing gray raven wuthering waves honkai impact 3 grimvalor which is really underrated mobile game in my opinion.
There's also oblivion never lose hope.
Holy crap. This game kept me sane during my father's first (yes, first) cancer diagnosis and treatment.
As an only child just starting college at the same time this happened, I spent so much time just worrying about everything. This game was a sweet oasis during those sleepless nights beside my father at the hospital.
RIP Dad. Love ya.
I am sorry about your loss
I used to play this mobile game all yhe time alongside the other 2 prominent Gameloft Spider-Man mobile games. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man Unlimited.
Very excited to check out TASM2!
The TASM games were amazing, specially the first one.
the best, played those all the time
We're getting to the point, where old mobile games sound more fun than most Triple-AAA games nowadays😭
Makes sense because modern AAA games are trying to emulate the current shitty mobile game monetization system and gameplay loop. It's not quite there yet but many games feel cancerous to play nowdays.
One thing is that Total Mayhem’s Combat and Combat animations were so good that they literally copy pasted it into the first amazing Spider-Man mobile game. I loved that game even more, because it was open world and that blew my mind as a kid.
24:05 man... To think a mobile game has the black suit with a unique moveset, but insomniac doesn't have it is kinda sad
four year development and a high budget only to cut important peter/miles/venom content so they could give us mj missions lmao
not even close to being comparable unless your IQ is the same as room temperature.
@@dreamybulllxxx
Because they are smort.
I mean, it was an intentional decision to let the symbiote moveset (of which there are 6 abilities + unique surge attacks) be used with any suit, it wasn’t like they didn’t have the time for that or something. I do miss the WoS-esque suit swap but I like what we got too, symbiote surge is so satisfying
@@Phasmania 🤨
You're telling me that it was their decision to make the symbiote combat as basic as possible?
Surge has basically 3 animations, and it doesn't even make sense, since it was supposed to be exclusive to violent Peter in the black suit, but you can use as antivenom at the end of the game.
i’m more than happy to hear someone talk about this game, man this was really everything to me growing up it sucks not a lot of people know about it and that you can’t even play this anymore.
i can still imagine playing it on my ipod
Dudeeeeeeee I Am So Glad That Finally, Finally Someone Made An Video On My Favourite Childhood Game " ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN TOTAL MAYHEM " I Love This Game More Than Myself This Game Is My Freaking CHILDHOOD MAN 🧡
Btw Diego, PS Vita has a prospering Homebrew scene and it's architecture has a lot in common with phones of that time so a lot of those mobile games are getting ported over to it by fans. You can now have on your Vita 100% fully playable with proper button controls: Vice City, San Andreas, Max Payne, Bully, Modern Combat 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Dead Space Mobile, Mass Effect Infiltrator, Final Fantasy 4, This War of Mine, Indigo Prophecy and so on and so on.
And yes, both Spider-Man Total Mayhem and Dark Knight Rises are some of the games currently in development by the community to be playable on the Vita.
Whoa that sounds awesome! Might actually be the best way to play these games.
Hey man do you have any idea when they are coming out?
Possible for 3DS too or no?
@@user-yh7pt6zg9e nope, just gotta wait for it to be done.
@@Blazio as far as I know - no
I remember playing this game a while back! This is honestly a nostalgia trip for me, so thanks a whole lot for covering this game lol
My pleasure!
Dude I randomly thought about this game last year, played it as a kid on my mom's friend's blackberry tablet.
Genuinely my favourite mobile game I played as a kid I remember it being so much fun as well as a little bit challenging especially I think there was a Bronx level in a baseball stadium that was pretty difficult.
I searched for an APK at some point to try play it but couldnt find anywhere to download that I trusted not to give me a virus.
Super excited to see this in my recommended and cant wait to watch this video right now.
I'm so glad this video popped up in my recommended, I was a HUGE fan of this game and a bunch of other Gameloft titles back in the day before I could afford newer consoles. For a teenager whose most modern console in 2015 ws still the Wii, getting to play even ripoffs of newer AAA games meant a lot. I've played both Amazing Spider-Man and DKR games a LOT and I would love to see them given some attention (plus TASM2 game has some of the most absurd cutscenes I've ever seen in a game, I very much recommend for the comedy alone).
I do remember this game, and I do think of it from time to time.
It was one of my favorite games to play on my dad's IPhone back then!
I miss the days when full on fledged games were developed for mobile phones, they had a certain charm to them!
Ultimate Spider-Man Mayhem is definitely in my top 10 Spider-Man games list, it really was that good for me!
