    A live, semi-improvised synth jam performed entirely on hardware.
    This one came together unexpectedly as I was wrapping up a longer video on some of my favourite gear (spoiler alert). I stumbled into some ideas with the Octatrack and Cosmos, and added the closest synth on hand-the Roland SH-4D, which I just got and am exploring-to fill in the gaps. Add in a sample from an old favourite and the song was complete. The Cosmos always creates music that sounds like the music in my dreams, ambient and blurred, ideas reverberating across the sonic space.
    Thanks for listening.
    Elektron Octatrack MkII - Samples, effects,
    Roland SH-4D - Synth lead and bass sounds
    Soma Cosmos - Asymmetrical looping into infinity

    The OT sample makes me so happy that I recognized it from the previous work you used it in. You are capable not only of such an impressive breadth of musical style, but even within the work you do, your music is so deep and you get more out of it from listening again and again. A true inspiration!

    Love the Blade Runner-ish flow this has, like a dark, smokey, rainy cityscape lit by only neon and streetlights. Very cool. Thanks so much!

    I guess that's why Vlad calls it the Drifting Memory Station (as per your comment about your dreams, blurred.........) nice upload................I love the feeling of everything being 'suspended' that you've created....

    I am waiting for the SH4D to be delivered. It just shipped this morning. Nice to hear something more interesting than a lot of the videos I've seen. the layout is just what I am looking for. I was concerned about the sound. After seeing and hearing this video I think I will be happy with it!

    Jay, beautiful music, as always. But what made me even happier is the fact that you know how to spell the word “its” in the phrase “its buttons-keys are pretty unpleasant” ❤ Good grammar is underrated.

    Awesome! What a journey!!
    Got me a SH4D learning as we speak, you’ve inspired me to look into the COSMOS that will bring the live performances to next level. Also looking for another module to add to my rig. The Octatrack really impressive, but I’m tied between a synth or groove box. Plus I also love the EuroRack drum machine you built. I’m a drummer so need to be able to build drums, and so far no drum machine gives me what I want/hear. Yours looks ideal but the Grids are no longer made - bummer. Might need an alternate.
    Love your work it’s inspiring ❤

    • @JayHosking
      @JayHosking  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey thanks! As regards Grids, a few companies make exact clones of them, such as Momo Modular (which is the one I use), so it's still out there if you want it. You could also get a step sequencer like Intellijel Steppy instead, and that will give you a bit more control.

      @@JayHosking thanks so much for the tip, will certainly do so … just looking at the modules you have included in your rack - looks soo good and very keen to build something very similar of not the same.

    I'm trying not to get too excited by the thought of what I could do with the SH4D. My wallet and my brain are saying "you don't need that". But still... it sounds gorgeous...

    • @JayHosking
      @JayHosking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Early impressions for me are quite good, though I don't think I'll end up using the sequencer part much (I bought it to be a multi-timbral synth).

    Any other loopers that drift similar to this? The Cosmos is next on my gear list but I’m curious what else does this? I’m good on traditional loopers with my Boomerang and Eventide H9’s.

    sounds great! do you remember where the initial chord samples come from? (I see nebulance mentioned it came from a different track but wasn't sure where to look!)

      I made all the musical samples here, and they were used in a previous song of mine (th-cam.com/video/mdAsusfwpE0/w-d-xo.html). And thanks!

    Nice Jay. What is it about the Octatrack - it just looks ace as well as being wicked. The Cosmos sounds real good for ambient washes.

    • @JayHosking