24:36 - 24:43 Damn dude that was slick. It looked like you were close to getting hit by those spinning blades.
Great video covering one of my favorite Spidey games. I do miss these kind of mobile superhero games. Gameloft made plenty more that I missed out on like the TASM2 and Dark Knight Rises game. Would definitely like to see you cover both along with others that have long been delisted.
I check the App Store for Marvel/DC games and what they have currently just don't hold my interest. Especially with most of them having that energy system. Spider-Man Unlimited was really the only iOS superhero game that kept me playing for the longest time until it got discontinued which was sad to see. I like that Total Mayhem gave you a complete game you can play in it's entirety with no other type of in-game currency's just to level-up your character or energy that limits how much you can play in one session.
Playing this on my brother's iPod was so addicting. As a kid to now, I have always loved the original Ultimate Spider-Man comics and it's interesting seeing how many games this iteration of Spidey has been utilized in. Plus unlocking the Symbiote is always a great reward. Also when I played this game, Spider-Man's basic attack always reminded me of Chun-Li's lightning kick. I guess he learned a few things from the MVC days.
Thank you so much! Haha that was pretty cool. I had to make sure to put it in the video.
legit jumpscared me with the amount of positive feedback there was after the read more
@balls69yearsago isn’t it great!?
@@DiegoReviews legit lol
whyd my comment get deleted?
I remember when i got my first iPod Touch and downloaded the Lite version of this. Played it constantly before buying the full game. I genuinely miss these games with efforr from my childhood. I never could put this game down. 100 percent it and just kept going through it. Glad someone else appreciates this just as much.
Great review!
Just found this channel and realise how much I love it. I never thought I would see this video game again but you brought me back to simpler times, thank you Diego, new sub and keep it up
Thank you so much for the kind and encouraging words! Lots more to come 🙂
I haven't heard of the game but this review was insanely entertaining. Subscribed amd checking out older stuff as well! 🙏🏼
Oh man thank you so much!
Dude your thumbnail game is amazing!
Thank you! That means a lot to me.
@@DiegoReviewsThey weren’t the only one that noticed either. Seriously some nice work
This and the dead space iOS game are super underrated I feel like u would love the dead space iOS game
I think you may be right!
@@DiegoReviewsI think I just gave u a video idea😁
Thank God there is a youtuber out there who covers these old mobile games because they are such forgotten gems
This was a great look at this game, I never actually played this but I always thought it looked really charming indeed!
Thank you, Nick! It’s a very good game. I’m looking forward to (hopefully) finding more gems from Gameloft.
One of my favourite mobile games from my high school years and have plenty of good memories with Total Mayhem
I remember playing this game as a kid, so unique and surprisingly regarding the controls even with the touch screen they still felt nice and responsive, never had issues with them
Bro this is the first video of yours ive seen in a long time and your playstation inspired avatar model looks so sick
Ultimate spider man total mayhem
Tasm1
Tasm2
Dark knight rises
Gangstar miami vindication
Gangstar west coast hustle
Gangstar rio
Were childhood mobile games. I will always remember
Dark knight rises game was amazing!!
I forgot this existed omg. Played this when i was like 5. Thank you for this nostalgic trip
Dude this game was my whole life when I was younger. A friend gave me his old iPod touch he didn’t use anymore and I ended up playing through this game over and over again. I remember getting stuck on the second venom level with the trains cause I got too scared of the trains running me over, but eventually came back to it later in life and actually beat the game. I was absolutely shocked that you get to unlock the black suit with a unique move set and the comic book cover collectibles were sooo fun for me.
I remember playing this on my dads phone and I played the full version over and over and with the Black Suit I just used that immediately afterwards unlocking it
FINALLY SOMEONE REMEMBERS!!!! I have this on my tablet as a kid and I kept that tablet so I can play it whenever I want
OMG i thought i dreamt this game up. The other day I randomly remembered playing it on my ipod touch back in the day and tried to look it up but couldn't fond anything. this vid is clutch!
I loved playing this back in the day!! So much fun
THIS GAME WAS LIT THANKS FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO
id love to see a video on TDKR mobile game. I remember it being such a strangely engrossing experience, but also I was like 10.
Forgotten?? Not to me, EVER, this thing was so amazing to me growing up, I particularly loved playing the whole thing while in long car rides or flights, I would never get bored of it
I can still play it, its still on my download list on the Apple App Store and I've still got a working iphone 4s. This game was a banger when it came out, getting used to touch controls definitely had a learning curve but once you got it down, playing a game like this on your phone was actually as enjoyable as a console spiderman with a controller, and this game was surprisingly deep in its combat. This was peak Gameloft and I miss these days of mobile gaming.
I vividly remember playing this on my cousin's phone a long time ago but I couldn't remember the name. The wall crawling section in the video resurfaced a bunch of lost memories of playing this game. What a throwback
The best mobile superhero game for sure
Should still be playable on android at least
Last time I played it in 2021 and the only glitching things in the entire game were Goblin's fireballs and some minor screen resolution issues
TASM and TASM 2 by Gameloft are legit nothing compared to the glory of this stylish masterpiece
You've not called it this, but I'm glad to see the return of Pocket Heroes nonetheless! Damn man, the jokes in this landed perfectly and it's great to hear you chatting so enthusiastically about this. Real wholesome stuff, dude 😎
I loved this game as a kid! Thanks for covering it.
I use to play this game when I was a kid playing the lite version for a year before I convinced my grandma to buy me the full game on her phone took me forever to learn you could play in the black suit this right here gave me so much nostalgia I loved this game with a passion and think about it often I really wish there was a way I could play it
Since the game is unplayable now and this game holds so much nostalgia for me, it would be a shame if I could get some info on how I couldn’t download it. I don’t think I could live with myself if someone helped me not download it because no one wants to do that. (Someone help me please 😭)
I was REALLY hoping that someone out there would have replied to this
@@lynettehoward8542WeWillBePatient
Great review man - thank you, this bought me back to my childhood. TDKR game is great too! It was open world if I remember, I always wondered if the 2008 cancelled Dark Knight game’s assets were used for it
Thanks so much! That’s a good point you bring up about the canceled Dark Knight game.
You should look into the iPhone mcu games from back in the day, I remember there being a Thor, captain America and iron man one and two
Wow this game took my favorite Spider-man (Ultimate) with my fave world (ultimate) and gave you one hell of an experience (ultimate). I miss when games had passion like this. You can tell they loved making this
I wish this was still available I never got to play it and I have 2 mobile spider-man and I already finished them it was short
If you think about this, this is the only ultimate spider man sequel we will ever get
this is my favorite mobile game of all time, i used to play tasm and tasm2, and ultimate mayhem as a kid on my grandmas ipad, it was amazing. sometimes i download the apk on my phone
Lost? Yeah. But forgotten? Nahhh this is a core memory 🔥🔥
Bro what did you do to anger TH-cam's algorithms?! How are you this underrated???
Great content btw
Well crap, this looks awesome!!! Love it looking like a future handheld release to a neversoft spiderman, you should definitely show more light on these definite hidden gems, great one again Dieg-bro!!!
I think you just gave me the name for my avatar…
@@DiegoReviews Haha nailed it🤜🤛
All things aside, this is a really good and immersive video
21:48 - 22:10 couldn't agree more man, our Bronx rep in games about NYC is so low, only other game I remember having seen it in is Def Jam: Fight for NY. Total Mayhem was such a great mobile game at the time wish there was more like it now!
The creators of the game did not cook, they solved world hunger
Ultimate Spiderman total mayhem, Spiderman Unlimited, The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are my all time favourite mobile games and no other mobile game can change that!
You should make a video on TASM games for real they were gems. I still play these games up to this date
my gooood, i remember standing on the venom goo thing in the cities until i died many times because i was convinced that there was going to be an easter egg of him getting the black suit 😭
If you're looking for old superhero mobile games, I remember this really neat side scroller, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, though I feel it would be difficult to emulate due to it being super reliant on screen swiping as I recall.
There's also the Iron Man 2 movie game, that one was a total gem I really being quite fun with the controls. There was an Iron Man 3 game but it just ended up being an ok endless runner or I guess flyer.
I loved this game so much one time I dropped my iPod playing it and it cracked so bad it was unsaveable and I was so sad
I used to play this every chance I got on my mom's ipod as a kid. Flashbacks.
I think this is the one that was on Dad's old HTC smartphone. Iconic
Based dad.
@@DiegoReviews thank you, based reviewer ❤️
Can you talk about TASM1 and TASM2 mobile games? and the dark knight rises too
HOLY SHIT u just unlocked a core memory in my childhood
I wanted to play it so badly but I couldn't I'll see if I can do it now.
I thought this game was a fever dream. Couldn't find it anywhere. Underrated af
Aw man, I have such nostalgia for this game. This game was so much better than it had any right to be. I need to find a download for it.
I played this and even the Justice league mobile game 😎🗿
Holy shit I remember this game, it had me so invested when I played and had to snack up Sandman
If you've read any of the og Ultimate Spiderman comics you'd see that that's totally something ultimate Goblin would say
i only remember always fighting sandman in this game and when you beat him, spiderman would say something about sand in his pants
The rest of the game is really good! I was also only able to play the lite version.
I remember that when I was a kid, I thought that if I do the Rhino boss fight without getting any damage, Spider-Man would say something different in the cutscene
@@ZheltokYaichni whoa! I didn’t know that.
@@DiegoReviews yeah, because it doesn’t work like that. As I said, I *thought*
But it would be cool
14:15 That was a great edit lol
Omg my childhood! I loved this game as a kid
Boy oh boy, you don't know how many hours... DAYS i spent playing this game, even after i realized it got de-listed i never uninstalled it so i could continue playing it.
I remember beating this game as a kid, I miss the old mobile games
I’ve actually remember having that dark knight rises game on my iPhone 5 it was pretty good game. It had the same control mechanics as the Arkham games. I hope you do a video on it.
Cant believe your daredevil video was 4 months ago. It feels like I just watched it
I didn't know this exist !
I remember playing GL’s Zombiewood a lot when I was younger
i remember when i was younger i only had the lite version of the game but i figured out what point it stopped you at and i found a way to avoid that specific part and then i was able to just keep playing
There always comes a point in most mobile games, even ones I really like, where I just have to drop it because eventually the game stops being the main experience and moreso monetization heavy stuff gets shoved in my face getting in the way.
I certainly wish that wasn't the current norm, hopefully games actually get to be real games on mobile devices again like any other platform. But it seems more of the opposite is becoming the standard on all platforms.
Underrated channel
Thank you so much!
Damn, I hadn’t thought about this game in like over ten years 🥹 I remember the day I paid the $6 or $7 bucks for this game and I remember thinking how epic it was and playing it over and over again. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!
Only played the lite demo version as a kid, but still have fond memories of this game.
Shame this genre of paid mobile games has basically died out.
I miss Spider-Man Unlimited
Yeah no I'll never forget Total Mayhem, basically every level is engraved into my skull. I had it on my phone even now until recently when it refused to run, major bummer. Still, love it to bits.
Man I remember playing the demo on my moms ipad over and over until I could get the best trophy and finally getting her to buy me and my brother the full game, and when we beat it and unlocked the black suit just to play the game all over again. I remember playing Marvel's Spider-Man and some of the combat reminding me of Total Mayhem. Man it's just so peak...
Edit: LMAO JUST GOT TO THE PART ABOUT PLAYING IT ON YOUR MOM'S IPAD YOU WERE SPOT ON.
I loved this game as a kid. It was so amazing to me
I love how this game learned a lot from web of shadows with the webstrike
still have this on my phone. crashes very often but holds up
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS GAME, IVE WONDERED WHAT HAPPENED TO IT, it was my childhood
I remember waiting hours for this game to finish downloading
What a freaking long intro, c'mon man. Still, thank you for showcasing this game. I played this at launch on my iPod touch 4th gen until my iPhone 5 and damn, I feel sorry for the people who has not played this game
I plan on covering several Gameloft games so I wanted to give a bit of context for this first game. For future videos I’m going straight to covering the game itself and briefly reference this one if they want a bit of Gameloft history.
I had so many memories with this game and it was frustrating when NOBODY else knew what i was talking about 😂
Check Tasm 2, it is one of those morr complex combat ones you talked about,i mean, its not really that complex, but for a 2014 mobile game, its crazy
Will do!
This game excited me when it was announced because of the version of Spider-Man they made a game off of. I was bumped because it was an apple exclusive but luckily I was able to play it pirated on android
Total mayhem was so much fun and still is I remember playing it when I was a kid I still have it on my iPad but the game doesn’t run properly and it’s just laggy and the dialogues are just sped up
Yoooo I remember this game. I played it on my sister's iphone 3gs back in 2012 or 2013 I think. I was still just a kid back then lol
I loved this game when I was a kid and was sad when it was gone and I really want it to come back 🥺🥺
Feels like a spiritual successor to Spider-Man ps1 and ultimate Spider-Man ps2.
I wish I could repost youtube videos on youtube somehow, This game was my childhood, ever since Spiderman had a warm place in my heart, alongside Spiderman 3 tho i never finished it as a kid
Lol the penguin at the beginning just killed me
Hahaha! I’m glad to hear that.
This was my first spider-man game I played. And now looking back to this is my childhood. Now I have the 3 PlayStation spider-man games spider-man 1 spider-man miles morales spider-man 2 I have all 3 games now and I will always love spider-man
